The dumplings were good, but honestly, the sauce was the star of the show. It was so flavorful and really brought everything together. I also liked the color-coded system they use to show which filling is which. It made the ordering process easy and helpful. This place is definitely great for takeout. You can call in your order or order in store, and the wait was not long. There is not a lot of seating, and I would not describe it as intimate, but it does have a homey feel. The owner came out, spoke to us, and served us, which made the experience feel personal. This is a pretty good takeout restaurant, especially for those on a gluten-free diet. The owner is very friendly and the orders are always accurate. The chicken and corn dumplings are the best, but the beef and cabbage dumplings are also very munchable. Other good things to chomp down are their deep-fried eggplant chunks, which is unhelpfully listed as "eggplant box" on their online takeout menu. I ordered it not knowing what kind of eggplant dish I'd get. Happily, the box contained something tasty and eggplant-y when I opened it. Their noodle dishes are simple but good. The lo mein chicken noodles I ordered had a good texture and flavor. Being gluten-free didn't take away from the taste at all. In fact, I couldn't really tell the difference. I am so excited to have found the Gold Dumpling! It has a whole gluten free menu plus a gluten menu but they have a dedicated gluten free cooking area. My friend has celiac and I have been gluten free for years cause of personal reasons and found great food here. My favorites were the pork bun so tender and delicious and the chicken corn dumpling. The dumpling was full of great flavors. We tried their fried onion rings and didn't leave one! We had their eggplant which I enjoyed tremendously. It has a crunchy outside with creamy inside which I loved. We had the pork dumplings which we thoroughly enjoyed. I have to go back and get more chicken and pork buns my number one favorite and I really want to try their gluten free lo mein. William works the register and the tables and was a delight and really knows the food. He and his uncle the chef, run the place. Good and fresh dumplings Missus loves her dumplings, and we heard through the socials that a new dumpling shop opened up on the outskirts of blue back square. So we made the trek to find this shop. The plaza this place is in was doing some construction, so I had to go by the flag outside to find them. Inside is a little basic but clean. The cashier was very nice and helpful. Explained the coloring system and the order. Got my food to go, picked up some sweets at the local sweets shop next door. Took pics and tried some bites. The dumplings were made fresh, perfectly thin and cooked well. Ample amounts of filling and sweet and spicy dipping sauces. They offer very fancy dumplings like foie gras or truffles with morelles. I opted for chicken and corn along with some beef bao. Everything was pretty tasty and pretty reasonably priced. For the two orders of dumplings and the bao came out to 24 bucks. Pretty affordable and pretty good bites. It's not a pretty location, but they do good dumplings to go. Worth a try if your off the beaten path and have a hankerin for done good dumplings. read more

I had a great first takeout experience from Gold Dumpling yesterday! While there are a few tables inside to eat, it is definitely small and fairly plain, so I would say it is better suited for takeout. The food was quite impressive. I tried the pan fried vegetarian dumplings and the veggie lo mein featuring their handmade noodles. I am extremely critical of dumplings, typically finding the fillings bland and mushy, and I'm almost always disappointed. These were so yummy, with a chunky flavorful filling of vegetables and even some starchy noodle. The wrappers were fresh, and a terrific balance of tender but still firm enough. I enjoyed the sauce that came with them (the spicy version) and appreciated the thicker consistency as opposed to what is more common. The lo mein was also excellent, but that is much more my usual speed, meaning I prefer the dish but also have higher hopes for it. There were plenty of fresh vegetables neither to crunchy or overdone, and the handmade noodles shined. The texture was prefect. Both dishes are often quite oily or greasy, and these were beautifully prepared and far from it. Although I did not try them, a family member had the pan fried chicken & corn dumplings and thought they were all excellent. They have an extensive gluten free menu that I look forward to trying in the future, and only use natural colors for their colorful dumplings (beet/carrot juice, etc...) The staff was friendly when I picked up my order too! I look forward to ordering takeout from them again. I would say that they outshine most of my other local options! read more

After trying their Groton location, we tried the West Hartford location! We tried the pork and cabbage dumplings and they were fantastic but we enjoy the chicken and corn better. We also tried the gluten free noodles which were thick and more like a lo mein than we've had in years! Extremely excited to see almost their whole menu can be gluten free and can't wait to go back. Part 2: we did go back already and got the chicken and corn dumplings, the orange chicken (more honey than orange) and their salt and pepper fries. A new restaurant recently opened on Park Avenue, which we discovered through Weha.com, and we were eager to try it out. We stopped in after some college shopping, and their big claim is that they offer gluten-free dumplings. While I don't follow a gluten-free diet, they have separate menus for those who do. The staff was very friendly and eager to help, and although "english" wasn't a specialty, they provided us with a handheld device to input our orders, which was very cool. Everything we tried was very fresh. The handmade egg roll was delicious, and we also ordered their homemade noodles with vegetables, which were a hit at our table. The pork fried rice was wonderful as well. The biggest surprise was the chicken and corn dish; it didn't taste like chicken at all, and I didn't initially notice the corn. This was my favorite, and I ended up eating most of it. We also ordered the BBQ ribs, which were good, but we were too full to finish them. Very happy I finally craved Chinese food so I can visit Gold Dumpling in WEHA, right on Park Rd. Such a wonderful addition to have! Now I can have Gluten free Bao!! Whoohoo!! They have a regular menu and then the GF menu . Same options. It's very simple. 4 tables , many people order to go because it's very small in the restaurant. Service is great! Friendly, helpful. Everyone is very nice. Prices I thought were great. The food I was extremely happy with. Everything had flavor, good portions. I can't complain. The fried chicken wings were GF. Very crisp, pretty big too. You are served in paper plates if you eat in so it's very casual ! Looks like I found my go to place for gluten free Chinese! So we finally got to try Gold Dumpling in WeHa!! My husband is gluten free, he was excited to try this place. He got to speak with the owner, everyone was very nice. There are a few tables so you can eat there. We got take out. He got deep fried dumplings and wings gluten free. I got non gf veggie lo mein and pork bao buns. We enjoyed everything. Amazing! We dropped by for lunch on the soft opening (August 11th). We were so excited for Gold Dumpling to come to West Hartford. They have so many gluten free options, and everything is cooked in separate fryers/pans/griddles, etc. We tried the gluten free chicken dumplings, pork dumplings, and noodles. I love the dumplings. Definitely the best gluten free ones I've ever had. And the noodles were amazing. They have a very large gluten free menu, and the prices are great. The service is super friendly too. Today we had lunch at Gold Dumpling! The bao was the best I ever had and we really enjoyed trying the different dumplings (beef, pork, chicken, veg). The owners so nice and came to the table to help us with the menu. We also ordered a sesame chicken to split. There are 4 tables seating inside if you eat in the restaurant. We stopped in and had a conversation with one of the owners and we're de That they're able to accommodate all sorts of allergies. The short version is we ordered for two and have enough for another whole meal. The food was delicious and exactly as ordered, the people who waited on us were extremely polite and helpful with our allergy requests. Very nice people. Been there twice now. Obviously, gluten free is a big attraction for those who cannot eat gluten. The food is significantly better and less greasy than the run of the mill American Chinese restaurants like Black Bamboo, which I find almost inedible. It did not seem like there was MSG in the food, or if there was it was not enough to set off my MSG reaction (swollen neck, headache, etc.) Very little protein the the noodle dishes., and the food has a lot of sugar and salt. The restaurant is understaffed and I had to wait more than half an hour beyond the pickup time the website specified. A lot of people standing around waiting for their take out orders. Give it a try and see what you think! 3 1/2 stars, but we can't give half stats. I'll wait a while before trying again. read more
