I wish I could say something smashing about the GCR but there isn't much I can add other than, it's your typical Asian/American Cuisine. My little ladies loved the egg drop soup and I honestly thought that was the tastiest part of our meal and we ordered quite a bit of food. This place has tasty Chinese food. Nothing special, but tasty. It's carry out only. Expect long wait times. If you put your order in, during busy hours expect at least 45 to 60 min. I put in an online order in, waited 30 min before I went to pick up my order. When I got to the place it took about another 20 min to get my order. Even cashing out takes forever. The cashier is nice but super slow and doesn't really seem like he knows what's going on. But the food is reasonably priced & huge portions. If you have patience for long wait times then give it a go. read more

The food is not good at all. We got sesame chicken, orange chicken, chicken fried rice, crab Rangoon's, those all were extremely disappointing. The sesame chicken was soggy and dry. I placed a carry out order and my food was ready in a timely fashion. I like that they also accept Apple Pay, which is quite convenient. The food was pretty good. If you want plastic ware, you will have to request it because mine was not included in the bag. There is no sit-down dining. That area has been sectioned off to insulate the staff from COVID. Beef pepper fry- my heart goes out to the Cattle breeder and the poor cow's family, it did not stand a chance to be great once it entered the restaurant and especially the wok there. Very classic, authentic Chinese food. They only offer carryout, but the service was quick. We had the sweet and sour chicken dinner along with the vegetable egg foo young. These were the biggest pieces of egg foo young I've ever had. Everything was very tasty. I will go back. read more

This review is about 45 years late. Yelp, the internet and many things didn't exist in 1976 but guess what did? That's right, Golden City! This is where our family gained a fondness for egg foo young and fried rice. It was a treat going here about twice a year. People didn't eat out as often as they do now. I just happen to be checking out the old neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised that Golden City remains. It's a gem. Maybe get a Manhattan if they still have a bar and give your kid the cherry and watch him pucker up - that happened to me. I fell for the 'do you want my cherry?' every time. Based up reviews, I thought I would give it a try. I found it ok. The servings were very large, but the breaded items were a little soggy and the Hot and Sour soup was, well...weird. It was very hot, but its was a gelatinous mess. I use that as a barometer of places, and I would rate it as a 1.5 and the rest as a 3.5. This is my go-to for Chinese food. They are great for eating in or grabbing carry out. Since they gave the outside a much needed makeover they have gotten busy, so plan on about a 25-30 minute wait for carry out during dinner hours. The service is fantastic and very personable. There is nothing I've tried here that hasn't been delicious. I love the chicken fried rice especially since it doesn't come with peas and instead bean sprouts. The almond boneless chicken is probably my favorite, but I often go with the sesame, sweet and sour or lemon chicken also. Combos come with fried rice, an egg roll and soup. I love the egg drop, but the hot and sour is also pretty good. If you're on the fence I would say go for it! read more

I completely forgot Young's is closed on Monday-Creeps! Kidding. I wanted Chinese, hit my Yelp app and saw Eric P's review. It was either go on his recommendation or go to the Chinese place in the mall at Campbell and 12. I've never actually seen anyone in that place...Maybe a mafia front? Its one bad joke after another night apparently. Anyway! Although I thought the fried rice was just ok, I'm in 100% agreement on the great service, I wasn't even in the door and the server was waiting to help me. She wasn't pushy just really attentive and somewhat quiet. Most of the dinner combinations are 7.95 for the standard eggroll, rice, and entree. I was really hoping will power would kick in and I'd have something healthy with just a hint of MSG. The sweet and sour chicken however was my way of testing the grounds and trying to shave another year off. I feel like absolute hell right now because it was great and I ate way too much. This restaurant has been in the neighborhood for many years. It's plain front with no windows was kind of a turn off. My wife noticed that they were remodeling, so we decided to go in and try the menu. They put windows in front and are sprucing up the whole business. I can't wait to see what it looks like when they're done. Now, to the food. As we walked in, a customer said, "They have the best hot and sour soup in Michigan". Now that's a great enticement. I have to have it now! My wife got the Lemon Chicken and I ordered the Mandarin Delight. With the dinner came soup and an egg roll, so of course we both had to order the hot and sour soup. Staff was on top of everything and made sure we were satisfied. I asked for a carry out menu as we were leaving. I can't say enough great things about this place! Super generous portions (I can usually get at least 3 meals out of 1 dinner entree) and the veggies are amazing! Perfectly steamed veggies bring me joy, at least until my hubby stinks up the house so badly even the dogs hide... The only complaint I have would be the jerks that double park out front, but there's nothing to be done about entitled narcissistic a$$hats "just running in really quick" for a 45-minute dinner with friends (aka other narcissistic a$$hats).
