I've been twice and each time the meat dishes were never replenished. I thought I might have caught them at a bad time so I tried again today. It was horrible. Out of 5 meat dishes where was a bit of chicken curry available. All others were empty both times I went through the buffet line. Do yourself a favor and stay away. The person there literally said there is no standard here and everyone's hands are different. I would avoid at all costs. I've experienced both, to-go and tried Friday buffet in Godavari restaurant. Lunch buffet on Friday was excellent. lot of options, very good services...very happy customer. But to-go was not good experience for 2 reasons. 1. Quantity..$10 chilli chicken. Please order yourself & figure it out. Comparing to BWW & Rooster, small bowl of chicken is not worth for $10. 2. Visited with my friend Sunita who I always let order my Indian food - whatever she's havin - I'm havin!! :) She prefers South Indian food and should really start yelping too so we can all benefit from her infinite knowledge. This makes me a bad foodie - but I just love ALL Indian food so I can't say I noticed a difference. Apparently the spices are slightly different. We were extremely hangry so my photos are of half eaten food, which is disappointing I know. haha!! We shared the Chilli Chicken appetizer and the Mysore Delight Dosa. If I were to describe the chili chicken to someone who's never had Indian food I would describe it as India's version of General Tso's chicken. Obviously the flavors are completely different and in my opinion Indian food is way better and more complex than Chinese food. But I use it as an example for the sake of trying to describe this dish to someone who's never had this magical type of cuisine. Fried chicken cutlets served in a aromatic blend of Indian spices. A beautifully red spicy sauce with a few peppers and onions thrown in, not served on rice and found on the appetizer menu. It was just so comforting we were both so hungry and it was the middle of a busy work week for both of us, definitely stress reliever food. When the Dosa came out it really was impressive I'm sad we tore it open before we took a picture. The dosa came with several different dips that were a delight to try one curry like, one kinda nutty and one spicyish. I'd like to share my newly acquired knowledge on how to eat dosa. It comes in a pyramid shape and you tear the pyramid open then you tear a pinch of the pancake like exterior (the dosa) into your fingers while holding your pinch of dosa you dive into the center where your chosen filling rests and grab a pinch of that too. Then you dip if desired. Tear -Pinch - Dip! Sunita choose a potato veggie mixture. I have to add the cooked down soft cashews in the mixture really highlighted the texture and taste of the filling. My family came here on a whim. Generally speaking, we enjoy Indian food, so it seemed like a good choice. Upon entering, we discovered a seat-yourself system where we took a table off to the right. The woman who greeted us gradually (one by one) gave us each glasses, menus, and silverware. We weren't super sure what to order, so we took our time perusing the menu. When the waiter came over, he took the liberty of pointing out what we should get, even denying us the option of choosing on our own. We didn't mind all too much, since this place was new, but it still stood out as very unusual. Our food came out extremely staggered. First was my mother's smoothie, which came about 5 minutes before the first appetizer. After we had long finished that, the second came out, roughly 10 minutes afterwards. This pattern continued with the following dishes. After about an hour and a half passed, we had all finished our food at different times, opting to share with each other rather than watch one another eat. By the way, the food was, in fact, very good. But the service was SO slow!! Getting the check was a hassle, and the servers didn't seem too concerned with getting us through in a timely manner. Carryout order was promised for 30 minutes and took 55 minutes. Restaurant lobby was dirty and sweltering. I don't know how hot they had the thermostat set, but it was 83 degrees outside, and outside was significantly cooler than in the restaurant lobby. NEW OWNER REVIEW We were very disappointed to see that Cumin has changed ownership to a chain Indian restaurant. All I can say is, do not go there. It was absolutely filthy. The plates were dirty, the tables were dirty, the buffet area was truly disgusting. We arrived at the buffet at 1 pm and every other dish was empty. It took 10-15 minutes to refill just one dish. Based on the filth and lack of food being replaced, it didn't appear that anyone was monitoring the buffet area. In all my years, I've never seen such disorganization at a restaurant. This chain boasts itself as being the largest Indian buffet. Unfortunately, this means that food quality is seriously compromised. Every piece of Chicken Masala had small bits of bones, gristle or connective tissue. Because the chicken looked liked cut into traditional small pieces of meat, I bit into it as I normally would. Bad move. I actually hurt a tooth when I hit the bit of bone. The Coriander Chicken was completely dried out and hard. It looked like an abandoned chicken nugget that you'd find under a car seat. Another thing was that several of the dishes had a strange antiseptic aftertaste. The naan was soggy. The raita tasted like French onion dip - strong onions and sour cream, no cucumber or other spices. We didn't eat more than 3/4 cup of food in total. It was absolutely the worst food I've ever had. Ever. The final blow was when we told the front person how disappointed we were with the quality of food, the lack of food, the bits of bone and the general dirtiness. She said, "Ok. That's $28." Seriously. We asked for a manager and she said they didn't have any. What?!? I would avoid this place at all costs. If you do find yourself there, take a look at the buffet before you eat. After Cumin closed, we decided to give Godavari a shot. To begin with, the prices were higher than what we were used to with Cumin, and the portion sizes were tiny for the price. We miss Cumin already! Our first visit here we were told that the menu wasn't available, only the buffet. The restaurant was packed with customers. We imagined the buffet would be full of creative, fresh, diverse options. Instead it was full of many very similar tasting items pretty much all prepared to the same level of spiciness and texture. There was no feeling that we were enjoying something unique or specially prepared. Service was friendly, but obviously inexperienced... We ordered a chocolate dosa for our daughter and she seemed to like it. Service was just OK but the woman was kind. There was somewhat of a language barrier and overall the other staff wasn't very warm or friendly. Other observations - asked for milk to drink for our daughter. We went for a LUNCH BUFFET on Friday (08/02/18). We entered in the restaurant at 1:30 PM . Generally, I don't write any reviews but it was a WORST experience we have had for their food and service. NO food at the buffet table. Most of the items were very less or completely ran out. Manager said they don't fill up buffet around 2:00 PM, but they still charge full price $13.99. Food was WORST. Extremely disappointing!!! The restaurant was barely quarter full and we still had to wait for nearly 10 minutes to be seated at a table. The selection was bare minimum. Most of the dishes at the buffet weren't replenished although it was at the peak of lunchtime. The few that were there looked like they've been sitting there for quite a while, all dried up. The chicken biryani & chicken tikka masala were over and the server said that they are making fresh batches in the kitchen. Once the biryani arrived, I went to get some. What a shock to see no steam coming off the "freshly" prepared dish when I lifted the lid of the beautiful serving dish. And worst of all, the whiff of SPOILED food caught my nose!!! My husband tasted it and confirmed the biryani was indeed "off" & worst of all cold... We decided to leave & told the manager. This place is awful. Employees sitting at booths playing loud audio on their phones and reading news papers. Server brought warm pitcher of water with no ice. Ordered a double vodka and cranberry. Told they don't have any mixers, so I asked for a lime. They brought me the smallest amount of vodka with a tiny ice cube and a quarter of a lime cut into 4 pieces. I came to this restaurant with high expectation. Upon walking in the ambience was very welcoming. The service was prompt. I ordered rava masala dosa, mysore dosa and mutton biriyani. Both the dosa were very soggy and not crispy as they should be. For mutton biriyani we asked for medium spicy, and it came to be blazing hot.
