This dry cleaning/gift store is on the border of North Beach and Chinatown district. I needed to get two pairs of business slacks hemmed. The lady owner, Karen, I believe, was her name, got going with fitting, measurements, she's very skillful and knew what she was doing. While there, picked up a few kiddie toy cars and stickers for my children. When I picked up my pants, she recognized me, greeted me warmly, and remembered my name. She's highly likable and funny. I was very pleased with the alterations and appreciate the service she provided. Would recommend. read more

Ko Company is where I'm going for all my tailoring needs now that I'm moved into North Beach. Karen ,who seems to be the one there all the time, is so welcoming and friendly. She almost feels like a loving aunt. She remembered my name without looking at any slip when I came back to pick up my tailored items. She has taught me how to buy suits and jackets. She knows exactly all the mistakes young men make and seems like she's seen them all. She was able to take a jacket just too big for me and do "major surgery" to give it a fitted look specific to my body frame. I've been impressed by the work done so far. She clearly cares a lot about the quality of her work and spends time trying to understand what you want. She then makes sure to explain what exactly she's going to do to make it possible. It's her husband that executes the vision she sells to you as you stand in front of the mirror. All in all, I highly recommend this place. They do charge a bit extra but it's worth it when you have high quality items you want to make sure are taken care of. read more

I went to Ko Company to get 4 pairs of Ben Sherman pants hemmed after researching tailors in the North Beach/Chinatown. I've walk by this place almost daily and never realized it was not a toy store. But don't let the plethora of gund stuffed animals in the windows fool you. All the good reviews on yelp are spot-on. When I dropped off the pants, I told the woman behind the counter that I needed to change what was labeled as a 32" length down to a 30" inseam. She had me try on the pants, just to make sure that the 30" length would fall where I wanted it to, and then told me I could come back in 3 days! For a place that has such good reviews I was expecting a much longer wait time. Not only that, but the pants were just $9 a pant to get hemmed. I picked them up today and am very happy to say that they came out exactly as I wanted. And when I paid and tipped, the woman insisted on giving me a tiny paper crane, one for each pant I got done. This small, cute gesture was a very nice touch and a nice compliment to the already very friendly service I had received. They also do dry cleaning here and I expect I'll be bringing my coats and pants here when I need that done next. read more

Ko Company I have no words to explain how happy I am to have found a reasonable tailor that knows what they are doing. I forgot to ask the lady's name so I'll call her Mrs Ko. I went in to have a two pairs of jeans hem done and a suit sleeves and pants done. Told her what I wanted and she knew what I was talking about because I wanted my suit to show some cuff like most modern suits do. She made me put it on the dressing room and measure me and asked me questions to make sure she got it right. The work was perfect and reasonable price and she has a client for life. read more

A perfect example of why a customer will travel across town to get alterations done that can be done a block away from home. Attention to detail is not lost here. Karen is so nice, meticulous, and honest. She'll tell you the best option for you, not her pocket, and THAT is worth my money. I'm the most unskilled person if not in the world, than definitely in the bay area when it comes to sewing, alterations, etc etc. My grandmother however, was a seamstress for a Thierry Mugler boutique overseas and knows fashion, detail, can alter wedding dresses, etc. The one thing I do know is attention to detail and I can see how well Ko Company does their alterations. They pay attention to shape and fit and the best cut of a garment. I just had designer jeans altered there and they worked a miracle on the shape of the pants. Love it. I have been going to see Karen for over two years now. I have never had anyone pay so much attention to detail! For dry cleaning, you can't beat the price and quality of service. For tailoring, there is just no where else you should ever go! I bring some of the strangest requests in, and they are never a problem nor are they ever expensive. I've had many pants hemmed, sleeves shortened, skirts and dresses hemmed, a few blouses and dresses taken in, and one dress taken out. I was going to wear this dress to my friends wedding and Karen didn't even measure, she just eye-balled it and said "when you come back it will fit." It seriously fits like a glove. Karen is a woman of her word. When she says it will be ready tomorrow, she means it! Granted, I like to give her more lead time than that, but in a bind she makes it work. read more

I came here to get a rather elaborate bridesmaid dress hemmed. It was one of those beaded, Adrianna Papell full-length gowns, and we were told that the dress's fabric couldn't be cut since all the beading would fall apart. It was a more time-intensive job that required folding the hem up and hand-sewing. Mrs. Ko was super friendly and personable. She recognized the dress right away and knew how to work around the beading. My hem job cost $60 which I thought was reasonable, and she finished it in a little over a week. The store is super cute as well with tons of stuffed animals you can browse, and the windows full of animals were actually what enticed me to come inside in the first place haha. It hardly needs another 5-star review, but I love this place so I'm adding my review to the mix. Karen at KO is always so friendly and lovely, yet so professional and detail oriented. She always measures carefully, tells me exactly how the results will be achieved and what to expect of the outcome. She knows it's hard to park on Columbus, so she always offers to run the garment out to my car when I come to pick it up. I've brought KO too many items to count, both mine and my husband's. Her husband mainly does the work and is clearly an extremely skilled garment maker. It looks like a funny place from the outside with all the stuffed animals in the window, but once you see what KO has to offer, you'll just come to see those things as part of its charm. And hey, you never know when you might need to pick up a stuffed animal or sparkly stickers with your alterations. read more

Ignore the ghetto storefront, this place is fab. I had a skirt that I decided to get shortened as it was a bit too big to look good as a knee-length pencil skirt. Me being me, I thought short would be better so I pinned it up, found this place on Yelp and popped in with the skirt. The woman there was really sweet, she looked dubiously at my pinned skirt and asked if I wouldn't like to try it on to make sure it isn't too short? Yes I'm a hooch apparently but she was so funny I wasn't at all bothered. After trying it on for her she agreed that it was just about acceptable length-wise (or not as bad as she'd feared anyway) and laughed about sounding like my mum. I dropped it off on a Thursday night at 6pm and it was ready Saturday morning, which I think is pretty speedy service. They did a really nice job, as it was a well-made, lined skirt and the stitching is great on the lining and the main part of the skirt. For $18 I'm a happy camper and will definitely be returning here again! One thing to note though, they don't take credit cards - just cash or cheques so be prepared! read more

Started coming here because I'm really short (5'4") and my jeans NEVER fit me. The smallest I can find are 28x28 which are sometimes still a little too long, especially designer jeans. Came in here with a pair of work slacks and some 7 jeans to get cut down so they would finally fit. Mrs. Ko did my measurements and said they'd be done in 2 days. Came back and they fit perfectly and the job is really high quality for only $8.50 per each pair. Mrs. Ko is really nice and friendly. High quality service and pretty cheap. Only downside is that its CASH ONLY. bleh. Also, yes its random with the stuffed animals on the other side of the store. What do you expect, Asians always sell the most random assortment of things. read more

I needed to get 2 new pairs of jeans hemmed, and wasn't sure where to go in the city. I finally decided on giving Ko Company a try because of all the outstanding Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed! Mrs. Ko was extremely nice, but more importantly, detail-oriented. With each pair I tried on, she asked me exactly where I wanted the hem to touch my shoe, and then measured my inseam to make sure her husband (the tailor) would hem it correctly. I needed one pair hemmed with the original hem ($18), and the other pair with a regular hem ($9). The quality was great when I picked them back up the following week (I think their turnaround time is just a few days). As far as I can tell, the prices are very reasonable as well. They're able to get out tough stains and have even replaced some of my broken buttons free of charge and without me having to ask. The dry cleaning turnaround is typically a week, but you can ask for less and it will be accommodated. There is an ATM inside so you never have to worry about having cash in hand. read more

Ummm....this place is amazing!!! I was seriously worried when we first parked outside when I saw all the random knick knacks they were selling. What kind of tailor was this!? My boss needed a shirt tailored by Friday (it was Wednesday afternoon) and at first the lady said she couldn't do it and then later agreed to get it done for us! There was a $12 option and a $28 option of getting the sleeves shortened and he went with the $28 option. My boss and I both agreed she looked like she would be the boss lady of some crazy Chinese mob. She is super flossy!!! Was always able to find street parking right outside but probably just got lucky since North Beach is notorious for bad parking. She only takes cash too! read more

I had a vintage wedding dress that needed to be cleaned for a photo shoot. The last photographer that had used the dress had the model climb into a lake, so there was a water line stain around the dress. Everywhere I called around quoted me $125-250 the minute I mentioned it was a wedding dress. When I called Karen at KO, she took the time over the phone to talk to me about the dress, and when I came in, she conducted a test on the stains and told me I could actually wash the dress myself with woolite. I was amazed at her honesty and customer service. And she was right, after I washed it, the stains came out and the dress was a whole shade whiter. I came back to have her press the dress, and it looks a million times better. She's definitely gained a new customer. read more

Dry cleaning is reliable and fine. Alterations is OK not perfect. I got a number of jeans hemmed with no problem. However I'm sitting here at my desk at work with my dress lining popping out. I had my dress shortened which looks aesthetically fine when I stand but it looks like the tailor didn't alter the length of the inner lining. Terrible. Parking isn't easy around here either. read more

Like many other reviewers, I had no idea that Ko Company had dry cleaning/alteration services. I've had both alterations and dry cleaning done at Ko Company, and the service has been great on both occasions. Additionally, the prices are very reasonable, and Mrs. Ko is a wonderfully pleasant and nice woman. I'm not sure why they have toys in the shop as well--indeed, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone purchase any of the toys. But perhaps I'll run into some situation at some point where I have limited time where I have to drop off dry cleaning and pick up a baby shower gift at the same time, making Ko Company that much more awesome? read more

With most online discount retailers, you get what you order from their site. However, I got a very cool jacket/vest that came in a size two times larger than what I needed. Due to the exclusivity of the vest, I didn't want to return it, but have it turn into something I wanted to wear. With this vest also having a nylon exterior and jersey fabric lining, I wasn't sure I was going to get it to fit. Then, I found Ko Company here. Within two days, I picked up the vest and it fit perfectly. Not only that, but the quality of work done rivals what even the maker of the garment could not. Now, I have the best vest that I can dress up and dress down and fits like a glove. The best part was the service. When I needed to get three dresses altered last minute for a fancy-occasion-filled weekend, I consulted Yelp to find which tailor in walking distance from my North Beach apartment would help me. I chose Ko Company, and I'm glad I did: they did a PERFECT job on all three of my dresses and I spent a total of 10 minutes in there. It was a total of $42, which I felt wasn't too shabby for what I got. I will definitely return to Ko for all my tailoring needs - inexpensive, great tailoring, and extremely nice people who work there. THE BEST. I hike the North Beach hills from BART all the way from Oakland to come to Ko Company whenever I have alterations. I've been coming to Ko Company for nearly 20 years and by now have saved thousands having Mr. Ko mend favorite articles of clothing instead of replacing them. The owners are lovely people with a lot of integrity, smarts and principles. This is the first and last time I come here. The owner is super nice. She's sweet and kind and extremely personable. The only problem I had was after I dropped off several button up shirts. I received them back with numbers marked on the inside in white marker. I suppose this is the way they track clothes with the customer. Not cool though. Seeing as how the shirts I dropped off were rather expensive. Don't come here unless you want your shirts marked up. read more
