This year I experienced significant weight gain and realized I needed professional support to improve my health. I decided to sign up for a membership at this facility after seeing a promotional offer. During the enrollment process, I was informed that I could meet with a personal trainer for a 50-minute session to ask questions. That initial meeting led to a recommendation for ongoing training, and although it came at an additional cost, I agreed to meet twice a week for three months. At the time, I was told the cost would be $304 per month for three months. As a full-time university student on a tight budget, this was a serious financial commitment, but one I was willing to make for the sake of my health and well-being. The issue began when after the agreed-upon three-month period, I was unexpectedly charged an additional $304. I reached out to my trainer, who was unaware of the billing process and directed me to contact the location directly. I was then given the manager's email and requested that no further charges be made to my card. Despite this, I was charged again the following month. When I followed up, the manager informed me that cancellations must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the billing date, a policy that was never communicated to me when I enrolled. I asked to have my card removed from the system and requested a refund for the two charges I did not authorize. The manager responded that refunds were handled by corporate. I then contacted corporate via email but received no response. As a last resort, I disputed the charges with my bank. Unfortunately, both disputes were denied, and the charges were not reversed. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. As a student, those unexpected charges created real financial strain, especially given the current economic climate. What was presented as a simple, short-term coaching commitment turned into an ongoing charge with unclear policies and poor communication. I'm sharing my experience to help others make informed decisions and to hopefully encourage better transparency in the future. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!! I received several emails stating that there was no card on file for the $19.99 monthly promotion I originally signed up for. As a result, I was charged $49.99 for the month due to late fees, and I was informed that my next payment would be $29.99. When I called to cancel and inquire about the charges, the representative explained that because of the late payment, my new monthly rate is now $29.99. This situation arose after I asked the manager to remove my card from file specifically for the personal training, not for the recurring monthly payments. Now, I've been told I need to call a different number just to cancel my membership. The entire process feels misleading and unnecessarily complicated. read more

Friendly staff waving you out as you leave. There is always parking available. If a machine breaks at this location I noticed it takes several months to fix it. Lockers rooms are kept tidey, and contain blow dryers. This location does get very packed in the evenings around 7 to 9 fyi. read more

My mother, Yvonne Lee, has been a loyal member of Gold's Gym La Mirada for many years and a resident of La Mirada since 1993. This gym has been essential to her health, including recovery from multiple surgeries -- most recently lung cancer just months before this incident. About six months ago, her key fob suddenly stopped working. No call. No email. No explanation. She later found out she'd been "blacklisted" after being wrongly blamed for something she didn't do. At no point was she given a chance to explain, respond, or even know what the accusation was. She was so distraught and unsure how to advocate for herself that she kept it to herself for months. I only found out recently and went to the gym to understand what happened. The staff refused to have a real conversation, simply repeated "those are the facts," and acted as if I were physically threatening them despite my calm approach. It felt dismissive and performative. We've contacted Gold's corporate hoping for a fair process but have received no meaningful response. I'm sharing this here because no longtime member -- especially someone recovering from major surgery -- should be silently suspended and left with no explanation or path to be heard. We're still hopeful someone at Gold's will take the time to acknowledge what happened and help make this right. read more

I have been a La Mirada Gold's Gym member since it opened in 2021, and really enjoy coming to this gym for my daily exercise regime, it is convenient, well equipped and staffed with great folks who are always friendly, professional and helpful. Wanted to give a shout out to Gold's Gym La Mirada, still one of the best facilities in Orange County. I'd like to highlight that the front desk staff are always friendly and welcoming, especially Bailey and Caleb... these two staff members always brings a smile when I check in for my daily workout, in some ways it makes it feel like a second home... they make the Gold's Gym experience superb compared to other locations like Cerritos and Fullerton. Bailey and Caleb are super conscientious, and always on time to open the gym at 5:00AM during the weekdays, I can always count on them to be there, and to welcome the early birds to the gym... they are super reliable and always friendly and helpful. In the past when a new front desk manager is hired, the existing staff are eliminated, not sure why this is, as many of them were competent and friendly. It appears that we are going through this cycle again now, as our front desk manager moved to the Cerritos location, and we now have a new front desk manager. I'm hoping management makes the right decision to retain valuable staff like Bailey. read more

I overheard people mentioning that a gym-goer defecated in the pool, and the management did not drain it. I also noticed a funky, moldy smell near the pool. This gym used to be managed very well, but now it's becoming disgusting. The sauna is also not cleaned by the staff, and there are clear signs of neglect, like the unpleasant smells. I mainly go to Gold's Gym for the group fitness classes. They offer a wide variety of cardio based, strength, cycling, and yoga classes. I really like the majority of the instructors and appreciate the availability of class days and times. Two of my absolute favorite instructors are Annette P. And Ronald W. I used to go to the Montclair location and it was amazing and set a high bar. Since moving around, other Gold's Gym Locations didn't ever seem to meet that same standard. But, when I visited this location I was relieved to see that same standard I always remembered being practiced. As a fitness newbie, I always felt overwhelmed by gyms. After a lot of research and gym tours, I finally made the decision to sign with gold gym a couple weeks ago and I highly recommend it. Out of the gyms that I toured I loved gold gym's vibe and atmosphere. In my opinion, the Zumba classes have been great and a beginner friendly stepping stone into getting fit. The general manager James is extremely friendly and helpful. I know someone that signed up for PT lessons with Don and has had nothing but positive experiences and results. The only downside is that parking could be better as finding parking from 5-6pm on some of the weekdays is a struggle. read more

I give a 5 because I like coming here. I just don't like that the gym closes at 7 pm on the weekends, but staff starts cutting amenities at 6:30 pm. I decided to join Gold's Gym because I had heard some positive things from others. Everything was going well until one day, I decided to add my husband to my membership. They had a deal going of $19.99 to add a family member, so we asked for a representative to assist us. We waited about 5 minutes, and JP went ahead and took us. He started getting to know us, asking about our reasons for joining the gym, how we had met, and our goals, whether we were getting married or already were. I didn't mind that; I thought he wanted to get to know us. He was also working on adding my husband to my membership. While we were doing all that, he was asking for our signatures. First, it was for my husband, but I told him I was the account holder. He asked for my information and had us sign a couple of different forms. We were almost done when I paid the fee and we were on our way. On Tuesday, we found out that my uusband had to pay an annual fee and had a completely different agreement number from mine. I contacted the gym and expressed my frustration. I spoke to Ricky and said a representative would call back to help me out. No one called me that day, but I called back the following day and was a bit frustrated because I wanted my issue to be fixed. Again, Ricky answered and assured me that a representative would call back. Im not sure WHY it took so long to get a hold of me, the times I've visited this gym they are all huddled up at the front just chit chatting Or walking around in groups. So They did about 15 minutes later, and the lead manager of the gym called. I explained once again what had been going on. Jocelyn looked into my contract and indeed saw that JP had not added my husband to my contract but had made a completely new agreement for him. I got upset because I had specifically said, "I want to ADD ON my husband to my membership." So why did he need to pay an annual fee when it had already been paid? She said that I had signed off and that I was aware of the situation. JP never once explained the reason behind signing up. I pointed out that any facility will briefly explain the necessity of a signature, which in this case would be fraudulent misrepresentation. NOT ONLY DID JP OPEN AN AGREEMENT he open the agreement equivalent to mine is one of eft PASSPORT PLUS GOLD, JP was all talk, asking about our lives instead of ensuring his clients understood what they were signing up for. Jocelyn also mentioned that adding my husband to my membership would impose limitations on his usage of certain gym facilities. To be honest, it's not worth the cost. I insisted on canceling both memberships and requested the links to my email, which she provided. She helped us out. However, we shouldn't have to go through that experience. Now, we not only have to pay the annual fee but also the monthly cost. Until then, they will actually cancel our memberships. This is my first bad experience with a gym, and I won't be attending this one anymore. We got our issue fixed but at what cost. Golds Gym needs to do better by training its sales reps. Another bad thing is that it's always overcrowded, and there's hardly any parking available. read more

I would really like to go 3 and 4 stars for this gym but the equipment maintenance issues keeps me from doing it. I am not sure why technically basic equipment...with cables, pulleys, weights, bearings, etc. is so hard to keep serviceable (it ain't rocket science). The fact that it is a major brand like Nautilus really makes you wonder if it's a management financial decision to not call for repair, and I will grant you that there could be parts issues, but if it is, maybe time to get equipment from a company with better parts availability. When this location was 24 Hour Fitness I swear they had an in-house rep and no machine stayed broken more than a day. The fact that Gold's simply wraps the broken machines with caution tape, without the info card taped to the machine with the date of failure sort of tells you they don't want you to know how long it's been down. The popular abs machine at the front has been down at least two weeks, maybe more, hard to understand why this has to be like this. It would be nice if management replies would be more than the usual "Sorry, we disappointed you, we're better than this, we will strive to do better". But then don't. read more
