Busy late even on a Tuesday night with laughter from a group of six punctuating the din of academic conference goers one-upping each other with stories of tony graduate institutions and prestigious journals. We were seated right away and surveyed the menu with a prodigious number of choices including robust tandoori offerings. I opted for the Mighty Shrimp Tandoor which may have been a bit overstated in terms of their girth or lack thereof. I chose 4 out of 5 on the hot scale and it was a full fledged 4 for someone who often opts for 4 or 5. So go low if heat is not your thing. My dining companion went with her favorite, Saag Paneer. Artfully presented, reported to be passible, not spectacular. Alas the rice ironically is where a notable shortcoming came together, literally. There were sticky clumps of rice that were not as warm as the rest and made us think perhaps we'd come too close to closing. With prices of $22 for the shrimp and $19 for the paneer one should hope these standard details are attended to even later in the evening. The servers were pleasant if a bit hesitant. It's ok-good. I arrived at 1:28 after calling to confirm their buffet ended at 2. I'm seated, ignored after getting water. I approach a server to ask if I should just go up to the buffet. She says the buffet is closed. BUT I can clearly see 4 other (yes I counted) still making trips. So she asks the person at the checkout. Yes. I can still get the buffet. Many choices and the tandoori chicken was large and looked good. I had tomato soup, dal, Chana masala, pakora, and paneer makhani (tomato butter), naan, basmati rice, "stir fried" rice, bread pudding, kheer, and fruit custard. Plus chutneys and raita It was good. One of the nicest Indian restaurants we have been in, ambience was amazing! The staff was very friendly and checked on us many times making sure the food was to our liking and that we were satisfied. I am usually a not a fan of goat... however my husband ordered it as an appetizer and it was delicious! I think the best I have ever had! My husband had a chicken dish and complimented it as very tender and juicy. We will definitely be going back! Been trying to come down here. Heard about it a few years ago. But it's a little out of my way, and parking is just nuts downtown. Particularly right here. Hard to find and expensive. I ended up giving up and going into the lot next-door. They want your keys and a lot of money... The restaurant is long and narrow, and very elegant inside. I didn't feel out of place in my T-shirt, though. They were warm and welcoming. I went for the lunch buffet. It is also elegant, and every single item was great. I wish I'd been more hungry. Still had a couple of plates. I don't do buffets the way I used to, I don't really do all you can eat, or rather all I can eat has become a smaller amount. But I love getting a variety of things to eat. This had a nice mix of the usual standards. And they were all very well done. Most were hot if appropriate. Some weren't very warm, though. It wasn't busy on a weekday. I really enjoyed the food and experience. The downside is the price. It was pretty expensive for an Indian buffet. And if you add in parking, it was very very expensive. I probably won't come back unless I'm trying to impress somebody. But if you're already down here, and especially if you don't need to pay for parking, it will be a nice splurge. read more

Yes, it is the last thing I want. Later ordered wings of heaven for apps, and found a long strand of hair. I understand that things happen in the restaurant business. I've noticed this restaurant recently while driving around downtown. Turns out, a few of my friends had tried it for takeout and loved it! So we decided to dine in one night. It wasn't busy until later. Good vibes here and very much an upscale experience. The food is pricier than your typical Indian restaurant but they are still good portion sizes! For apps, we got the chicken Manchurian and chili mushrooms. So good! Very flavorful and one of the best chicken Manchurian dishes I've had! We got the mushrooms mild and the chicken medium heat. Not spicy at all. For drinks, I got the Bollywood smash, while my friends got the old fashioned and Last Lassi (spiked mango lassi). For entrees, we shared: Hakka noodles (tastes like a toned down version of lo mein), chicken biryani, saag paneer, and garlic naan. My friend, who is Indian, said this is one of the best restaurants she's had for Indo-Chinese food. Everything was delicious! Like I said, large portions! Pretty poor food, not recommended. My vegetarian curry sounded great on the menu with 9 different vegetables and nuts. I guess if I cleaned out the bottom of my freezer I would come up with the same disappointing mix of corn, peas, green beans, big chunks of green pepper and onion and even bigger chunks of potato ends. I met Gwen W for an early Friday dinner at 4:00. I've been here, but it's been years. We both found street parking on the side. It is beautiful inside, with comfortable seating. The service was good and our server was gracious. I started off with a glass of Riesling. I chose 4 courses from the Restaurant Week menu, which was our purpose for coming that week. The vegetable pakora looked completely different from what I'm accustomed to; it was little bits of fried veggies. Tasty but unusual. The Sweet Corn Egg Drop Soup was delicious. The food here is pretty good, considering you're in Columbus. I ordered the butter chicken with naan, and my girl ordered the chicken Tikka biryani. All of the food was delicious, to be honest. The issues I had with this place came down to service and portions. At most Indian restaurants I go to, the portions are typically generous. I felt like that wasn't the case here. I am a little shocked to have to write this review but the one waitress here who I think is Indian had no manners to host people. When we entered we were greeted well by someone else but the table we were assigned was broken and was shaking and had no balance. After we asked to be seated somewhere else the Indian waitress mentioned there is another seating for two people next to a larger table ,as we approached it we realized it was extremely extremely close to the large table and uncomfortable. I asked her to seat us in one of the four seater tables and she completely declined saying "in case someone comes in then how do we sit them" .I called out there were literally 6 tables empty but she insisted that someone might come in and she wants to keep them ready and asked us to come back in 30 mins?! I understand if people were already there or it was reserved ,but isn't the point of a restaurant to have a good enjoyable meal ? This lady really needs to have better manners and to be able to communicate better. We were excited to try this place as it was my sister''s birthday but just ruined our mood. We were in the area to watch the Arnold Classic. We were looking around to have lunch and we found this nice place on our way to the hotel. This is a huge place with very nice ambiance. We were greeted by the receptionist and seated at a nice place. We ordered some of my favorites such as chicken 65, kofta curry, naan, masala Pappad and of course my all time favorite - chicken dum biryani. Chicken 65 was very good. Chicken pieces were nice and tender. Had lots of flavor from the south India. We ordered medium spicy and I could see my husband sweating a lot. But loved the flavors. Kofta curry was nice. Loved the creamy texture and so nice to have it with the garlic naan. Biryani was the best part of our meal. It reminded of my favorite Hyderabadi biryani from India. They also give salaan which is very rare to find in any Indian restaurant in the US. It's slightly on the pricier side but I think it's a nice restaurant with good portions so it's worth paying slightly higher. read more

I first tried Haveli Bistro when it first opened because they had a great lunch buffet. It was amazing! Unfortunately, I think they have shutdown the buffet due to a freaking out over Covid. Hopefully, they will bring it back soon. Today I ordered delivery service. Today's choice was Tiki Marsala, Saag Paneer, and Naan bread. I made a Margarita just for the occasion lol. First, this is hands down the best Indian food I've had in Columbus, if not ever. I don't know what they do, but the layers of flavor and spices are spot on!! It's that good! Second, this is a little on the more pricy side of things. Everything totaled out to $52.52. I think this is super expensive for what you get. I justified the price because the taste is so good, but this isn't a place you can do often. I eat here as a treat. Third, the portions are super small compared to other places I order. My recommendation is to give this place a try as a treat. You'll have to see if you agree with me in terms of the taste. Either way, I don't think you will be disappointed. Our server recommended the special curry with chicken over the chicken tikka and I really enjoyed! This was a bit of a high end Indian restaurant so my expectations were low as I usually find good Indian food in hole-in-the-wall types of places. The food was good though. If I'm to rate everything we tried I would say chicken65 is 4/5, tandoori chicken 5/5, chicken tikka masala 3/5, goat dun biryani 3.5/5. I loved the tandoori chicken most but I wish there was more per serving. We ordered medium spice level but they were slightly more spicy than expected. The ambience is great, I would say 5/5. Service is quick although our server specifically seemed to have a lot on his plate. He was in a hurry all the time so we were a bit rushed to ask him for anything. I have always to try this restaurant and finally did last night. My wife and I were skeptical at first because there were so few patrons in the restaurant. Let me tell you it was a great experience from delicious food outstanding service and delicious beer all at a fair price. We ordered salmon tika as an appetizer and it was amazing. It was perfectly cooked in a tandoori pot and served on top of sautéed pickled cabbage and red and green pepper bites. The herbs and spices were fantastic. Our main meal was sag paneer also delicious at a spice level 2 out of 5. I like heat my wife doesn't. It barely had and heat at a level 2. We also had chicken Manchurian at spice level 4 out of 5. This dish was spicy but not unbearable. The chicken was flavorful and tender. The sauce was like delicious. Garlic Naan was also fantastic. The Food was good. A little over-priced but filling. The jalapeño Naan was delicious ! The staff seems hardworking but also overwhelmed. The host was also the waiter, also moving tables, grabbing orders and I wouldn't be surprised if they were a cook as well. They need one person for the front and who can seat people managing the crowd. Someone friendly and talk to guest. This makes a world of difference when trying to present yourself as a nice restaurant. The young lady who waited on us was very sweet and deserves a raise!
