A very community/family oriented bagel place! It's a great location. I have to bring my own almond milk, but I don't mind. They don't offer dairy free spreads, but we got this avocado on the bagel that was really fresh!

No salt, no pepper, no butter and the bagel wasn't toasted. Women behind the counter didn't give a crap

The person behind the counter had no one else on line and yet managed to get my order almost completely wrong. She did not toast the bagel, add salt pepper or butter and looked put off to have to work at the bagel store. P.s. just moved into the area and am looking for a local bagel shop, this is NOT the place.

I wish I would have written a review about a year ago for poppyseed, because this was always our number one go to for egg sandwiches and bagels. The first stop before any road trip or city adventure! I have noticed quite a change in quality recently and sandwiches today are pretty slim and had hardly any egg. The bagels are still good, but our favorite sandwiches are missing that special something they once had.

    Inside the restaurant.

Poppy Seeds is HANDS DOWN my favorite bagel store of all time. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and the bagels have only gotten better. This place is a hole in the wall in a strip mall that is completely hidden. The inside is definitely a little grungy, but the management is working to change that. They've recently added an ATM machine, a mounted flatscreen TV (unnecessary if you ask me), more signs to show the variety of menu options have popped up recently as well. The staff is always friendly, even when I show up at 6:15 in the morning. The bagel selection is tremendous- they've got all sorts of flavors and varieties. I always order the same thing; an egg bagel with scallion cream cheese and a medium coffee little half and half and sugar. The egg sandwiches are always perfectly cooked to order, too. If you're looking to try something new here, order a bagel with bacon and cream cheese (just trust me on this one). Overall, Poppy Seeds will always be my hometown favorite breakfast spot.

Disgusting dry and oily. The darker parts are bits of dried potato. These home fries were not edible or salvageable

My favorite place was for bagels was by the DMV but their prices have been out of control. I'm willing to try anywhere. Brendels did not let down, a dense everything bagel (with salt) appropriately buttered. The show cases had tons of options as far as salads and bakery items. Neat organized and clean. There was an array of cooler beverages and coffee station so you can add to your coffee as you like. Service was fast and friendly. The new owners seemed to already know the neighborhood, and people by name. There was an extensive catering menu with hero options, priced fairly and equivalent to where we usually order. A note, really my personal preference, the flavored coffee was actually flavored coffee not just pumps. My favorite sandwich pictured was perfection (it also came with a salad or chips and a coffee), cold turkey on a hero with melted Swiss, bacon and Russian dressing. Enough to save for lunch the next day and still just as good. *note I asked for less meat.

I will say the bacon cheddar scallion cream cheese was a bit much and I should have known that given the name but truthfully the bagel was phenomenal. The kind of place you just don't find anywhere else, especially not back home in Virginia Beach. The inviting feel when you walk in, the regulars chatting up the staff, the air filled with the wonderful smells of fresh bacon, baked bagels, and savory spices. For my order, I went with a classic sesame bagel with cream cheese. It was absolutely fantastic. Soft on the inside, perfectly chewy, and the cream cheese was delicious. My dad was craving something a little different, so he got a BLT with chipotle mayo and avocado on toast. He raved about it the entire meal, saying it was one of the best BLTs he's ever had. It came with macaroni salad and a pickle (which I obviously stole from him). Even though this was my first time at Bagel Express, since I'm not local to Setauket, the whole experience was great. The quality, service, and authentic deli experience are definitely worth a stop. I'm already looking forward to coming back the next time I'm in town. If you're anywhere near East Setauket or just passing through, don't miss out on this spot!

They have an easy to use online system which I highly recommend because the inside of the store is a little chaotic. Even when you order online, you have to push your way to the front and get someone's attention for your order, because the pickup window for online and phone orders is the same as pickup for in store orders. Don't love the slightly high stress pickup process, but the sandwiches are totally worth it. Service is friendly enough, and they have a ton of lunch options in addition to bagels. GREAT bagels!

Today I spent close to $30 on 2 breakfast sandwiches and a bagel. One thing that stood out again is how the person who took my order took a cash payment, gave change back to another customer, and then went right back to handling the food my kids will eat. Last time this exact thing happened I overlooked it and my son ended up with diarrhea. Simple feedback: it would be nice to see a new set of gloves put on, which you have plenty of, before handling food. It takes 30 seconds. Now all I can think about while I'm trying to enjoy breakfast with my kids is how many hands have gone through the bills and coins handled and what germs I'm feeding my kids. Honest feedback: Don't handle food with gloves that have gone through money, God knows how many times. Ask yourselves, would you be okay if it were your kids/family?
