Had batteries in 7 watches replaced. No problems and easy, Quick, affordable and friendly service.

Called to inquire about resizing a ring, was quoted starts at $60 for 14k gold. I go in an I need to resize from a 6 to a 10. I get quoted $260 for the resizing. Ok-its a big size jump, fine. They call me the day its due for me to pick up and tell me the jeweler doesnt feel comfortable resizing with the stone in the ring (emerald). Ok. I understand, I appreciate airing on the side of safety. Until they tell me that it'll be an extra $200 to remove the stone and put it back. Totaling a whopping $460 to resize a 14k gold ring from a 6 to 10. I said no, thats almost what I paid for the ring and went and picked it up. Took it to Raffies Jewelery in Kensington and got it resized beautifully as needed for $180 plus tax. While im sure crowns work would have been stellar, charging over double what I could find elsewhere is more than I can swallow. read more

I am distraught about how I am being treated. I am an 85 year old Black woman who used to live in Silver Spring. At that time I frequented Gold Castle Jewelry Store. I dealt with Eddie the owner who was respectful and fair. I moved to North Bethesda for twenty five years and used the kind, respectful jewelers on the Pike. I recently moved back to Silver Spring to a senior community called Leisure World. I started back my visits to Gold Castle Jewelry Store I found a store jammed pack with not only jewelry but all types of merchandise to interest and make old people happy. To my dismay I found a tall man and a tall woman owners that were nasty and intimidating to a little old black woman. My last purchase there was a pair of a pretty hoop earrings of what iwas advertised as GOLD earrings. They were very light in weight but very pretty. However the closure was very weak and cheap looking. The salesperson took them in the back to have the manager tighten up the fastening hook. I should not have purchased them for $669.00 with those fragile locks. . However they were so pretty. After keeping them for a week and wearing them once I became frightened that I might lose them. I returned them to get my money back. They refused to let me exchamgr them. The tall woman in an intimidating manner told me that they could not be returned. I asked to speak to the owner. A very tall man came out and acknowledged me as knowing me as a customer from the past. He said that I could leave the earrings until his accountant verified that I had bought them there. They wanted to keep the earrings and my money. When you are elderly you must be careful when shopping at the Gold Castle. It is now in the hands of my Visa Credit card for over a month. The credit card company said this might go on for another month. VISA told me not to return the earrings until the case is closed. Gold Castle is saying that the earrings could not be returned. So my card company and Gold Castle is in a dispute. So the whole summer I have been without a resolution to this dispute. If you are old or old and black, take an advocate with you if you are planning on buying any pricey jewelry from this merchant. read more

With the cold weather starting my wedding and engagement rings were getting loose and I was afraid they would slip off my finger. We happened to be doing business in the Leisure World plaza when Richard remembered Gold Castle Jewelers. I started using Gold Castle many years ago when they were still in Wheaton, and I believe under different management. The new store advertises itself as carrying gifts, and indeed there are a lot more displays of costume jewelry and knick knacks than before. Keeping in mind COVID restrictions we stayed near the entrance while the staff checked out a previous customer. When it was my turn I explained I was looking for a very thin gold band to wear next to my other rings to keep them from slipping off. The woman waiting on us offered to put in ring guards but I explained when the weather got warm again I was worried the rings would then be too tight. She took me to a small display of plain bands and after trying one or two on we found the perfect one (I sound like Goldilocks!). We paid for our purchase and I made a mental note that they also replace watch batteries, mine all died right at the beginning of the quarantine period. Fortunately one hardly needs a watch these days, but that's a different story. read more

I went to have six watch batteries replaced. Though I was surprised at the prices quoted, ($10, $10, and $8), I realized that's inflation. I prioritized and chose to leave the three I wear most. When I returned I was told my fee was $35.00. The woman who originally quoted me the prices spoke up and said the charge should be $28.00. Apparently screws had to be removed to replace the battery in the least expensive watch, which I bought for under $30.00. So the $8.00 battery cost me $15.00. When I said, "I will not be returning", they didn't seem to care. I can't believe they are willing to loose a customer due to their mistake. I will NEVER go back to Gold Castle Jeweler. read more

I was on my way to another store for batteries for my Apple TV remote. Yet, when I saw 'Watch Repair & Battery Replacements' hanging in the window, I popped inside. As I approached the counter there were jovial & welcoming offering assistance. I inquired about the batteries & a man behind the glass popped his head out with a hello & a yes. As I proceeded to let him know which Apple TV I had, he said no worries &let me know which Apple TV remotes take batteries & which ones were rechargeable. Basically in a humorous I have an old system...thanks for nothing Tank, LOL! The quick & fun interaction with the staff made me me want to look around while my battery was being replaced, which took Tank all of a few seconds to replace & for only $8. You will find every type of trinket you can think of from jewelry both fine/statement pieces, garments/accessories, unique gift ideas galore, crystal paperweights/table pieces, stationary & so much more. This is not your average jewelry store, think more so of a General Store with everything that is not general. A phenomenal selection, price point equates to the item, as I saw $8K ring I would just love to place on my finger & a $10 reading glasses. & you get to enjoy the warm & welcoming customer interaction while happily spending your money. Wow...I know customer service as a Manager for over 20 years experience but WOW!! I called to get a quote on a clasp repair. The quote over the phone was anywhere from $20-$25. Ok...a bit pricey for alright. Mind you I have had this done before at a location in Wheaton for $15 flat. As I walk in the Asian women there looks at me like why are you here. I am dressed professional as I explain the reason for my visit. The As I approach the counter there is an Older Caucasian female there extremely pleasant to the customer before me. Emphasis on the customer before me. As I unravel the chain her whole demeanor changes like I am wasting her time. She obviously didn't want my business. She insinuated that my chain was cheap and that it would cost $35!! Completely, unpleasant experience. I work hard for my money and to receive service like I live in the 1950s is totally insane! read more

I've been coming to Gold Castle for years now, since way back when I was a teenager. As a watch nerd, they're the only place I trust when it comes to my watch batteries and sizing/removing links (evidently I have one of the smallest wrists on the East Coast and doing so isn't as easy as it sounds). I've had many watches over the years and they treat all watches equally with the same level of professionalism. With my rather expensive regular watch (that also happens to be a dive watch) they always double check because changing something or another messes with the diving calibration. I could care less about diving (unless I'm at a dive bar...badaching!) But it's great that they always ask just to be on the safe side. Given their location it also makes sense that they have an estate jewelry section. I've never bought anything but I've seen some really great pieces on occasion while I'm waiting for my watch. Overall, I'd give them five stars; however, the random collection of hoopla they have in the front of the store is just too much. It's overwhelming and kind of makes me itch whenever I'm in there. I try to make a quick dash for the watch counter to avoid the trinkets. Aside from that little bit they're fantastic! read more

I am thrilled with the prices and service for my watch repair! The staff was friendly and very helpful. I came in to get a few links removed from a new watch. I expected to drop the watch off and pick it up later but they were able to do it right then. I was in on a Saturday morning and there were 4 or 5 other customers in the shop. While I waited I checked out the very reasonably priced selection of costume jewelry. I will definitely come back later to treat myself to a few pieces! read more

I'm probably being generous with this 4-star rating - about 3.5 seems more appropriate but I went ahead and rounded up. I had a repair done recently which, while the work was done well, seemed definitely overpriced. It involved the soldering of one very small tin piece to another. I frankly expected to pay between $12-$15 and I think I could perhaps understand between $15-$20. But $25?? Come on. Moreover, the repair took 2 weeks to complete which I also thought was excessive. When I first took the item in, I was told they would get back to me with an "estimate" and that took a full week. Then at the end of the 2nd full week, having heard nothing, I called and was told it was ready and that they'd left me a voicemail. They hadn't. I'd given them my cell phone number and it would have shown up if they had even so much as called without leaving a message. I've been to this store 2-3 times before for watch batteries, etc. and thought the prices seemed a bit high, but this time it genuinely took me by surprise. The service there is generally friendly although 1-2 women have seemed a bit standoffish. The man who waited on me at the pick-up was very nice as was the woman with whom I spoke on the phone when I first called to inquire about this kind of repair. read more

I have seen this store for a while but had never gone in. There was another jewelry store that i had gone to for years that went out of business in Aspen Hill. I decided to stop in to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised. It is very nice and also has gift items. I have purchased a watch form them, had a battery replaced, bought a stained glass night light, and recently went in to have a ring sized. Was in the area and had some time to kill so I decided to do a battery watch replacement. The tall guy with the pony tail was very friendly and helpful. He replaced my battery within 10 mins and charged me $10. The store is very busy (design wise) inside and almost everything seems overpriced there but I would definitely come back for any watch repair or battery replacement.
