The rolls were hard as a rock. The mashed potatoes had no flavor and gravy was like brown water. The enchiladas looked like they'd been sitting there for a long time (even though we arrived around 4 pm) and were also cold. The salad bar was refreshing. Golden Corral, Sherman, TX Today, on Mother's Day, we ate at Golden Corral in Sherman, TX. When we arrived today, I think it was between 1-1:30pm. It was definitely more crowded today, than it usually is, but they had plenty of clean tables!!! Today, they had someone to seat us, but usually they just have you seat yourself. I am pretty sure that every one was on duty today. I think our server today was Anne. She was very attentive and kept our dirty plates cleared away. I really appreciated that. Anne was a very pleasant, kind lady, and she had a great attitude!!! There was just something delightful about Anne!!! As we were leaving, I saw crowds of people outside getting ready to go into Golden Corral. So, I guess I hadn't seen as many people as I thought!!! On Easter, we arrived a little later - between 3-4pm, I think!!! That's our usual arrival time! I enjoyed being there more on Easter, because it was less crowded and we didn't have to stand in line to get in the door, and I didn't have to stand in line to get my food!!! In case someone reading this review doesn't know, the food at Golden Corral is served buffet style!!! I love eating at buffets because I can pick and choose my food, and can get as much or as little as I want!!! Golden Corral always has a complete salad bar. It's huge!!! Sometimes, I get some salad, and sometimes I don't. They always have a full dessert bar, too!!! I don't usually visit the Dessert Bar. I prefer to skip dessert!!! But on Easter Sunday, I ate some really good desserts - Chocolate Cake, Peach Cobbler, and Red Velvet Cake. They were all delicious!!! Today, my daddy got Peach Cobbler, another dessert, and Lemon Pie. He ate them all, so I know that they were good!!! I didn't eat any dessert, today. Today, I ate Roast, Fried Popcorn Shrimp, a small piece of fish, and a small piece of steak. I noticed that they had both the regular size and the Popcorn Shrimp, and it was fresh and crispy!!! The fish was also hot & fresh, and had a nice, delicious coating. The steak was well cooked, and had a good flavor! The roast was the star of the day!!! It was just as wonderfully delicious today, as it usually is!!! The Roast was also wonderfully delicious on Easter Sunday!!! That's one of my favorite things to eat at Golden Corral. They had a lot of food choices today at Golden Corral. I say that because, it seemed as if they had a lot more food (meat) today than usual. Turkey, Roast Beef, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Pork Steak & Sausage, and even Chicken Fried Steak & Fried Chicken were just some of the other meat options besides the food that I have already mentioned. They also had Hush Puppies & Seafood Patties. They probably call the Seafood Patties something else, but I don't know the correct name. They had so much food on the main buffet (meats, gravies, sauces, bread, and veggies) today, that I simply can't tell you everything they had, but it was a tremendous amount of food!!! What I can tell you is that you can choose whatever kind of bread you want to eat: Corn Bread Muffins or Rolls to say the least!!! I don't usually eat the bread, but today, I got a roll. It was glistening and looked wonderfully delicious!!! And it was!!! Today, I also got some Fried Okra which could have been cooked more!!! It wasn't crispy. I looked for Corn on the Cob, but they had whole Kernel Corn instead, which I didn't eat. Today, they had Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, and Squash among many other veggies options. Daddy got the Broccoli, and Squash today!!! The Broccoli looked raw and bright green today, and you could tell that the squash hadn't been fully cooked either. It looked hard!!! Daddy had to use his steak knife to cut up the Broccoli into small pieces before he could eat it!!! Our biggest complaint about the food at Golden Corral is that they don't fully cook their vegetables!!! You know, most folks don't want hard vegetables!!! PLEASE Golden Corral, start cooking your veggies fully until they are soft, and tender!!! Especially, the Cabbage that you serve!! If we want hard veggies, we'll go eat Chinese Food!!! The ONLY thing that I don't like about the roast at Golden Corral is the Celery!!! Sometimes, the cooks adds lots of Celery in with the veggies being served with the roast. Celery doesn't belong in roast!!! PLEASE, quit putting Celery in your Roast, Golden Corral. PLEASE, Golden Corral, fix your Iced Tea!!! My daddy won't drink your Iced Tea because it's bitter!!! This is literally like the nicest GC I've been to and it's been YEARS since I've walked into one. Mostly because of past food service, bathrooms, and quality of food. The food was fair at the least. Luke warm. For the price you pay to eat here, you would expect more. The Bourban street chicken & the hamburger steak was awful. The pea salad was horrible. The cheddar biscuits were as hard as a hockey puck. The red velvet cake was dry, as was the carrot cake. The coconut pie, I just don't know. One of the worst meals I have had in a while. I won't make this mistake again. I do not recommend this place at all. After speaking to manager and getting no where, they waitress and manager started speaking in Spanish say ugly things and call me horrible names, which I let them know I understood what they were saying. The very best G.C. we have found in North Texas, including Dallas area. Exception: months ago they changed their catfish preparation and it went from great to awful. I checked back a month later it was still awful. A year later it good again, though no as great as before. Otherwise everything else has always, and still is, delicious. One other (minor) gripe: they went to smaller take-out boxes, which means more boxes and sacks when I get take-out, in my case 4-8 boxes and 2-3 sacks. But, again, the difference in taste between the Sherman G.C. and the ones from McKinney to Dallas is very noticeable and better. read more

Experience while I was living in Sherman Texas area. Salad bar had excellent choices. Our server had our drinks and table bussed as we allowed no pressure felt to leave quick as other buffets tend to do. Dessert is definitely another story as when my son and i were excitedly indulging our plates full of ice cream and colorful treats we see several dark, ugly colored cockroaches near the ice cream machine. That alone left no desire to return as I can only imagine what is back in the kitchen. Food is mediocre, salad has of areas improvement, and dessert is out of the question here . Look, I've been to my fair share of really awful GCs (Mesquite, I'm looking at you) but this one was actually very clean and the food, while not the fine dining of Rick's Chophouse or something, was very good. I usually loathe GC, but overall everything was fresh and tasty. The best part was the service: Lonnie, our server, was simply a rockstar. We decided to eat out on Thanksgiving this year instead of staying home to cook. When our family arrived here, the line was out the door! Surprisingly, we only stood there for about 5 minutes. It moved quick! Extremely satisfied. The only thing that we didn't like was the cramped seating. You could see the other customers rolling their eyes, and muttering under the breaths, as our waitress walked us to our table in the back. We had to squeeze past several tables. So rude, especially on Thanksgiving. The food was good, and overly stocked. I didn't like to visible pushing and glaring from the other customers in line. I almost told some old lady to STFU because she was glaring at me like I was going to scoop up all the guac and sour cream. I only took two scoops, yet she piled at least 5 scoops of turkey dressing on her plate. Greedy. I have no complaints about the quality of the food. It tasted great, and the cooks were constantly refilling the buffet. There was a long line for that chocolate fountain. Really?? And, of course a long line for the turkey and dressing. With that big a buffet your always going to get some food hot and some that has been sitting a while. Really for the price, not a bad deal and went away full. Well I'm sure everyone that has eaten here already knows that the food is mediocre at best. The salads are good and the deserts are good but pretty much everything else is bad except for the fried chicken. I believe the problem is there cook times they overcook everything and make way to much so the food sits and fresh cooked food doesn't come out often. The food lacks seasonings and almost all of the items are packaged or frozen. Overall the only good thing is it's cheap so just the salad and deserts are worth the cheap price. I'm not a big fan of buffet restaurant but I have had some real good ones in LasVegas. Now I know the Golden Coral is not on that caliber but they should at least prepare the food better. I like the food and the variety that Golden Corral offers. However, this particular location and restaurant needs to step up their cleanliness. I have eaten here several times over the last year, and EVERY time, the restroom was disgusting with a terrible odor. And at one particular visit, I found some food that should be maintained hot on the line closer to room temperature. (Maybe a warmer was out). Over all though, you can leave thoroughly stuffed for a reasonable price. Service has always been friendly and catered to our hungry baby (bringing hot water to warm up a bottle). read more

And I have three kids so of course we had to visit the bathroom. There was food on the floor in there, toilet paper, rust/corrosion on fixtures. There was also stuff spilled all over the dining room floor and tables. My son almost set his hand in a spilled drink mess on an empty table next to us.
