A mixed review. $70k in ground pool and concrete installed in Gurnee. Initial installation was great. Pool was put in level and exactly to specifications. Concrete work looks great. Follow-up wasn't great. Pool went in at the end of fall. Workers through a tarp on a left dirt and rocks for the spring. I had to call several times for them to come open it, then they workers complained about how the pool was left. Eventually it got done but a sticky residue was left at the water line. They sent someone out to clean it but he gave up and said it would wear off. They are also some minor scratches I asked about but the office manager ignored my email. Also when using a chalk line to mark out the cover mounting holes in the concrete they used red chalk which is permanent. Blue chalk washes off. Now I have a faint red line around my pool. No one ever explained how to run or operate the system. I had to figure it out myself. Basically, good initial work but no follow-up. Once they get your money they are done. read more

I went in and bought a hot tub in cash from a young college kid back in July. I was told there was an electrician that would do the electrical and it would cost about $1000. I didn't know if that was right but I thought with the (Electrician) and tub package it would be an awesome way to go. Turns out the electrician had heart issues was overbooked and couldn't help me. My electrical is finally going in. The hot tub will be delivered tomorrow, ~two months late. I heard from Martha who is going to charge me the full delivery fee despite my poor customer experience. I hope she changes her mind. Otherwise, Martha will have lost a repeat customer and all my friends and relatives will hear this story. read more

Very mixed experience for me. Pros- The fence looks great and was installed in a good amount of time. Cons- They punctured a water line and said it was my fault. I did tell the guy we have a sprinkler system but it wasn't on the plat so no apologies given. They put the gate to the fence in a place where we cant get in from the side of the house. There is a dog run but wasn't supposed to be in a different spot. Called and emailed and have not gotten a response after a month. I even made it easy and said they could turn smaller section into a gate. Not replace anything just fix it. No response. read more

Ok this place may or may not technically be Wisconsin. The address reads as WI, but GPS says IL. Whatever, I got here. It's a tiny little place that specializes in pools, spas and fences. My friend got her fencing materials there. Home Depot it ain't, but they seem to have a good variety in fence materials, a better quality (the nails in their fencing are galvanized so they don't rust), and cheaper than the other giant hardware stores. She was happy with their services, though she did not have them do the actual installation. I will definitely come here for future fencing projects. read more

Meier's built our salt water pool and installed an aluminum fence for us 5 years ago. Since then, we have had them do any service necessary, and have been nothing but pleased with the quality of work, high level of personal attention and handling of any warranty issues. This is a family business, and we've gotten to know the family, as well as regular employees, Dave and John, who have been there as long as we've been doing business with Meier's. I feel they've been extremely helpful and extremely fair with us throughout the years. We priced pools and spoke to several other pool builders when we initiated the pool decision process. Meier's price was in line with the other bids. What they offered that others didn't was pages and pages of past and current references we could call to discuss their experience and even arrange to stop by to see the finished project. Other pool builders offered maybe 3 references, at most. If we moved and wanted to build another pool, we would definitely call Meier's Outdoor World. Our 5 year experience with Meier's has been very positive. We also were thrilled with their concrete contractor who installed beautiful, paver style decorative concrete around the pool. Very low maintenance compared with actual pavers and much more attractive than plain concrete. We were underwhelmed with the landscape contractor they were using at the time. (Apple in Wauconda) You can check their Yelp and Angie's List ratings, and you can always use a landscaper you choose instead. read more

They built our pool 25 years ago. Not a great experience. Did not meet dates that were promised but that is not why I am writing this review. We just had a side wall that basically collapsed. I get that there will be repairs that need to be made since the pool is as old as it is but shocked by this kind of structural damage. We were not looking for them to do anything for free but they said they wanted nothing to do with fixing the problem. Very disappointed. I recently called to get a quote and lead time to install a commercial fence. The man I spoke to was very honest, unlike so many other fence contractors I've called, he let me know approximate lead time on a quote and start of work. Since I needed the fence done in a very short amount of time, I decided to keep asking around (and have found nothing as of yet). With the above said, his being honest and straightforward means that I'm keeping this company in mind for when I need a residential fence. I really wish other companies would figure this out: contractor honesty usually means repeat business / people coming back for business. This is my review/warning of a Pool and Fencing Service located in Mchenry IL. Do Not, under any circumstances, Use Meier's Outdoor World, Inc Fence and Pool Company Located in Fox Lake IL. They are at best totally incompetent, not truthful, and lack any customer service abilities. They were suppose to open our pool a month ago; after one delay after another someone shows up. I was told our pump did not work, they could replace it however it would be a week before they could come back. I the meantime they did nothing to treat the water. Person shows up to replace the pump Oh we need to replace the wires to the pump however I do not have any with me (excuse me, you didn't check that last week when you removed the pump) and I won't be able to come back for a week or so as I have other customers. Hell no! We have wire, wait and i will get it. Service guy gets upset starts telling me how all he wants to do is retire, he hates doing this and hates the company. I notice the new pump has a dent, he says he can take it back however it would be august before he would return. I call the office, Manager says "What do you want me to do about it, we have other customers to deal with" The list of complaints and lack of service goes on and on. Then we find four major leaks do the "service" mans pulling out parts that should not have been removed. To add to this the fence side of the company is just as bad. They put up a fence for us, which is now falling over do to poor construction. They will not stand by their product and I was told that our $5,000 job was really to small for them. BUYER BEWARE! Been a long time customer & had our in ground pool installed 12 years ago with them. Was very happy with our install. Now 12 years later trying to order a new liner many mixed quotes. Their quote went up $400 in just 2 weeks. They won't reduce the down payment as requested. Reason being we requested to pay less down is because the first liner company we used through them went out of business and no longer warranties our existing liner. Meiers does not care or stand behind the warranty. So we succumbed to that years ago. Now willing to order a brand new liner they're still playing games. After purchasing products, referring them to anyone who asks & had our pool opened & closed with them for years. They can't hold to a quote or reduce the amount down. Even though we stated we'd pay for it once the physical liner came in. Very very disappointed with them! read more

We have a lot of pool places that come and go in the area, and Meier's has been around forever. I recently found out why. I needed a liner for my inground pool. I called 5-10 places and went with Meier's because they seemed to know the most and were the best to deal with (answered their phone, emailed with me...). They eventually took a deposit (but didn't seem in a hurry to get my money) and I paid the balance a couple weeks after it was done and I said that I was happy. This sure seems like they're a successful, well run company that puts customers first. The liner is in, looks perfect and I'm thrilled. I plan to use them for Any pool service and equipment I need in the future even though I live in the next county and there are plenty of other pool places that are closer. read more

Recently had an aluminum fence put in by Meier's. The fence is beautiful and the workers were diligent and clean. I am very happy with the results and the pricing. So why the 4 stars then? The contract stated the lead time was 4-5 weeks and on the 6th week I called in a Wednesday. I was informed that my fencing came in in that Monday. I asked, "Why was there not a phone call made to say it was in?" They replied, "We want to check the order first before we call to set up an installation appointment." Understandable, but I could of received a call updating me that the fencing had not arrived at the end of 5 weeks. I could of received a call that the fencing is in but we are going to inspect it then call to setup an installation appointment. All I ask from any contractor is to just keep me in the loop, especially if I give them a deposit of thousands of dollars. read more

As a local building inspector, I knew that for the quality of work, Meier's was the only place for a fence for my property. The estimator/sales representative did more talking than listening. On the final estimate, removal of the existing fence was omitted. The overall cost was exactly what I expected, given the type of fences and lengths. Several weeks passed from the initial deposit before I felt the need to contact them to see when the install would occure (weather was a real big factor and no fault of theirs). The install was scheduled on a Friday and would wrap up on Saturday. Work was started on that Friday as planned. Leaving the rear portion and gate to be completed on Saturday. Saturday was a full morning of rain, and rightfully no work was conducted. Monday evening I returned to the fence in the same condition as Friday. Contacting the sales representative I'm told I would hear from him shortly. No contact that evening. Tuesday morning I call the representative multiple times, without any results. The third attempt gets a response of "They called your wife". Not until Tuesday evening did we get a call stating they would be there on Wednesday morning (There was a tragedy in our hometown that created an anomaly no one could predict). I trust that once completed, I hope to have all my expectations met. Until then, my experience has been sub-par. read more

Probably the worst customer service experince I've had in a long, long...long time. (Over)paid $360 to have my pool opened (which consists of reconnecting hoses, cleaning debris off cover, removing and preparing cover for storage, checking heater and adding shock). Pump went out and opening could not occur. I had pump replaced (by a different company through home warranty). I called Meier and informed them I did not need them to finish the opening services (which at this point consisted of adding shock and checking heater) and I asked if I could recieve an in store credit ($360 seemed like an exhorbitant amount to reconnect hoses and package a pool cover). I was awarded an in store credit of $11.85. I asked what the hourly rate was (because $11.85 didn't seem right when I did the math) and I was informed they charge $150 per hour labor rate! I'm in the wrong business I guess! I came into their store to recieve my $11.85 credit, and was greeted by three (barely) teenage employees, who were milling about the showroom. They all saw me enter the store, but not one of them approached me to offer me service. When I finally got the attention of one, he need to call someone (I'm presuming a superior) and was unable to offer answers to any of the questions I had. Another customer entered the store and the employee who was helping me put my issue on hold, and spent the next 20 minutes with the new customer. Niether of the other employees stepped in to help. I was given the $11.85 credit, which in turn I used to purchase $100 worth of product. Not once was an adult seen on location. Not once was an appology issued for the errors that had occured, and not once was I thanked for using their business. All I had wanted was to be treated fairly, and I don't feel I was. Luckily for me, there is another pool service (Leisure Pools and Spas) located equadistant to me in Burlington, WI. I will recommend them to anyone thinking about using Meier. That's where I'll be taking my business as well. read more

I rarely write reviews but I have to say that our family never thought we could get a pool. We had the worst experience with a few pool companies including Ardvidson locally. Steve Meier has made our family's dream come true. The pool is not finished yet of no fault of thiers just bad weather. It is 80% done and I could not be more impressed with EVERYTHING so far. We were new to this experience and they walked us through the entire process making sure that everything was explained well and there were no questions. Besides doing exactly what they said that they would do, this is a family owned business with top notch, polite, professional staff that aptly represent the high standards of Meier's from beginning to end. Most importantly, the owner personally called me along with many others periodically during the installation to assure us that we were kept abreast of any and all issues, timelines and due dates along the way. That level of communication meant the world to us as they did not just take the check and run.
