The door frame was no big deal (about 90 minutes' work), but they couldn't figure out to repair our wall using concrete, SO THEY JAMMED A PIECE OF 2x4 INTO THE WALL AND CAULKED THE EDGES. (see attached photo.) I emailed them to complain (no supervisor ever showed up to inspect the 'finished' job) and to request some kind of discount on their ridiculous price, and this is the response I received from their office manager: "I have discussed this with my management team, and after thorough internal review, we have determined that this price accurately reflects the scope of the services provided and resources that we bring to each project." Of course, the contract they make you sign is iron-clad and if we don't cough up the $1200.00 pretty soon they're going to sic all kinds of lawyers after us (at our expense, no less). So..... now you've all been warned. Once you've booked their services... you're on the hook for what THEY CONSIDER to be quality work, as you can see with your own eyes. (Note: We live in the NW suburbs of Chicago - not sure why this review says I live in San Francisco).

Since I told Huck at the outset that I wanted to save money where ever I could, he made recommendations and gave me options where ever he could. He sent numerous emails about products and materials which helped me finalize my plans. save money=sm. I agreed to remove the paneling=sm. He recommended wainscoting from floor half way up and new drywall the rest. Topnotch Results! I removed 90% of the tile=sm. He recommended waterproof laminate flooring. Very Happy! I installed new vanity, new faucet, 2 new lever door handles, and brushed polished all door hinges=sm. My next door neighbor had some drywall repair done and recommended Huck. Drywall is his specialty. He can show you many examples of his specialty as well as his painting and installation skills(new toilet and new medicine cabinet). You will be well pleased with his experience and attention to detail.

Some helpful hints based on our experience: 1. A big countertop dealer like MSI, located in Elk Grove Village, has a very large showroom where you can see the full countertop slabs. We had some preferences based on the web site pictures and the little quartz samples, but ended up selecting a different slab once we were in the showroom. You really want to see the full countertop slabs before your decision is finalized. 2. We were really disappointed with the Home Depot service, which is The Countertop Factory - Midwest. There was an extremely hard sell visit to our house and a take-it-or-leave it price. 3. Many quartz countertop installation services want you to select quartz they already have in stock. Davan let us shop around and we selected an MSI countetop, which MSI already had in stock. Our job therefore proceeded quickly from final slab selection to installation (less than two weeks). 4. I was unnecessarily nervous about our kitchen tile backsplash when our old formica countertops were replaced with new quartz countertops. We wanted to retain the old kitchen backsplash. That was not a problem and the installation occurred smoothly.

The finished piece's dimensions are only 11" x 24"-- so QUITE small in the grand scheme of things. Several vendors I had called previously informed me that they don't take on such niche projects. Custom Marble Design, however, were the first to respond and went above and beyond in their customer service, execution, and workmanship. As soon as they received my inquiry, they extended an invite to visit their location and shop thru available remnants. When I arrived, I was personally escorted around the premises and shown a variety of options (multiple stone types and color variations.) I had lots of questions-- all of which were answered thoroughly and kindly. Even though I arrived about 30 minutes before closing time (I received their invite while I was running errands & headed straight over), I never felt rushed or dismissed. My "little project" was treated with the utmost care & respect. This location also offered me a flat rate price for the project, so there were no hidden fees or complications regarding the stone I selected or my finishing parameters. I officially placed my order (stone selection and project specs) on Tuesday and was shocked to learn that it was ready for pick up that Friday. I just picked up the finished stonework today & could not be more pleased with the results! The order was completed to my exact specifications & finished with care. When I told them that I'd carry the piece to my car they insisted on taking it out for me. Everyone I encountered at this business (in person & via email) was exceptionally attentive, professional, and kind. (Special thanks to Bojan & Jovan and their fabulous fabricators!)
