No lines when we came. Ordered catfish, added wings. Had to go to the counter a few times to get napkins and sauce. We picked collard greens and yam, greens as sides. Catfish: heavy batter. Lacks flavor, good size Wings: lacks soul food flavor Yam: cold String beans: Ok Collard greens: Ok. Clean. Yes to military discount. Holiday weekend maybe a factor? Not sure.

Sat quickly. Ordered the chicken and eggs with potatoes, I was asked if I wanted a thigh and drumstick or two thighs, I asked for two thighs but was served the drumstick and thigh. Food is cooked to order so it does take over 30 minutes. Home cooking does take a bit so I understand that part. Hubby got the biscuits but said they were salty. Fountain drinks were out of order so our options were tea, Kool aid or tea. Food came out hot and crispy but just wasn't for Me. Hope your visit goes better and you enjoy the food..

The chicken skins are AMAZING!!! Get them all for yourself and do not share! The waffles are alright. The fried chicken is fresh, crispy, flavorful. Waffle fries are freshly made and crispy. The biscuits are made fresh and good. Great southern guilty pleasure food!

Food is massive!!!! Delicious and fresh..... Service - man!! Slow and a little bit chaotic... but VERY slow. PREPARE to wait.. Restaurant was nice, clean.. It was our 1st time there, it started to fill up with people and conversation. It was a nice vibe. I would return, take cash because otherwise it's a small fee if you use your credit card. I do recommend checking it out.

I had the southern fried catfish My Husband had the hot honey tenders and waffle fries, and for the appetizer we had onion rings i'm gonna get everything was bomb. This is most definitely our new spot now I can't wait to try the oxtails. Our waitress was very nice. I didn't get her name, but I know she's expecting her first boy. So if you go in and dine, and you have her for a waitress, make sure you tip her well.

I had them to make my waffle with the caramelized pecan & banna ... fantastic!!!

Food, Service was amazing thumbs up to the cook! I would recommend this Mr.Cs to friends & family

    Chicken with Tartar???

Didn't even get what we ordered. We ordered six pieces of chicken with two waffles to-go that took over 45 minutes. When I got the food, got home, only one waffle was in the bag and we were given tartar instead of ranch for the Buffalo ranch... The staff said it would be about 25 minutes. Multiple people came after us, ordered more, and left before we were given food. The staff was not overly busy, about 3/4 of tables were full. Not worth the time or money. Very upset we paid so much for soggy food and didn't get what we ordered. Definitely skip.

This is how much fish was left after peeling off the breading.

The catfish had no seasoning. The catfish was heavily breaded. The catfish filets were a decent size, but the breading makes the serving deceiving. The collard greens were good. The fried okra was good. I am not a fan of the fish, it was very disappointing.

Chicken and waffle PROMO 99 cents

First off... this is the week to try this place!! They have a PROMO!! One leg or thigh and one of their crispy fluffy wonderful waffles for 99cents! Yes !! 99 cents!! Perfect day for us to try this outstanding spot! Chicken and waffles alone are a BIG YES for me but this place also adds KOOL AID! And Beautiful cakes- RED b VELVET, chocolate and banana pudding... everything you want from a SOUL FOOD restaurant. They also offer other amazing food ! Burgers, wings, fried pork chops, monte Cristos, the list is endless. Seriously. Prices are great for the amount of food you get. I'm talking LARGE PORTIONS! The waitress was amazing. On her game. Consistent, friendly , welcoming! They start the meal with Homemade sweet corn bread and soft sweet butter - I mean.. come on!! From there it just gets better! I promise. Go by TODAY!!

My daughter & I went to eat at Mr C's Fried Chicken. The sign on the podium inside said "wait to be seated". The waiter seated us. After being seated, I ordered smothered pork chops, candid yams, greens & grape kool-aid. My daughter ordered meatloaf, cabbage, green beans & punch. My smothered pork chops were 2 fried pork chops with mushroom gravy poured on top. The waiter asked if I wanted the pork chops fried or broiled. Broiled? I was puzzled. I never eaten broiled smothered pork chops so I said fried. The meat loaf ordered by my daughter appeared old, so she sent it back & ordered Gulf fried shrimp. We ordered peach cobbler & banana pudding for dessert. I was disappointed with the pork chops, they were not smothered in gravy (see attached photo). But here is the kicker! This was our first time dining at Mr C's. Receiving our bill (see photo) we noticed the total: $59.64 CASH OR & $61.92 USING CREDIT/DEBIT CARD. We did not know there was a credit/debit card charge. The cashier said, the notice is on the door & the counter top. We did not notice the sign on the door & we did not notice the note on the counter. The note on the podium said, "wait to be seated". So seeing a credit/debit charge, I refused to pay the card fee so I went to Walmart, got cash & paid cash for our meals. RECOMMENDATION: Take cash with you when dining out as not to be charged for using plastic.

While in San Antonio, we like to check out the restaurants, especially soul food, since we cannot get it in our area. Next on the list of recommendations was Mr. C's. We ordered the 10 piece meal with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I made green beans at home to go with them. It came with cornbread. We also paid the up charge to have it mixed and ordered the family pack of chicken wings. When we arrived, they were packing up our order. The place is small but really cute. They have a chalkboard with drinks on it. The staff was really nice. The food came out HOT! When we arrived back home, the family tried it and felt it could use more seasoning for us. Everything tasted ok. We may try something else next time and eat in the restaurant.

Great atmosphere upon walking in. There's an energetic vibe and the staff is friendly and attentive. We ordered the homestyle meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese along with the catfish and fried okra. Everything was absolutely delicious!! The meatloaf was tender and juicy. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perversely. The catfish was crunchy and flavorful. I can't wait to visit this place again.

We enjoyed some of their IPAs and began with grilled oysters which were delicious with quite the kick and their chilled cucumbers which were nice but would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces as each piece was an entire spiral from the length of a cucumber - but they were still delicious! I got the snapper throats which is my absolute standout dish off their menu, my husband had the pork and my kids enjoyed the calamari and their pressure cooked chicken with biscuits - with their delicious house salad as a side as one is more than enough for 4! Perfect spot for Father's Day!

We sat outside, the little seating area is shaded. We started with drinks, i had the frozen pearlita which was so refreshing during the hot sticky weather. We also tried the seafood platter which was awesome. I had the snapper throat and crab Mac and cheese as my meal, it was so much food and so good. I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. Their host/doorman was kind, he offered the line water on many occasions and made pleasantries with almost all guests as the line moved. It was a hot day so those waters were clutch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.

The cabbage was somewhat spicy, the cornbread muffin was a half muffin, the muffin did not fill up the cupcake muffin wrapper. But the fried catfish, fried chicken wings and yams were on point, I would order the catfish and chicken wing plate to go anyday! The peach cobbler was very sweet. My daughter ordered meatloaf, a pork chop plate, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread muffin, a tropical punch beverage and banana pudding which I felt the pudding was watered down vs. being thick. She asked for medium cooked pork chops and one pork chop was medium and one pork chop was over cooked. She notified the cashier and he stated they both were cooked at temp the same time. The collard greens were spicy and the Mac & cheese were watered down. I had to go to the restroom. This was the worst restroom in any restaurant I have ever used. First, there was no light on, I had to ask for light and one of the employees turned on the light. Secondly, there was an awful hole in the top right corner ceiling, I was afraid to use the restroom for fear of some bug crawling in through the ceiling hole. Third, there was also a hole in the wall visible behind the toilet tank top, again I was afraid to set down on the toilet and the whole bathroom decor was unappealing. When other patrons described this establishment as as "HOLE IN THE WALL" they were absolutely correct. Don't forget about the hole in the ceiling! Entering into the building, the walls and ceiling were black, making the atmosphere sad. There was also a small bar to the left of the dining area. But the kicker for me was, our two meals, two beverages, and two desserts cost $61!!! As many Soul Food Restaurant I have eaten in with my daughter for two people, I have never been charged so much for two soulfood meals with two beverages and two desserts. RECOMMEDATION: Of course my palate is different from other customers, but I would never return to the establishment due to being over charged for two meals, two beverages, two desserts and the lady's restroom was the pits.

It is the perfect stop after showing friends and family the Alamo and the River Walk before heading back home. Just be prepared for a line because every time we have gone, there is usually one. The ribs and sausage are also solid choices. For sides, we rotate between the well seasoned green beans, mac and cheese, beans and okra. All of them are excellent and you really cannot go wrong. Side note. I am not a fan of their corn. I prefer corn that leans sweet rather than spicy, so it is not my favorite. Next time I go, I already know what I want to try. EVERYTHING I just mentioned was fresh, delicious, and ON POINT and I had enough food left over for dinner and a little leftover for the next day. I definitely got my money's worth. I went there after reading the reviews and having a taste for barbecue chicken. Unfortunately, there was no barbecue chicken or anything I planned to purchase while checking out the menu at the airport. However, I have no regrets and I will be back when I'm in the area. Service: I called while at the airport to make sure they had chicken and I was told yes. I immediately headed straight to the restaurant from the airport. It was my first visit to this restaurant and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the service. I wasn't immediately acknowledged. They ran out of everything I planned to purchase between the time I called and drove to the restaurant from the airport (short ride). The area where the condiments are stored was not as clean or organized as it should have been for a restaurant. There seemed to be enough staff to take care of it while I was there. Staff I came in contact with were nice and acknowledged with a smile when I was at my table. There is an area before arriving to the restroom that was not as clean as it should have been. The garbage can was running over with trash. Atmosphere: Loud, joyful, and family friendly environment. I met a family who were looking for a place to sit. I invited them to sit with me and it was great! I will be back the next time I am in the San Antonio area. I'm thinking positively . If you're in the area, check them out and give them a try.
