Found this place doing a Yelp! search for BBQ when leaving Six Flags Fiesta Texas -- ended up a a wing place instead and I'm glad that we did! This is a *great* from-scratch wings/chicken restaurant. The menu: Apps, wings, tenders, a variety of chicken sandwiches with influences from many cuisines, salads, chicken and waffles, and all the sides you'd expect. There were open tables when we got there, but we were told that there'd be a 15-minute wait. The hostess explained that they were a little short-staffed and that everything was made from scratch and she emphatically let us know that it was "worth the wait". I loved the engagement by the hostess despite clearly being busy and it was in deed worth the wait. I got the Good Morning America (loved it!) which is a fried chicken sandwich on texas toast, with american cheese, candied bacon, a hash brown, a fried egg, and syrup. I subbed out the syrup for Comeback sauce. My boys eat got 16 piece boneless wings which you can get with 2 different sauces. Between the 2, they got the Sasquatch BBQ (medium), hot, and midnight cowboy (hottest on the menu). 16 boneless wings is A LOT -- 32 total between them! Both boys loved the wings but they both flirted with the hot end of the scale, so some wings left with us in to go boxes. The waitress was particularly engaging which really adds to the experience especially when so many places and/or individuals don't get customer service these days. Found Gold Feather on a whim when I was finding places to eat on Yelp after landing at the airport. It was a good decision, and I wish we got to come here again before leaving. When you check in on yelp, you're given a complimentary appetizer of fried pickles. I love that their fried pickles are full length ones rather than chips. A LOT of flavor and juiciness. Something you should do when coming here, CHECK IN ON YELP! :) The staff members are so friendly, and knew we were visiting San Antonio for the week. They had a lot of good recommendations on what to order along with other great restaurants to eat at. Right off the bat, Laydee was welcoming and offered great suggestions on ordering. We had the lemon pepper and sasquatch bbq on a 20 piece, churro waffles and chicken with tabasco honey, sweet potatoes and veggies, cauliflower and fried pickles. All of them were soooooo good! I'm glad we checked this place out even though I wasn't a huge fan of it personally. The staff was friendly, place was clean, really nothing wrong with our dining experience except the food wasn't really that great to MY taste pallet. We also had an issue where I got charged for my sauces even though it said for the 6 chicken tenders you could pick two. The breading they use was confusing to me because it looks seasoned, you can clearly see seasoning, but I couldn't really taste much of anything besides just 'pickle' or just 'chicken' not even salt. I also didn't like they were so watery that majority of the breading would fall off in clumps. My opinion was the same for their sauces as well- very watery. The ranch especially went everywhere and didn't really get soaked up by the pickles or the tenders. I also was NOT a fan of their hot sauce. It had the weirdest taste. Other than that, my mom really enjoyed her sandwich. She said it was nice and flavorful but not as spicy as she would have liked. She really loved the sweet potato fries with the marshmallow sauce though. My husband also really enjoyed his chicken and waffles. He said the waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. He loved the Apple Jacks special because it brought him back to his childhood. After finally coming over and trying it, it was great but not the best. The appetizer was awesome which was the return of the mack, super cheesy and great Buffalo. Pulled up kind of late to Gold Feather and we were told the kitchen was closing up so food was not on the table-not too much of a bother since our meet up was an after hours one and we had already eaten. I looked at their selection of beers and the bartender ran down some based on what notes I wanted-one of them being Mango Cart which is: 1) a beer from the LA where I was visiting from and 2) meh. Fortunately, they did have one or two other beers that fit what I wanted, but first I started with a Karbach Kolsch thinking I didn't have it before; I did and also it was ok. What I ended up trying was a local Gose (Chamoy Cowboy) with a Taijin rim, and got educated on what Chamoy vs. Taijin. While the beer itself was okay the added garnish did make it stick out. The loaded tots, are not that eye appealing. I should mention that, I am not into hot cheetos. While the loaded tots were not impressive to look at it, the entire table had no second thoughts to eat the tots. Lol. On to the wings...wings in general are nice, chunky size, no skimpy chicken here. The lemon pepper was spot on, fresh and perfected tang. The Sasquach Wing, was a subtle but hell of a wing. The right amount of ay pica. Lol you don't know it until you eat something else. This was pretty good. The chicken jerky sandwich was just a sandwich nothing to brag about. French fries, hot, fresh, salted perfectly were scrumptious. My personal favorite is when I am able to eat French fries with mustard. Oh this restaurant does not have mustard. Disappointed. This restaurant is very family friendly, and there is out door seating. Although it's been too hot for sitting out doors, that is an option. Everything is always super good there, it's a craft kitchen and you can taste the quality in everything you order. Love that they have a wide variety of craft beers. I usually get the chicken tenders or wings in the pineapple chipotle sauce and in the honey barbecue sauce. The tenders are always super thick and juicy, and those are my two favorite sauce flavors out of all of them. I recently just got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, it was good but I think next time I'm going to ask them for more Nashville hot sauce on the chicken itself. Like make it wet lol But the bread, the coleslaw and the aïoli they use is really good. Their fries and a sweet potato fries are good, I always end up getting the sweet potato fries with the marshmallow sauce. We found this place on Yelp and saw how food can take a while because it's fresh, great, love fresh food! We tried to put in an online order, but they charge extra fees to do that. So then we tried to call it in. Unless you are buying 1 meal for multiple people you have to order everything separately which is quite expensive. You even have to pay extra for ranch with Buffalo wings. Then we were told we had to prepay for phone orders. I'm not giving out my credit card info over the phone when I have no idea what kind of security measures are in place, but I'm not paying a fee to put in an order online either. I tried 3 different sauces and none of them were amazing just mediocre.. Sasquach BBQ (Hot and BBQ) was not good the pickled onion ruined it, & my favorite was Honey Badger (Mango Habanero) wasn't spicy at all. They have good ranch but it's extra, i thought it was complementary with the chicken, but that's whatever. Regular waffle was flavorless & the churro waffle was lacking churro, only 1 of the 4 pieces had cinnamon on it. The Bun Mi has a Sriracha aioli and the Fried Chicken comes with garlic aioli. They came out smoking hot, but we couldn't wait to dig in. Get the sweet potato waffle fries.
