I work near Golden Krust and have wanted to try it for some time. I have no idea why I waited so long! Recently, I had a rare lunch break in which I had time to go grab something, so I went for it. I ordered through Grubhub on Yelp, and a friend ordered through Google. The process was easy for both, and they reported that lunch would be ready soon. When we arrived, the food was ready right on time for our pick-up, which made everything super easy. I started with a spicy beef patty. It was great! Not too spicy, but loved the kick and flavor. The crust was flaky, and the patty was hot. Honestly, I could have just had a patty and a side, which would have been a great lunch, but really - I wanted to try all the things! I ordered the brown stew chicken with rice and beans, vegetables, and plantains. The brown stew chicken - oh my goodness. It was delish. The chicken was messy, but oh so good. I gave up trying to use utensils and just picked it up and went for it. The spices were complex without being overpowering, and I could have spread that gravy out over every item on the plate. It was terrific. It made me want to explore some recipes for making it at home! The rice and beans were great, and I felt like the vegetables made the whole endeavor somewhat healthy (please allow me to carry my weak justifications for indulgent eating). The plantains were a great end to a fantastic meal. Portion sizes were huge, and I ate my lunch over the course of two days. Employees were friendly and helpful. Covid precautions were in place - employees wore masks and plexiglass dividers separated customers from the food. For a fast casual spot, this was a definite win. One of my favorite dishes to try is the Red Snapper fish cooked in either brown stu or escovitch, over rice and peas with fried plantains and cabbage...yummy! If you like spicy foods go with the escovitch, it works every time. For a more gravy covered fish with onions, carrots, and maybe some bell pepper, you'll enjoy the brown stu. Both dishes are great and filling and be prepared to wait a little on the fish as it needs time to cook. If you want something other than fish the menu has so much to offer from, oxtails, curry chicken, to stu chicken. If you want something lite you can always try out a pattie, either beef, chicken, veggie and even shrimp. You'll leave this restaurant feeling good about what you ordered. This is due to the steep price increases and addition of a "checkout fee" in addition to the price increases. I know prices are going up everywhere, but I'd rather spend my money where I know the owners and staff. Made it a point to look around for cleanliness... No complaints in that department. Servers should try to smile and at least act like you they are happy you are patronizing their business. Patties are five star for sure. I don't like how they just pile on so much rice to fill you up and rather than better portions all the way around. What really got me to leave a review was today. I stopped by and bought 3 crust and a drink. When I reach the window, I was told one price however when I pulled out my card I was quoted another price. When I inquired about this, I was told it was due to COVID. Huh?? So card price varies from cash because of Covid?? What they are doing is charging a service fee when you use your card. I explained to the cashier there is no sign indicating this and her response was " that is why we tell you this at the window". I explained that is not legal and it must be posted. To which she said it is posted in the store. The same store with the doors closed and you have to use the drive through. She tell me to take it up with the manager. He comes over and reinforce what she said. I mean if it is due to COVID would it not effect the cost all around whether it is cash or card? He said he give first responders a 10% discount as I look at him with my uniform on and explain I have never been offered a discount. The patties are delicious. They took me back to 7 mile beach. I had one of each flavor. All were delicious. I lived in Jamaica for 7 years and did a lot of work in the music industry there. When I walk in to some of "Jamaican" or "Carribean" restaurants or markets here in Snellville, I definitely get a "What are you doing here white man?" vibe that I never experienced in Negril or Kingston.
