This place was a perfect day trip for adults and kids. There is a variety of food options and we got the walking talking with steak which was good. Also got some warm apple cider donuts. This place was free but you just had to pay for food and rides tickets. Overall loved the goats and animals here. The pumpkin patch was really nice where you could buy some small or big pumpkin. It such a great place for family and a lot of seating area. They have a little shop where you can buy animal feeds, homemade pickled jars or even sweets. I would just like to say how disgusted/disappointed we were with lat nights rodeo-it sucked! We paid over 30 p/p 10 adults and 4 kids, and not one person was able to lasso a calf. We also paid over 150 in drinks and food. We were there for my granddaughters 5 th bday. Last year was awesome/so she picked that for her bday. Absolutely aweful a lot of folks even left. They and you should be ashamed of that performance. Did not even get to see a bull ride/gate opened man dow embarrassing. Not sure I will ever go again. This review is long overdue! My husband and I came during Halloween for the haunted hayride and then again for the walk through Xmas light display. We have so much fun here! Sad to see some unfavorable reviews because it seems like the staff tries really hard to make sure everyone has a good time. This was the first haunted hayride my husband and I did and we had so much fun! The displays were awesome, the actors were great, and it was a decent length. They did have food options, we opted to buy some apple cider donuts and they were delicious. The Xmas light selection was decent. We had a lot of fun, I just wish it was longer. It was super fun how they had the house for the Xmas story and the displays they did have, were beautiful. They had the option to buy s'more kits and had a fire pit available. Super cute touch! This is for sure a very family friendly place. They have tons of rides for smaller kids and they even allow dogs, which I think is nice! The overwhelming majority of things to do are for children, so I didn't have much fun here as a young adult. The two things I did enjoy were the goat feeding and haunted hayride. I'd definitely go back to experience the hayride at night! There's also a bar for the adults. I tried the apple cider which was delicious! I didn't try anything else, but there were quite a few options around but I didn't see anything vegetarian/vegan friendly. It's free to get in but you have to buy tickets and each ride costs a certain number of tickets. The tickets are $2 each which I think is steep for what you get there. All of the staff are pretty nice, though, and they have pumpkins all over to choose from. There's also a couple of shops around which ornaments, stuffed animals, snacks, and other things. Our first time visiting Sonny Acres. More stuff than Johanson's, but not as big as Bengston's. For us, that was just right! They have several carnival style rides which includes a little roller coaster which my kids went on twice. A lot of food options. Kind of like carnival food kicked up a few levels, so thumbs up there. Beer and cider for moms and dads. Lots of great Halloween themed photo ops all throughout. There's also a giant petting zoo in the middle. So you get a really good variety of attractions. Plus pick your pumpkins! What really impressed me was the hayride. They really went above and beyond decorating the "haunted" forest with scary scenes. It's probably even cooler at night lit up, but impressive during the day too because I was expecting the hayride to just take you through some corn stalks and that's it. This place is great for kids and smallies during the day and teens/preteens at night. There's a bar for mom and dad to hang at while your teens wander and enjoy the haunted house and hayrides on their own so you don't cramp their style. It looks as though they redecorate the whole place for Christmas and sell trees and have Santa, etc so I think we will return next season and enjoy it from a different perspective. (My only critique was the ticket buying system for the attractions. Just get a card reader, it makes life easier! Plus some of the food was cash only. They also have a full bar and a restaurant that offers many different food options. Very reasonably priced. There's carnival rides and a petting zoo for the kids. There are several pumpkin patches and country stores. Don't forget to buy your pumpkins to take home. Parking and admittance are free, but attractions require purchasing tickets. I was surprised by this pumpkin farm. First, it's free admission- this is very hard to find in the area. Of course, shops, attractions, food/beverages all cost money but it's great in the sense that you can somewhat control how much you spend for the day. I went with a group of 6 adults and 1 tiny tot. We all had a great time! We enjoyed the hay ride together, with a more friendly version during the day compared to a scarier version at night. Additionally, we went thru the haunted house & pet some of the friendly goats at the petting zoo. While the tiny tot went off to do some kiddie rides with her parents, a group of us got some snacks & hit the bar! A cocktail, warm food & pumpkins on a fall day---you can't go wrong here! Pros-free admission, good food (elote was amazing), control spending, portable trailer bathrooms with soap/sinks (much better than an outhouse), great backdrops to take pictures at, and a variety of activities to choose from. I used to bring my four little children every October in the 70s. Sonny Acres had so much charm. Costumed characters strolled the grounds. Beautiful costume shop that is no longer there. The hayride was so fun (and there wasn't anything on the grounds that even resembled a carnival ride!!) You would never see an ATM machine, Haunted House. Pony rides. Taffy Apples. Homemade cookies. Pumpkin pie slices. I have darling pictures of my kids sitting on pumpkins. Am so sad for the kids who will never know what it was like there once upon a time. I haven't been to Sonny Acres in quite some time - I think overall, it's pretty great for all ages. For the childless crowd that likes to drink, I didn't feel that this was overrun with kids, and the kid attractions were pretty far away from the built up bar area. We went as a group on a late Saturday afternoon & it seemed like all of Chicagoland also had the same idea. Parking is absolutely miserable. If you can carpool, do that. Or go drop your car somewhere else & have someone come get you. There also aren't really accessible parking spots that I could see. You might have to battle for those. They have lots of food options - get that corn dog that you've been missing in the month that carnival season has been dormant. If you're looking for Apple cider donuts, get them as EARLY as possible. They definitely sell out. Overall it's a great experience and they don't charge admission. read more

Sonny Acres is a massive rip off. The ride bracelets are only available on T-W-Th when they close at 6 pm. Friday, Sat & Sunday the rides are 2-3 tickets at a dollar a ticket. I took my 3 kids and had to spend $48 for 4/3 ticket rides and 2/2 ticket rides. The rides are short so we were done in about 20 minutes. They kept begging for more & don't understand "I'm sorry but the rides cost too much". Everything is way overpriced. The haunted hayride is $25 per person, so for a family of four $100! The haunted barn is $20 per person. It's hard to enjoy when you have to blow a ton of money. That's before you buy any food, drinks (lemonade is $10), pumpkins or go to the gift shop. read more

We waited over 30 minutes in a line to park and got directed back out of the parking lot without getting to park. We then had to drive over a quarter mile down the road to a school and wait another 30 plus minutes for a trolley to pick us up. The trolley was also disorganized. I haven't even gotten in yet! The place is tiny compared to many others so not much walking which is convenient for seniors or those with disabilities. When I was going on the hayride the driver of the tractor, looked like an older gentlemen about grandpa age idk if he was the owner or not but while proceeding to walk in after giving him our tickets he tried to hold back my little sister of 9 years of age out of the whole group I was in that included me, my baby father, my son, my friend and her son. He told her she couldn't get on the ride even though we gave them all the tickets. Idk what he was planning on doing. But the moment we came back to ask him why he grabbed her and held her back he started to mumble. We absolutely loved Sonny Acres so much!!! We came a week after Thanksgiving and of course we knew there had been a mad rush the week before on trees. The selection was small BUT the trees were outstanding and looked so beautiful!! We usually spend an hour or two trying to find the perfect tree and it was literally a Clark Griswald moment when we saw our tree in the first 10 minutes!! The staff was crazy friendly but not oppressive and we loved our young gentleman who helped us tie up our tree!!! Honestly we spent what we would have at the local nursery and this tree was so much nicer. It is our favorite tree yet!! I look forward to many years coming back here to purchase our tree!!!! The farm was perfect especially if you have children. There is a small portion for animals that are so adorable and I wanted to take home with me. We went to Sonny Acres the first weekend in October to take pictures of my 1year-old grandson amongst all the pumpkins and Halloween/Fall decorations. Our group consisted of myself and my husband, my son and daughter-in-law, my two teens and my adorable grandson. We had such a nice visit. The weather was great and the decorations were abundant. We bought apple cider donuts and according to everyone they were delicious (I'm allergic to cinnamon so I stayed away from the donuts). My daughter and daughter-in-law and I walked through the little shop and I found the prices pretty fair (much cheaper than Tom's Farm and Goebbert's). This farm has something for everyone !! I went in the fall and enjoyed their fall festival . In the day I know it is very kid friendly with rides , pumpkins , hay ride , face painting etc. I came in the evening and Thoroughly enjoyed the haunted barn, which had lots of scares twists and turns I also enjoyed the haunted hayride. They did such a great job of having so much to look at, and so many different scenes set up. They have tons of different food options that are your typical farm foods and then they have a bar area for the older crowd that has some bar food and tasty drinks. They have small shops you can shop in as well that have different souvenirs, fall themed trinkets, and fall treats, I love coming to Sonny acres every fall and I really think there's something for everyone. I would hope that these poor animals be treated with a little more kindness, empathy and compassion. I walked by the Goat Feeding station and saw a goat with his head stuck in the fence. Someone nearby said the animal had been stuck like that all day. Fortunately, after we called for help, we were able to save him from having his head stuck any longer! Had a chance to attend the walk through Christmas light show and it did not disappoint! Such a cool well lit walking path with so many lights and decorations to see. We had a blast at Sonny Acres this weekend! There are definitely activities for people of all ages. I would definitely recommend going earlier in the day, because it does get really crowded. As far as pricing goes, it's basically a la carte. You pay separately for each activity you do, so I imagine it could get a little up there when you come with kids. There is no entry fee, so if you're just there to walk around and get pumpkins, it's not bad at all. I think I made it though the whole day spending around $20 which covered a walking taco, water, and a spiked apple cider slushee. There were great options at the bar and plenty to eat, as well as picnic tables everywhere. They also have a haunted hayride and haunted barn at night, which we unfortunately missed out on. I'm sure it would've been great though because everything was so well organized. This is definitely a good place to stop on a great fall day! read more

We needed a last minute trip to a pumpkin patch, we thought there was apple picking we were wrong lol. Sonny Acres came highly recommended and I had never been. It was also my step-daughters first time so we wanted her to have a good experience. First off, Sonny Acres is free entry as opposed to many which are at least 10-15/per person. It's not a huge property but had everything we were looking for (except for the apple cider donuts, they were all out (cue the violin)). Everyone there was so kind and friendly. Our step daughter enjoyed the play area which was worth the 4 tickets. The hay ride was simple but fun as well. We plan on making this our annual fall event, it's very underrated but well worth it. I grew up going to Sonny Acres Farm. This place was magical! I remember all the beautiful details that were added to the barn store, the haunted house and everything Halloween! The place was so well maintained and a tradition for our family. Well, I have a family of my own now and the last three times it has gotten worse and worse. This last trip there this year was enough that we return again! The place is so run down, the store is pathetic, the staff doesn't care! The animals are not monitored and we saw a group of kids kicking the fence when the animals faces were right there. People were giving the animals items that were not food. We purchased our tickets on a Friday night at 4:30 and they shut everything down kid related at 4:45-4:50 even though they were open until 10 pm. They were kicking kids off the rides and kids were crying. It was very upsetting they took our money but then we couldn't do anything! I asked if we could at least put your tickets towards a pumpkin and that was a problem in the store. The manager handed me food for the animals and said here go feed the animals through the fence but you can't go in. Then turned to the cashier and said don't give out anymore! Not to mention the food and beverages there are horrible!!! Nothing but junk food!!! We left with sad kids that couldn't do anything on a Friday evening! And two adults that were beyond frustrated. I haven't been to any other pumpkin farm so I don't have anything to compare it with. I visited October 2018 and November 2019. Each ticket is worth a $1 and a sheet of tickets is $20. There're mini carnival rides, pony rides, and 2 animal stations: one is fence and can feed with open hand purchases food by coins, or another one is an actual petting zoo with food purchased by tickets. We've tried the carnival rides and the fun slide. My daughter had a great time. I haven't really tried the food because it's too cold to sit & eat, other than the corn on the cob. The biggest problem is that every amusement requires tickets, which are only available to purchase with cash. (Hi owners, Nobody carries cash anymore!) At the ATM trailer, there are 2 ATMs and one is broken down/ unusable. The line to use the ATM was 15 people long. The ticket booths should accept cards for the purchase of tickets. (Owners, this is a huge problem, fix it.) Lines were obnoxiously long for most amusements. The haunted hayride was very well done. Very large farm it is literally acres. My GPS brought me directions to the farm but you see the farm right before the GPS tells you to turn. There isn't a sign either, but a large hot air balloon if you will after entering. Parking is tough we circled the farm for a while it's a small lot. No price to enter but you have to buy tickets it is CASH ONLY there is an atm with a 2.50 surcharge. You hear free admission but by the time you purchase tickets ($2/piece activities range from 2-4 tickets) you're spending more than $20. We (myself, baby and dad) did 3 activities and I ran out of tickets. I had maybe 3 left. So be aware of that. There was live music, day hayride, haunted hayride, ponies, petting zoo and feed, small carnival type amusement rides (I would say about 4), and lots of food tents. The last hay ride is at 6pm. I've been to a lot of pumpkin patches and I would say this one stands out because of the small playground it has. The train was cute and fun but it made a loud annoying "chugging" sound. Lot of photo ops, apple cider donuts, slushies, there's a bar and fresh corn! I think overall I will return with cash. read more
