Tonight on a Friday evening I stopped in at the Asian Buffet. The restaurant was quiet and pleasant for dining, but I must add that I did notice some rips in the fabric of the booths. The service was very good and the cost most reasonable. I found the quality of the food, however, a bit below what I had previously experienced. Not that the food was bad, but a lot of the food was oily and some food (like the egg rolls) was tough and chewy. On my earlier visit I rated the dining experience at the Asian Buffet around three and thee quarters to four stars, but today I must drop the rating to about THREE AND A HALF STARS. Overall, I would say the food I experienced during this visit rated between a "C" and a "B-." Most of it was pretty mediocre, but...this is a large buffet afterall. When dining here you should not have great expectations. Not bad but not great either. read more

The food was cold. There were only chicken and pork dishes at lunchtime; no beef was to be found. The desserts were dry and stale. If I were grading this Chinese buffet I would give it a "D". Very disappointing. read more

We went out planning to get Mexican in the area but on a Friday night it just didn't work out so we went back to the hotel and walked next door to this place. It's bright and clean and we were seated right away. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have lots of options from appetizers to entrees, sushi, hibachi, and dessert. Everything was fine but to be honest many of the chicken dishes tasted pretty similar and none of it was particularly hot. It's a buffet so our expectations weren't very high but it turned out to be fairly decent. We finished our meal with some little ice cream cups and walked out full. We just ate here for dinner. All four of us loved it! Everything was fresh. You could see the steam coming off the food. The tables and floors were clean. The honey chicken was my favorite. I was here a little over a year ago and the prices haven't changed (about $14 for lunch and $17 for dinner), but that's the best I can say about this place. They have the same items at lunch and dinner so save yourself a few dollars and just eat at lunch, if you want to bother coming here at all. I came in for dinner and I was disappointed with almost everything I ate. The sushi I enjoyed last time was just "mushy" and didn't have any flavor. The chefs were really slow to put out more and it seemed like they just slapped everything together because most of it was a squished mess. The appetizers were either undercooked or fried to oblivion. It's a shame because these were some of the items I liked the most. I glanced at the chicken nugget tray and they looked like sand covered rocks. There was only one fish item, one beef item, and one pork item but they weren't refilled during the entire time I was here. The rest of the meat options were half a dozen varieties of chicken and like last time, they all tasted the same. The only difference was the amount of spiciness. Nobody refilled the salad bar so it was just a few scraps of soggy lettuce and sliced cucumber. I tried some of the cooked octopus and it was like chewing through an eraser. It also had a fishy odor so it was probably sitting at the counter for a while. The coconut shrimp was all batter and sauce and it tasted like spoiled mayonnaise. I was going to try the stir fry this time but like everything else, the trays weren't being refilled so there were only some dried out scraps of vegetables. I don't know why but just like last time, nobody in the restaurant went for any of the desserts at the counter or the frozen treats in the ice chest. The pacing of the food prep didn't change even when the restaurant started to fill up. I assumed that the lack of refilling the items was due to the staff preparing everything for a dinner rush, but I guess that wasn't the case. Maybe they were running out of stuff. I don't know but I won't be coming back for a third time. read more

For being a buffet it's really not too bad. I've ordered a few times and went in with low expectations but have been pleasantly surprised. They'll never get five stars but I will order again. My favorite is the seaweed salad but the sushi rolls are pretty decent. Again, it's a buffet place so don't expect gourmet but if you just want a quick meal, it hits the spot. read more

Nasty food, when I asked about all of the items for my vegetarian wife online menu, they said oh those items are served at lunch only. No differentiation prior the food was very sloppy. The stirfry guy was rude slow and disappeared with our food behind the wall for some reason and not just under the grill. I have been to this establishment a total of 4 times. I really liked it until the other night when I placed my usual to go order. First, I wanted fried rice instead of steamed. Before they did not charge but this particular night I was told that it would be an additional charge. I declined and asked for an additional patty of the egg foo young. They told me that they don't do that! WTH? So okay I told them I wanted my Teryiake Gravy and was told okay. I get to the establishment, paid for my order without checking because I have never had a problem. I drive home which isn't very close and my order is all messed up. I have the wrong gravy no steamed rice, so I call and the employee starts arguing with me and telling me I am the one who is wrong. WOW! I ask for the manager and she says she is the manager. I am so frustrated from arguing with her at this point. I say what are you going to do as I am a good customer. She tells me to bring back the food and they will refund me my money. I simply gave up because I was tired from a long day and did not feel like making another long trip. I ended up just throwing the food away. I am so disappointed that I will NEVER go there again! I will preface this review with the fact that I do not live in the Las Cruces area, I live near Los Angeles where Asian food of all kinds abounds. That out of the way, I can honestly say this was a surprisingly good Chinese/Asian Buffet experience. I say "surprisingly" because you never know what your going to get with Chinese Buffets and this is Las Cruces. The food was well presented, hot and flavorful. The selection of dishes was large and the sushi was good. The restaurant was well kept, clean and the lighting was appropriate for the setting. Service, seating and checkout were fast and friendly. The large waterfall feature inside the front door is a nice touch. No complaints about anything, and I'll be going back again while I'm in Las Cruces. We don't really like buffets, but this is the best Asian food we've encountered here. The Hibachi is the best! You choose your veggies, meats (chicken, shrimp, or beef), and have a choice of 2 noodles. Delish and freshly made. The egg drop soup is also good, and every week there are some new items. Today, pork chops Chinese style. And sesame seed coated nuts!! The seafood veggie dish today was particularly good. Great service. Senior discount keeps us coming back. read more

There was nothing on their buffet that made me go, "oh my goodness, I must come back here again and eat this amazing Chinese food". Spring rolls were tasteless, chicken dishes were oily and chewy, little shrimps were once frozen, deserts were store bought, crab rangoons were edible and it was clean and service was good. So it was average buffet fair. Hench 3 stars. They do have a fresh veggie section that they cook for you at the hibachi grill. I may try that next time. However, what keeps it from getting 2 stars was the sushi. They had a LOT of rolls and they were all fresh and delish. I can eat $15 worth of sushi! Easy. Pretty good selection to choose from. Most of what I tried I liked. 12.99 for lunch. Drinks other than water are an added cost, which is the situation at buffets in the area. In other parts of the country where buffets are, the drink is always included in the buffet price. The buffets here should be Prix Fixe. They're not. They would be if they included the drinks. The sushi was good, and the service was great. They have one food table set up for the Hibachi. I didn't try it, but I was told it was good by a patron. They also have an ice cream freezer with individual servings in it. Overall, the food tasted good and is appetizing. It was relatively busy during lunch, but there's plenty of seating. The people working the buffet do a good job of keeping the trays full and wait staff clears plates and fill drinks, and seems to be very efficient at it. Staff are friendly and quick. The buffet has a large selection of items and everything appeared to be fresh and at a good temperature. There is also a sushi bar that puts out a variety of tasty rolls and I was able to also get several pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi. All good. There is also a hibachi grill where you can combine your own ingredients and they will cook it for you. Last time, my review was a 3, but what they are doing now rates a 4. I have an official medical card signed by the ADA stating I cannot consume more than 4 ounces of food and that I should be charged the children's or senior rate or be subject to significant fines. My wife and I decided to try the Asian Buffet today for lunch. The restaurant started out as the Empire Buffet at a different location in town. When they moved to this location it was the Grand Buffet, and now it is the Asian Buffet (same owners? or new owners?). The buffet has a lot of items to choose from. Everything that we tried was good or pretty good. We both had the mental idea that this is a buffet, and both of us consider buffets as usually only OK. Went there last Tuesday on a fiewld trip with seniors from Alamogordo, Wel the lace was very clean and new,, servers were ok -friendly and attentive, prices were along with other buffets at $14.99 including drink, an added 15% gratuity was also added, ehh, normal now a days soo no big deall. As far as buffets go, this place is really good. It has a nice variety of mains, noodles, rice, desserts, fruit and salad. The sushi is definately a bonus as it's nearly as good as most stand-alone sushi places. While they have a hibachi grill, I didn't try it. The food turns over in a reasonable amount of time, so nothing gets old. Prices are reasonable too and the staff is prompt and polite. I definately recommend. read more
