    Brown Sugar Lava Mochi ($6.99)
    Rachel L.

New malatang and it's sooo good! They have the most authentic, numbing sichuan style broth I've had so far in the south bay. I got the Signature Chengdu Mala medium and it was really aromatic. Spicier than most malatang places I would say. The Sweet & Sour Dry mix was honestly not my favorite. It was way too sweet for me, but I know a lot of people who really enjoy this. The Chinese Burger was so delicious but overly greasy. Loved the brown sugar lava mochi. ITS SOOOO GOOD texturally and the brown sugar filling is so yum. There was a bit of a wait on a Saturday at 1PM as it was a full house. They don't have a waitlist system yet so they just block off the self serve bar until seats open up. It's very clean inside and modern. Definitely would come back! Overall: 4.6/5

Golden Malatang was such a clean and organized restaurant. It is my new go to spot for malatang. I loved their assortment of veggies, meat, and seafood. Everything tasted so fresh and came out fast. I recommend getting the green pepper szechuan broth. It was slightly tangy and very savory. The staff were friendly and accommodating. They even offer complimentary rice! I also really enjoyed their free citrus water.

NEW Malatang spot with the cutest bowl! The inside bright, spacious, and kitty themed! Seriously about to be our new go to malatang spot because they have items we've never seen anywhere else like crawfish...PEELED crawfish and can choose between soup and dry. They also offer drinks and snacks (GET THE CHINESE BURGER ). Service is also soo sweet, shout out Hanna!

Golden Malatang is the latest malatang spot that's been making waves on social media. Its simple and clean cut aesthetic seems to be the selling point. Food is priced at $15.99 a pound. You choose the ingredients from the ingredients bar. There wasn't a lot in quantity for each ingredient, but there was at least a variety of different ingredient options. Sauce bar had the staple choices, but was pretty minimal. Staff was friendly and assisted with any questions about spiciness. It can also be adjusted to your liking if needed. The Chengdu mala broth soup at mild spicy was spicy enough to be slightly numbing. The Tomato broth soup was extremely concentrated with a creamy tomato flavor. Overall, a good hotpot experience!

Not sure if other places are forced like this and I havent realized it but you have to have 10lbs in your bowl in order to pay out so it starts at $17. This forced me to grab noodles and im not much of a noodle person. They dont have a lot of meat options. The tomato broth wasnt as sweet as I usually get compared to other malatang. It was also more on the salty side. Rice is complimentary though. The sauce bar had plenty of options and has a recommendation list.

new malatang place! we got the tomato broth and the spicy and sour one! liked the broth a lot but i wish the sides were a little more complete. there wasn't a lot of stuff on the side compare to other places, so hopefully this gets better!

Lovely staff and extremely kind cashier. Very premium options including scallops and crawfish. Will return!

Errrrrrr this place is alright. Inside is smaller than I expected so expect a fat wait during the weekend. I dont know why but inside just feels so claustrophobic. Got there right when they opened at 5pm so a few people were a few people in there already. Honestly they need more meat options and maybe just a few more other toppings. The tray for the beef is small/shallow so it's gonna run out quick, they need to be more on top of restocking it tbh. I got the sour broth and my friend got the mala one (mild). The broths are good but sheesh even mild for the mala one is pretty spicy. I was really looking forward to the chinese burger but it was bland :P all you really taste is just the meat (not really seasoned it's just super oily) and bell peppers inside, it did have a nice crispiness though. Also when they brought out my friends bowl the server spilled quite a bit of soup on our table and didn't clean it up.... lol dont listen to the yelp elites cuz this place mid, theres many other better malatang spots.

I thought they added a bit too much anise spice but other than that, it's delicious. They have all the major meats available like rib eye, flank steak, pork belly, beef belly, lamb, and more. They have lots of appetizers to choose from in which our favorite is their crispy fried chicken. This side dish is so good and pairs great with regular rice with broth. They have a sauce bar for condiments and a fruit bar for sweet treats. The employees are quick on their feet and do frequently check-in with tables for refills and more. I'm a huge fan of Revopot and will definitely come back again for more!

Dinner & weekends are ~$36, with weekday lunches being cheaper; I find that this is about the same as or cheaper than what I would pay at an à la carte-style spot. Parking was really easy, as it's in a massive plaza with plenty of parking. I thought the interior alright; it was pleasant but not notably nice. The service was quite good--our orders came out quickly, our empty bowls were cleared fast, and we never had trouble getting their attention. They have a decent selection of hot pot broths, with individual pots for each customer. Their sauce bar is pretty standard, and they have a little dessert bar also. I found the desserts a little lacking (though they had mango sago, which was fun), but there is a decent amount of fresh fruit (mostly melons). They have a menu with fried appetizers & main proteins--the selection is on the smaller side, but I think it is sufficient. The fun part is the conveyer belt! They have all the sides you would normally expect--spinach, cabbage, several types of mushrooms, noodles, rice cakes, seafood, and the like. Everything on the belt is refilled really quickly, so I never felt like I was waiting too long for any item. Ultimately, I will say that I feel this spot is great if you have a big appetite and don't mind a somewhat smaller range of options. I do think that they cover most ingredients that you might expect from a hot pot place, so I didn't really notice the restrictions much (I'm also pescetarian, to be fair--the meats definitely seem fewer in range).

I'm a couple weeks late but here's the breakdown: Food (4+ stars) + The weekday lunch deal is $25 per person for both hot pot and BBQ. Really appreciate establishments that provide great value and good food! + Garlic shrimp was excellent--flavorful, and grilling it ourselves made it even more fun. Pro tip - no more than 4 minutes on a hot grill! (4.5 stars) + Those thinly sliced hot pot meats, when grilled, are super good and they go really well with your custom sauces. I actually like this better than the bbq meats. (4 stars) + Their sauce bar is always one of my favorite as they actually have actual shacha and not a vat of oil. Pro tip for sauce: Lots of garlic, lots of shacha, chili oil, green onions, cilantro, tiny bit of ginger and a teaspoon of sugar. (4 stars) ~ Kalbi and bulgogi were decent--nothing top-tier, but good for the price. (3.5 stars) ~ Banchan are fillers at an AYCE but I appreciate the effort. Nothing really stands out here. Service/Ambiance (3.5 stars) + Trendy look even though it's been here for years. It's never a long wait even when there's people in front. ~ Service is standard; you order via kiosk. With our big party and lots of dishes, a couple items were missed--seems common if you order a ton! But overall, it's consistent and efficient. If you're expecting premium Wagyu, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for a fun lunch with friends where everyone leaves full for $25, Q-Pot is still one of the better values in San Jose.

The grills got burned astoundingly fast, and the servers are very young, tending to run away after one request and do not stay long to service their tables for long at all. The self serve ice cream is extremely freezer burnt. The meat quality is very chewy and very fatty, and the corn cheese is thrown onto the grill by the servers in a tinfoil ball. The overhead vents do not work, tons of smoke was blowing in our faces, and the servers weren't attentive to see it and change our grills. I used their hand sanitizer dispenser, and it made my hands sticky. My hands weren't sticky to begin with... If I had to describe the experience in one phrase it would be "Here, damn" I'm surprised how busy this location is compared to their service and food quality.

A waitress there had told me there would be a $7 charge to do that and I paid anyway, but a waiter from our most recent visit assured us there's no charge to mix broths and that there may have been a miscommunication. Glad I asked! We always order 2 sumos: Black Angus Prime Ribeye and the Premium American Kobe Beef but we decided we love the Kobe beef more and would stick to that moving forward as it is more marbled and tastes fattier. Don't forget to ask them for the spicy drops if you also love spicy! This continues to be our favorite place for shabu.

Food quality is good, all the veggies and meat were fresh. They sadly didn't have enoki mushrooms, but they had shiitake and some others so that was fine. The beers were very refreshing and light, sort of like if cheap American beer was made to actually taste good. Like imagine Budweiser without the hint of cigarette filters and moldy socks. Especially on a hot day this was very nice. Service was fast and the servers were very nice, coming by many times to check on us and promptly refilling. Although the restaurant was pretty empty at 5 pm on a Saturday, not too surprising as it was a while before the dinner rush I guess. So... why 3 stars? It all comes down to the flavorless broth and sauce that seems to be de rigueur for shabu shabu. We tried both the "original" soy/seaweed flavor, which just tastes like water, and garlic miso, which has a very mild flavor. And then we used the two dipping sauces which I are a creamy sesame and I guess a ponzu, which I added some green onion and garlic to. The combination of the very light broths and the very light sauces is... very light. I guess someone might say you "taste the ingredients" more compared to the vastly superior hot pot where you add some flavor via the cooking medium and have a wide variety of flavorful ingredients to make a customized sauce. I can somewhat understand the perspective of wanting to mostly taste the flavors of the raw ingredients... but I don't agree with it. To me shabu shabu is basically hot pot minus flavor, and hence kind of a waste. I will say, pricing is relatively good here. Our bill was under $150 for a ton of food with everyone feeling very full. The restaurant itself is very clean and they have a large and convenient parking lot. If only it was a hot pot restaurant it definitely had all the ingredients for a 5 star review.
