The app is difficult to avoid needing to end up paying twice for a wash. Refund is only via email. There were three such double paid washes. But after the first refund was processed the next two were given long boilerplate excuses citing suspicion of something fraudulent. Payrange app has yet to refunded the two double pays; amounting to 50% overcharge. AND a significant number of machines are out of order. read more

I've lived across the street from here over 20 years. There are about 30 bedroom windows that face this corner. Some of us work nights. I bartend and my neighbor is a nurse. About 5 years ago they hired someone who thinks her job is to howl good morning 3 times in a row to everyone and thing that passes by. Cable cars, dogs, early risers, everything! This used to start at 6:10 AM but they must have changed her hours because now it starts at 7AM every weekend. The rest of the week is relative silence and rest. Earplugs don't seem to help. It's like she's out on the fire escape. We sent a letter once asking them to keep it down until a reasonable time but nothing has changed. If you're like me and from a dryer climate (Sacramento) and therefore sweat your way through all your clothes within the first couple days, then this is the place to go. The woman working the desk, unsure if she's the owner or employee, who said people call her "Happy" (I forgot her real name) made this normally irritating process, seamless, smooth, easy, and fun. She has a great presence and vibe, and clearly is well adored by her patrons. Laundry mats can feel bad at worst, and mundane at best, and this was probably the most pleasant experience I've ever had in one. The machines are also clean, efficient, and quick. Half the time of the machines in my complex back home, and about $2 cheaper total, and that was with a soap pod. You can pay by app, credit card, or coins/cash. I would give this place 5 stars but, like the other reviewers have noted, if Shaun (the blonde guy) is working, it's probably going to be a rough time. He gets exasperated and rants to customers about OTHER customers as soon as they leave the laundromat (!). He gets loud, talks down to people, and makes the environment very tense--especially chatting up women who I can tell just want him to leave them alone. I have been to the laundromat many times over the past 2 years, and it doesn't matter what time I come if it's his shift; he is in a bad mood and taking it out on everyone. I feel like management really needs to talk to him about how all of this is not okay. I work retail and if you need to blow off some steam, go somewhere that's not your store to rant and decompress--or, just text someone about an exchange if you're pissed! Happy is great, as are the other folks who work there when I've done laundry. The facility is always clean and there's many machines, a quarter machine, and ways to get laundry supplies. The blond young man who works here makes people VERY uncomfortable. He watches people while they do their laundry and gives them unsolicited advice, A LOT of it and especially to women, and he gets really worked up while doing it too. Advice extends beyond laundry. This happened to me twice in a span of two months. I witnessed him doing this to another woman while I was there on same day it happened to me. It's creepy and highly inappropriate. I had a woman come up to me today asking to write a review to get him fired, because it happened to her as well and he makes her very uncomfortable. This happened right after I repeatedly told him to mind his own business. Entire situation was really aggravating and made me really upset, I would leave if I could stop the cycle and take my laundry. There is plenty to do outside of harassing customers, like to make sure machines are clean, actually work and PayRange doesn't double, triple or quadruple charge customers. He doesn't seem to do this to any male customers. I have way more to say and I will if I have to but for now I will stop here. I don't think person is malicious but he needs to STOP. read more

I completely forgot about my laundry, and came 4 hours past closing time. The people were SO nice they wrapped my clothes in a bag and gave it to me safely past hours. I never write a review but unfortunately I have been prompted to do so by a newly hired employee. I'm not sure of his name, but he is a young, blonde male. As a woman, and someone that would do their laundry here occasionally for the past couple of years, I have never been uncomfortable in NBL until he has been hired. I feel sad to say this as I believe he is not trying to cause harm, but he is very inappropriate in his mannerisms. He is micromanaging seemingly only female customers. I felt very uncomfortable while I was there a few times, to the point where I probably wouldn't come here again unless my husband was here with me, which sadly, is the only time I felt safe here while the blonde gentleman was working. The time I came alone he was crouching by me near my legs and vacuuming inches from my feet and getting extremely close to me while I was unloading my laundry from the dyer. I'm just doing laundry and I am a married adult woman and not interested in someone gossiping to me about other customers and their orders while I'm folding my underwear. As a life long SF resident, unfortunately we grew up being cautious of men acting oddly and being inappropriate. In addition, while this goes on, he mishandles customer laundry and I've seen lots of clothes falling on the floor and so forth, which isn't very sanitary. Im sad to write this review as I genuinely thought NBL was the only good laundromat in this area, and it typically is when the taller, older, slim gentleman who is usually wearing the grey t-shirt is working. It doesn't feel like this young man is trying to be malicious, yet he is acting very inappropriately. Managers/Owner of NBL needs to please give him constructive feedback because most laundromats are unfortunately not very safe and it is important to make customers feel safe, especially female customers. read more

I usually do my laundry at Star Wash in Lower Haight, but since I was dog-sitting at my friend's house for a few days I was forced to try a new place. I was pleasantly surprised! I struck up a conversation with some of the locals, and they said that things have changed for the better since it's been under new ownership. A little pricey at $5 per load, but the washers were clean and worked well, except one which had some water sitting in it, so we just avoided that one. There's a change machine, table for folding, and a coffee shop next door. Dryers are .25 cents for 5 minutes, but they worked well. 3 loads of laundry cost us around $20-$25, but working machines and a clean facility can't complain. read more

Since there is no email address or a way to contact the owners I have to leave a review here. Not to be rude or unkind, but the newly hired gentleman has such pungent and pervasive body odor that I cannot do my laundry when he is working. The smell permeates the entire place even with the doors open. It's bad enough to make me nauseous if I get too close. I can't imagine I'm the only one reeling from the extreme odor. I will be avoiding laundry at this place when this employee is working. Hope this can be addressed and resolved because I love this place and have been coming here for years. read more

Very clean and beautiful interior laundromat! Price I think is quite reasonable but they do charge more if you use hotter water to wash your clothes. Cool thing about this spot is that you can either self serve or have them do your laundry for you if you don't have time! Oh yeah and you can pay with either cash or with the app that they have available! Which is so cool and super high tech! But if you do, make sure to select which mode you are using first before paying on the app. The worker told me many people made that mistake and they had to help fix it on their end which is a bit of a hassle for them but they are happy to help! I'm so thankful I found this business on Yelp. I was in town for a week, but my parents had been in town for a while. Between us, we had a lot of laundry, and no time to spend doing it at the hotel's guest laundry. Enter, North Beach Laundry: nearby our hotel, easy to get into, with friendly and helpful staff. I chose the four hour option, but they texted me after only a few hours to tell me my order was ready. I liked how much communication there was. I was also able to redeem a "50% of your first order" offer that I wasn't even aware of - it seemed to be automatic. Both the woman who checked me in and the man who helped me when I picked up were so nice to me. The shop is clean and bright, and I loved the products they used. The cute sign was such a nice touch, and a reminder that even basic, service-oriented businesses seem to be that much more Instagram-worthy in SF than at home. This was a lifeline for us during a tough time. Thankful for the folks who work hard here to keep us looking our best. read more

Most of the attendants are great. Happy has helped me multiple times when I had issues with anything. Laundry is expensive but the machines are excellent. I also like that you can pay by phone instead of quarters! I am only writing this review becasue I recently had a troubling experience with an attendant. I am located right next to the laundromat and aways come in no more than 3 mins after my cycle ends. On this day, a large woman with dark hair (employee) moved my clothes the second they had finished... and there were other machines of the same size that were not in use! I thought that was unnecessary and sketchy. I have also never misplaced anything and I keep track of my items, but I noticed that one of my very expenisve running tops was missing when I got home. I am very bummed about it. I do understand that is a risk since I do not stay and watch it the whole time. She left my items in an open area on display which made theft easy if that's what happened. I dont really understanad though becasue I only arrived a couple minutes after the cycle ended. In addition, she was also very rude when asked about it. Overall, my issue is the employee moving my clothes when it wasn't necessary at all as less than half of the machines were in use. read more

Terrible experience. The first time I used drop and go service and things were fantastic. Just came by to drop and go service and the guy working the front couldn't be more insulting and rude. I show up at 6pm and I guess he's about to go on his break (how am I supposed to know this). He immediately gives me serous attitude, huffs and puffs, looks away and says "you and your wife always show up at this time." I have no idea who he has me confused with but it's unprofessional and not ok with me. I guess he thinks all ppl of South Asian descent look the same. I inform him "this is my 2nd time ever coming here." At this point he realizes he has me confused with someone else and begins apologizing. Doesn't matter because I'll take my business elsewhere. Not sure who it was that was working on 09/21 at 6pm, but dude needs to keep his composure and learn how to speak to customers. read more

I'm not a fan of the app they use because it requires rebooting my phone every time I want to use a different washing machine or dryer (not just rebooting inside the laundromat but also having to walk a block away to log in to it). Instead I suggest a ton of quarters for the exorbitantly priced washers. My last visit resulted in losing half of my underwear. Where it went, I have no idea. The attendant does not seem interested in customer satisfaction. The experience of trying to use the laundromat while an attendant is hogging machines, baskets, and folding tables is one reason why I try to limit my visit. read more

I don't often go onto YELP to write negative reviews, but when I do it's because of the horrible experience that I had to go through. I went to do my laundry and the worker there was COMPLETELY RUDE. He kept repeating that I was using pay range wrong even after I told him I got it. He even had me pull my phone out multiple times and practically lectured me. I should not have to go do laundry have my peace disturbed. That was not the only time he interacted with me. As I was folding my clothes, after they were dried, he told me something along the lines of "next time you should do your laundry every week because this is what happens when you wait a month." He also said "you were already here for more than 2 hours." Me being there with my OWN time has nothing to do with this worker. If I want to spend my own time doing laundry then let me be. I should not have to endure this lecture. He also proceeded to take my clothes out of the drying machine because he had to "clean" the dryers even though there was still another hour until the business closed. There was another customer that went to do his laundry and immediately you could tell the worker was in some sort of mood. The customer asked the worker how much the rates were and the worker proceeded to give an attitude. He also mentioned the store closed in an hour and a half as if the customer should not think about doing his laundry. Every experience I have had here,it feels as if the worker are always judgmental . I want to be able to do my laundry in peace just like everyone else. TLDR: Terrible experience. Making my way up the hill from my hotel at the wharf was way harder than navigating the laundry services at North Beach. Sure, I haven't been to an actual laundromat since I was 9, and yes i do my own laundry-always. But, the climb up almost killed me. A rare San Fran afternoon in March that was actually hot and dare I say humid. So I walked in admittedly delirious. Of course the coin operated machines have an app option but it was just easier to cash out for coins. Plus, it felt like Vegas with the cascade of silver rushing through my hands. The woman that runs the place gently walked me through the process (I think she believed and I came across like an idiot) and even offered me the dropoff option if I was going to be in town longer. My laundry needs are specific and as I started to explain why that wouldn't work, I stopped mid sentence knowing she was tolerant enough of my awkwardness that she needn't be privy to what's really between me and my Calvins. So there I was, at North Beach, happy to have undertaken this journey for clean underwear and suggest if you're even in town and need the same, the hill is worth the climb. read more

I don't know how and where they hired attendants and I found 2 of them especially rude like they have the right to harass or scold the customers . I just want to do my laundry quietly without being lectured, watched nor timed I should have finished my laundry. I always feel like being targeted when I did laundry there. About 2 months ago, after I did my wash, I went back to dry my clothes 2 hours later because for some reason I got delayed, the attendant on that day mentioned that I should have not left the clothes blah blah, first of all there were empty washers and it was not crowded that day. I didn't know I was being timed how long I should have my clothes in the washer... today I accidentally used the rolling cart I didn't know the attendant was using that because it was right near the dryer area, so he came right in front of my face and said didn't you see the tag on the cart and you should have asked blah blahs, he was totally rude and humiliating me in front of the other customers.. While my apartment building has a laundry room, some things need larger machines. I've only visited once so far, but plan to return every couple months for a "big wash" with my duvet and other bedding. The laundromat was clean and all of the machines were in good order. There were only two laundry carts when I visited, but any more than that would not fit well into the space. My only complaint was that another customer (literally!) held onto an empty laundry cart while she watched a washing machine count down 5 minutes on her load. She diligently avoided acknowledging me when I asked to use the idle cart, so I I ended up taking about a half-dozen trips between the washers and dryers with my own wet items. The business cannot be blamed for its patrons' poor manners - but I'd recommend that other customers bring a laundry basket (not just a laundry bag) in case they find themselves "cart-less" as well! read more
