We went there around 1pm on 9/30/2013 The only good thing was that my 18 month old daughter seemed to enjoy seeing the animals and seeing other kids. However for $10 a person this place is a total waste of money. Completely empty on weekdays. I understand weekdays are not going to be as eventful as weekends but they charge $13 on the weekends anyways. Everything that was advertised was closed off and no workers were to be seen to help us. The map is really inaccurate so couldn't find some things. ALL the animals looked sad and malnourished. Skin and bones. I doubt animals from Africa and south american should be in tents in 60 degree weather... The giraffe feeding was neat but they should have some one there to monitor it. It ended up biting my daughter even though we held her and used the shovel. It broke skin. They have a little hidden sign that says "spoon feed animals and parents must supervise" We did that. They should warn you that they sometimes dont let go and bite.... either that or they shouldn't have it out like that where it can be dangerous to some kids. In the petting zoo they have ostriches but no safety measures around them. They were reaching theyre heads out the bars and trying to bite little kids... the tigers, camels, bears, monkeys, water buffalo and antelopes all looked depressed and sick and seemed like they didnt have the energy to stand up. They charge $10 on weekdays and $13 on weekends. Then they charge to do activities too. Other places charge either admission or for tickets. They need to choose between the two. Or make it more exciting for those who don't want to pay more for activities other than watching robotic chickens singing. We ended up leaving after an hour of basically walking around looking for something exciting to do.. I ended up going up to the manager and NICELY explaining my disappointment and how my husband and I did not enjoy our selves. He then looked startled and said "you are the first to tell me that ever.".. I said "well I'm sorry but I was taught to be honest and I honestly was disappointed and feel like we wasted our money. No offense to your establishment but I'm sure it may just be an off day..." He then asked "well what did you guys do? How long did you spend here? Did you even go on the jumping pillow?" And I told him "We looked at the animals, we've been here for maybe an hour and no we couldn't go on the jumping pillow because each time we went over there, it was closed with no one there" he then rudely said "well I don't know what you expected" I then nicely said "well we have gone to other places that had lower prices and had a blast" Then he started like quizzing me about other places told me if I can tell him 2 things the other places have that he doesn't, he'll give me my money back. So I did... "friendly staff and better prices, you get a free pumpkin for completing the maze, bigger market, little shops, free rides" He then said "Well i'll give you your money back as long as you do me a favor... don't ever come back here" I took the $20 from him and told him "it would be my pleasure" I was so nice approaching him but that man had no sense of customer services. Along with all the employees. We stood around for 5 minutes in front of the register before the ladies standing behind it noticed us. So in conclusion... -RUDE MANAGEMENT -over priced -half of the advertised attractions were closed -animals mistreated -WASTE OF MONEY! Do not waste your time. Ive heard good things about the one in south barrington and most people I've talked to don't even know there's one in pingree grove/Hampshire. Not sure if they have the same manager but either way, wouldn't even try. And I keep hearing that theyre getting worse and worse and more expensive each year. Obsessed with this place. Perfect family atmosphere. Nursing mother friendly- has a mommy and baby hut which is so convenient when you are spending the day taking in all of the activities with an older child when you also have a baby to tend to... I can't even begin to describe how much fun we had on our family fun day! My family & I had an absolutely AMAZING time yesterday! We did just about eveything that was offered to us! My 2 year old twins had their very first pony ride here, my daughter rode a camel (her brother was a bit scared, can you blame him :) ?), they picked pumpkins, rode the train, watch piggies race, fed bunnies, goats, camels, a huge friendly giraffe, kangaroos & MORE! I came here all the time when I was a kid, and I still go back from time to time. Their donuts and apple cider are killer. The dinosaur is always fun, especially for kids. I played tag in the corn maze when I was younger, which was pretty much the best thing ever. Every time I go here it's a good time. Such an adorable, family-friendly, place. My 2 year old niece never wanted to leave and neither did I! I am a HUGE animal rights activist and they do treat the animals properly. The rabbits have plenty of food and space and get to hop around on the cozy grass. I always love going to see the giraffe! They're my favorite animals and it's such a fun experience to feed them! As for the food, it's delicious! Their apples and veggies are so fresh! I love going to pick out my pumpkin for Halloween. And the pumpkin eating dinosaur, he's hilarious! I am a stereotypical cynical and jaded LA girl, I can fully admit this. We don't go to "farms" to pick out holiday decorations like trees or pumpkins. We don't cut mazes out of corn or pet smelly farm animals. I've never seen a hog race and I rarely eat donuts. So.... when my Chicago friends offered me a chance to go against all these policies on one fine fall day? Yeah I took the chance. Definitely worth the short hour road trip out of the city just to experience it all. Corn maze? woulda been better without so many people making it obvious which way to go, but still very fun. Hog races? interesting... but entertaining Pumpkin eating dinosaur? Hilarious and definitely awesome for the kiddies. Stupid wood cut outs for taking pictures? Ridiculously amusing Petting zoo? Very fun, if only just to see how excited it makes the little ones. The food? DELICIOUS! Apple cider donuts cannot be described in any word other than perfect. But definitely skip the "I need to try both the cinnamon/sugar coated ones and the glaze" hesitation and jump into a big box of the glazed ones! The cider itself was delicious and perfect for a chilly day and the chocolate covered pretzels were yummy too. The pumpkins? Definitely worth it. At only 40 cents/lb they're a good deal and nothing beats the wholesome feeling of riding the tractor out to the field to pick out the one that will most perfectly suit your carving whims! They also have a large selection of gourds, squash and various types of smaller pumpkins that would make for perfect fall decorations or would be awesome for some yummy soups! I would have liked this place but then I saw the animals. Really disturbing. I was cold so how all of the animals that should be in warm climates weren't cold is a mystery??? Sad little pens. We have been coming here for almost a decade but we may not continue the tradition. There is a lot to do. The prices are a little painful, as the y increased to 15.00 per person. That doesn't include the cost for feeding the livestock, purchasing a pumpkin (which has always been overpriced) or feeding yourself. We went to the Hampshire location because it is a nice farm, very family friendly. The Schaumburg facility made you pay for everything separately. I have been going to Goebberts since I was little. There used to be one in Arlington Hts as well where you could buy Halloween costumes, cider, etc.I ALWAYS enjoyed going there every year...I was happy to keep the tradition with my own children..That was until I saw that horrifying way they treat the exotic animals that they keep there for the fall season. Horrifying is putting it mildly. These poor animals (Monkeys, Giraffes, Yaks, Kangaroos, Exotic birds, Ostriches, and Zebras, just to name a few) are kept in TINY metal cages (that cannot be more than 8x6) just sitting there because they have NO ROOM to move. The monkey's were among the most depressing to see. As most people know monkey's and primates in general are highly intelligent animals and for them to sit there like that was absolutely horrible. There was one monkey who was completely alone, not even a single companion for him. Animal Abuse is completely evident here. These animals are given nothing but a bunch of Hay and straw to sit on...Really??? These are NOT BARNYARD animals, and they do NOT belong in the midwestern climate. I ran out of the tent as fast as I could and the entire rest of my visit there was ruined and I refused to spend another penny in the place regardless of what my kids were asking for because of how angry seeing those poor animals made me feel. I looked into the company these use to "rent" these beautiful animals and found out it was Timbavati Wildlife Park based out of Wisconsin Dells. http://911animalabuse.com/tag/backyard-breeder/page/4/ Apparently owner, Mark Schoebel (owner) has been an exotic animal "broker" for decades and He has also provided animals for canned hunts. A "canned hunt" is essentially a cowardly form of animal assassination; animals are hunted not in the wild but in restricted areas where hunters can be virtually guaranteed a "kill". PLEASE read the information on this man and what he has done with these animals and PLEASE if you love and respect animals do NOT return to Goebberts until they stop supporting Mark Schoebel and his disgusting 'Exotic wildlife Park' which if you also look them up on Yelp you will see the horrible Mark's Wildlife park has received as well. I added this post to Goebberts's facebook page and not surprisingly they deleted it...Shocking. It is super sad to see the tradition stop here but in good conscience I cannot go back and support Goebberts again until these exotic animals are removed. read more

Our family goes to Goebbert's every year and we have so much fun! We could spend all day there with all the different activities they have. Each year they seem to think of a cool new attraction for kids and adults. The family is super nice and go above and beyond to make sure their guests are having a good time. I went here last year and felt so sad and awful about the exotic animals that I vowed we wouldn't ever go back---which is a shame b/c they have so many other fun things there to do. No outdoor farm outside of Chicago has any business having wild/exotic animals on display in cramped quarters and cold conditions. Cows? Pigs? Goats? Other natural barnyard friends? Great! My kids don't care- any animal is wonderful for them to see and touch. We don't need Zebras, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Monkeys, etc. etc. and other animals that belong in the WILD at a PUMPKIN PATCH. I'd also like to know what happens to all of those baby animals after the fall season is over? I think it's a fair question they should have to answer. I wish they would stick with pumpkins, bouncing pillows, corn maizes, delicious donuts, etc. and leave the exotic animals to expertly staffed/trained sanctuaries and wild animal parks that know how to properly care for these animals. Until then, we won't back and I will be sharing the latest news of the bear cubs death at their farm in Barrington in hopes other people don't patronize either location. So sad :( read more

There are some nice activities here. And they have wonderful apple cider donuts. However, the $8 charge per person (even for kids) to get in applies even if you just want to buy pumpkins (except for a small selection in their shop) and even if you just want to stop for a bite to eat. Roasted corn ears are $2.50 each. There are separate charges for animal rides. Not a bad place, but the high charge to get in was disappointing. No real toilets and no changing tables. There are other nice pumpkin patches with activities in the area that have much more reasonable charges to enjoy fall activities and pick pumpkins. read more

I have gone here the past 4 years and every year I think the same thing, "We just spent $50 on that???". I took my 10 month old daughter last year and was very surprised they didn't give any discounts on young children. Seriously? $8 for a baby who is going to sit in her stroller the whole time? Too expensive..nearly spent $100 on 3 kids and 1 adult just to get in. Yes they have a lot of animals to see but be careful! I actually got bitten by one of the zebras on the arm pretty badly, and still have teeth marks and bruising from it! Parents BEWARE! I told one of the staff and the lady was kind of rude by disregarding what happened. I'm just glad it wasn't my 4 year old that got bitten! Overall, not too much to do that adds up to what they charge. Goebbert's definitely provides a wide array of fall activities for kids and families, and the staff was friendly, but I cannot get past the "Animal Land" section of their farm. It is clear that their dozens of exotic animals on display are treated inhumanely. They are kept in tiny cages all together under a big tent, without direct sunlight or proper ventilation or NEARLY enough room. The animals are all obviously depressed and/or stressed out. It's extremely upsetting and I would encourage anyone looking for a fun experience to AVOID Goebbert's and choose to spend your money somewhere with more ethical treatment of animals. Luckily, there are plenty of other options out there. It's really disappointing to see this kind of inhumane treatment at an otherwise great location. read more

We were excited to visit (1st time) because it's so close to home but we were disappointed. Entrance fee is rthe eating area was infested with bees & the animals have poor living conditions. I have been to Goebberts two times and, compared to the other farms I have been to, this is by far the best. My daughter loves the train with the skeletons and literally talked about it for a year until we returned. We enjoy taking the tractor ride to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins too. What a neat experience! Every year Goebberts makes it a little bigger and, subsequently, more awesome. Terri, and everyone at Goebberts is super nice and helpful. Pros are giraffe petting,cute train ride,pony rides,the dancing chicken animotronics,hay pyramids,dinosaur pumpkin crusher,corn maze and lots of displays for kids to play on. Cons the animal tents exotic animals do look unhappy and Brookfield zoo is a much better option especially bee at the zoo with year pass,,they also need to update the dinosaur needs a makeover as he makes them alot of money and the pumpkin cannon needs to be a bigger more frequent spectacle,the train ride could be even better and the worst con was the woman handling the camel ride she had a terrible attitude all the partents complained about her phsycho sneers and snickers,she should have never been working there,This place honestly is becoming too pricey and the management doesnt seem to care about the customers as though they have outgrown there own concept and cant relate anymore to the customer with small children read more

Been going to goebberts hampshire for years. My grandkids love it, one is 15, the other two are 10. I Asked them if they still want to go, they said oh yes !!the food is very good, its neat, clean and kid friendly for sure. Grandpa and i look forward to our tradition, something there for everyone, just enjoying fall things. Getting our own pumpkins in the field is the hilite, as well as the cider donuts. After going here for over 8 years of a great family fall tradition, we were greatly disappointed at the new format. They have changed it so that you cannot even access the majority of the pumpkins in the grass field without buying tickets. Now, we've always bought tickets to the petting zoo, ride the ponies and camels, jump on the pillow. But one of the other parts of this trip we always enjoyed was to relax in the grass while the kids picked out pumpkins and played on the giant truck jungle gym. Now you can't even get to that area without buying tickets. The ticket lines have always been long, but now they are outrageous. They have not changed the format of selling tickets (not available online and they haven't added additional ticket booths) so the lines are ridiculous as every person who walks through the door needs to buy tickets, even if they just want to pick out pumpkins and take pictures. Unless of course you want to pick out one of the reject pumpkins they leave out on the cement walkway - a less than idea place for a cute fall picture with your kids. We are done. We will not return. We spent $50 for a mediocre lunch in a crowded and hot tent and $80 in the store for some gords, pumpkins, donuts and cider in a overcrowded store. In the past we haven't minded the cost or the crowds because we were able to enjoy the animals, playtime and picking pumpkins. This time we left with our kids in tears that the lines were to long to get tickets to the petting zoo. Very disappointing. We will be looking for a new pumpkin patch for next year and telling all our friends who went here in the past to do the same. Shame on you Goebberts. You were already cashing in and now families can't even buy a decent pumpkin at your farm without having to pay even more! read more

I love working at golberts as the owner of the zoo is a friend of mine. Sadley I could not make it there this year because of my work. But anyway I love reading all the posts, and I am glad yyou are having a good time. I am reading a lot about the price, but we must remember the cost of feed for the animals is way up because of the dry summer. It takes a lot to feed shelter and care for the animals.
