This was my second time here. I came last week to get a dozen bagels to bring to an out of state friend. All bagels were enjoyed. Today I went in to order 4 egg sandwiches. One was wrong, the other 3 were okay. When it came time to pay I advised the girl behind the counter I had the Foodie Card, and presented it to her. She stated she applied it. I saw the price on the register didn't change. She stated it changed on the credit card machine. It did not, and she didn't apply the discount. I should've saved $3.20 on my bagel order today. This place has been going downhill this past year. Not sure what has changed as far as management or workers but the bagels are nothing like they used to be. They are smaller, stale and underbaked. They skimp so badly on the cream cheese. $6 for a bagel with specialty cream cheese should not be a schmear. But that's nothing compared to nasty attitudes from employees who screw up your order and then not only blame you but refuse to fix it. My family and I have faithfully bought bagels from Goldbergs for years but after the last trip totally done. The word FAMOUS does give you the feeling that something great is about to happen here but I was left with feelings of disappointment. I came here on a Friday afternoon about 1:30 end it seems like slim pickens on the bagels and they ran out of rolls. I did choose a croissant in lou of and it was good. The taste was very similar to the ones I get at Costco. The sandwich was good but nothing to write home about. The employees were very helpful and kind but my concerns are that the person helping me had very long designer nails , my fear is that these nails are a breading ground for bacteria. As a former nail technician I know this to be true. I do have to say I did NOT see her actually touch any food but after seeing the dirty floors and the smudged up front door and the man eating behind the counter I lost my trust that somewhere down the line she is probably touching someones food. read more

Looks are not everything. Honestly the worst bagel I ever tasted. There is absolutely no taste. They have to reinvent the wheel. Terrible terrible terrible. Everytime I go here they get my order wrong , tried to give them another shot today but something in my order is always missing. I asked for an omelette with turkey bacon pepper jack, salsa and avocado. I had to ask after my omelette was made for the avocado and salsa bc I was just handed a cheese omelette with tb on top(not what I ordered) .when I got home I started eating and I had eggshells in my omelette. I legitimately started crunching on eggshells and immediately spit out my food. They never get my order right and it's way too overpriced for me to pay for eggshells in my food. When I see signs for "Famous" or "Worlds Best Coffee", to me that's a challenge. That's a bold statement, famous. Have the Goldbergs made something so insane it gives them the famous title? I walk into the deli about 8am and the place is empty. I see two hard working people behind the counter. I'm not in the mood for a bagel, I have a craving for a sloppy egg sandwich. I don't care if its famous, I want it done correctly. I ask the gentleman behind the counter to make a loose scrambled egg sammy with sausage on a roll. Not a problem I'm told. For under $5 bucks you get a egg sammy with either a coffee or small OJ. I rarely eat eggs so this seems like a good deal. I sit down by the window, the table/area is dirty. The egg sammy? It was ok, nothing out of the ordinary to make it famous. Here's my issue with any Long Island deli, they take everything out of the Boars Head wrapper. All they do is slice the meat, slap on some cheese and spread on a condiment. Does that make one famous? I mean, we're at a time where everyone gets a trophy. So the famous title?? Unless these bagels are blessed with unicorn tears, its a typical Long Island deli-bagel joint. read more

Well, I'd certainly never need to go back, I waited about 12 minutes before anyone took my order, even more once people figured since they just poured their own coffee they could cut in front of me and pay. This place is great. Came here after seeing they have tofu cream cheese and when we walked in we were greeted with big smiles and the employees were very friendly. It's a cute little place right on Main St. The bagels were very flavorful. They weren't as big as I'm use to but they are delicious. They had two types of tofu, scallion and veggie. I wish I were able to give a better review. From my understanding Goldberg's is now under new ownership and I've noticed a drastic change in the staff but in a positive way! The new staff is super friendly while the old staff, not so much. However under the old ownership the bagels were awesome, good enough to deal with the rude counter workers. I've been here 3-4 times now since ownership has changed and the bagels are constantly burnt to the point where they're almost inedible. This seems to only be an issue with the darker seeded bagels. (Seeded flagels, Everything, egg everything, etc). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix this because I really want to continue giving you my business. read more

Every time I go here, I tell myself I'll never go back. The bagels are good quality and the only game in town in Patchogue, for the most part. So I'm stuck returning. The majority of the staff is great. Young, smiling and eager to please. Friendly in the morning when most would be cranky. There is a woman with short dark hair and tattoos, she might be the owner, crabby and rude every time I go in. She seems annoyed that people are bothering her business. Today I watched a poor guy try to order two different things on the specialty menu only to have her say "we don't really carry that stuff, honey" and yell at him that he could have an egg sandwich as he walked out the door. Mediocre food and super rude people. The woman who runs the place makes up ridiculous rules about what you can and can't order. I was working nearby and unfortunately this place was one of my only options. On multiple occasions they pulled this routine. You can order something one day, but she won't allow it another day. What's worse is that they openly mock customers who question their edicts. I live in NYC and I've never encountered this in a real deli. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, even if it's an inconvenience. Ordering lunch has never gotten me so worked up. I'm only giving one star so I can make the rating, otherwise I would give 0 stars. I refrained from doing this for a while because I felt bad being this person, but it's been about 4 times that this has happened now. The last 4 visits to Goldbergs, not only have they messed up our orders completely (for example, wrong egg styles, wrong bagels, no salt pepper ketchup, etc.), this last time every piece of bacon was under cooked. Like just not fully cooked bacon at all. And the frustrating thing is when we're there, and they recite the order back to us, we can hear them say the wrong thing over and over and we correct them and they are always like, oh yeah right right. But they still mess it up! This last time when we were in there, we heard multiple people saying how they messed up their orders and they wouldn't be coming back. There is also a woman who works there with short hair, she's always yelling or being corse to the other employees. It's so unprofessional. My family and I won't be returning to Goldbergs. It's Long Island, it's not hard to find a new and better bagel place. read more

Every new business has it's issues; waited a while to write this update hoping they would improve but several months in the bagels have not gotten any better. We've been in a dozen or so times since the change over, this will be the last for a while... This is Long Island... why wouldn't you put the effort into getting the bagels right? Why are they soft like dinner rolls now? Where did all the flavor in the bread go? Bagels aside, we miss the fresh cookies, muffins, asstd. baked goods the previous owner always had up front (and the smell from them baking!) for purchase. I hope things turn around.
