Parking was a breeze as my friend and I pulled up to the strip mall in Avon. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by possibly the owner and seated in a very cozy booth. Our waitress came right over with ice cold water and filled our glasses. We were offered cocktails but passed. My friend ordered the three different sushi platter for $17, and I ordered chicken in a garlic sauce with white rice for $13 I also ordered the Kani salad for us to split before lunch. The kani salad arrived, as a generous portion for nine dollars. Kani salad is a combination of crab meat and fresh vegetables mixed together. This was absolutely delicious, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Our dinners arrived perfectly timed. My friends, three different types of sushi were Philadelphia roll, sweet potato roll, and a spicy tuna roll. All three looked delicious. My chicken with garlic sauce was generously portioned, accompanied by white rice, in a lovely bowl This dish was lovingly cooked, with an amazing presentation. This was a wonderful choice for lunch. We both were too full for dessert and had to pass. The total was $40 and change for lunch, and I left a $10 tip. For $50 this was the deal of deals for lunch in Avon. The restrooms were clean Also, I noticed a very busy takeout. It was hopping! The lounge looked about 1/4 full with people enjoying lunch. Had high hopes after so many people recommended this restaurant as some of the best Asian food in the area. Came here for dinner and already were a bit put off by the prices; $5 for a single piece of sushi, sushi dinners are hovering around the $30-$100 price range. Since they had both Japanese fare and other Asian cuisine (Thai/Chinese), we were already a but wary, as the "Jack of all trades master of none" seems to always apply to these Asian fusion restaurants. The food was just... forgettable. Tiny sushi rolls, which honestly I've never eaten any roll so small. The width was about a hot dog for one roll that wasn't on the special sushi roll menu, and the other was quite expensive and forgettable. Then we got our Thai food and... I have never eaten Pad Thai that was this off. The sauce was runny at the bottom of the plate (there should be no freestanding sauce in most Thai dishes), and the flavor was literally ketchup + tamarind. The ketchup threw the flavor so off, at first I couldn't identify what I was eating. I nearly sent it back but my wife convinced me to swap dishes with her, so I tried her basil fried rice and it was flavorless. Kani salad appetizer was nice but nothing special. I think if I'm going to try and be positive about the experience overall, at best I can say is that the meal will be forgotten in a week. Seating were booths, but the seating was oddly tight. Felt like we were crammed into a booth without a lot of room to be comfortable. My son commented that the table seemed unusually small for a restaurant. I would normally give the place three stars, but because it was so expensive, I just can't. $140 for four people should be a nice, memorable meal. read more

Liki was a delightful find based on Yelp reviews. We often try to expand our search to find great sushi outside of our immediate area because frankly it's hard to come by. So we took the drive on over to Liki with a curious mind. What is going to be lively? Was it an inconspicuous place? Was the sushi and food going to be as tasty as it looked? The answer to all those questions was yes yes and yes! We rolled into the restaurant, which is part of a mini mall on the main highway in Avon, and it was lively, but not overwhelming, we were able to sit right away in a pretty big size booth made for six, but there was just two of us. We proceeded to order a variety of bites, including some mushroom and Miso soup, some spring rolls and lamb chops along with a variety of sushi, we've never had before. I was initially scratching my head because the lamb chops did not come with any Glaze or sauce, but they were grilled to perfection and very tender. Would've love to see some sort of glaze but still very tasty. All the other small bites were amazing as well. The sushi was super fresh and we loved the look of the sandwich style roll, as always, we usually order one roll too many, and took it home the next day, not nearly as fresh as we had hoped, even though the color of all ingredients remained intact, but this is usually the story of second day sushi anyway. We are visiting town and this is our 2nd visit to this restaurant. Our friends who are locals brought us here the first time and we ordered mostly sushi. Aside from having creative sushi offerings, the ingredients taste fresh and have the perfect amount of rice to sushi ratio (I dislike huge sushi rolls with lots of rice). Unfortunately, I don't have photos from our first visit because I was not expecting our meal to be review-worthy. So for our second visit, I made sure to take some photos of what my husband and I had-- Singapore noodle, Liki King roll and yu xiang eggplant (a tad on the sweet side but had a balanced taste without the greasiness). We entered Liki and we're seated right away the booths are draped above with cloth so you have the feeling of being in your own little tent giving each group privacy. Colored lights and a clean sushi bar area made for a comfortable atmosphere. Our waitress was the best! I can't remember her name but she joked with us and made sure we had everything we needed. I was pleased with all components of my meal seaweed salad, sunset blvd sushi, and miso soup. The miso had a deeper flavor and richer broth which I appreciated. My husband had the orange beef which he enjoyed, but didn't love. I had a bite and a thought it was great. We had a great experience. Loved the sushi jury is still out on the other items. I am in love with this restaurant! Not only is it lovely and comfortable to dine within but, because I have a short lunch hour, I have been ordering their two roll luncheon. The portion is just enough for a healthy lunch with miso soup, salad and the nicely packaged rolls.
