I arrived for my appointment, Liya looked at my hair and did tell me my hair was very fine and that I had some damage at the ends. I knew these things, so it wasn't a shock. She did a cut to remove those damaged ends and then her assistant took me to wash my hair. During that wash the assistant asked me some questions about my hair because she was seeing some damage that was concerning to her. She finished the wash and took me back to the chair. Liya came back, she spoke with the assistant, and then Liya showed me the parts of my hair that the assistant was concerned about. She was very kind and apologetic, but told me that she would not feel comfortable giving me the perm with the damage they were seeing. It was more apparent now while my hair was wet. She didn't see it as much when she did the dry cut. Of course I was disappointed, but I was not upset with Liya for making this call. As a matter of fact, I was very appreciative that she was willing to be honest with me and not just take my money. Here's where my personal issues came into play. My level of disappointment combined with stress and sadness I was already feeling caused me to cry. I was trying to hold it in, but I kind of failed. Liya again apologized, I tried to explain that I was okay and I wasn't upset with her or blaming her. I told her I was grateful for her honesty. This is why I write this review. I hope that Liya reads it or at least gets the message. While I am very sad to have not been able to experience her beautiful work on my own hair, I am so thankful that she is a person of respect, integrity, and honesty. She did not charge me for the cut and the wash either. If you are looking to visit Liya at TT Salon, I highly recommend her! Which is why I reached out again when I wanted to do something fun with my hair for my 40th birthday. Since this is in an outdoor shopping center, there is free parking right in front. Although I no longer live in LA, I spoke with Kristie and she was just so over the top helpful in fitting me in into Ken's busy schedule. She was already in Taiwan for additional hair training and would respond to me, going back and forth between me and Ken. And mind you, this is before Lunar New Year, when most people would get their haircut! My day started right at opening time (10am) with a haircut. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and he just went with it. I will say this honestly: I've never liked my haircut this much. Why did it take me 40 years??? Anyway, we then had my hair washed and started with the first round of bleach around 11am, and then touch up. By 1pm, I decided to eat my lunch. I came prepared this time! Quick story: 9 years ago, I had no idea this type of hair procedure would take all day, and therefore did not bring lunch. Ken and Kristie fed me lunch! They are the best people, I swear. Anyway, after a rinse, we did another round of bleach with touch ups. I made it more difficult for Ken because I had dyed my hair a darker shade to cover my greys. I'm so sorry Ken! By 4pm it was no COLORING TIME! Ken started with the purple roots, then added the silver to the rest, with rounds of touching up. 5:30pm is when we did our last round of wash, then blow dry and a bit of styling. After a quick photo session, I was out by 6pm! I really appreciate them both for making this work, especially when I took up an entire day.
