The freshest, most delicious fish of any fast food fish I've ever been to, and the staff is always very polite fresh food

Captain D's has become a Sunday afternoon carry-out staple for when my wife or I decide that we're too lazy to cook or dress up and go out. This weekend we brought home 2 Supreme Sampler plates. It was loaded with 2 pieces of fish, 2 chicken planks, 6 fried shrimp, 2 hush puppies and 2 sides - we both had slaw and we shared fries and okra. Plenty of deep fried goodness to save for a late night snack also. Besides the overall value and addictive flavor combinations, I love the handful of "crispies" that layer the bottom of the basket - sad to admit but there's nothing better than crunching on a handful of deep fried batter bits. And don't forget the sauce packets - tartar sauce, honey mustard, cocktail sauce, Captain D's dipping sauce, malt vinegar, ketchup, lemon... It's a copious cornucopia of condiments. With 6 items for dipping and 6 dipping options, thats a minimum of 36 different flavor combinations on one platter. Isn't life grand! At the risk of losing any foodie credibility that I've built up over the decades, I'm giving this highly caloric fast-food chain 5 stars for being there for me on those lazy Sunday afternoons - never once have I ever said - "we should have went somewhere else" after bringing home the Captain. read more

Food fresh and hot. I wouldn't recommend the chicken strips but the seafood is okay but would've been better if not for all the batter. The coleslaw was good but not cold being inside the container with the hot food. read more

Impressed by my visit to another location on another side of town, I stopped by for a quick lunch. The manager of the store greeted me very quickly. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, and she was quick to offer me suggestions. I ordered a 2-piece fish dinner. It comes with 2 sides; the drink costs extra. The total for the dinner and a small soft drink came to just over $12. I was given a large drink cup. The food was delivered quickly: it was hot and fresh. The dining room shows its age, but it is kept pretty clean. Restrooms were acceptable. Compared with similar fast food seafood, I think you should expect a satisfactory experience here. read more

I happened upon Captain D's at the behest of family. This struck me as the equivalent of Long John Silvers. Fortunately it's not. Quite. The exterior has a rundown appearance and due to the covid we were limited to the drive through. No problem. The service was efficient and polite. We got our food quickly and were thanked driving away. A small thing but sometimes it's the small things that matter. The food was actually tasty. Not overly greasy and I really enjoyed the hush puppies. In fact, no one complained in our party of four. So if you're looking for quick seafood and don't mind frozen to fryer, Captain D's is a good choice. read more

Well well well. This location is very raggedy. The employees are not friendly and they invariably forget to put the sauce I asked for in the bag. Food is room temp 50% of the time. Went today with my kiddo because its thursday and they have .99 cent kids meals, and guess what? They killed the promotion. After years. This location is independently owned and the owner apparently was tired of saving hard working kansas city families $3. Its indicative of how tight fisted he is. Had a really bad experience. I ordered the spicy breaded 3 piece fish. When I picked one up, it seemed strangely heavy. On the first bite, I knew why. It was unbelievably grease soaked. It had either been setting in grease or was cooked in oil at too low of a temperature. Out of 3 pieces, I could only get down one and a half pieces. It's an hour later and I still have a greasy feeling in my mouth. I've eaten there before and the fish have never been greasy like that before. I'll probably give them one more try, but their management should look into this. read more

Hmm. The outside of this building accurately reflects the quality of the service you'll find inside. It's kinda run down and in need of some renovating. I placed my order to the very unenthusiastic cashier over the intercom who gave me only slight attitude. After placing my order I pulled forward to pay but he was reluctant to tear himself away from his phone long enough to do his job. I understand if your job is boring but at least pretend like you're trying to work. What's even more interesting is that there was somebody who looked like a manager standing right behind him. He handed me my food and drink and I drove away. I would have asked him if that was everything except he was busy talking to the next customer as he handed me my food. Come to find he did not put the sauce that I requested in my bag. Cmon guy, just put every damn thing in the bag so I can go! He didn't even give me a receipt so I didn't get his name otherwise I would complain to corporate probably. So if you ever come to this captain D's in seeing African American guy with some hair on his chin, be prepared for a less than Pleasant experience. read more

The great & best part was the food was delicious fresh hot!!!! the battered fish was just a tad bit on the salty side but not too bad & when you order fries or double fries they could actually put more than a few in the box they were a little skimpy on those. The Hours are NOT REAL you definitely need to get there no later than 8:45pm as we arrived at 9 pm & were told " we closed 10 minutes ago hun" so they pretty much close when they want or feel slow. A younger white female employee was not very friendly as if she hated her job very unprofessional and unfriendly when we asked for additional tarter sauce she SNAPPED & responded "I've already put some in the bag"!!!! Ma'am we have 3 - four piece fish orders 1 small bowl of tarter sauce is not enough! If they were to remove some salt from their batter, adjust their hours & close at 10pm as stated & have a more nicer staff they would receive 5 stars most definitely! read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside but is nice and clean on the inside. The few times we come here is always a good experience and the food is fresh and yummy. The deals are usually what brings us in and this time around we tried the full meal deal. For $4.99 this was a good deal. Two hush puppies plus two sides, six butterflied shrimp and your choice of three different kinds of fish. Everything was fresh and hot. My wife especially likes the extra "crunchies" they add to the plate. The only real downsides is that the sides were a little small and when my wife washed her hands, the soap in the ladies room had a rather "manly" scent to it that kind of threw her off. Other then that, I would recommend for a quick meal when you are in the mood for some fried fish for a cheaper price! read more

At first glance it always looks like this location is closed because the parking lot is empty, but they might not be doing indoor dining yet because of covid. The drive-thru is very slow (only 2 people working maybe, a cook and a cashier?) BUT the food is fantastic every time. We always get a seafood platter to share - fish, shrimp, crab, hush puppies, coleslaw and corn. More than enough for 2 people so a great deal and always a great meal! Stopped in here today before work to get me some fish ! I have always loved captain Ds fish ! I was greeted with two ladies at the window that were so kind and very helpful, I love to dip my fish in ketchup and malted vinegar & she said I can put that in a cup for you , I didn't even ask she went out of her way to make things so much easier for me and also told me if I want to buy the malted vinegar cause I told her how much we go through it at home , so I bought a jar there as well plus she fixed me up with a cup full for the fish I bought and I also ordered okra and they have the best tasting okra around too ! The fish was hot and so delicious and so was the okra of course ! I also went a couple weeks ago and my experience then was awesome! It's Very nice to have such great service , it makes things even better ! We miss our captain Ds closer to our home but that's ok I'm going to keep coming back to this one ! Food is great, it's the staff that majorly sucks. They have a sign that says "Save time, skip the line" and order online. So I did. I scheduled to pick up at 6 pm but when I got there they told me they were backed up on the drive thru line so I would have to wait. I waited 30 minutes and they told me the same thing. I told them to cancel my order and give me a refund. They agreed. Two days later I notice they had not issued the refund so I called and spoke to the manager. She said she would contact the main office for a refund. Here it is five days later and still no refund. Next stop, head office. And they have lost my business. Too bad. I don't rate chain restaurants often, but I wanted to do it in this case. Simply, I have a poor memory at times and don't want to repeat the visit! Up until yesterday, I was a Captain D's virgin. A friend of mine was in town and decided he wanted to come here. The parking lot was empty and I felt in my gut, that isn't a good sign. So, we went on in and they had a simple menu with mostly fried food. Whenever I've heard someone eating here, they ate the fried food, so I figured I'd go with their specialty. I went for the coconut shrimp, battered fish, corn on the cob, and steamed broccoli. The staff took the order quickly and said he'd bring it out to our table. The prices were decent. I got the food and it all looked like someone bought it out of the freezer isle at a supermarket, cooked it up, and left it under the warmer for hours. The corn on the cob was mushy, wet, and somewhat bland. The broccoli was also mushy and was also on the bland side. The fish tasted like flavorless batter. The shrimp tasted a little like coconut, but also wasn't too good. The portion sizes (except for the shrimp) were larger than I expected. The tartar sauce was 99% mayo and didn't taste anything like tartar sauce I've ever had before. The booths are comfortable and good size. However, the staff put a "watch out this is wet" sign in the middle of the entrance to the restroom. I saw people almost trip trying to go around the sign as it was blocking 1/3 of the entrance. Not smart! Can you say trip and fall suit? The staff was quite friendly and quick and that was it's saving grace from becoming a 1 star review. However, I have no plans to return. They had given me coupons on the way in and on the way out, I left them behind along with my taste buds. read more

The service we received was as very poor. Especially by manager Jason Zimmerman. He was very rude. I should have taken his advice and i should have left but I was hungry for fish and chips. The food was not good and cold. I will make a better choice next time and choose a different restaurant. read more

Much better than Long John Silvers in my opinion. For my first time here I'm pretty impressed. The hush puppies could be fried a little longer so they're not so soft, but that's the only reason I can't give it an outright 5. I'll be going back here for sure! read more

The light skin lady in the drive thru, seemed like she was the manger, but she almost cursed me out, having the worst attitude because she messed up on giving me back the rest of my change when using a 3-pc dinner for a $ 9.49 coupon. I had gone thru the drive-thru and this is the second time where I didn't get the rest of my change from this place and had to park my car to go back in. Additionally rushes you to order. I do not recommend this place if you seek good customer service, even though the food tasted and was cooked good. read more
