The washing machines in our building were too small for what I needed to wash, so I decided to try Golden Gate Laundry, which is about three blocks away. The place is well kept and clean, and there are two, maybe three, different machine sizes in there, all in very good working shape. The best way to pay for the machines here is to use the PayRange app, which I did. Once installed, put some money in it, then locate the machine number and pay for it. Not a big deal, it just takes a few minutes to download and set up the app. Anyhow, I was in and out of there in less than 45 minutes. read more

Machines are constantly broken. When they're not completely broken they're so poorly maintained that they leave soap scum residue on all your clothes. Unhoused people constantly in and out stealing clothes or putting their dirty clothes in with yours. A truly unpleasant experience and sadly one of the only options for people that live nearby. I had to spend 15 dollars just washing one load of laundry because the machines wouldn't properly rinse my clothes. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Giving this place stars because it's generally empty the times I've gone. However the floors are littered with trash and the dryers don't work! I know this is a laundromat and not some fancy restaurant but they have been a life saver whenever I have to wash something huge (e.g., duvet, comforter, large blanket, etc.) or the machine in my building is out of service. Some of the machines even let you pay with an app which can really come in handy. And, a coffee place next door and an ATM machine inside, I really felt this place should be at a slightly higher mark! I think this is a pretty good wash house considering there is an ATM inside along with a coin dispenser. A few blocks up the machines get pretty pricey. They also have a few different sized washers including the large commercial machines, and the dryers are really big. Another plus: there is free wi-fi at the cafe across the street and the neighbors are pretty friendly. Doing laundry sucks, but if you can cram a bunch of dirty clothes into one machine and surf the net while you wait - it's not so bad. There is a payphone in there too, so sometimes, you get regular crazies chatting it up.... but it is one of the last pay phones in SF - so that's pretty impressive - right? read more

I've been going to this laundromat for over two years. It's definitely a no frills kind of place, and it's definitely not perfect, but I can at least get my laundry done here at the end of the day. And that's what counts, right? Lol I usually come on week nights around 8 or 9, or weekend mornings/early afternoons. If you go on a weekend I highly recommend going early or late in the day as mid-day is most crowded. Weeknights are usually pretty good in terms of the crowds, should not be a problem to pick out your desired washing machine. I always stick to the white, $3 top-load washing machines. They're the cheapest washing machines in there. They have bigger machines for more money (up to $5.50) but if I just have a normal amount of laundry from the past 2-3 weeks, I can usually be fine with 2 or 3 of the $3 machines- depending on how much sorting of darks/whites/delicates I have to do. Dryers by the way are $0.25/5 minutes. They're pretty strong, usually I dry all my clothes in 25-30 minutes. The coin machine is meh, lol I've struggled with it for years. Just try your best to bring your freshest bills and hope for the best. There's two slots on the coin machine, sometimes one's out of order but at least one is usually working. I would love it if this place could upgrade and have machines that accept cards, like my college dorms had that at least, but I've learned to accept that we can't always get what we want lol. There are times when dryers don't work so just make sure to check the dryer is hot a few minutes into starting your cycle. Actually I think I only experienced it once with dryer #28 so don't use that one- on the top right end. And several times I've had issues with machines eating up my coins. On each occasion this has happened, at least 4 times, I've left a little refund request slip in this little black box and like a week later I'll receive like $2 cash in the mail in a random envelope with no note or anything - in other words it's weird lol and I feel like each time it's coming from a different address. Which leads me to believe that the guy who owns the laundromat is some weird millionaire on vacation constantly and owning multiple homes and not really giving a shit about the quality of his laundromats because it works "good enough" to provide steady income. LOL but I've digressed... I at least appreciate that you don't ever have to worry about losing money to the machines- I've always gotten paid back. One of the biggest and maybe only pros to this place are the hours. They are open daily 7am to 10:45pm, last wash at 9:45pm. Okay, the second pro is that Trader Joe's and Safeway are up the street, so I often do grocery shopping while waiting for my laundry. The final pro is that there is a bench and a table that I often hop on and sit comfortably on while waiting for my laundry - other places in the area don't have that much seating to offer. Now, most importantly, let's talk about the characters who hang around this joint. I'm honestly concerned sometimes when I'm in here lol but after over two years I've just learned to settle and accept the discomfort. There's like a few crazy, homeless, drunk guys that often just sit on the bench here. There's like one weirdo half the time I come here. I'm not sure why the laundromat doesn't seem to take any steps toward warding these guys off but anyway. I always try to avoid eye contact with them and always keep to myself. They luckily haven't bothered me too much but their presence can be disruptive especially when they're smelly and drunk and there are beer cans around the laundromat. I blame them for the beer cans but maybe normal people are just drinking while doing laundry lol who knows. Besides the homeless guys, the people who do laundry can be super varied characters as well. I think some are foreigners visiting, I hear a lot of people with different accents, others are just weird but I can't put a story behind them. One time this weird old guy with a beard started talking to me when I was minding my own business, asking me about Cal cuz I had a Cal t-shirt on. He said he went to Cal too in the 70s and before you know it he's trying to ask me out for drinks. No, no, no!! Lol. I remember looking especially effortless that day, lol like in my pajamas and glasses and no makeup. It was like a weekend morning, it's too early for that shit! Leave me alone! Lol I should really be giving this place less stars but I've come to terms with it and would rather feel more positive than rant negatively about it. If you're in the hood and this is the most convenient place for you, I think you'll learn to accept the discomfort and weirdness like I have. read more

This is closest to my apartment. It's small- but most of the machines do work- or there is signage to indicate otherwise. Only drawback is I've noticed homeless and bums tend to use this as a pit stop to clean whatever they may have -- so it can smell a little dodgy and seem kinda random - and in general avoid weekends. I used their so-called premium commercial washer. $5.50 per load. The Spin Cycle/extractor is so lame you have to hand-wring your laundry. Except the place has no sink. I have lived around the corner from this neighborhood spot for 3 years and have used these machines nearly every two weeks. I have had countless bad experiences here but it seems tonight I have reached my breaking point and I am now vowing to never return.... after I hopefully retrieve my clothes tomorrow morning (more on that to come shortly). Please do not be persuaded by the other reviews by individuals who have frequented this location only once and appear to yelp for yelping sake only. What's wrong with this place? 1. Numerous machines are always out of order. They are far too expensive to not have adequate maintenance 2. Dryers suddenly shut off or mysteriously switch to low heat so that you return to a wet pile of laundry (this happens regularly) 3. I wouldn't call the clientele problem a homeless problem as that would be demeaning to the homeless population. The problem is drunk, mentally ill, and occasionally threatening individuals. Just 2 weeks ago I had to nearly break up a confrontation between a paying customer and a mentally ill individual who appeared very intoxicated and was yelling racial slurs at both the paying customer and the women who was preparing to lock the place up. 4. This place closes at 11:15 PM which is terrific for people like me who often work late. Tonight I had a load of clothes in the dryer and returned at 10:35PM, precisely when the drying was suppose to be completed, only to find the place completely locked up and machines off. I could see my clothes through the window still sitting in the machine undoubtedly still wet. I had heard of this happening to others before but always disregarded it. Please do not use this place for your own benefit and for the long term benefit of this community. I sincerely hope for the benefit of this community that people stop using this spot so that it loses enough revenue to be sold to an owner capable of managing such a simple business or at least move the current owner to action. It's a laundromat, and it works. No complaints, although my dryer seemed a little slow (a very small load, I would have thought 30 mins more than enough). But it's clean, lots of washers and dryers, an ATM, change machine, washing powder machine. I was there around 11am on Sunday so it was pretty busy. There is a nice looking cafe across the street, but as it was busy, I didn't want my clothes to end up turfed (or possibly taken, as seems to have happened to others). It's small, well-lit and felt quite safe to hang out at the laundromat until the washing was done. read more

Aside from the unsavory vagrants that use this place as their clubhouse the overpriced washers and dryers are consistently out of order, mysteriously switching to the no heat setting for unknown reasons, and/or ripping and burning your clothes. This is the fourth set of $200 sheets that has been ripped and burnt in a Wash This! dryer. It is never the same dryer so there is no way to tell what you are gonna get. I have tried leaving notes for the management and have never received a response. I only ever use this place as a last resort and pay for it every single time. More importantly, yesterday I got an ERR message from two machines. This morning I went back and got another. I was annoyed to tell the truth. I dialed the number posted for emergencies and was called back by Ted, the owner within minutes. He said, "I'm on my way down there." He fixed the problem and comped me a couple of loads.
