Our Maytag dryer stopped heating suddenly so I went to yelp to look for a repair person. Reached out to a few companies but decided to go with Golden Bay based on reviews. Scheduling was quick and easy via their website, and Hjalmar arrived as scheduled. He talked me through his thought process about what was going on with the dryer, and once we agreed on the fix he got to work and was able to finish the repair in under 2 hours. Just spoke with Hjalmar about our dryer which is evidently broken and has started baking our clothing versus just drying them. It's a Kenmore dryer and has been an absolute work horse! It's about 30 years old and I sadly realize it's now time to say goodbye and let it rest in peace. When I explained the problem to Hjalmar he really listened and explained what fixing it would probably involve. Long story short, he recommended we either find a good used dryer or just purchase a new one. I LOVE Kenmore products and was so disappointed when Sears went out of business since that ended the era of Kenmore appliances. So even though I wasn't able to use Hjalmar's experience and skill to fix something for us, I just wanted to leave this review to thank him for his honesty and advice. I had an issue with my Bosch refrigerator-freezer, and called up a few locations for diagnostics & repair availability. Golden Bay Appliances was one of the first calls, and convinced me quickly, as Hjalmar was super helpful already over phone: he provided some ideas on how to troubleshoot the issue myself, and also had availability to stop by for a diagnostics visit, if the "home remedies" don't resolve the issue. All in all the diagnostics visit was prompt, thorough, and Hjalmar was able to make the repair visit himself as soon as the part arrived. I've used Hjalmar's business three times now, and he has been super helpful at finding solutions to our problems. First, our dishwasher had stopped draining at the end of the cycle, and it turned out that the motherboard was fried. He thought that was unusual and recommended that we should call an electrician for the outlet that the dishwasher was connected to. We did based on his recommendation, and it turned out that the outlet was faulty and could have started a house fire easily. He saved our house from potentially burning down. Thank you! We've called him back for our faulty ice maker in our fridge, and our washing machine that also stopped draining. He has fixed all of our appliances within days at reasonable prices. Recently had Hjalmar come out and help quote for a Samsung french door refrigerator repair where he came out the same day, patiently diagnosed my problem for free, quoted me the exact cost the repair would cost and helped order the necessary parts the same day. Had the cost of the parts been cheaper from Samsung I prob would have looked at doing more repairs but made the decision to just fix the main issue I was having with my refrigerator door. Hjalmar was very knowledgeable about wine coolers and provided honest assessment of what were the possible causes of my cooling issue. I really appreciated that the first main fix suggested might only be a short term fix due to him knowing how the unit was constructed and that there may be corrosion in the cooling tubes which were not cost effective to service. However, since additional issues were discovered, we needed extra parts and the cost was going up much higher than the original cost of the dishwasher. He visited us multiple times during this entire process and was very accommodative. He refunded us the payment minus the inspection fee since the original issue was not addressed and took back the replacement part. I've used them several times for my dryer. The 1st time was to fix my 10+ year old dryer. However, it stopped working twice since then for various reasons (belt, motor). They never charged me for the 2nd or 3rd visit because of their warranty, even though he probably could have and cited a different reason for the issue unrelated to his 1st visit. Hjalmar responded to my request quote with a link to book an appointment based on their schedule and I found it very convenient compared to the other options. It was even more convenient that the time I can book was within two hours from the time I was even looking. This is important because originally the water dispenser on my refrigerator was not working after I replace the filter. Furthermore, it appeared to have a slow dripping week from where the filter was at. Hjalmar called me after I booked the time and walked me through a quick way to troubleshoot without him having to come do a diagnostic which would've been timely for him and costly for me. Ultimately, the water line between the filter and the dispenser had frozen, and all I needed to do was empty the freezer and turn off the fridge for 2-3 hours.
