Love coming here; the food is always CONSISTENTLY good, and they always have a variety of traditional Jamaican favorites. Whenever I'm in the area, it's a must that I come here. I've tried pretty much everything: the curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken, beef patties, mac and cheese , vegetables, rice and peas, etc. Each time I visit they usually have a new item they've added to the menu such as spinach rice or different types of fresh juices. The cucumber gjnger and sorrel are so refreshing as well. I prefer coming to this location because their customer service is always warm and friendly. I had to give GK a try myself. I selected rice and peas (w/ gravy) and a (mild) beef patty with cheese. Unfortunately, they were out of the chicken patties - I wanted that too. At first bite the flaky, soft beef-filled pastry was tasty and I can see why it is a favorite. The restaurant even has an "express patty" line, that should tell you how much of these they sell in there. My mouth watered at the smell of the rice and peas, and it did not disappoint. Covered in oxtail gravy it was delicious and filling. The restaurant is small and seating is limited, so keep that in mind if considering dining in. The restaurant is brightly lit and full of fliers and posters on the walls and glass window highlighting Jamaican events and culture, as well as the Jamaican flag hanging proudly in the window as a reminder of what and who they represent. I love that. With reggae music pumping through the speakers you can definitely feel the Carribean energy in the place. I would say, don't expect to receive a warm welcome or a smile when walking in the door, it may not happen. Just have your order ready in your head and be ready to say it. Side note: If visiting for the first time it may also be in your best interest to review their menu first to see what you'd like before stepping inside or walking up to the register to order... I did not get the feeling that they were all that excited to go through it with me. Lol, oh well. All in all for $10.78 I got my money's worth. For the portion size I'd say the price was not bad at all. It only gets more expensive if ordering something like their oxtails. I may consider going back again. First time here. I don't really eat Caribbean food, but since I was in Houston during the hurricane, this was one of the only places that opened up. I'm so glad i stopped in. I ordered the fried chicken plate with spinach rice, and a mild meat pie. Who can go wrong w/ chicken? Especially fresh chicken?? The spinach rice was good but a little spicy for me. Next time i'll try the pea rice. The fried plantain and steamed cabbage were amazing. The meat pie was the winner for me. It was so delicious. I've definitely would go back !! Came here for a quick meal and was happily impressed! The staff was very welcoming and helpful with the questions I had. I was unfortunately in a hurry so I grabbed a fresh juice and a curry beef and jerk chicken patties. The juice was incredibly fresh and had a wonderful ginger flavor. The patties haf a great amount of filling and the spice levels were on point. Only tiny thing I would change is having the patties cooked a little longer. So Ive been to this Location before and I can attest things have changed. I do feel the food is good when fresh. Its flavorful however they are using the same roux for everything. I ordered from the Kirby store in Houston on Uber Eats. I'm pescatarian so I decided to go with the Fried Snapper with rice & peas and steamed vegetables, along with a vegetable patty. Turns out they gave me fried chicken instead, along with SUPER dry rice & peas, and the blandest veggies I've ever eaten. The patty was the only saving grace, and that was only decent. I drove three hours from San Antonio to come check out Golden Krust, & I was not disappointed even slightly. Let me tell you, if we had a place like this in San Antonio, I'd be back at my old size of a 28!!! I ordered my food to go, because I planned on going around to take photos too, as I am a photographer. But, instead, I got two plates, one for dinner & one for lunch/dinner today. So heres my two cents...it's worth it. I got braised oxtail & all the fixings: Rice & peas, greens, & plantains. If had been sitting at a table when I ate this, I would have been slapping it & crying out "dayum! Now THAT is some good food!" Each bite I took, I savored every bite, every morsel & smackerel! The braised oxtail was fall off the bone perfection. Very, very little fat. It was perfection. Let me tell you, I was sucking dem bones!!!! The rice & peas, with a bit of braised oxtail sauce poured over, had me slapping the air more. (I need to get a table, a strong one. Lol) The spices in that rice & peas was so good, I could easily have made a meal of just that alone. OMG! The greens, (they said what they were, but my hearing sucks,) but those greens were on point. The flavor. OMG I cannot stress enough about the flavors in the food. Perfection. Making my mouth water again right now as I think about this meal. Gonna be eating my lunch super early today. May not split it up for dinner. Just skip dinner. Lol But, I did have two of the jerk chicken wings on the drive back home, ok & may have snuck one, or two, of the plantains. What?! I love them. I knew I'd have them with my braised oxtail at home, but NOPE! Could not wait. So, my meal today, (had part yesterday ), is going to be the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings, spinach rice, and green beans with, yup you guessed it them plantains. Just DAYYUUMMMM! The spiciness of the Jamaican Jerk was perfect, the chicken was moist and each bite was sheer heaven to my tastebuds. Did have a couple of forkfuls of the rice & it was just so yummy. The flavors blended so well, made me want to eat it all before I pulled out of the parking lot. Knowing it was gonna take me three hours to get home & get to eat the braised oxtail, I did eat enough to satiate me. Two wings, two plantains, a bit of rice & some of the perfectly cooked green beans. The only thing I needed, because I'm a Southern Belle, was some biscuits to sop up all that goodness. Well, next time. Then, oh I'm not letting you get away without praising that fruit punch. Holy heck. That stuff had me taking a sip, & yelling in my car "DAYUM THIS IS SO GOOD" after each little punch of the spiciness of that punch. Truly best fruit punch I've had in my life. I've already told them I'll be back next month & I want a gallon of that stuff, truly. Side note, after driving over three hours to get home, (yeah I had to stop at Buccee's), my food was still warm enough to eat without any reheating. I can't even do that by going up the street from my house. Golden Krust somehow managed to keep their food at the perfect temperature & not have it over, or under cooked. The food was great right out of the container. So, I could only give five stars, but this location truly deserves 10. 10 for their amazing customer service. 10 for their amazing food. 10 for that fruit punch. Each time I head to Houston for no reason, this is where I'll be at lunch time. Be sure to go in, be kind, & just take in all the amazing smells of the awesome food. Let's be clear from the start. The staff were so nice it was ridiculous. I cannot fault them for the solid...meh...experienced at this visit. First off, nothing was ready and they had been open for 45 minutes. Took about 15 minutes to get our "fast food". They were out of the cheezee beef patty, mild beef patty, and other items that we really wanted to try. We tried the spicy patty, mac n cheese, plantains, and wings. The spicy patty was just ok. More like a paste than meat inside. The mac n cheese was pretty good until the spiciness hit you like a donkey kick to the sternum. The plantains were just OK. Definitely needed the extra salt we requested. The wings were pretty decent...but Wing Stop is WAY better. All in all, they are trying to get this place established and definitely have some growing pains to sort. If they get these taken care of, this could be an excellent addition to the fast food rotation. read more

I love Caribbean food! Like sooooo much! I've had oxtails on multiple ways. Other cultures cook oxtails differently. But Jamaican style oxtails are my favorite! The portions I think are just right if not slightly larger than you'd expect! You have the option of gravy or no gravy but always get gravy, I mean, unless you're a communist... I've had the curry goat as well, it's equally just as yummy as the oxtails, and the spicy pattys, you can get them mild or spicy, both are good! The rice and peas to me seem a little on the dry side, but that's why I recommend you get gravy, their plantains are good too! I've ordered here several times, and my husband will make the drive since he knows this place is a favorite! I've even waited painstakingly long delivery times from UberEats just to get their food! Pro tip: don't expect to get there quickly if you go around the time the rodeo event is happening, or during rush hour traffic! I was pleasantly surprised that a new place opened up here in the med center. Out of curiosity, I gave Golden Krust a try for dinner and it did not disappoint! The employees were really friendly and helpful as I haven't had Caribbean food too often. They took their time explaining exactly what they had. We ended up ordering the braised oxtail meal, goat curry meal, and a spicy beef patty. The meals came with rice and peas or rice/spinach. Apparently cabbage too, but since they ran out they gave me a generous portion of Mac n cheese. Everything was flavorful and delicious! The oxtails came right off the bone, the goat curry was seasoned and spiced just right. The spicy beef patty wasn't too spicy and the crust was flaky and delicious. Grabbed dinner there the other night, right before closing. Long, busy day, so hadn't eaten. About an hour and a 1/2 after eating my husband's stomach was upset. By 2 am we were both up for the night, throwing up and using the bathroom. I called the next morning, and was told I should have called the previous night. Even though they were closed by the time I made it home. Owner offered no refund, or even any apologies. Very disappointing. Especially given I go there pretty often. As well as my parents. Went on a Saturday around 2 PM. Upon entry nobody was inside, didn't think the place was open. It was order jerk chicken and rice. Wanted pork, it's on website, they didn't offer any pork here? The Mac and cheese, apparently was sitting there since opening and looked really bad. Most of the food appeared to have been cooked earlier and was sitting for awhile. Rice didn't taste good. Jerk chicken was very dry. Had a piece of carrot cake, wasn't the kind on the website. Didn't like it. Had the pineapple and ginger juice. It was tasty. Will not be going back. I was in the area for an appointment and decided to give Golden Krust a try. Overall it was a positive experience. Here's what I liked: The stewed chicken was nicely cooked and the gravy was really tasty. I also liked that I was offered extra gravy, which I accepted :) The plantains had a nice texture and was tasty as well. The rice and peas had good flavor and was not dry! The customer service was excellent. I was acknowledged and greeted with a smile as I entered the restaurant. I really appreciated that. Now for what I didn't like: The cabbage. It had an overpowering buttery taste that I didn't enjoy. It was only edible with bites of chicken and rice and peas. I come here when my craving for "comfort food" becomes unbearable. I love a good oxtail or stewed chicken and during rare moments I crave jerk chicken. I am originally from Trini so these cravings are fairly regular. Golden Krust has not disappointed when it comes to the taste of its food. I was very happy that one opened up in TMC area because I used to frequent this restaurant when I lived in Brooklyn​ - I especially fell in love with their festival. Why three stars then? Well while the customer service is good, and the food is tasty, sometimes I ended up getting a bit sick after eating there. It may be certain batches since I have not consistently gotten sick, but it has happened. Secondly, it is a bit pricey. It is very easy to run a high bill purchasing a few of their options - my last order of stewed chicken (meat only), small chicken soup, and jerk chicken entre was about $35. All in all,​ definitely a solid lunch/dinner choice. PS - apparently​ they also have saltfish breakfast items! Definitely on my bucket list to try for this year. read more

The young lady who was serving was very nice and accomodating. I bought a jerk chicken, spicy beef and spinach patty. A side of plantains. Loved the place before 2021 but after that the prices skyrocket and the quality went down. The service also went down and usually in a Jamaican spot the service is excellent but they make up for it in the food. I used to get the oxtails once a month and I haven't been back in years, but was about to give it another chance. These reviews reminded me why I can't go I see nothing has changed. read more
