Sat quickly. Ordered the chicken and eggs with potatoes, I was asked if I wanted a thigh and drumstick or two thighs, I asked for two thighs but was served the drumstick and thigh. Food is cooked to order so it does take over 30 minutes. Home cooking does take a bit so I understand that part. Hubby got the biscuits but said they were salty. Same goes for the onion rings--well fried, no grease overload. Now let's talk flavor, because this is where I keep it honest. I love fried chicken. I know fried chicken. And while this was cooked perfectly, it was missing that seasoning punch. I kept waiting for garlic... black pepper... something to tap me on the shoulder and say "Hey, I'm here." The onion rings were in the same lane--technically solid, but just okay flavor-wise. Didn't even get what we ordered. We ordered six pieces of chicken with two waffles to-go that took over 45 minutes. When I got the food, got home, only one waffle was in the bag and we were given tartar instead of ranch for the Buffalo ranch... The staff said it would be about 25 minutes. Multiple people came after us, ordered more, and left before we were given food. The staff was not overly busy, about 3/4 of tables were full. Not worth the time or money. Another great experience at Mr C's! Wait staff took care of 4 adults and 1 toddler with a great sense of service and sprinkled with fun. Just realized tonight that not only is the food fantastic, but they have a full bar as well! The manager stopped by to see that we got all our food and that we were happy with both food and service. Two stars as the service was terrible from the server and kitchen. The chicken was good and hot. Otherwise this would be a one star. My wife and I went on a Friday for lunch. Initially I was nervous that it would be packed but it was not even half full. Great I thought! We were sat immediately. The wait for the initial drink order was normal but after that the service just went down hill. We waited a bit to put in our order but not a huge deal. Once the server took our order we ended up waiting 30 minutes for our food to get to us. By the time we ordered and we got our food, it was a total of about 45 minutes since we had sat down. I had to remind the server that my coffee needed to be refilled as it was empty. We got our food and we sat there for about 5 minutes before the server came back and we let her know we didn't have utensils. My wife's mac and cheese did not seem hot and fresh. It was only warm and seemed to be a day old. As we sat there and ate our food, we were reminded by seeing other customers that Mr. C's gives complementary corn bread. We never got our corn bread. It would have been nice to eat the corn bread while we waited for 30 minutes to get our food. We waved down the hostess as our server was rarely checking up on us and she got us the corn bread. Kitchen staff need to step up their game. The server that was on shift at 12 PM today either needs to step up her game or the manager should put a second server on duty. My daughter & I went to eat at Mr C's Fried Chicken. The sign on the podium inside said "wait to be seated". The waiter seated us. After being seated, I ordered smothered pork chops, candid yams, greens & grape kool-aid. My daughter ordered meatloaf, cabbage, green beans & punch. My smothered pork chops were 2 fried pork chops with mushroom gravy poured on top. The waiter asked if I wanted the pork chops fried or broiled. Broiled? I was puzzled. I never eaten broiled smothered pork chops so I said fried. The meat loaf ordered by my daughter appeared old, so she sent it back & ordered Gulf fried shrimp. We ordered peach cobbler & banana pudding for dessert. I was disappointed with the pork chops, they were not smothered in gravy (see attached photo). But here is the kicker! This was our first time dining at Mr C's. Receiving our bill (see photo) we noticed the total: $59.64 CASH OR & $61.92 USING CREDIT/DEBIT CARD. We did not know there was a credit/debit card charge. The cashier said, the notice is on the door & the counter top. We did not notice the sign on the door & we did not notice the note on the counter. The note on the podium said, "wait to be seated". So seeing a credit/debit charge, I refused to pay the card fee so I went to Walmart, got cash & paid cash for our meals. While in San Antonio, we like to check out the restaurants, especially soul food, since we cannot get it in our area. Next on the list of recommendations was Mr. C's. We ordered the 10 piece meal with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I made green beans at home to go with them. It came with cornbread. We also paid the up charge to have it mixed and ordered the family pack of chicken wings. When we arrived, they were packing up our order. The place is small but really cute. They have a chalkboard with drinks on it. The staff was really nice. The food came out HOT! When we arrived back home, the family tried it and felt it could use more seasoning for us. We dined in for breakfast this morning at opening time. I will say I deducted 1 Star due to the buisness not being open on time at stated on their door at 8 am. We approached the door at 8:04 am and it was still locked. We stood there for a moment and no one came to open the door for us so we were going to go to another establishment that was actually open with the door open. Right as we were walking away a waitress came and said they were trying to find the key to unlock the door. Upon returning and I looked at the door and it didn't take a key so I wasn't impressed with that. Now on to the food the best part :) this was the 1st time ever trying Mr.C's and I was impressed. I had the chicken tenders and waffle. My hubby had 2 chicken thighs and waffle and grits. My dish was delicious. The waffles had a slightly sweet taste and the chicken was amazing. Seasoned to perfection and fried perfectly. It was juicy and not dry and not spicy or overly seasoned. My hubby enjoyed his dish as well. The plates have huge portions as well. We had 2 slices of cornbread and that was so good. It was slightly warm when served. The restaurant was clean and so were the bathrooms. Once again, despite no one in the restaurant, they still got our order wrong (was supposed to have sweet potato waffle fries - we got regular; supposed to have the sauce on the side - we received no sauce). They now use these sealed plastic bags to package your food in, so not only could we not check our food before we left, the plastic seals in the moisture, so my entire piece of chicken was soggy (tenders were slightly crispy - go figure). Fries were bland - no salt or seasoning. Chicken breast was moist but again, had zero seasoning on it & the batter was like a wet paper towel. Apparently they do not brine their chicken ahead of time. Bread for the sandwich is thick, moist & tastes good, but too much for such a bland piece of chicken. The couple of pickles on it were also thin & had no crunch at all. They had a weird after taste, almost as if the used a sweetern instead of sugar. You can definitely tell the yams were not made with dark brown sugar. The cornbread was way too dry and crumbling as I picked it up. It taste like it was made with masa, similar to what is used to make tamales. They would do better with using jiffy cornbread mix.. The only thing tasted halfway decent was the mac & cheese the cornbread taste like cake no cornbread flavor at all. I have to ask have they changed cooks because as many times as I have ordered from them, I have never been this disappointed on an order over $30 plus tips I will not be ordering from them again nor recommending this business.
