Awesome place real old school jewelers who can solder and repair your pieces in house. It reminds me of Mr Pittman who ran a local jewelry spot in Clayton. The men there were so friendly and helpful. My newest piece had become tangled in the box and the man who assisted me gladly took out his magnifying glass and tweezers to unravel it. He measured the required area that needed an extension, then showed me comparable chains we could order to do job. During the conversation he gave me a great money saving way to repair item by using some of my old jewelry that was just sitting in my jewelry box. An honest and savvy jeweler you can't ask for more. Not to mention they are next door to my favorite Delta 8 store. I will be a frequent customer my jewelry can be cleaned as I shop. My experience here was with Todd. We brought my wife's ring in to have the stones changed out. While the stones were being switched out Todd had to damage the setting in order to remove one of the stones without destroying it. He decided to do this without consulting us first. We were contacted that the ring is finished but is damaged and were told it would cost extra to have the setting repaired. I objected at having to pay for damage that may have been avoided if we were consulted before the damage was done. He refused to even lower the cost of repair, and instead discounted the price for changing out the stones. In the end we were returned a ring with one setting damaged, and will be going to another jeweler to have it repaired as I was afraid more damage might be done during his repair without my consent. I reviewed this as two stars because throughout the whole ordeal Todd was polite and respectful, but was firm that we should have to pay for the damage he caused to our ring. If anyone is to go with this jeweler I would suggest having something in writing requesting that any additional costs or changes from the initial agreement must be agreed upon by both parties before continuing with the repair. read more

The owner and Godfrey was great in removing links in my watch my brother gifted me for my birthday. However for taking out 3 links that took all of 2 minutes, I was charged $30. I don't mind paying but that was gouging. Family small business, I get it. You need the revenue - but at least work with your customers. I for one am highly unlikely to return for any repairs or jewelry purchases. A heads up on the rate prior to doing the 2-minute job so I was aware I was about to get gouged would have been lovely. Probably still would have went thru anyway because I would have appreciated the earnestness beforehand. Baileys just did the same operation on another watch of mine. For free. Pathetic. $20 for watch batteries at 3pm in a empty store less than a mile from my house. Supposedly a "high-end" store, but I have shopped with Carlyle and Friedman's my entire life, and what makes a jeweler genuinely "high end" is their relationship with ALL customers, particularly those who are neighbors to their store. Godfrey's customer service is NOT indicative of our neighborhood nor Raleigh. Please DO NOT pay exaggerative prices for underwhelming service. Read the other low reviews, and take our advice. You can learn a lot from how a wealthy establishment forgets the tasks that are part of the established trade they claim to represent. And for those who have had shabby customer service, here's a question: When there are no customers in the store, but the lone worker quotes exaggerated prices followed by a quick recommendation of where to get a cheaper product that they carry, what's the most consistent reasoning for a business to turn down a sale to a BM for something they have in stock? Watch the movie Life, and wait for the "pies" scene. Disgusted. I own my own home a mile from this store, believe me I could have paid the price for a necessity like watch batteries. But I choose to spend my money where its appreciated, how about you? I went in with a bunch of jewelry to have repaired and rather than taking all of it, they actually told me about other jewelry places in Raleigh that can fix some of my pieces for cheaper than them. I didn't know that kind of honesty still existed in businesses! The pieces they did repair came out great and were very reasonable priced. Not only was I given honest answers, but the most reasonable and cost effective approaches were discussed instead of them pushing any service. I have had terrible experiences at other jewelers including a chain that completely messed up a ring my late father had given me and then they didn't care at all. Godfrey jewelers is a top notch jewelry store. I was gifted a 14k gold pinky ring with a 3/4 carat diamond and took it to Godfrey to appraise and clean it. I don't like to leave valuables with someone I just met so they let me look at the diamond under the microscope so I could see the slight inclusions and verify it is mine when they finished repairs. I used Godfrey's Jewelers for my fiance's engagement ring. When first looking around, I didn't want to go to one of the large cookie-cutter jewelery stores. Everything worked out very well from the very beginning. Todd Godfrey was super nice, and very helpful the entire time. It was funny in the beginning because whenever I told my family/friends where I was getting the ring, they would all say the same thing, "Ohhhhh I love Todd, he did 'this and that' for me'". I took a mechanical watch here to deal with two issues: fogging inside the crystal and to get the dates to flip over closer to midnight. My watch was returned and I soon discovered that the hands were replaced improperly and touched each other at certain points, preventing them from turning. I took my watch back and was told that that was an indication that the movement was damaged in an expensive-to-repair way. When I told him that it worked fine before I gave it to him, he agreed to fix it, clearly not remembering before that he had just serviced it, despite it having been only a few weeks. After a week or so he told me that he had to ship it somewhere to get it repaired. This was the beginning of about three months without my watch. When it was finally returned, it came back without the band or clasp. He agreed to replace them, and I told him the exact products that he had lost. He replaced them with inferior products, but I was tired of dealing with him at this point. To top it all off, the watch still fogs. I would seriously suggest that you not trust your watches to Godfrey's. read more

What a wonderful store! Mr. Godfrey is knowledgable and attentive. I took in four watches for battery change and he even cleaned one of the band that was dirty. He made great recommendations when I inquired about certain brands and gave me other resources to look further into the brands. Not a big box store but the attention and the service you receive from a family-owned store that takes pride in their business and really knows the industry will always surpass the "bargains" you may get from a mega box mall stores. I can't say enough positive things about Todd and Godfrey's Jewelers! We are so fortunate to have such a qualified and experienced jeweler in the area! He helped us design our wedding rings and set a gorgeous ruby for my engagement ring. He also helped me modify my grandmother's gold wedding band to match the setting of my newly designed ruby ring, so they compliment each other as a pair. Todd is so honest and great at helping me figure out what will work best for the jewelry piece. He generously spent hours with me to get the designs right and make sure I would be happy with the product. Also, I wanted to shine my jewelry, which he helped with a couple pieces, but then let me know that Bed, Bath, and Beyond has silver cleaning cloths and it would be cheaper, and almost as good, to just do that on my own. Ohmigosh! Godfrey's does BEAUTIFUL work. My father gave my mother a Lindy star sapphire in 1968 as an engagement ring. She gave it to me on my 13th birthday. I never wore it and it sat in a jewelry box. My father passed away in 1995. I have gotten sentimental in my "old " age and wanted to wear it. I did not like the thin band on the ring. I took it in to Mr. Todd Godfrey. He suggesteyd a slightly wider band. He explained that he would keep the gem and setting intact because of the sentimental value it holds for me. I did not know what to expect, but was I WOWED!! Todd cut the original band about an inch from the setting on each side and placed it on the new, wider band I selected. The placement is seamless and shows off Todd's skills. The ring is GORGEOUS! It gives the original setting a little height and modernized the ring. Todd did an excellent job!! I put my trust, as well as a valued ring, into his capable hands, and he exceeded my expectations. Thank you Mr. Godfrey for doing a WONDERFUL job. I'm beyond pleased. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. HORRIBLE customer service. Upon walking in I was insulted about my jewelry which yes was not top quality but was sentimental and simply needed some hooks put back together. Upon asking price I was told $20 to add a hook to a maybe $10 necklace. I exclaimed "holy shit" not at the jeweler literally just looking down at the necklace in surprise that a hook could cost more than the necklace and they pushed all my jewelry back to me. In turn, tangling what I had just untangled and said that's not how a lady talks and we won't work with you and walked into the back of the store leaving me in the lobby alone. I proceeded to apologize and say I wasn't doubting their work, meaning to be offensive or directing any foul language at them I was just surprised. They said apology accepted and I asked if we could just proceed and they refused first saying it was about language which I simply said shit once and profusely apologized and then insulting my jewelry saying we don't typically do costume jewelry anyways (which they were fine to fix 5 min prior). Meanwhile I'm standing there shocked and they proceeded to stay in the back of the store so I couldn't even see them. I asked multiple times where another jewelry repair shop is and was ignored until maybe the 3rd time they shouted out the name of another. All while staying in the back. I've literally never been treated that way in any establishment. I'm a 26 year old white female who walked in wearing high end workout clothes. I simple said shit out of surprise and was shunned like a leper. Avoid this place at all costs. read more
