I have been to Golden Gate on two separate occasions each time I have back the chicken lo mein with hot and sour soup this past Tuesday I ordered (on accident )chow mein with hot sour soup and I received a call from Golden Gate asking if I meant to order this and if I did, they can keep it the same but if I didn't, they'll change it for me so I can get my typical order if that does not go to show how above and beyond they will go for their customers I don't know what is. Used to eat there regularly, when we lived there, but have not lived there or been to the r restaurant there in over 20. We occasionally go to Grand Prairie and happened to drive by. The lady upfront is always so sweet ! I drive all the way for Their hot & sour soup it is the best I've tasted in all of dfw they let me add $2 shrimp I love it. All though their steamed dumplings are just OK they should add strips of cabbage at the bottom of the plate to keep them from getting so soggy , they basically fell apart . Oh man, this is not good Chinese food at all, we ordered five different things, sweet and sour chicken, beef lo mein, orange chicken, Kung pao chicken, and Cashew chicken and all were pretty flavorless, the worst thing was the beef lo-mein, the beef had a very very weird gummy texture, the orange chicken was a bunch of tiny pieces of chicken that also had weird texture, the entire total was 71.00 and I def wish I would've gone to McDonald's because this was bad! read more

Worst Chinese food I have ever eaten.. The won tons in the soup tasted like the meat had spoiled, making the soup inedible. The egg rolls tasted pre breaded, with an uncooked doughy texture. The Lo Mein was extremely bland. I will never eat here again. read more

I have been coming here for over ten years and for my family and I it's our fav Chinese take out. The veggies are always fresh and they are not shady with the shrimp. The lunch portions are pretty big and dinner are ginormous. One dollar for extra shrimp will make a difference for the shrimp fried rice. read more

This restaurant used to be my "go to" spot when I was at DBU. I went tonight expecting to have the same experience I did while in college, I was mistaken. When I called and started to place my order I was told that the menu online is not accurate. At that point, I didn't know what to order and then felt rushed. I got to pick up my order and pay and I was NOT please with the dining space (yes I know it's a hole in the wall. Buy my would it kill them to sweep/mop!!?). When I went home and open my bag the chicken wings I ordered were bone dry and lacked flavor. The portion sizes are very good for their pricing. We have been using this restaurant for over 15 years and all has been good until last night. We ordered a typical dinner for delivery at about 6:00 pm and were told it would be about 45 minutes. I thought that was a little long but given the time I thought they might be really busy. When it got to be 7:15 pm I called back to see if they had forgotten my order and I was told that I was on the delivery and it should be here within 5 minutes or so. 10 minutes later my order showed up, cold and incomplete. I called back and told them to come back and cancel the order. They offered to complete the order in less than 15 minutes but by then it was too late. This is my family and I's go-to meal. The Chinese Fried Donuts are a MUSTTTTT. They'll last you for two days. (It's just as good if you pop them in the toaster oven.. Magical.) My favorite local chinese place has closed down recently so I've been on the hunt for another. And for me, this place is it. I love the crispy chicken and egg soup. Round two in Grand Prairie, and again I'm left with just a MEH!!! The initial draw for this restaraunt was two fold: 1 Its within walking distance from the current location where I am working, 2 There is a large sign outside which boldly states "Lunch Specials $3.95 and up - 37 entrees!!!" Upon entering I was pleasantly greeted by fantastic aromas. There were two ladies sitting at a table peeling some sort of vegetable which looked like edamame...and just throwing the peelings onto the table behind them. This made me a little worried. We sat down and looked at the menu, and much to our surprise...there was not a single freaking item on the lunch menu which was priced at $3.95! Everything was at least $5, hmmmm. So we call the waitress over to ask about the sign and she informs us this sign is about five years old and no one has taken the time to take it down. She then even goes as far as to say that there was only ever one item which was $3.95 and that's why the sign has the disclaimer "and up" printed next to the pricing. Tricky tricky! Seeing as we were already there, we decided to stay. I ordered the szechuan beef with egg drop soup, fried rice, and an egg roll. The soup was ok, fried rice ok, and egg roll slightly above average but really small...more like a spring roll. The szechuan beef was actually really tasty, my only complaint was that there was not enough beef in comparison to the amount of veggies. Overall though, the taste was great. My friend got the sesame chicken and said that it tasted like boneless bbq chicken wings from Chilis!!! She kept trying to add different condiments to the chicken to balance out the flavor, but nothing seemed to work. Despite this, she also completely finished her lunch. Overall, the use of deceptive pricing practices to lure in customers really irked me. Also, when my friend was paying for her lunch she was digging for change in her wallet and the cashier lady kept yelling "$5.90!" at her. I'm not sure why, but she did it like three or four times. I used to eat here years ago so I went back to revisit some of my favorite dishes. The staff is super nice, the food has changed considerably. One of my frequent dishes was Imperial Shrimp, one of their specialty items on the menu. It was delicious. Now, it not only looks like a completely different dish, it tastes completely different. Bought dinner from Golden Gate, as I was eating found a nice plump worm floating in the sauce. Immediately returned to Golden Gate for a refund, they tried to explain that it sometimes happens and would only honor the refund for uneaten food. In the process of doing the return they completely jacked up the refund. I will not order or consume food from this establishment again. read more

Bland. That is how I'd describe Golden Gate's food. I don't think I've ever had more bland food. I've ordered from here twice now since this is the only Chinese place I've found so far with an online menu that will deliver to us, but I really need to find someplace else in the west Grand Prairie/East Arlington area... Blech. Prices are reasonable and the delivery was right on time, but just no flavor/seasoning to anything, really. Sweet and sour chicken sauce is very vinegary, egg rolls mostly taste like whatever ground meat is in them... the online description for their Three Delicacies soup does NOT match reality (the menu here on Yelp says it has crabmeat, shrimp and scallops - nope! - chicken and pork(?) and lots of veggies). We started eating here 10 years ago. We loved it. It changed ownership and went downhill immediately. The young girls at the front register were rude and foul mouthed. We recently tried again. Must be under new management because the food was great, general tso chicken, mangolian beef, sesame chicken, pot stickers and hot and spicy soup are some of our most popular dishes. Here's the deal with golden gate, they have a menu with many many options for food, the thing is there are maybe only 10 things from this menu that are really REALLY good, they are the ones on the front side of the menu with the pictures. That being said, I have been a regular at this place for 2 decades because of the incredible taste of these 10 meals. They include hunan beef, spicy chicken, orange chicken, combination lo mein, and mixed vegetable, and the egg rolls. I have not tried better asian food yet. read more

Ordered veggie Kung pao and ended up only taking a few bites and throwing it all in the garbage. The sauce was not tasty what so ever. My stomach felt disgusted for a few hours after that. My husband had the LoMein and it was very pale looking and very bland with very little veggies (about 4 broccoli) it did not look very appealing. My mother had the chicken teriyaki and said the meat was very tough and the teriyaki sauce was very nasty that she didn't end up adding it to her meal after dipping a piece of chicken in it. And last, the egg drop soup smelt nasty and was not good, we trashed that as well. Would not even give any of this food to my dogs. I would never recommended this "food" anyone! Been going here for 20 years. Small corner, "hole in the wall", diner. Food is delicious! Ample amount is given for the small price you will pay for meal:-) Beef texture is real meat (not soggy like some Chinese fast food joints). I just ordered yesterday they forgot to give me my chicken wings that came with my order so I drove back to get it. I get home and started eating and EVERYTHING sucked! I walked in and one customer at the counter ordered 2 egg rolls and a coke, it took the girl behind the counter 10 minutes to complete this order because she kept taking phone orders instead of asking them to hold to complete this customers transactions and she kept running to the back and yelling and arguing with someone in the back. Im like what about my garlic beef and she goes HUH ? and im like THE LUNCH SPECIAL GARLIC BEEF I ORDERED ??? and I get an OH YEH. 25 minutes to place an order with one person ahead of me who was just getting egg rolls.
