Customer Service sucked. The cashier wasn't friendly & ringed us wrong, so the waitress came to our table & wasn't friendly & said we owed $1.61 for the 2 plastic cups & Premium Lemonade. When you're hungry and want to eat a lot and don't particularly care how good the food is, then Golden Corral fits the bill. The location on La Crosse Street in Rapid City, SD is no exception to that rule. This location always seems to be crowded, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. It offers senior citizen and military discounts. When this location does get crowded, they seem to have some difficulty cleaning up the tables after departing diners leave and that sometimes makes finding seating a minor issue. Additionally, on some weeknights they close off entire sections of the restaurant, forcing overcrowding in those sections that are open. The times I've seen these section closings; I've come to conclude that this location may be short-staffed. That in itself is NOT surprising when you consider the absolutely sh*tty wages paid by most employers in South Dakota, especially in service industry jobs. Some highlights: 1) The salad bar, 2) the soups, chili, makings for tacos, 3) their pot roast. The breakfast buffet is large and varied and a veritable bargain when compared to a diner or other sit-down restaurant where you order from a set menu and receive a set portion size that doesn't permit seconds. Just like dinner, the breakfast buffet can and does get crowded and more so on weekends. DESSERTS: This is where Golden Corral shines! This location does as well. The pies are great, the ice creams can be covered with a variety of toppings, and their desserts will be my downfall. The cost of the dinner buffet is justified by the desserts. Where does this Golden Corral fall short? In keeping certain high demand items re-filled; in not always ensuring that foods don't cook down to the very bottom of the serving pans and getting dried out, in keeping the carving stations for ham, turkey or their very low-quality steaks ready. Is this high-quality dining????? That would be a NO! Is it plentiful when you're hungry??? Yes. Is it worth what they charge? That depends on how hungry you are and what you select (and how much you shovel down your piehole). If you select a GC for your dinner, understand that this is high-volume cafeteria-style buffet food. Keep that in mind, lower your expectations and leave with a full belly. All of the above having been said, I've never been really disappointed, especially when I've been starving or on a really cold winter night when the restaurant is warm and the food hot, ready and waiting. read more

Better than expected Stopped in for lunch after another person i was traveling with mentioned it as an option. I reluctantly agreed, but it was actually pretty good. Much better than I expected. The place was clean. The service was very good. The food was hot and fresh. The fried chicken breasts that I started with were moist and flavorful. I sampled several other items that were also good. We used to have a GC Where we live but haven't in years. I really missed it apparently because given the chance I almost ate here twice. The time we did go we had great food including steak and BBQ pork and ribs. So many delicious options including slush puppies for dessert. The server was amazing always checking on us and clearing plates. The restaurant was fairly clean especially with how busy they were. We are full time RV travelers. It's been a few years since we tried a Golden Corral, and they were hit and miss in the past. This one is good. Table service was outstanding, all staff friendly. Things were kept clean at the serving stations. Food was good for a buffet. Recommend it. read more

We really enjoyed the friendly service and the easy in and out buffet. Quite honestly the food was very tasty, the bars were clean and well stock with hot fresh food. It is on the larger side of many Midwest buffets in my experience. It is great during the Sturgis Rally and very accommodating. I'll give it a strong 4.25 for groups, especially bikers. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This place was packed, and for absolutely no good reason. It was THE SKANKIEST, nastiest, most stomach-turning experience I have ever had. The food looked and tasted disgusting. The pizzas dough was undercooked, there was almost zero cheese on it, and it was super cold. I'm pretty sure the meatloaf wasn't even meat. The mashed potatoes tasted like play-doh. My fiancé asked for a rare steak, and was given well-done. I asked the waitress for a pop right after we sat down, and never got it. Instead, she stood against a wall in another room. I recommend the FDA to shut this place down, bring a health inspector in, do SOMETHING because this place is awful. read more

This was a wonderful buffet with plenty of hot well cooked items. They had precautions in place to alleviate Covid concerns. The food was wonderful. I ate mostly the grilled steak and other meaty options. They were all good. My wife mentioned some bland items, but overall a good experience. Our server was amazing. Wow. Just wow. I'm in my fifties and it's not often I go somewhere and am the youngest person there. But except for a couple of the employees, I was. I hadn't been to one of these places in years, and now I remember why. The last time, I was too young to drive so I had no choice. But I was in a bit of a hurry, and this one was conveniently located -- right in front of me where I happened to be parked at the time -- so I decided to give it a shot. I had occasion to eat here a couple of times this week while in Rapid City. Normally when I'm here, I am not traveling solo so am engaged in conversation while we eat. But on the most recent occasions, I was by myself and had the opportunity to observe the staff. What a great bunch of hardworking, enthusiastic folks! Don't waste your money. I paid almost $100 for 4 adults and 2 kids. What a waste. Service was horrible, no drink refills. My daughters both wanted med rare steaks, one for rare the other ended up with blue. My brisket wasn't cut right so it was tough and full of fat and grissel. Gross! Salad wasn't even great. Not sure how, it's salad. Chicken and potatoes were good but most was flavorless and it not cooked right. Rolls were yeasty and pies were cold. Ice cream machine didn't work and the lady was rude. When she scooped ice cream she asked rudely, what do you want. The girl rolled her eyes when I asked for a new spoon, she took mine. Omelet station SUCKED! D. (Husband said it's not polite to put her on blast using her full name) is as slow as molasses. She can't make anything to save her life. It required the pancake, cheeseburger, French toast chick to help her save someone's over easy eggs. Granted over easy is a little difficult but an omelet seriously took forever to get and super oily. -1 star! We went here while on vacation, we expected the food to be fresh and delicious but instead we paid $30 for barely cooked beef, still had raw pieces!!!, gross "cooked" fish, very stale and old pizzas, and tHats just from the food WE got. I refused to eat, so my plate was empty. The entire dinner selection was very gross, old food, not fresh, and some of it didn't look cooked properly. They handle Raw meat RIGHT next to cooked food.... they should have a separate fuNction just for meats. Away from any other cooked foods that simply sit next to it. Really gross. Didn't want to touch anything within that radius of their slapping of raw meat onto grills and pans. The desserts were the only " OK" things. But because it was dinner, I didn't get any. We decided to eat at Blaze pizza instead after eating some of that bad food. I'm so upset we didn't just go to blaze pizza to begin with. Please have a health inspector come do saftey tests on that food. Evaluate their placement of raw meats and how undercooked their meats are too. The prices are comparable to fast food and you can eat and be on your way in under 30 minutes. The staff at the Rapid City location are exceptially friendly. It is located right next to a Walmart parking lot a lot of locals use this as extra parking. The food is usually good I wouldn't advise any of the fish products. They have plenty of other choices. The best food can be found at the salad and fruit bars, pasta bar, grilled foods (cooked to your liking right in front of you) and the dessert and bread area. read more
