Every so often you just have to hit up a large buffet and that's what I did today for lunch. It had been eight years since I had been to the Golden Corral. This buffet is much larger and busier than the Asian Buffet in town. It is well managed, clean, and orderly. The prices are very reasonable. But, at the end of the day it is a buffet and you are not going to come away thinking you just had a fine dining experience. As before, most of the food I sampled would be in the "C" to "B-" range regarding flavor and quality with some items in the poor range. Nothing was real good or outstanding as you would expect. I found the meatloaf, the popcorn shrimp and sauce, the roasted potatoes, the hash browns, the fried chicken and the teriyaki chicken to be fairly good. The dinner rolls were mediocre as were the breakfast sausages and the onion rings. The pizza had a decent enough sauce but the crust resembled cardboard. The spaghetti was mediocre and the marinara sauce not so good. The fries and hush puppies were outright poor. The service was pleasant and efficient, The young women were doing a nice job of timely clearing tables and assisting people. I left feeling full, but not really satisfied with the overall dining experience. I left the restaurant not being sure I wanted to repeat the adventure! Rate the dining experience about THREE AND A QUARTER STARS. Ok for a large buffet but not the experience we look for when dining out. It of course all depends upon what you're after. If you just want to "pork out" for a reasonable price the Golden Corral is an option. read more

As we were casually leaving the restaurant, we stopped at 1 of the animal machine. And we were approached by the general manager, he accused us of stealing food and we had to pay for it? He stated that someone saw us putting food in baggies. When in reality, the baggies where cotton candy that I did not finish. So I took it with me, and my 76 year old mother put the roll that she did not finish in the baggy of my cotton candy. He persisted to say that I had food in my purse when I opened my purse and showed him that there were no other baggies with food in it. I felt humiliated disgraced and not even an apology from him. We normally eat at Golden Corral, at least 3 to 4 times a month. Not any more that's for dam sure. for me this is so humilium, so disrespecting. Tomorrow I will take them 3 dollars for taking the cotton candy and the dinner roll cuz I am an honest person that should not have been treated like a criminal. Always look for Big Trucks parked near by! Not a place for a young couple wanting a memorable meal but sadly not much competition in the buffet world nowadays leads to the cheapest food often reserved and proper food temps are something consumers need to be aware of. Holy cow. A friend recommended this as a good salad bar. I've been one other time and was not impressed with the food, but I thought well maybe for a salad bar. Mistake. There were three types of lettuce and one was mostly brown, some toppings like mushrooms weren't small enough for salads, cheese was completely tasteless, and my dressing the same. I also got a cup of chicken noodle soup that had absolutely no flavor. Throw a bouillon cube in there for heaven sake. My hubby got way overcooked, liver and onions, actually it looked like shoe leather, and apparently tasted the same. He thought the meatloaf was OK, and the fried chicken. Desserts were quite unremarkable as well in fact, the pumpkin pie was completely dried out. I tried flan which I've never had so I'm not really sure how it's supposed to taste, but it was kinda tasty. Our server was quite busy and very friendly. The clientele reminded me of Walmart. Of all the times we went there only once did a waitress refill my drink, even if it was sitting right by my husband's empty. The manager will not guarantee refills and does charge extra for a larger glass. The food is usually OK. But you have to watch for where children put their hands in and around the food. Recently stopped for lunch at an El Paso place on the way out to see the recent solar eclipse and at the one in las cruces on the way back. For my money it's a solid well balanced meal with plenty of options. Salads, meats, veges, and desserts. Servers are always wonderful. Love the grilled meats! Busy and full of families. read more

Parking lot has lots of parking and is well lit. This is the first Golden Corral I've been to where you get a cup and get your own drink (initial drink, staff refills for you). I'll cover the staff first. Everyone is very friendly, and attentive. Our table was cleared quickly, refills were offered before drinks were empty. The overall impression of the staff is excellent! The buffet? Fresh, clean, and tasty!!! Also they had a great selection. I tried quite a few different dishes and all but a few were great. So why only 4 stars? One dish I mentioned that wasn't great was the chicken wings. It still had some pink to it. Obviously that can be a big deal. Everything else was cooked perfectly. The peanut butter pie was not to my liking, at all. However, it was great that the waitress asked if I would like a cup of coffee with my dessert. Overall, I highly recommend coming here. Friendly staff, efficient, and a very clean appearance throughout. If it seems like I'm raving about this place, I am. It's a great feeling to walk into any establishment where everyone feels welcome and it's apparent that the people here take pride in what they do. read more

I heard that this is the only and worst Golden Corral in Las Cruces. :( My friend said that she liked the former location in Las Cruces a lot better. We came here on a Saturday evening for dinner. Being from out of town, I expected a crazy crowded and "blah" buffet and I didn't want to go, but the hubby dragged me here and I'm glad he did. Though there was a line when we arrived, the place wasn't very packed. The prices were very reasonable and our toddlers ate for free because kids 3 and under are free. The server was very attentive and kind. All the food was hot and fresh! All the stations were clean, and there was a huge variety. The rolls were fluffy and delicious! I am not a huge bread person, but I stole one off the hubby's plate and I ate the entire roll and wished I had gotten another one before being too stuffed. The pot roast was so moist and so flavorful. There were so many other delicious items but I can't remember what they were called. I thought the dessert station might be very good but it was! They had ice cream with several toppings, jello, and a variety of baked goods. The brownie was so moist and delicious!!!! This place is definitely worth checking out! Once this location opened up, the Telshor Blvd. location closed. This is important since that means the staff and management came from there. I was very unimpressed with the food and service from the last location so I stayed away from the new one. Today, me and my wife didn't know where to eat so we though we'd try out. It's been about a year since we went to Golden Corral at the last location so maybe things got better. In short, it hasn't. Keep in mind that I went here on a Tuesday at 8:30 PM, an hour and a half before closing. Not exactly the restaurant's prime time but that's not a valid reason. The cost is about $15 per person. No military discount is available. Starting with getting our glass for a drink, I found dirty cups that the dishwasher didn't completely clean. I can't stress this enough: check your cups, plates, and silverware. I found multiples of each dirty. The restaurant was very much dead at this time, with only a handful of people. The staff was never rude but had that look and attitude that it's was time to check out and didn't seem to care. I picked a booth that looked clean but the tables around it and the floor were rather dirty. I think having more staff working on cleaning the dining areas would be helpful. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, getting our drinks in a timely manner. The ambient music could only slightly be heard over the sound of rushing fans from the serving area. The food looked stale. I'm not sure how long everything had been sitting out but it seemed like they didn't care to rotate out old looking food at this time of night. My wife noted that there wasn't any soup out anymore at this time. I first went to get a grilled steak and the cook grabbed the precooked steak. I asked for medium rare and he gave me what look close enough to that without warming it up. He had that "deer in a headlights" look and seem like he was working on autopilot. It was lukewarm, tough, and had a look of it that it had been sitting out for some time. I ate only two bites before I became concerned that I was eating under-cooked steak that was not freshly cooked. Much of the side dishes were merely okay. Everything had a rather bland taste. The desert bar had bad, bruised strawberries for the chocolate fondue. To end, it's rather unfortunate that I paid full price for me and my wife for what was really substandard food. I should be getting the same food at opening as I would at closing or at least offer a late bird special price. I might excuse the state of the food if it's 20 minuets until closing but this was a full hour and a half. Aside from my steak (which was very bad), everything else was so "meh". I went on a Friday date night with my husband hoping to treat him to a great first time to the golden coral but left feeling as if we wasted our money... They don't have quality meat or even a cotton candy bar (as I remembered from my first time back in California). When I went, I truly expected steak cooked to your taste yet all they had was prime rib cuts as well as pot roast and other meat selection that were truly sub par. The worst part about our $35 dinner was the fact that ALL the meat, aside from roast and turkey, was severely over cooked! Honestly, I couldn't even stick my fork through the rib steak that was cut before my eyes from a (probably inexperienced) chef. Disgusting. It was gray and truly inedible. On top of that, their fried food gave me horrible stomach aches afterwards. Desert was OK.
