We towed a vehicle that was not starting over the weekend. After a week Gold Hill said he had started it 3 times and it started every time but he wanted to keep it longer to look at more. On Wednesday, he said it would be $780 for a starter and a hose. My son called back to say we were just going to pick it up. (We live more than an hr away and we figured if my son fixed it or junked it we just needed to move on to someone who would give us a time line and communicate.) We called back a few minutes after receiving their call but for the next day and a half there was no answer. When I picked my son up from school we were only an hr away so we figured it was the best time to pick it up. We called to say we were coming and we finally had someone answer. They said the car was taken apart but I figured it was a diagnostic, couldn't be that big of a deal to put back together. They said it would be an hour, we were okay with that since we had a drive. When I got there he said it was not drivable. We knew about a loose radiator hose, my husband and son reconnected it before it did not start but I did not know it needed a new radiator. When I went to pay, I expected the diagnostic fee but he said he was charging for taking the car apart and putting it back together. I was not sure why a diagnostic cost so much but I never want to feel like I was not fair or I owed someone something. I paid it and I ordered a tow truck to take it to my mechanic, 80 miles. Driving home my son said, did you read this? I hadn't. It said we have permission to order the starter. We didn't we called for a day and a half to tell them we wanted to pick it up. This was totally dishonest. It made more sense though why they had to put it back together. I still wanted to assume the best though. I called the next business day since the receipt said we payed for the part to be ordered and wanted to pick it up. I also wanted to explain our point of view, that my son's car is only worth $1500 and my son needed to get to work, and there was poor communication weather it was their fault or not we felt in the dark. (I had asked the day before why they don't answer the phone. He said they have a number that is only for outgoing calls. Maybe we were calling this one.) Then in reference to picking up the starter he said I could not just have it because it had a core charge. I was not aware of that but asked what it would cost, he said $69. It still seemed worth it and what good is a preordered 2006 Acura Starter to him. So I told him my husband would be making the drive to come get it and would pay the core charge. My husband drove there and was told he could not have the part because it was not payed for. The charge was for dismantling and reassembling the car. Something we had never approved of. Now after my husband made the drive they did not only want the core charge but $300 and some dollars more!!! They have our number, if they change their mind call us. We never approved of the repair or part order, we said we would call and we did, A LOT of calls, and they never called us back to confirm. They had our number. The earliest communication we had after the estimate was when we said we were coming to get it. I really felt at first there was a misunderstanding, at this point I feel that it was intentional. I am not sure how they can feel they were fair in this situation. This an 18 yr old who drive a $1500 car. Keep in mind he just payed $75 to have the car towed there, $320 to leave with the car, he has to pay me back for the new 80 mile tow, and I drove him to work for a week but he missed a week of work too. The guy is smart, there is no doubt about that but his timeliness and communication is poor but I question his integrity as well. read more

Honest estimate. Performed the work to be done as expected. Completed the work when they said it would be done. What else can you expect from a garage? How about comfy sofas, and a friendly staff? This was the only garage in the area I could find that would service an R-12 Freon Air Conditioner, without trying to force you to upgrade to R-134a. For those unfamiliar with car air conditioning, R-12 is colder, and not sold in late models. Gold Hill Automotive has the appropriate license to service the older units legally, and safely. Upgrading is an unnecessary expense that typically results in leaks, warmer AC, and a lighter wallet. read more

Wanted to share the wonderful experience I had with gold hill automotive. A door on my car would not unlock and I called around to multiple mechanics in the area, most did not know how to fix the issue or would give me a quote of at least $600. I called gold hill and they offered to look at my car and determine if it would be something they could help with. They took their time, did their research and provided me with multiple solutions to fix the problem. Was able to have the lock fixed for under $200. I highly recommend gold hill automotive. My experience with this shop has been beyond terrible. The owner Rich simply CAN'T communicate with anyone beyond an initial "here's what's wrong" conversation. I've been trying to get my car fixed as well as a few upgrades installed recently and was hoping this shop could get the job done, but they've fixed nothing. Thus far they weren't able to fix the initial problem with my ECU and wanted to have it rebuilt for $600 (I did the research and it was a fried transistor and that cost me $50 and I performed the fix) and they charged me $125 for labor when they didn't fix a thing. After that I wanted to have a short shifter installed and purchased it through a very reputable company. After confirming with the owner that they CAN do this upgrade, they started to work on it... or so they said. I called them everyday to see what's going on as they don't call me (or do when I'm at work when I told them I can't answer so to email me) and Rich has informed me that this work will be completed by the end of the day three days in a row now. After he told me that he would email me by 5pm today with an update I didn't receive any communication so I called only to hear that he can't do the install because it's the wrong part. I've been buying car parts from this website for years and the part is not the problem, it's the mechanic and this part has been installed on my exact car thousands of times. Now I'm going to owe around another three hours worth of labor because he is incapable of following directions and installing this part. On top of that I was going to have him install new plugs, coils, rotors, and brakes which would've given him a lot more business, but I'll NEVER go back to this shop. Please read the reviews on Google as they're all 1 star. I'm glad that the people who rated it 5 stars had a good experience, but that was simply not the case for me. Thank my lucky stars that I was only a few miles from Gold Hill Automotive when I had a flat tire! I was in from Atlanta and was very worried that I would be taken advantage of in pricing and service. This was not the case, they helped me out on the spot and put my spare on so I could get to a place that had my special type of tire. They even called around and tried to find the tire for me as they did not have it in stock. Their service was honest and speedy. THANK YOU for all your help! read more

Stay away from this place, the owner doesn't value customers! A/C condenser was replaced in this shop, for some reason too much refrigerant was added to the system and it stopped cooling the next day. The owned looked at the issue himself and offered me to buy a new condenser and start everything from the beginning. I went to the other place to check for the issue and they told me that the condenser is fine but the system is over charged and refilled the system. The owner of Gold Hill Automotive didn't want to recognize his mistake and refused to compensate even a part of expenses I had spent to fix the issue. The compensation I was offered was $20,-. This is how much according to him he charged me for the refrigerant and the labor to refill the system. Stay away from this place! read more
