We heard that Goin' Coastal was an excellent restaurant that serves good seafood. I am not a seafood lover except for shrimp, but my husband loves seafood and we decided to go there for lunch today. First off, I was very surprised to see their Health/food rating was only a 73=C. I ordered the shrimp and cheese grits and my husband ordered a shrimp po'boy. He enjoyed his meal, but I was disappointed with mine. Several shrimp had shell pieces when I chewed on them and a lot of them were partially deviened. We will not be going back. read more

I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be very good. The last few times has been sub par. Most recently my husband and I became violently ill. The only item we shared was the salad so it must have had bacteria in it. It tasted odd. When he called to tell the manager we got sick she told us it was probably a stomach virus. 7:45 PM dinner on Valentine's Day. While there were people, I wouldn't describe the place as being packed. This was a first visit to this place and I had heard good things about the good and the atmosphere. I was expecting a bit of a quiet, intimate experience. We were seated on a bench style seat with a very small table and a chair opposite to the bench. We were close enough to the two couples on either side to hear every single word being said. The bar area was VERY noisy. It was almost a sports bard atmosphere with the staff talking VERY loud to patrons. This was my first let down. There is nothing like spending your Valentine's date trying to talk over the noisy bar staff behind you AND sharing conversation with people sitting less than an arm's length beside you. The waiter was polite and took our drink and appetizer order. We just had water as neither of us drinks soda or alcohol. We ordered a crab dip appetizer that was very good. Our dinner order was put in. A fish with bisque soup and a table lobster mac and cheese were ordered along with a salad. Time passed and we never really saw our waiter as our water glasses started getting empty. The salad came out and my salad plate was taken away with the exclamation of "There isn't room on the table!" The person never even asked me if I needed the small plate. The staff began bringing our food order out. Again, there was an exclamation of "There really isn't room, where do you want this?" I bit back a reply... It is YOUR little table at YOUR establishment, The mac and cheese was put down. I held on to my salad plate this time. My husband's fish came out.,... with grits instead of soup. The staff that brought it out said "Oh yeah, it did say soup on the ticket." Then he looked at us for guidance. He asked if it was okay to take the grits that we did not order. We, of course, said yes. He said he would return with the soup. We dished out lobster mac and cheese. It was lukewarm at best. We got through half of our meal and the soup finally appeared. Very good for seafood. We have been several times and have always been pleased. Shrimp is very good any dish you choose .

Sadly we didn't take any pictures of our beautiful meal, but man the food was excellent especially for a local Canton joint. We split the halibut special of the day and blackened redfish. Both dishes were expertly cooked, the redfish with a nice blackened crispness on the outside in maybe a creamy red pepper sauce (?) and the halibut in a vegetable preparation with the fish visually just a step above translucent and glistening with moisture. Both dishes were delectable. Our server Kristyn was super attentive and on top of all her tables despite being a packed house on a Saturday night. This is our second time here but only our first time for food but we will be back for sure! read more

A great restaurant situated on the square of the old main street in Canton. The walls, floors and lighting inside take you back to an era gone by. I was able to make a last minute reservation on open table and parking on side streets wasn't too difficult either. Plenty of fish specials like salmon, amberjack, red fish and more. We had calamari as an appetizer because our young son will eat it. It was good, light, crispy and the come back sauce was very good. The pomegranate martini was good. Great balance. Salad brought out was colorful and good with pickled beets too. I had the seafood risotto with butternut squash. It was very good. The fish was a bit too salty but that's a personal issue. The scallops and shrimp were wonderful as was the risotto. My husband had blackened amberjack with roasted fingerling potatoes and loved them. Although much more expensive than most area restaurants with prices between 12 to 32 per person it is a nice alternative to the chain restaurants. read more

Really amazing dinner for our anniversary last night. We made reservations and were seated immediately, the restaurant is beautiful and open. I really appreciated all the gluten free options clearly marked on the menu! I opted for the risotto with shrimp, it was so rich and creamy. Absolutely a joy to eat. Hubby got the steak with lobster and crab on top and it was so amazing melt in your mouth. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce surprised me how good it was. We've only dined here once and had great expectations since it was difficult getting reservations. However we were surprised by how average the food was. Our meal was cooked well but lacked imagination and flavor. Same goes for the decor, which did little to transform the dining experience. let me start by saying i showed up on a saturday at 5 15 pm. early dinner right? well i guess its early bird time at coastal as the place was packed at 5 15 which means one thing. a bunch of old people so now its packed at 5 15 and we are escorted to the wine cellar way in the back through the main dinidng area. never been back there as it used to be for parties you know the celler where they need to keep the temperature at 58 degrees to keep the bottles cool. we froze the entire time while its 40degrees outside and not much better inside. now onto the food. the fisilli salad well it was all lettuce with oil. a large heaping of fusilli with no ingredients just lettuce and a few chick peas at the bottom. on the fish.board is every type of fish except the one im looking for which is tuna. cobia sword salmon snapper covina redfish but no tuna. should have left then but it takes me 25 minutes to grt there so....entrees arrive and the fingerling potatoes are smashed and taste like a greasy mouthful. just oozing in grease and no taste or seasonings. ive included the photos. when it came out i was like wtf is this? my fish was good but the wifes came no coastal sauce which she ordered and i tried her fish ( which she didnt even eat) and it was just bland no taste. my son had fried shrimp. you get 6-8 for $25 and the fish dishes are now up to $35 each. i see some photos on yelp from a year ago and the fish dishes were averaging $28 so thats a 30% increase. son had shoestring fries i tried them and they were tasteless plus adter a few minutes they were cold becasue they are paper thin and difficult to grab and get in you your mouth. even son commented his shrimp were not as good as Frenchys which he had last week in Clearwater for $15 . onto my $175 bill and its just not worth that kind of money for subpar dishes. finally have lost a customer who has been going here for 10 years off an on. and we started coming here in 2014. wife says were not going back. forgot to mention the drinks are weak drinks so stick to beer or wine. . my son has had multiple bowel movements since getting home and photos of smashed fingerling mess attached read more

Wow, this place is amazing! My friends and I ended up going here for dinner Friday night, mainly because they had an opening on open table(not a lot of places in this area seem to use it) and my mom said she'd been here before.When we went to order drinks, we were going to order a bottle of wine but I was a little disappointed with the wine selection/price. I know they jack up the prices of wine in restaurants, but $45 for a bottle of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay that you can get for $15 in the store is ridiculous. I ended up ordering a bay breeze which was incorrectly made with grapefruit juice instead of pineapple juice(that's a sea breeze). I sent it back and when I did get the correct drink it was very good and strong. Despite this hiccup, the rest of the night was great. The cornbread muffins they gave us with some type of jalapeno honey butter were amazing. For appetizers we order the Oysters Rockefeller, mussels, and gator tail. The oysters Rockefeller were great. The gator tail was probably the best I've had and really flavorful. The mussels were good but didn't thrill me, the sauce wasn't anything special. For my entree, I shared the king crab risotto with my mom which was incredible, definitely the highlight of the night. It was a special though so probably not always available to order. For desserts, we had the brown sugar oreo cheesecake and the pumpkin roll. Again, both were fabulous, especially the cheesecake. Honestly, everything we had here was amazing. Simply amazing. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. The king crab risotto was out of this world. Unfortunately it was a special so you won't be able to order it all the time but that was my favorite. The gator tail was the best I ever had. The Oysters Rockefeller were delicious with lots of bacon. The mussels were good, although not the best I ever had. I thought the sauce was kind of bland. First time I didn't want to dip bread in it. The cornbread with honey butter that they gave us before or meal was delicious. Loved it. Our drinks were made to order and were very good. Desserts were a MAY zing! We had the pumpkin roll and the brown sugar oreo cheesecake. So freaking good. This is a great restaurant with a nice atmosphere. It is a little noisy but we were able to talk. Our group of 6 are regular customers of Goin' Coastal and always look forward to the evening. We had a 7:00 PM reservation last evening in the back room corner table, the seating we requested. Everything was going as expected until we placed our entree orders. After about 10 minutes our waiter returned to inform us that the 3 orders of Redfish were not going to be served because they were out of it! We each ordered our second choice and that kind of set the mood for the rest of the dinner. All of our orders were good, but not what we had wanted. About 15 minutes after our orders were delivered the table next too ours had a Redfish dinner delivered! We all looked at each other, but agreed to not say anything! After we finished and we're leaving the restaurant we ran into another couple we knew and stopped to talk for a few minutes. As we talked their orders were brought to their table and guess what, there was another order of Redfish. Were Redfish found laying on the floor in the kitchen?!?!? Their reservation was 1 hour after ours! So Goin Coastal Management who LIED to us about the availability of Redfish, the WAITER, the CHEF, or MANAGEMENT??????? This has certainly left a BAD TASTE in 6 regular customers mouths! We believe we are owed an explanation and a complete, complementary dinner for 6 by Goin Coastal! Was in Canton for work on Tuesday and stopped by Goin' Coastal for an early dinner. ATMOSPHERE Like many restaurants and shops downtown, the exterior of Goin' Coastal is rather unassuming, but the inside is pretty. The decor is modern and elegant: dark wood and exposed brick throughout, teal accent walls, and a beautiful bar area. The restaurant is fairly big, with the main dining room split into two halves- one side with tons of the tables, and the other with the bar, a couple booths, and a private dining room off the back. We were seated at a booth on the bar side. Since it was only 5:30 or so, it wasn't crowded yet and was fairly quiet. FOOD The restaurant specializes in sustainable seafood, serving up fresh oysters, crab, and a variety of fish that can be prepared just about any way you like (when we visited, they had salmon, mahi, red grouper, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and sheepshead). The fresh fish will run you about $25-$30. The dinner menu also consists of other seafood entrees (shrimp & grits, low country boil, lobster mac, scallop risotto, etc.) and non-seafood entrees (salads, steak, chicken). Sides are mostly southern-inspired (collard greens, hush puppies, grits, etc.). All entrees come with a salad to share. --FRIED SHRIMP (~$19): I wasn't super hungry, so I went with a slightly smaller entree. Fried shrimp is always good, and this was no exception. For my side, I chose the vegetable of the day, which was spinach and mushrooms. Soooo good, by far my favorite part of the meal. --LOW COUNTRY BOIL (~$21): Peel-and-eat shrimp, sausage, red potatoes, and an ear of corn. Boyfriend liked it, but said it was kind of difficult to eat. --HOUSE SALAD: Mixed greens with chickpeas and chopped veggies tossed in a light dressing. Perfect. SERVICE Our server was friendly and ready to answer any questions, and the other staff members we interacted with were pleasant as well. The food came out super fast (again, it hadn't gotten too busy yet, but still). Bottom Line: Great seafood place in downtown Canton. Food is a little pricey, but so fresh and flavorful.
