I'm so fed up with this place. The ONLY reason why I come here is because of my mom. She says there's a large variety of veggies and what not. Which is true. But man this place ALWAYS has long lines. Especially in the beginning of the month when everyone gets their food stamps. And there's always only two cashiers working. Also, only one of them that's nice. Everyone else also has such a grumpy face. Smile a little. Stop being so mad all the time. And Put more cashiers up. Please. Service is so slow. And this place is a mess. Clean it up. Organize. Mop the floors. It's dirty. Also be wary of the snacks, check for expiration dates because some of them are expired. Also, what pushed me over the edge with this place is-- I tried to get money sent to a relative overseas and realized oh they have western union here. I'll just get it done here since I'm already here. Waited by the office and no one was even there. 10-15 mins later the guy shows up. And he's helping another gentleman in front of me. And 20 mins go past and the line behind me is getting longer. And these two ladies just cut everyone and I told the guy working inside like that's not fair. There's a long line why are you helping them first even though they cut. He didn't care. He helped them anyways. Apparently getting money orders means you don't have to wait in line like everyone else. At this point I'm already wait 40 mins. He took the time to stop helping the guy in front of us just to help these ladies. Organize your business. It's messy. And it doesn't look good. So I took my business somewhere else. I don't enjoy it as much as before but this place is close to me so I frequent this location for all my Asian specialty foods that I can't find in the usual supermarket. Huge old Asian market with lots of merchandise in big wide designated aisles. Space needs a major facelift and could be cleaner. But the clear focus of this market is the good value of its merchandise than its shopping ambiance. Lots of fresh Central Valley vegetable and fruit produce in pre-packaged bags. I was informed that shopping at this market is better at the beginning of the day where more selection. My friends and I stopped in for ingredients for our dinner. We were also looking for avocados which they didn't carry. I bought some Asian household utensils, and my friends bought veggies. Next time we'll come earlier and see if the store is better stocked with fresh produce or the place is cleaner and better organized. read more

Fresh produce from local farmers! It's so fresh u can see the dirt on the roots! But they are soooo very affordable here. Most bags of produce are sold for $1 a bag whereas the grocery stores in the bay will charge you by the pound. They have pre bagged veggies for you such as bags of cherry tomatoes, bittermelons, daikons, rubber band bunches of lemon grass, cilantro, green onions, dill, basil, mint and much much more here. The herbs are so very fresh! They have Laos sausage in the freezers here also (spicier home made sausage) and many items here that bayarea grocery stores don't have. Always manage to stop here when visiting the inlaws - it's worth stocking up on for a week eating food that is good for you! read more

In speaking with a lot of the farmers who sell their produce here, I find that this supermarket is very supportive of its own local community. Local farmers can sell almost any of produce and they work very hard to always bring fresh harvests (greens, herbs, etc) every morning, every single week. Other Asian stores like RN don't let farmers sell their produce and only want direct business with companies. They have no interest in supporting local farmers unfortunately. Golden Bowl is my go-to place for freshest and most affordable prices for produce. Catch the local farmer's new produce every morning around 8am! read more

Hi everyone, PLEASE let your family knows, this market always over charge people on their groceries. It is really hard to track by their recipe, no items names. I've only been there like totally 10 times but found out that I was over charge 4 times, and the others time I probably was but did not knows. I told them, and yeah drove back 20 mins to get few dollar back. Trust me, carefully add them up ONE time, and you'll see that you are being over charge of the items. It is that persistent. This place has very minimal selection. All meats are frozen and the produce wasn't very fresh. I bought a bag of Thai chili's which was fine, and a box of rice crackers but they were stale:( The staff was nice, and they didn't charge me 10 cents for a bag lol, but that was basically the only good thing here. This place has the dirtiest produce section in probably the whole state. I've been to my fair share of Asian grocery stores everywhere I visit, but this one takes the cake. Matter of fact, the whole building from floor to ceiling is fucking disgusting, they seriously should just rename this place, "Toilet Bowl". None of the produce looks like it's ever rinsed, and they are always out of plastic bags to store your selection in; Instead they expect you to just place it inside the dirty ass hand baskets. Yeah, they have things that may not be available in other Asian grocery stores, but still - it's unbelievable how this place can still find ways to get pass county inspections. Fucking "flies and gnats" (as noted in their most recent health inspection), still linger around the whole store as well on my recent visit. The workers here seriously don't give a damn about its appearance, and its apparent considering how this place has looked like this for the past few years. I dropped by to get my usual asian vegetables and discovered they have changed ownership. I did not need to ask anyone to confirm my suspicion; the vegetable variety and prices were a dead giveaway. The prices were a bit higher and there were limited selections of vegetables. While the layout is neater and brighter, I feel like I am in another big box store. Browsing around, I miss the farmer to grocery set up. The old store was rustic but I was supporting a lot of different local farmers who would deposit their produce early morning which was identified by their number on the bags or rubber band wrappers. There was a very basic refrigeration setup so most produce offered looked fresh because they were delivered in the morning. I will visit this place once they are completely renovated to give it another chance. read more

They have the best prices on vegetables that you can get anywhere. Even cheaper than the Bay Area or the LA Area. Why? That's because Fresno is a farming place, and farmers nearby sell a lot of produce here! I have no idea why it is rated as $$$, it is definitely $. They have a wide selection of extremely fresh vegetables (fresher than Food Maxx and Savemart, and much much fresher than Trader Joe's or Fresh and Easy). The vegetables are priced at $1 a bunch, and the roots and fruits have the prices written on them. Yes, as some reviewers noted there are some vegetables/fruits rotting, but just don't buy them (most often the ones rotting are ones in bags). I mean it's pretty easy/obvious. Well I guess it could bother some people, but when I see that aisle piled high with so many leafy greens I just get so happy! The lines are usually pretty fast. Lots of fresh herbs here! For cheap! They have large bags of cherry tomatoes for $1 each!!! One little tiny basket in the supermarket costs a few bucks! The bags are seriously very large. A list of some of my favorite things that they sell: FRESH shitake mushrooms, enoki, some other mushrooms, dou miao, ong chony/tong choy/ kong xin cai, watercress, squash blossoms, gai lan/ chinese broccoli, choy sum, cherry tomatoes, a bunch of other veggies that I don't know about.., leek, spring onion, lettuce, eggplant, zuchhini, daikon, mo gua, xi gua/loofah squash. One last note: They just have whatever the farmers bring them, so they don't always have everything, and of course some food availability depends on the season (ex: dou miao, tong choy). read more

If anyone was wondering how markets is south east asian is like, well come here and you will get a hold of it. Its very disorganized, dirty and people who comes here are also mostly rude and poorly socialized. The best thing why I would travel to such a ghetto market is for the goods!. They do carry very good asian grocery inventory perfect for the south east asian cooking of thai, malaysian, chinese, vietnamese and laotian. Lemongrass are always super fresh here, and so are their thai basil and other asian vegetables. Prices is very competitive. read more

Such an unfortunate experience I had today at this establishment. I came in to buy some items and when the lady rang up my first item, the price that came up was not what was priced at the freezer area. We told the lady that the price does not match so she walks over and my husband showed her the area where the item was. There was a whole section of it priced at $2.19 and on the register was coming up $4.09. She proceeded to tell us to wait and she just started to ring up the person next to us . We asked her, "what are we waiting for?" And she said wait, wait for the manager". We were standing there waiting and a man comes up and my husband follows him to show him the price. My husband tells me that he told him oh that's not the right price and he wouldn't price match it even though they put the wrong price on it. My husband told him he was going to report them to the BBB because the sheer unprofessionalism and manner of how the experience was. The manager proceeded to tell my husband go ahead and report to better business bureau, if you don't want to buy go ahead and leave. I suggest they recheck all their prices to ensure that their customers will not have to experience this. The only reason why I gave 2 stars is because they carry vegetables that some other local asian markets do not. read more

Golden Bowl - Meatballs that were priced $2.19 but rang up $4.09 - International Grocery Near Me - Fresno, California

I'm tempted to downgrade Golden Bowl to a two or even one star rating. Each time I go grocery shopping here, the cashiers seem to annoy me even more every time. I could care less about them not saying a word to me when it's my turn to pay, but what annoys me the most about this place is the fact that they [the cashiers] just "throw" your groceries to the side after they put in the price. I spend a good few minutes picking every bundle of yu choy, bag of ponkan, or whatever the hell I'm buying just to make sure the produce I picked are not missing too many leaves or are not beaten up. Now I know it's pretty useless doing so. I'm not expecting world class service, but damn, it's incredibly irritating. There are, however, a few positive aspects about this place. It has plenty of Southeast Asian vegetables and fruits, many of them cheaper compared to other supermarkets. The fruits are generally in good condition, but occasionally, you'll get a bag of, say oranges, and one or two will be a bit dark or slightly beat. There are a variety of frozen and dried ingredients that are typically hard to find at places like R-N Supermarket, TC Market, Asia One Market, etc.; some "exotic" items could also be found here, including frog legs, crickets, and whole fish roe (frozen). Near the vegetables and fruits section, theres a small shelf with baked goods they sell for out of town bakeries. Just make sure you check the expiration date. There are a few American, Mexican, and Indian products but unless you really look for them, the vast majority of the products you pass by are Asian. I recommend shopping here early so you can choose the nicer produce before others put their hands all over them. Also, the parking can be a PITA, especially on pay days. I've been going here for years for the great prices, variety of produce/food, and it's nearby whereas most Asian grocery stores are across the city for me. They also have a free rewards program that you can sign up for. I believe you receive a certain credit amount to spend once you hit $1000. (Purchasing rice does not account towards your spending. I am also not aware if the points have an expiration date.) Besides these benefits of the store, there really needs to be improvements. CLEANLINESS: In my opinion, the store is dirty. I took a good look at the floors today and it was honestly filthy especially at the cash register area. If Fresno had cleanliness ratings as in LA, this store would not have a good rating in my opinion. LOCATION: The store have the occasional beggars near the entrance and following you in the parking lot. This man would continually knock on our windows and not let my mom and I drive off by blocking our way. My mom eventually gave him some coins before he approached a couple walking by. It was honestly disturbing and not the first time something similar has happen with this particular man. There is the occasional church affiliate asking for donations and other less creepy beggars who I don't mind. Golden Bowl needs to have security present and/or signs pertaining to "no loitering." PARKING: The parking is also crowded with barely visible parking lines. There's no direction in which cars come and go in the larger parking area. This leads to cars squeezing to get by one another. PRICE LABELS: The store needs to label every item or at least have better indication of the prices. A good sturdy sign would help. AISLES/CASH REGISTER AREA: The aisles are cramps and you wouldn't dare go through if you saw someone in the aisle with a cart. It's already difficult having two individuals on opposite ends to cross carrying a basket. Maybe they need to have higher shelves or expand the store. The register area can get crowded with no direction in where the line starts. Sometimes, there is barely any room to place your baskets. The store also needs to get smaller plastic bags. I've purchased small items before and received this large bag which is a waste in my opinion. CUSTOMER SERVICE: What customer service? lol besides the typical bagging the items. The ladies at the cash registers are occasionally chatting with one another while they bag your purchases. I've seen them yell across to each other asking who is where and such. Don't get me wrong...the ladies do have great service at times. Also, like other Asian stores, there is always the nice man to help row and carry the large rice bag into your car. Would I still go back to Golden Bowl? Yes, when I'm too lazy to drive to other Asian grocery stores and need some particular produce. Although new Asian stores are popping up nearby so I would probably not go there as much. read more

Check and double check what you are buying, items are usually stocked incorrectly and out of order, with stuff piled everywhere. Bottom line- the best selection of various foods and spices from the far east with rock bottom pricing. I love Golden Bowl. They have all the veggies and herbs, fresh and fragrant and best prices in town. Bunches of sage, green onions etc cost $1 or $2! So what if there is no huge parking lot or perfumed restroom! Do we really want them to put money into that and have the grocery prices raised to cover the cost? If your focus is on fancy restrooms and huge parking lots stick with the usual grocery chains and pay through the nose for produce that is not even half as fresh! read more

This place has been my go to for all asian grocery needs and fresh local vegetables. The veggies are so fresh in the morning I can literally smell the freshness. I support this store for supporting our local farmers. Snacks and drinks are easy to grab. Has a good selection of vegetables. But the inside can be very messy with boxes and carts everywhere. Some of the aisles are organized, but most are not. I can't compare the Golden Bowl Supermarket to other Asian markets in Fresno, but this Hmong market is absolutely fascinating. Yes, the lines were long and slow and the place isn't spotless. On the other hand, the fresh produce section is astounding. It's huge and you'll find a range of Asian vegetables. Virtually all the Hmong shoppers were buying several kinds of leafy green vines. There's everything from kitchen supplies to condiments to canned Asian fruits and vegetables. My main impulse buy was a beautiful bamboo cutting board for $4. I restrained myself from buying a Lao-style woven rattan steamer for sticky rice! The market is basically a window on the Fresno immigrant community and it's fantastic. read more
