I got my tootsies a Gel pedicure 24 days ago here at random while on a layover. They did not disappoint! My tootsies have not chipped anywhere! I trimmed them down today and they look amazing still. Andy did my super deluxe pedicure and he was very personable and sweet. He spent a lot of time making sure they were perfect to him. I enjoyed my hot stone massage, the massage chairs, and their faint music playing. Excellent pricing and he used a brand new just opened set of tools, which was important to me. I have never had a nail experience like this. I had about an hour during work that I was able to leave for a manicure, I walked over to Golden nails and asked if they had time for a fill. They told me to pick my color and have a seat and they would be with me shortly. In my mind, shortly means 10-20 minutes. I sat there waiting for almost 45 minutes. I did not want to be impatient as I was aware they did not have more than two people working, however I would have appreciated being told that it would be an hour to wait rather than to keep hearing "almost" when they would look at me waiting. I had waited for so long that I did not want to just leave at this point, but I explained I might have to leave to get back to work. They assured me they would start "very soon" and to wait which ended up being another 15 minutes or so. They told me it would only take 30 minutes for a fill, which I thought was interesting considering it is hard to do a good job in only 30 minutes. When they finally came over to me, she began doing my nails very rushed through and not paying attention to detail at all. I was trying not to mind about the small things, such as using a nail drill to chip off the paint that got on my skin on my fingers because none of them stayed within the nail. I asked for coffin, and that is just not what I received. I was stressed about getting back to work and did not have the time to wait for them to redo them, so I had her paint them anyways. If the paint job was good it would have been another story, but each nail is thick, bumpy, has several air bubbles in them, and do not stay in the lines. I kept asking if she was going to make it so the nails were not see -through as it looked very uneven and she kept telling me that "it was a hard color to paint with". I was not aware that my nails would look like this supposedly just because of the color. Upon leaving, I was very dissatisfied but in a rush to get back to work because I had been gone for two hours. I called them shortly after and explained that upon looking more closely, I was really upset with the quality of my nails and do not feel as though I should have paid for them. The lady on the phone explained I could come back to get them fixed any day this week, and when I explained that I did not have any time for the rest of the week and did not want to come back, she just kept offering times for me to come to get them redone. I kept trying to explain that I did not have time to come back but she kept insisting that was the only option. I drove over to speak with them and I tried to be nice and approach things politely as I did not want the customers who were getting their nails done to leave or get upset as well. I tried to quietly show the quality of my nails to the other lady working and she said there was nothing she could do for me. The lady who had done my nails then began calling out to me across the salon and told me to take a seat to get them fixed. At this point I was very frustrated and told them I did not have the time to wait another hour or even to get them fixed. They kept saying to come back later this week and were starting to be very rude and dismissive. I finally said, I would like a refund and to leave, and she just stated they do not ever do any refunds and that I would have to let her redo them. She then began accusing me of being a liar for not saying something earlier, when I was in a rush and unable to really inspect the quality. After being accused of lying and told that I took an hour and 40 minutes of her time (even though she only spent 45 min on my nails) there was no way I was going to sit there and let the woman do my nails again. I was extremely frustrated and asked once again why it was not possible to get a refund. The lady again dismissed me and talked to me very rudely and with attitude. I explained that if this was the case I was going to leave a review, and that did not seem to concern them as they still remained quiet until I walked out of the door. I would never recommend this business to anyone and I wish I would have known going in that it would be such a horrible experience. I would give this place 0 starts if I could. This is probably the best place I have ever gotten my nails done. Called them in the morning and they got myself and my friend in. Neutral smell which I appreciated and comfy chairs. Every time I come here I regret it. The one thing I will say is that the five times I've been here in the last few years I'm always able to get a same day appointment. With that being said I schedule appointments online and still end up waiting 15+ minutes to start, which is already annoying. I always get a gel manicure and every time it looks great for the first few days but then will peel up. I don't have this issue anywhere else. I then end up having to go somewhere else to have them redone. Last time I was in I handed the woman ringing me up my card and she said to me "why don't you have cash?" Uh? Golden Nails was the most unsanitary, revolting, useless and unfriendly nail salon I've ever been to. First, it was 9:30 a.m. when I arrived and I was the only customer there-- and I'd be the only customer there, by myself, until 11:30 a.m. You figure this would be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, right? Oh, no. Not even a little. They sat me in a pedicure chair and performed all my services at the same time -- manicure , nail extensions, nail art, brow and lip wax, and pedicure -- all at once. They treated me like cattle with how they poked, prodded and moved me about in that tiny pedicure chair. It was like auditioning for Cirque du Soleil with how they made me move, maneuver and position myself to have my nails, feet and face worked on *at the exact same time.* The person doing my waxing pulled out a wax stick from god knows where, and she let it rest on some random bowl and dirty clutter that sat behind me. This was gross and unsanitary. When I got in my car afterward, I still had leftover wax all over my chin and neck. I requested nail extensions, and the entire manicure was performed in the pedicure chair. This meant that I had white nail filings, dust and shavings all over my black pants and sweater. To remedy this, I had to ask multiple times for a towel to wipe myself off and cover myself. Also, while receiving my nail extensions and manicure, my nails were at different lengths -- noticeably so. The nail tech couldn't understand what I was saying and couldn't understand that I was plainly showing her all my nails were different lengths. After much debate and more hassle, I was finally able to have her clip and file them to all the same length. The nail tech was in such a hurry to finish the poor job she was doing, she wasn't even allowing my gels to cure in the UV lift for the full 60 seconds. When I briskly said something about this, she smiled but didn't care. I wound up walking away with chipped polish. Furthermore, there's nail glue caked under all my finger nails. Think this all too much to go wrong in one visit? It gets worse. Read on... The massage they gave me was almost uncomfortable and unbearable. As another person reviewed here, the massage was too rough and aggressive, and it was nearly painful. The woman doing the massage even set a cooking timer, placed right beside me, so she'd know when to stop-- even though I was the only customer in the salon. The ladies tried to be friendly, but they wound up doing nothing more than asking me if I'm from the area, over and over and over and over and..... I saw another reviewer point this out as well, but I don't think that the ladies were being rude; their English was just so limited that they didn't know what other questions to ask. This salon is absolutely worthless, not relaxing, unsanitary, and employs people who are grossly incompetent. The salon itself is cluttered and riddled with random objects just piled neatly into any space they could find (Think: your divorcée's uncle's storage closet.) I would never recommend Golden Nails to my worst enemy, but what I do recommend is this: Go somewhere else and put the money you'll spend here to better use by finding somewhere more relaxing that won't give you a communicable disease and an outfit covered in nail dust that it looks like I just wrapped up sawing wood. read more

I'm on vacation and staying close by, so I looked up a spot for a mani/pedi while I had some downtime. Came by Monday morning, and decided I would just do a gel manicure. The woman who helped me was so friendly and fast! I have to say from taking off the gel to finish it was the fastest gel manicure I've ever received. At one point she got up and came towards me. I thought she was going to fix my necklace for me, but she started massaging my shoulders and neck. That was a lovely treat and I was so relaxed! Here I am back again for a pedicure because I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on Monday. The ladies remembered me and the friend who I came with. I really appreciated how friendly and fast they are. My sister and I have gone here before and it was pretty ok, but this time just made me snap. When she got her nails it just looked like a blob of jel on top and there was weird yellow stuff inside the jel. I would not recommend going here at all. I wanted to get stars on my nails and when they were about to design them on, the nail person goes "are you sure you don't want some pretty flowers? Stars would be very ugly for you" and in the end she ended up not being able to do stars so I had to leave with just white nails. No consistency, they spend a long time with one customer with one service, but my Mani and Pedi says its should take 1 hr but was literally done in 20 mins. Golden Nails was inviting being brightly lit and having a free (2hr) street parking spot right in front. I got a gel manicure (removal too) and regular pedicure. My total was $40!! Before tip of course. The pedicure was really nice. TWO different scrub things happened in addition! to the heel scrubbing. I would definitely call it a "spa" pedicure. I realized it after I hung up, but decided to go to this one since I was driving anyway and Magnolia is always easier to find parking. I had a pedicure and dipping powder done. All in all, I'm very happy with the amount of time and care that went into the pedicure and nails. The gals that work here are really sweet and carefully applied polish and powder on my nails taking time to remove the extra that tends to cling to the cuticles. Definitely steer clear of this place. They did an extremely messy job with my manicure and pedicure, cut my skin, didn't have any attention to detail and broke off a large piece of my toenail. I attempted to ask for a more detailed approach (i.e. topcoat on only part of my nails and polish sloppily applied to my skin and cuticles), they refused to change course. I returned days later and tried to speak with the manager in hopes that they would agree with the suboptimal work and rectify the situation, but was instead met with an unwillingness to acknowledge that this was unacceptable and a rude response overall. Someone then hastily reapplies topcoat in an equally sloppy way, which in no way addressed the problem. Overall, I'm frustrated that my time was wasted and will need to pay to have these redone. read more

My last experience at Golden Nails pushed me over the edge and I am not going back. I went in for a mani/pedi; standard pedi and shellac French manicure. I had just received the same service from another nail salon in Wallingford and walked out of there blissfully content for $55 plus tip. (They even threw in extras such as bottled water, paraffin wax, head/shoulder/neck massage, hot stones and salt scrub). I walked out of my last experience Golden Nails "Spa" feeling fleeced! I got up to pay and the charge was $87 before tip. My manicure was uneven, the paraffin wax was so hot it burned me, the massage was lame and to top it off, even after waiting over an hour and sitting under the foot dryer, my pedicure still got badly smudged on nearly every toe. Unhappy with my service, I went back to have them fix the polish job. So history wouldn't repeat itself, I requested shellac polish on my toes so that I wouldn't have to wait around for over an hour and still have my nail smudged. I explained that I would pay the difference for the shellac polish. Then I get up to the counter and she charges me $20 for shellac polish. Keep in mind, that's half the cost of what they charge for a shellac pedicure. I'm sorry, but for over $100 for a mani/pedi I would expect a lot better service. It goes to show that just having the word Spa in your name doesn't make it a spa. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still just a pig, and this is just an overpriced mediocre nail salon with the word "Spa" in it's name only. read more

Update: came back hoping for a better result....there are only so many nail options in magnolia after all...and it got worse! Completely careless staff and product. Tried to up-sell at least 3 times. Took no longer than 45 SECONDS to shape, trim and scrub my toe nails/feet, bumped my nail putting my sandal back on and refused to fix. Literally told me to go, "ok done go now. What place doesn't offer you a seat to let your nails dry? Won't be coming back and HIGHLY recommend you find a different place to spend your time and money. Worth skipping over trying. Just stopped in there to get my nails done, 3 girls were there one was asleep in the pedicure chair the other was on her phone scrolling and the other was plucking someone's eyebrows no customers and they told me to sit down and wait I waited and the one didn't even wake up in the other one didn't even stop on her phone. they paid no attention to me so I walked out and went to Universal nails what a wonderful difference they did a great job and they were very attentive and very very fast I will never go to Golden Nails again! The chairs are usually broken though and the ambiance is worse than most places. No tv or music...it is nice bright and there are tons of chairs though. Update: went again today and my review hasn't changed but also wanted to add that they don't sanitize their tools at all. I saw them use a cuticle clipper with old skin still on it from another customer on me. They use old scrubbers to clean the pedicure stations too. I had a good experience with the nail services but was asked if I'd like an extra massage without being told it would cost extra...they up charged me $30 for it making the total for a REGULAR manicure and pedicure $70. When I asked about it she just said sorry that's what it costs, even though there is no "extra massage" listed on any pricing charts. Very very disappointed.
