The ladies who work here are so kind, sweet and genuine. They never try to sell you anything you don't want and work tirelessly to find something you love. I wanted to find a band to compliment my engagement ring, and mind you, I'm very picky, I know what I want. We spent a few sessions looking for what I wanted, they sent some stuff over from another store and also brainstormed with their other employees. At the end, they weren't able to find something I wanted, which was fine, but I appreciated all their research in it. Terry and her team are amazing. I ended up resizing my ring here. I bought my wife's almost antique black faced Rolex watch to them for a battery replacement. Right from the get go the young male sales agent stated 1/2 of the round adjustable black n chrome dial on the outside of the timer was loose which was not the case when I bought it in. When I received the watch back from them the dial was completely loose / detached from the watch. When I got home the time was set to daylight savings time or 1 hour ahead! They did not accept any responsibility for any damage or error! Therefore I'm not a fan of them anymore! read more

I took an old piece of jewelry in to Gold Rush with some ideas how I might want to re-set it to make a necklace with a new, more sturdy chain. Stephanie worked diligently with me to design an enhancer so I could wear the piece with different chains or pearls! They made an old piece look stunning and did an A+ job!!! It's more beautiful than I imagined and it's sturdy and well- engineered. The jeweler even re-coated some pieces in new precious metal to add to the shine! I'm not a fan of jewelry, rings, etc. But I do love my Tommy Bahana wristwatch which was given to me by a very dear friend. On Friday 2/7 the pin in the band fell out and I couldn't find it. The next day, I was downtown doing errands and I was frustrated that I'd have to go all the way to the eastside to my usual jewelry repair store on McDowell, next to Safeway. A friend suggested I go to Hollingsworth Jewelers at their new Iocation across from Blvd. Cinemas. I figured I could do my last errand nearby and come back for my watch in about an hour or so. I brought it in and the very nice lady looked at the watch and told me it wouldn't be ready until Tuesday!! Tuesday?! "Yes, the jeweler isn't here today and the pin will have to be specially ordered" as they didn't have any for this kind of watch. (Damn you, Tommy B!) She gave me a receipt and I blinked at the $25(!!!!) it would cost to replace the pin!! Ohkaaay. Late Tuesday morning I called to see if I could pick up the watch. Another lady answered saying she was almost finished with it and that she would call to let me know when I could pick it up. By 2:30 I was wondering What the....? So around 3:15 or 3:30, I went to the P.O. and decided to wander over to Hollingsworth. The lady told me, "I'm so sorry. I thought it was a battery replacement. I should've checked" (Ya think?) Thank you and goodbye, Hollingsworth. Today, Thursday, at 10 AM, before going to Safeway I went over to Gold Rush and met one of the ladies who works there outside. She said the shop didn't open until 10:30 but she'd be happy to take the watch and call when it was ready. I figured I'd come back Friday or Saturday as I didn't want to drive all the way from the west side in the Atmospheric River downpour we were expecting. Ninety minutes later (as in JUST 90 minutes later!!), Teri called to say the watch was ready. Lo and behold, the sun was out, so I drove back. The place was BUSY (Valentine's Day eve!), but Teri waited on me almost immediately. Five dollars please (as in JUST $5 please). What?! I had a $5 off coupon for jewelry repair over $25, and she said to keep the coupon and use it another time for something else. She told me, "We always have watch pins in stock." Did I mention that it was ready in JUST 90 MINUTES and that it cost JUST $5? I told her, "Yelp is gonna hear about this!!" Teri told me, "Thank you. I took my watch in for repair, they informed me it would need an overhaul and the cost would be $220. After 5 weeks i received the watch back. 2 days later i returned it because it would stop running and would lose several minutes a day. 5 days later i received it back again, with a note that said watch is working fine and instructions that it needs to be rewound every six hours. That is ridiculous. Plus it still loses time. These things started after the over-haul. Gold Rush used to be my go to Jewelry store. Not any more. read more

Affordable but sloppy repair work. Brought in one chain to be fixed, and it came back discolored and rough around the soldering. The staff is very nice, but I wish they had actually looked at the chain before I came in to pick it up- I had to wait around for it to be cleaned up. The repair was also pretty visible, which they only told me after the fact was unavoidable. I would have preferred to know that beforehand, as I would have repaired the chain myself if it was going to be visible anyways. After being cleaned up, the sharp edge on the soldering is gone and the color is better. Make sure to check your pieces before leaving the store! read more

They advertise their business as a "while u wait" service. It wasn't. I came in three times to do a five minute service. But I brought in a watch to have links removed and they asked me to come in the day after. I wasn't expecting that considering they wouldn't close for another hour. It takes five minutes to remove links from a watch. So I came to pick it up the day after and I realized it was lopsided. When I put it on, the face of the watch was leaning more towards one side. Because they removed two links from each side, but the watch was made so that both sides have a different number of links because of the way it clasps. So I had to go back in the day after. I also brought in another watch (same watch, different color) to show them that the one they fixed was uneven. The employee working seemed dismissive of my problem and said he wasn't sure what I wanted. I explained that the watch fit but was lopsided so that the face leaned to one side. He said he wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I just asked him to take one link from the longer side and move it to the shorter side. Another employee brought me the watch when it was finished and she says something like "there's not much you can do" which is weird considering the problem had just been fixed. I came here because I used to have my watches fixed at Macy's in San Francisco but I don't live there anymore. Personally I wasn't happy with my experience here because they advertised it as a "while u wait" service but it wasn't, they were dismissive of my problems, and it seemed like they wanted me to be fine with whatever even though I am paying for a service for an expensive watch. I feel like as a business that works with different types of jewelry and watches, they should be aware that not all watch bands are built the same. When I told them about the problem, it seemed like I was inconveniencing them. Even just looking at it, without trying it on, I thought it looked lopsided so I compared it to my other watches and I realized it was uneven. I'm not a jewelry nerd but I know when something looks and functions wrong. Funny thing is, I was considering buying a watch tool so I could do the job myself. But after reading some bad product reviews and realizing it would take days to ship, I thought it would be more convenient to just pay the $20 at a business and get it done right away. My fiancé had a custom engagement ring made here and it turned out amazing. Their customer service was impeccable. After getting engaged I took my ring in to get resized and they had it back to me by the end of the day! Over a year later we went back in to buy my fiancé's ring and to look at wedding bands. They were so friendly during this process and took the time to let him try on as many rings as he wanted. We did not feel any sense of pressure to pick a ring or buy one. Being that I had a custom ring I also had to order a custom wedding band. They explained the process and let me know what they imagined. They kept my engagement ring for a few days (they got it to me quicker than they originally estimated) and had the mold of my new band ready to approve. Once I approved the mold they created a beautiful diamond band that matches and fits my engagement ring perfectly. I have used Gold Rush for years, and never thought of doing a Yelp review until now, as there had never been an issue (my review will not be to their liking, I'm sure). I have a cheap Timex retailing for maybe $42; I brought it in for a new battery, and they took it into the back for replacement. The owner returned in about 2 minutes, handed me the watch, and said, "did they tell you this Timex takes a special oversize battery, and that will be $20 plus tax". I about fell over, as I know Timex batteries are common, and cost maybe $2. I remarked "that's a lot, and I even have your coupon that came in my mail". The man said, "On, in that case make it just $10", (like he was doing me a big favor) I paid it and left, but thought about it later, and decided he had taken advantage of me (I'm over 80 and walk with a cane). This is THE jewelry store to go to for anything jewelry connected. Not only are the people incredibly nice and knowledgeable, they are patient and very, very kind. I brought in some old jewelry to get an assessment of what I had. Some of it was my Grandmother's jewelry. I was so surprised to learn that these pieces had diamonds (the jewelry was so dirty), and that there was quite a bit of value in each piece. Aside from spending time with me and explaining each stone, they cleaned my wedding ring and replaced a pearl in another ring. I am going to be taking a lot of my jewelry to them next month because I trust them and know I will get straight, honest answers to my questions. The best, went in back in March of 2020 looking for wedding bands for my wedding that was supposed to be in May....(thanks Covid..) since then my fiancé and I decided to elope last minute. Worried that I wouldn't find the same bands I went back and not only found the same bands but ended up purchasing them, dropped off my engagement ring for resizing and for them to solder the two bands to make all three rings one. They were amazing! My daughter and I were shopping at another store the day before Thanksgiving and heading out if town the next morning at 5:00 am. I banged my ring on a shelf and a diamond fell out. I found it and brought the ring and loose diamond into Gold Rush. I was so sad at having damaged my wedding ring and felt super naked not wearing it. I have had two great experiences at this place. The first time, I brought in a necklace that had a broken chain. The jeweler/owner was very helpful, and gave me great advice to buy a new, stronger chain for $20 rather than repair the weak chain for the same price. I wear the necklace every day, and would have probably broken the chain again if I had not replaced the chain, so that was very helpful advice. The second time, my boyfriend and I brought in his necklace that also had a broken chain. The worker who assisted us--named Zoe--was so friendly and entertaining to talk to. She also gave great advice: rather than just fixing the broken link, shortening his chain would help it not get caught as easily, and would also cost the same amount ($30 for a 14-karat gold chain).
