Cheesy Jane, chicken tenders, 1/3 pounder on a gluten free bun
    Samantha B.

A Broadway staple, I am quite embarrassed to say I hadn't found myself here before. But when my niece declared "chicken and fries!!" for lunch as we strolled out of the nearby DoSeum, this seemed the obvious choice. Parking is unusual with a tiny lot onsite and a dedicated lot just across the street, so if you drive a big car be prepared to do some maneuvering. Just as well, as soon as you walk through the door you are transported back to a classic 50/60's burger joint! Just enough decorations to set the tone, but not so many that it's too busy. We were sat immediately but the lunch rush slowed the servers down quite a bit, fine for us but if you are trying to get in and out during and office lunch you might want to factor in some extra time. When the food did come out we were pleasantly surprised! Their signature dish, the Cheesy Jane was delicious!! Just the right meat, cheese, bun, and condiments ratio for me (a feat that not many joints accomplish). The fries are my favorite style as well, perfectly fluffy and crispy all at once. Surprisingly, they offer a gluten free bun! It is quite small so it goes best with the 1/3 pounder so you can't be too hungry, but the option is a nice touch to accommodate special diets. They are of course kid friendly and offer high chairs (although be prepared to clean it as they are visibly piled high with years of...gunk) as well as a coloring page. The only downside is it was a bit too expensive for what it is, $60 for two adults and a toddler is pushing it. However, a solid option when you are looking for a classic, yummy lunch.

The sides stole the show tonight with a large order of onion rings that were a different fry texture than the ordinary ones and served with fresh ranch. The fries and tots were both hot, seasoned well, and delicious. Bacon cheeseburger was eh. Love that they use hormone free but sad that it didn't taste any different than a fast food burger and actually a lot dryer. I had to slurp my straw pretty loudly to catch the attention of the serving staff to get my water refilled and husbands drink, and we were almost done with our meal.

The burger is humongous, the onion rings are really good but my favorite was the shake 10 out of 10 flavor. The shake was delicious. Honestly, the best shake I've had in many years. I would say, though, that the burger choice I got out of recommendation was a little bit more on the barbecue side, which I'm not really a big barbecue person, especially on a burger, but I could tell if I go back and try other things. It would be a great experience. Don't give me wrong. I love the burger just not a big BBQ on a burger person!

This is the BEST cheeseburger I've had in San Antonio. They have all kinds of specialty burgers, but I just went for a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with everything on it cooked medium well. 10/10! No notes. The Patty is a smash Patty with crispy edges and so juicy! We got tater tots; super crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The fries had a mild seasoning and also very good. The only reason I'm giving a four star review is because service was super slow. We had to get up from the table to pay the bill and ask for our to go boxes. It's worth it for the food though! The milkshakes looked amazing but we were too full.

I wanted so badly to love this place. It's super cute and I love old school diners... But I just can't. The highlight of the meal was the bacon on my burger. That was the best thing. The milk shake was also very good. But everything fried was basically tasteless...maybe a bit of salt/pepper...but then cardboardy like they haven't replaced the oil. Even the fried pickles had no taste... And honestly for them to say they use grass fed organic beef...the meat on the burger was overcooked or otherwise tasteless. And our server was having a tough day...didn't being mayo until I went up to ask again and then had no idea you pay at the front until we sat there for awhile waiting for the check or her. Super cool place, really wanted to like it...just couldn't.

Server was nice did a good job. The inside is old school diner which was cool. Music was 50s I'm guessing so was cool! The bean and cheese nachos were fine the cheese is the type that sticks together so not my personal favorite but good 3.8 out of 5. The chalupa was your traditional chalupa 3.8 out of 5. The burger was a solid burger 4 out of 5. The banana shake was a winner not overly sweet and homemade taste 5 out of 5!

My family and I love going to Cheesy Jane's! It's a cute local diner with quick service and friendly staff. If I had to recommend anything, the milkshakes are very yummy. I usually go for the Oreo milkshake, but there's a list of milkshakes that look like they would all taste great. I enjoy the Boca burger with fries every time we come, which is nice since I'm a vegetarian, and my husband can enjoy a regular burger. We got the homemade fried peppers the last time we went in those were also very good. I recommend dipping them with ranch.

50's style diner vibe focusing on burgers and milk shakes. I tried the slider sampler to try 3 different flavors and all were excellent. Tasted like a fresh homemade burger. My friend tried the special, chilaquiles burger and it was massive. A very creative burger for SA! The service was straight forward getting our order and food out to us quickly.

This place is super quaint and very much reminds me of a burger place. Waitress was super sweet and kind. The food was super delicious and filling. I actually split the burger with my husband and it was perfect. The table shared the chips and salsa. I loved it. A roasted salsa. My husband didn't care for it.

We stopped for lunch & ended up splitting a burger to eat. It was a big portion but the flavor and options to customize made it super delicious! The tater tots are the side to try! The service was great, our waitress was super sweet & checked in on us to make sure we had what we needed to have a quick lunch. I'll go back, I like the diner quick style.

I was highly impressed with the burgers here at Cheesy Jane's. I ordered the Jammin Jane and my wife ordered the Southwest burger. My Jammin Jane was incredible. The beef they use is so good... it tasted fresh and full of flavor. I also ordered a peanut butter and chocolate shake with my mean and finished the whole thing. It was rich, thick and I couldnt get enough. I will definitely be coming back and will bring some friends along with me. This place deserves all the love. Not to mention the staff is very kind and will suggest items on their menu based on your favorite toppings. Overall, BANGER experience! Much love, J. Wall

Popped in for lunch. Arrived around 1115 on a Tuesday and was pretty empty. We ordered an Oreo milkshake, a Wurst burger and a Jamming Jane. Oreo milkshake came out first and the food not long after. Milkshake was spot on! Was heavy on the whipped cream. Burgers were large, so much that we barely ate half before being full. They did not skimp on the toppings either. Besides being cooked well done (my fault as I didnt order it medium), they were good. The style feels very old school, like your in the 60s. Good to pop in for lunch and suprised it was not busy at all!

We visited Cheesy Jane's after seeing a review on an SA Facebook page. The burgers were well-done, slightly on the salty side, but still enjoyable. The French fries were homemade and crispy on the outside, which we really liked. The onion rings had good flavor, though the texture was a bit thick and doughy. The service was impeccable!

FIRST TIME VISIT!…read more Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! But I recommend the staff tries harder to make customers feel welcomed and comfortable. The next visit will be telling.

Yeah, okay, it's convenient, but by the time you pay to park (minimum of four hours, which pissed me off) and then have your tiny, overpriced burger...you gonna be mad. Do yourself a favor and fight for street parking. I walked up to the outside counter Saturday night about 7:20. Never been here. The ladies behind the counter obviously could NOT have cared less. No nice welcome...no pleasantries. Nothing said. I spoke first, asking about seating availability inside (it was chilly), and they were rude - looked at me like I was from outer space and said they didn't know. They said they didn't know in that "yeah, good luck with that...it's Saturday at 7, dumbass" kinda way. How could you not know? And if you truly didn't know, which one of them should have gone to check for me. So I went and checked myself. Turns out: plenty of seating. Returned to the chilly duo and placed my order. Ordered the Wake and Bacon burger. I also ordered a Topo Chico, which was also met with a blank "are you from this planet?" stare. How do you not have Topo Chico or something similar !? The burger was just okay. Tiny, but tasty. Fries were so salty and over-seasoned as to be almost inedible. No one checked on me after bringing me my burger. Not one time. The only reason I gave the third star: neat, dog friendly outside area which would be cool for a group outing. Probably not going back.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.

The grilled onions and sauce were the perfect compliment, and you could taste every flavor in each bite. The drinks came in cans. I didn't notice a fountain setup, so that might be why.
