I can recommend this place for breakfast, but I just can't get behind it for dinner. Breakfast: definitely get the chicken fried steak. It's really good, even if you're not into chicken friend steak (I'm not). I got something else and was pretty butthurt when I got a taste of my friend's chicken fried steak. POOR DECISION on my part. About breakfast: it stops promptly at 11am here. Seward sucks for brunch, everyone aggressively stops breakfast at 11am, as far as I can tell. Wake up early and/or leave the Yukon before your second trip to the ATM. Dinner: is pricey and just not all that impressive. I got the halibut tacos and my mom got the garlic halibut. Both of our meals took forever to come out and when they finally did, they were lukewarm. As in: not hot. It just was not satisfying, especially after the long wait. It WAS the 4th of July so maybe they were understaffed? It just wasn't that busy when we were there. The halibut didn't taste all that fresh either. Come for breakfast, skip dinner. read more

The food was incredible!! I am giving a 5 star review for the food. Upon sitting down, we realized this place doesn't serve alcohol, which was a slight disappointment at first. That quickly subsided when our lunch arrived. We ordered halibut tacos, a burger, clam chowders, and quesadillas. Every single item was amazing and flavorful, unlike some of the other Seward restaurants. Every single scrap was eaten and we all shared bites of each others' food. Let us order takeout within 15 minutes of closing it's hard to find late lunch in Seward after an outing. We ordered the hot ham and cheese and a hamburger. Both were awesome and really hit the spot. Food: ordered the northwestern burger with onion rings. The burger was average to good. The bacon was crispy and thick cut which was nice. Definitely better than most meals I've tried so far in Alaska. The onion rings has some more work to be done on the batter. Kept falling apart and the onion was wet. Not sure if it's just the type of onion chosen. Environment: very friendly waitress and nice decor restaurant. They have a nice view of the mountain and a cool wall of dollar bills. I've seen that stuff at an Irish pub in the past. Overall: will try other restaurants in Seward first, but if all fails...will definitely return here to try their other selections. read more

The Gold Rush is a small cafe with a family feel to it, serving dependably delicious food in a family friendly atmosphere. Highly reccamended if you are down for a day trip, and a must visit if you are staying in Seward for several days. The gold pan combo platter was fantastic! At a hefty $57 (2018), it offers a sampling of three of Alaska's most sought after food delicacies. The king crab was succulent, the smoked salmon plentiful, and the fried halibut deliciously seasoned. My only critique would be the plating and the questionable choice of offering garlic mashed potatoes instead of fries. My daughter settled on the grilled ham and cheese with soup. The flavors were all great, but the soup was served in a much too large square bowl, and the sandwich was grilled on a reversed hamburger type bun, which made for an ugly sandwich. Aside from the presentation, both were delicious! Finally the wife decided to get the cod fish and chips. The cod was flaky and delicious, with the outer dry batter not being overpowering. The fries were fantastic, with a touch of rough cut salt for seasoning. Our wait staff was fantastic, attentive but not obtrusive. She also was able to ensure food allergies were taken care of. Overall, I would give the Gold Rush 4/5 stars, with 1 Star being taken away for messy plating and the poor pairing of garlic mash instead of fries with the Gold pan. Called ahead and was asked to be put on the wait list. Was told it would be a 40 minute wait. After 36 minutes I went in and asked if they knew when the table would be ready. They stated it would be another 30 minutes. The oldest air ant closed in 45 minutes. There were multiple empty tables so I asked if we could sit at one of those. After being seated it took a while to get our order orders with all the food coming out at different times. Ordered the fish tacos and only two of the three tacos came with fish on them. read more

Yes, $43 for fish and chips. I wouldn't of cared about the price if the upgrade wasn't 3 tiny nuggets of over cooked salmon. Extremely disappointing. The halibut was good though. What an amazing experience! My husband and I walked in about an hour after the restaurant opened and got a table right away. Went here on our breakfast stop on our day trip to Seward. It's a nice family place. So we came here for breakfast, and we came too late so we had no choice but to order lunch. (You guys should really expand your breakfast hours - so many people came in for breakfast and just left...) Lunch menu is on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for. Ended up ordering the king crab dish and the halibut and chips. The fried halibut was tender and perfect. The breading was light which was a delight. I loved the french fries - it has the perfect crisp to softness ratio. If I were to come back here, I'd definitely get an order of their fries again. The king crab dish was just as expected. This is an overrated restaurant, the food is ok, it is neither a great food nor it is special. We had a chowder and salad and a halibut taco. The salad greens was not fresh, it is kind of old lettuce with frozen cucumber. The halibut itself was decent while the stuff on the taco were regular greens with Costco type cheddar cheese. The sauce was out of purchased jar rather than a homemade one with an old and stale chips. I guess two stars are still too much! There are much much better restaurants in Seward. read more
