This is our absolute favorite local bagel spot. The inside is no frills; there is a long line during prime weekend hours but they always move through patrons quickly. The egg sammies hold up against any deli around - they always cook eggs perfectly to your liking and their rolls are super fresh. Growing up locally, Poppy Seeds has been my lifetime bagel store. A few months ago, new management took over and my experiences since haven't been great. Completely out of egg everything bagels before 10:30? I've never had that happen to me in the many years prior until last week. Sounds a tad silly, but the employee didn't mention "they'll be out in 5 minutes" or anything, and asked if I'd like something else. Shortly after, I heard a member of management (I presume) say 45 minutes. A bit mind-boggling when that's one of your most popular selections. I've heard former employees have transferred to another shop on Portion Road / Cenacle Road. I can assure you, the bagels, baked goods and sandwiches are identical. Sad to see a Centereach staple decline so rapidly. This is my first time leaving a yelp review, and had to make an account to let local customers know. read more

Great bagels, usually fresh, warm, soft, and tasty. However, I wouldn't recommend getting anything else though sadly. Cream cheese tasted kinda sour the last 2 times and bacon egg and cheeses are severely lacking egg. Get a dozen bagels from here, bring it home and get your own cream cheese or eggs is my recommendation. I've been giving this place a second chance lately, and perhaps I was too harsh before when it was undergoing management changes. They do have a lot of new items that they didn't have before. I still think it's a little pricy, and I miss when all the sandwiches came with a small juice, but the rolls are soft and my eggs are cooked the way I like them. All in all, it's a good place, the staff is very friendly and courteous, and the establishment is always clean and has a good atmosphere. read more

I wish I would have written a review about a year ago for poppyseed, because this was always our number one go to for egg sandwiches and bagels. The first stop before any road trip or city adventure! I have noticed quite a change in quality recently and sandwiches today are pretty slim and had hardly any egg. Poppy Seeds is HANDS DOWN my favorite bagel store of all time. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and the bagels have only gotten better. This place is a hole in the wall in a strip mall that is completely hidden. The inside is definitely a little grungy, but the management is working to change that. They've recently added an ATM machine, a mounted flatscreen TV (unnecessary if you ask me), more signs to show the variety of menu options have popped up recently as well. The staff is always friendly, even when I show up at 6:15 in the morning. The bagel selection is tremendous- they've got all sorts of flavors and varieties. I always order the same thing; an egg bagel with scallion cream cheese and a medium coffee little half and half and sugar. The egg sandwiches are always perfectly cooked to order, too. If you're looking to try something new here, order a bagel with bacon and cream cheese (just trust me on this one). Overall, Poppy Seeds will always be my hometown favorite breakfast spot. read more

This is the best deli I've ever eaten at. Great service and great food. By far my favorite bagels and every other deli I go to I compare their bagels to Poppy Seeds and some come close but none are better. Even with a line out the door, I've still gotten my food in a few minutes and when there's no line it's almost right away even for large orders. Asked my husband to get me some home fries. He found this place on yelp and because the reviews were pretty decent he decides to try them out. I understand it was a bit later in the day but if fresh home fries were not available then the burnt dried ends you had available should not have been sold. These home fries were so dry, greasy, and tasted old and they were hard. It's so disappointing that an establishment would even consider selling these. This was literally what was left at the bottom of the barrel and should have been thrown away. read more

I normally wouldn't get too heart felt over a bagel place. But this seems touching. I shall share my experience with y'all. I've gone into this bagel shop perhaps 5 times so far. Its always early morning and when I'm in the area. Every time I walk in, there seems to be a homeless person sleeping in the corner booth of the bagel shop. Now.. I have not asked anyone about it.. but I have just made the assumption. It seems that this individual stands outside all night, and when the bagel place opens, they allow this lady to come in and sleep in some heat in the corner? She seems to have just enough for a coffee to enjoy before her nap. Like I said, this is a complete assumption. Only reason I'm saying homeless is because she is always wearing the same clothing and carry's around a black plastic garbage bag. If this all being true, I have to say that is really sweet of the owners to allow an individual to stay in comfort. On the flip side, reviewing food wise. I've never had a problem with this place, minus the fact when you get eggs on your bagel, they default to Folded eggs. Kinda the same style eggs you'd get on a Egg sandwich from a fast food restaurant. Nothing wrong with the eggs. I mean I do watch as they crack the eggs and scramble them. Its just if you want Fried, Over Med, Sunnyside ETC. make sure you order the eggs that way. The bagels always seem to be fresh. Never had an awkward stale or harden bagel from there. They seem relatively quick on service. Yet I've only been in when they had a MAX of 3 extra orders ahead of mine. Still speedy. **THEY NOW ACCEPT DEBIT OR CREDIT** ($5.00 or more!) I'll continue to come to this place. You should try them out. I'm a sucker for egg sandwiches in the mornings. So for me to approve of this one is pretty extraordinary. read more

I've been coming to this bagel store for a VERY long time. Just recently I think they either have changed owners or had someone come in to cut down on things in order to save money because their egg sandwiches are very plain and thin now they used to be the best egg sandwiches on the island. They raised their prices on EVERYTHING and now charge you if you don't have cash. A year ago I would have given this place 5 stars but ever since the price increase and the food not being what it used to be I had to rate it 3 stars. The staff is always very friendly and quick with your orders which I always appreciate. I still come here on occasion because it is convenient but am looking for another go-to bagel spot that isn't over priced or just worth the money! read more

Decided to pop in here while waiting for my car to be inspected. The food is just meh...nothing special. I got the ham and cheese omelet with whole wheat toast and hubby got the hungryman. The woman at counter had to be told that hungryman comes on a hero which is pretty amazing because anyone who knows delis knows thats standard. The food lacked the basic necessesity of salt and pepper. To me this place is ok if you just need a quick bite for breakfast but honestly i'd rather go across street to Burger King for breakfast. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years. Old owners were amazing. New owners not so much. No idea what's going on here. Workers are pathetic. After multiple visits and them constantly messing up I still come. Today is the final time. After the employee gave my sandwich to the wrong person, that man came back in with it all opened. She proceeded to just hand it to me. Absolutely not. That is against every food code there is. Plus that's disgusting and even the man who gave it back told me demand a new one. Delivery is horrible , they never get everything right ! I ordered two orders of food and a coffee and they assumed I wanted my ice teas to be in replace of my coffee in response to there error they are charging me me for the ice teas and told me to be more clear when I order , if I'm not mistakened the ice teas come with the order regardless . This place was better before it was sold to the new owner. The prices on everything have gone up, while they give you less for your money. Breakfast sandwiches used to come with a small OJ, now you have to pay extra for that. Their coffee isn't very good, so we usually just don't get anything with the sandwich. I used to go in there everyday, but not any more. They also leave the packaged goods out for sale way beyond their expiration date. Makes you wonder what else is being used past the expiration date... Although I used to be a daily customer, if I needed to use my credit card to pay but my order was under 10.00, they charged me an additional .50 cents... really?? I'm in here EVERY DAY! Or at least I used to be... The employee's are all very nice, to bad the owner is so greedy. read more

Stale Food! Want proof? Check out the cookies on the counter. If you see a date on them, it is fresh, if instead you see smeared ink where the date should be - then you know they are past the "Best By" date. That is so wrong! Also, take a look at the chocolate bars - they melted during the summer (there's no A/C in there, so it gets very hot) - you can see someone handled them, and when it got colder again, the chocolate re-hardened in a "smushed" form. Gross! Make you wonder what else they serve that's past it's expiration date... things that you don't get to see (ingredients for the bagels, perhaps the cream cheese??) I used to go here everyday, but got turned off by the new owners idea of selling bad food to make a dollar. read more
