Hungry, I started with a Greek side salad. That was a refreshing beginning with all the usual ingredients. A generous amount of dressing came on the side, be sure to include the good seasonings settled on the bottom of the container. In what seemed only a few minutes our pizza arrived. From their Specialty Pizzas section, we had picked their Meat Lovers pizza. This 14" beauty was topped with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and meatball. It was delicious and also too much food for us. I love eating great pizza until I just can't eat anymore. They also offer a 10" personal size and a 16" pie. I searched Yelp for a pizza place close to where I was visiting and came up with Godson's, I had not heard of them before. We stopped in for lunch. It's a small place, they have a handful of tables for dining in and they do a good takeout business. We learned they have been open for a couple of years, initially on Cortez and moved to this Manatee Ave spot last September (2024). After our meal we were able to chat with Andrew, our order taker / food deliverer, and also learned many of their regulars have followed them to this location. Should be called GodAwful. As soon as we walked in we should have left, dirty stained ceiling tiles, with stuff all over the floor. Ordered - House Salad with ranch. - chopped wilted iceberg, sad sliced tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers. Ranch was hidden valley. - Cheesebread, basically a hoagie roll with some butter, garlic seasoning and barely melted cheese. I have never seen garlic cheese read be left even in the worst pizza places and we left 2/3rds - "Classic Pizza" large. (Sausage, Mushroom, Pepperoni) - in the reviews people said the crust is good. What???? Crust is akin to a Tombstone Frozen oven pizza crust. Sausage is the crappy pre cooked nuggets, sauce was like prego. - 2 corona. surely u can't mess that up, wrong. Not very cold. I grew up in New Jersey in a " Sopranos" town. So my standard for pizza and other Italian foods is pretty high. But the chicken Parmesan sandwich I got at this place today was the worst ever. Overcooked, dry and burnt chicken with a small dollop of marinara. Nice amount of mozzarella, but that couldn't save it. Total waste of money. Newly opened pizza place in Bradenton. As the backstory goes, when the original owner of Demitrios retired, he gave this restaurant to his Godson, hence the name. The new owner has taken the good qualities that Demitrios once had and bumped it up a couple of stars. Our party order the following: Medium sized greek salad: more than enough to split between three people. The dressing seemed to be slightly different, but was still good and tasty. The feta had a bit more taste to it. Chicken noodle soup: very similar to Demitrios chicken orzo, but different pasta. Very good. Two small pizzas. One pepperoni and mushroom, the other a deluxe. We requested extra crispy and well. They hit the mark. Crispy, well done, not greasy. In my opinion the pizza was better than Demitrios. The toppings ample and fresh....good pepperoni and sausage. One person ordered the baked ravioli with meat sauce. I had a bite, and it was delicious. Nice chunky meat sauce, with onions, and extra melted cheese on top. Our waiter....he was excellent. On point, never lacking anything, had great timing, prebussed the table, and everything came out as requested and nothing forgotten. BEST pizza in town !!! This place is definitely better than the one that was there before. My husband got a Philly Cheese Steak and I got a Large Meat Lovers Pizza. The Cheese Steak was fully loaded and came on a hot sub bun that was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It had tons of meat and just the right amount of mozzarella cheese. I was so busy eating my pizza I forgot to take a picture of it. The pizza was exceptional !! The crust is hand tossed and I asked them to make it a thin crust. It came out perfectly, the crust was crispy on the bottom and despite the fact that it had tons of meat on it, there wasn't a big pool of grease in the center, which usually makes the crust soggy and floppy. The pepperoni has great flavor and they don't over do it on the cheese. The sauce is fantastic also, not too sweet or salty just perfect ! The service was far above average also. Went there last night to get takeout pizza and greek salad. called ahead and they said be ready in 20-25 min. I arrived 25 min later and after arrival the lady said she would need to make the salad and went back to make it herself. First I have to say. The employees are very friendly. Skyler was our server and his personality combined with attention to detail would allow him to work at any restaurant. Really wish I had taken photos but the food was so good I forgot. We stopped on Sunday and they were closed. So we made the trip again last night. They were pretty busy but were able to clean a booth for us. The hostess said it would be a few min because they only had 2 servers. She ended up being our server and we really didn't wait long at all. We ordered the mozzarella sticks. They were hot, fresh, light and crispy. Hubby ordered a pizza and I got the baked eggplant dinner. My dinner was just $8.99 for a huge portion and came with a salad and garlic bread. What a deal. Get the Greek salad and use their Greek dressing. It was phenomenal. Hubby had a bite and had to order a salad for himself. My meal was hot and delicious. Hubby ordered ricotta on his pizza (we did not see it on the menu but they accommodated). It was fresh and they gave a good amount of toppings. The only complaint would be for the pizza to be baked a bit longer. The center was a tad floppy. We can just ask them to do so next time. Food came out in a timely manner.
