Godavari takes you through the whole life cycle of a meal from hunger to feeding to regurgitation. The buffet was overly spiced, too salty, and overwhelming in its flavors. You could compare it to an 80's prom queen with a fuscia poofy dress, a mullet, and fluorescent pink lipstick. Not to mention they didn't replenish the buffet items even if you asked for it. We went to the Sunday special buffet today and what a wonderful experience. The first surprise was that the chai was included and easily accessible. It was delicious. All the dishes included on the buffet were flavorful and spicy to our taste. Many people might find it hot, but we didn't. The staff was attentive and owner was very friendly. I am currently certified in servesafe, which is a national certification in food safety. In the few times I've been here for Sunday brunch, I've never seen any unsafe practices. My experiences here have been positive. I'm also aware that the earlier you come to a buffet, the more food on the buffet table. There was a definite lack of meat in the Tika Masalas. The chicken did not taste like it was cooked in a tandoori oven - it was an odd fatty cubed cut of meat. The chicken 65 had an odd thick fatty breading on it, but did have good flavor. The samosas did not come with any chutneys but were pretty good. I am thoroughly disappointed with my experience. The Palak paneer had very little cheese, the Veggie Pakoda was tasty, but didn't come with any sauce. Entrees do not come with any naan, which is a first for me. My wife called in when I returned home to see if the lack of naan was a mistake, but the employee she spoke with rudely stated meals only come with rice and hung up on her. To be clear, I do not feel entitled to naan. It's fine to choose to have it as an add on, but there is no need to be rude to people who ask questions. When I went in to pick up my order the place was practically empty, but it took a couple minutes before anyone came over. The staff person who gave me my food seemed surly and curt. This place was recommended by my brother's neighbor who is Indian. She says this is her favorite place in Columbus. I love this woman because she sent me here!! The food is so good and the service is prompt. My favorite is the Prawns 65. I dream of this dish. The dosa was very good and crispy, love the dipping sauces. Also had a curry okra dish that was very nice and the garlic naan is always a treat. I have never been a big fan of the go to tikka masala and butter chicken (which I haven't tried here) but what we ordered was great. I was almost persuaded by the negative reviews, but glad I went anyways. This was my second visit and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Very ill mannered staff. I was giving an opinion on Hyderabadi Biryani to my friend, and a staff member interrupts our conversation asking me if I knew how to cook Biryani. I wish the team is open to customer feedback and not challenge the customer by interrupting a conversation and giving an opinion when not asked. I do not remember the name of the staff member who had no manners but all I remember that he claimed to be a student of Hotel Management from Mumbai and was originally from Vasai district in Mumbai. I am curious to know which hotel management schools teach you to interrupt when a customer is having a private conversation with other guests on the table. This restaurant has taken the place of what used to be Cumin. I decided to try it for dinner on friday. I should have read the reviews. I was more than just disappointed. The food and the service were poor. The iddly was hard and lumpy. The vadai seemed crispy and fresh but was a bit raw inside and lacked flavor. Two Of the chutneys were good. The sambar has a lot of what tasted like canned tomato juice in it. The best item was the water than came in a jug. The okra pulusu was at the same time burnt and raw tasting ; quite terrible. I was seated and ignored for a bit . Then my order was taken. I was refused wireless internet access. The appetizer and entree were brought out together. I was again ignored after that. There are no thali options so a single person can only have one vegetable for dinner. Rotis are extras. An appetizer, a vegetable and lassi came to $28. The salt lassi was heavy on the salt . My bill was dropped off at the end of the table with no comment. I saw wine being served in a glass without the use of a tray. The food was delicious, especially the pongal, wada, and goat curry. Few issues though. The fish/ chicken pieces were too big. I couldn't finish them and felt bad about wasting food. The shahi tukda was dry, lacked syrup and flavor (maybe some cardamom/rose essence/kewra should have saved it). Overall a 4 star place. Revising my old review: We gave Godavari another shot, and I'm glad we did. The staff was wonderful, the good was wonderful. Everything was significantly better than our last visit. They are definitely worth trying. Old review: Cumin, the restaurant previously in this location, was my favorite Indian restaurant of all time - so I'll acknowledge a bit of bias. Godavari is definitely not Cumin. The food at Godavari good. The service isn't what I'd expect. They will not make substitutions, so if you'd like chicken added to something, or if someone in your party does not like onions, you're out of luck. We experienced a language barrier with our waiter, which seemed to irritate him. He also told us he'd prefer a cash tip, which was kind of awkward. I really miss Cumin, but Godavari is at least worth a try. Maybe you'll like it better than we did. read more

I would rather give 1/2 star for this place. Very cheap and no quality food. We drove from Cleveland to meet my friends in Columbus and all of us decided to visit this place for a buffet at around 2:00 pm. Food was worst on top of that they were hurry to close the kitchen and they keep reminding us about the time, although there was no much food to eat. They dint know which table placed which order. There were missing items. I still don't have the spicy dal I ordered. Well, Never mind now. Let me go to the taste. Our table ordered veg food. The dal was very plain though we ordered a spicy one. The Bihari Aloo Gobi said it will have Gobi. However, the Gobi was completely shattered. There were missing a complete naan which was later brought. Overall, there is such depreciation in the quality of food that I DO NOT recommend anyone to visit this place. I loved their buffet so much I ended up going back the second day of the conference. The food was incredibly delicious, obviously! They also had different dishes on the second day, which was great to try several dishes during my Columbus stay. I do love spicy food and this Indian cuisine did not disappoint. Spicy and flavorful with a variety of dishes to choose from (vegetarian/vegan/meat) and a variety of traditional herbs and spices used. The soups and sauces were also very delicious. I did not order any items from the menu as I went during lunch and had the buffet. I imagine if ordering off the menu you could adjust the level of spice to your liking. The weekday lunch price was very affordable. Of note, they offer a discount if using cash. The staff were very courteous, friendly, and attentive.
