We shared between 2 adults and an 11 y/o boy with a decent appetite! Everything arrived to our table piping hot. I LOVED the grinder. I asked for my oil on the side and after putting a small amount on my lettuce I sprinkled a generous amount of parm on it. It was heavenly. Ordered over the phone made business aware of food allergy we then found nut inside the container labeled as no nuts after having to bring child to ER for an allergic reaction. When i called to address the issue with business i didn't ask for any compensation or anything merely to express the severity of such a mistake and to make them aware I was met with being told I shouldn't even order from there if its so serious and being hung up on. I've heard so many good things about this place. I finally got around to trying it. I ordered a large buffalo chicken pizza, large harvest salad, and fries. I was given an estimate of 20 minutes. Upon showing up to pickup they got the order wrong, hearing antipasto salad instead of fries on the phone. The correct order was ready in 33 minutes. Understandable. Mistakes happen. When placing the order they asked which dipping sauce for the pizza. I asked for blue cheese. When I got home I realized they forgot the dipping sauce for the pizza and the dressing for the harvest salad. Overall the food was great, really good fries, the pizza was amazing and the salad was one of the best I've had in the area. While visiting Mystic, CT my family and I stopped in for lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff who took our order. Having been in food service myself for many years, I watch for proper Serve Safe trained ways and the cleanliness of the establishment when dining out. The restaurant was clean and well-kept. We ordered a Crispy Chicken Wrap a Mediterranean Wrap and Turkey Bacon Grinder, in short amount of time our lunch arrived. The first words that came to my mind were WOW! Our plates were overflowing the enormous wraps and grinder were skillfully prepared to perfection and presented nicely by one of their dedicated staff of eight years, the meal was absolutely delicious. The wraps were served with homemade thin sliced onion rings that came with Gold Star's special sauce, amazing! We enjoyed our meal chatted with the server who was attentive to our needs, we left with take home boxes. We will look forward to our next visit to the area and enjoy another wonderful meal. I have lived less than a couple miles away from this place for 3 years and never tried it. It's easy to miss. Crammed in a cruddy strip mall along Gold Star Hwy, a liquor store and laundromat next door. The decor is non existent, a little run down, but clean. The point is: ignore all of this. It's not what's important. Here is what is important to know about this place: They are super nice and friendly, the food is simple but awesome, and the portions are huge and the prices more than reasonable. One of my guilty pleasures is fried seafood. I ordered clam strips dinner and a friend ordered calamari. Ordering fried food in a place like this, you don't set expectations too high. But I was amazed. We were brought these heaping plates of seafood, fries, and these great lightly battered onion ring strings. None of it was overly greasy, it was some of the cleanest (IE. fresh fryer oil) fried food I have ever tasted. Really great. And the portion was too much for even me, I got a box and took some home. Since that trip I have also ordered delivery a couple of times. Their grinders are great! Get a toasted steakworks, it's what fat kids dream of! Overall, this place is a sort of diamond in the rough. I'm really not sure how I haven't rated this place yet, as I've been coming here since I was a kid. There's a reason I've continued to come here as an adult and bring my family here. I don't care what anyone says, this place has the best grinders in the Groton/Ledyard area. My favorites are the tuna and the meatball, though I almost always get the tuna. For me, the bread is a big thing that can turn a sandwich from okay into great, and I just love the bread here. The pizza is also great, but when I come here, it's for the grinders. We moved up into the Killingly area and when I visit my father in law down here I always come and pick up a sandwich. It's very well stuffed too - you get tuna/cheese/lettuce/tomato in every bite; I never bite in and get just bread. The family who run this place are very friendly people. They're still doing curbside pick up during the shut down, so make sure to go down and pick up a sandwich! read more

They gave great pizza- My husband loves it. My daughter and I love the gyro platter comes with fries and onion rings! (If you like lettuce on you gyro just ask- they serve them authentic without lettuce) I can not say enough about the thin crispy tasty onion rings. No where else around serves them. There are at least 3 other pizza places on my way to Gold Star but I pass them all and head straight to Gold Star. Service is friendly and clearly family owned and run. It's worth the trip. Earlier today, I ordered the gyro meal which comes with a side of fries with a special sauce and ketchup. I was really impressed by the flavor of the gyro as well as the fries. I was also very happy with the women who've helped me take my order, she was indeed very kind. I will say though, my gyro had too much onions and tomatoes, but I was happy with my meal regardless of that.
