Been wanting to try this place out and we finally decided to do that today. They weren't very busy but it was just after 4. Our waitress was Hailee (N) and she took very good care of my husband and me. My husband ordered the seafood platter, 2 catfish fillets, shrimp and crab cake along with hush puppies and onion rings (all fried). I had the mommas fried chicken with a salad (very tasty) and sweet potato fries. We actually had leftovers come home. The place was very clean and decorated nicely. Not a big restaurant like a franchise but just right for a cozy setting. We will definitely be back. Will have to try their breakfast and lunch in the future. Went to the Golden Spoon with my friends while visiting them. They are regulars there. Came in and they were greeted and when we sat they had there coffee. Staff was friendly. I had the Biscuits and gravy. A full size is 2 Biscuits split with sausage Gravy over them. A very big portion as the Biscuits are big and tender. The sausage Gravy could have used more sausage but the flavor was there just not enough meat. The Golden Spoon is a very good breakfast place, especially if you like big portions. Definitely will go back when I'm in Ocala again. read more

I went to Golden Spoon Diner for St Patrick's Day dinner. It was great! The food was excellent and potions were more than enough. The service was great with nice hostess and waitresses. Always asking if everything is fine or if I needed anything. There was a nice ambience in the restaurant. It was nice and peaceful with little chatter of people talking. Nothing real loud and I enjoyed my time there dining. I highly recommend this restaurant for any day and any occasion. I plan to visit again soon. Just experienced a very bad dinner at this location. My husband ordered and received correctly his meatloaf dinner which he enjoyed. I ordered the catfish platter blackened, after waiting 15-20 minutes my platter arrived with fried catfish, told the waitress that I didn't get what I had ordered to which she replied "you'll have to wait another 20 minutes to return this and get blackened " when I told her we were expected somewhere and couldn't wait that long she said "then there's nothing I can do ". I was stuck with a dinner I didn't want and was charged full price. Very unhappy! read more

Six of us went for breakfast, had made, and confirmed reservations. There were 2 large tables already served and maybe 3 couples in the diner, not crowded, not overwhelming for the wait and kitchen staff. Drinks were ordered, some came some didn't. Ordered food, we should have had fortune telling skills, and we wouldn't have, we waited a very long time to get our orders. Well, their interpretation of what we ordered! One got oatmeal, and no complaints, all 5 egg dishes were a disaster! I ordered eggs over easy, has browns and toast, the eggs were like rubber and only one had any yolk that almost was slightly runny. The eggs Benedict were so overcooked they resembled hard boiled, the eggs medium were almost that bad and the scrambled were a hard! Then there was the burnt corn beef hash and burnt country fried potatoes. The Benedict was redone but the rest of us plowed thru, too much food to waste by sending it back. No apologies, no manager concern.... Won't be back! And to add insult to injury, when I got home, it dawned on me I was charged for the breakfast with meat, and ordered none! Paid cash, to avoid the credit card up charge, no receipt ...another lesson learned! read more

How this place has more than one star I'll never know. If you want mediocre cafeteria food served in a funeral home environment this place is for you. Went to The Golden Spoon to cater our Holiday Party for 62 Neighbors. I always get nervous when working with a new vendor. Was so happy to meet David one of the owners who worked with us to meet our needs. David was available to answer questions, checked in the day before to confirm counts and even called me when it was ready for pickup. Great communication and good food as well. We had turkey, roast beef, mashed and sweet potatoes, vegetables, rolls and butter. Everything was hot and plentiful for our group. Everyone enjoyed the food, and no one went hungry! Thanks to David and his staff for helping to make our event a success! I was very excited to try this diner. I wanted to give a 3 but I'll give back a star for growing pains. I ordered take out. I ordered the hot dog and fish sandwich both with fries. I got home. The hot dog was naked (menu says topped with chili, onions and mustard. Fortunately, I live pretty close by so i went back. It somehow took longer the second time around to get my food. I got to my car and noticed they still gave me chips, but I gave up. Portions were generous. Food was fresh. Fries were crispy. The fish sandwich was great after I added some Mayo at home. Otherwise, it was a pretty dry sandwich. The fish/batter could have used more seasoning. The dog was good quality. I usually enjoy the crisp snap of biting into a fresh hot dog but mine was a bit overdone and dry (the chili came to the rescue here). It's only day 4 hopefully they'll find their groove. The diners leaving the restaurant sounded pretty content. Some had mentioned waiting a bit long for food, but had also mentioned it was worth the wait for them. This is a delicious place to eat!! Breakfast was good & generous and coffee very good!! Yesterday I ordered the Chef Salad And it was very large and had the meat wrapped up in itself for such a nice presentation. The tomatoes were fresh as were the eggs, cucumbers and the red onion!! My husband very much enjoyed their Meatloaf dinner with steamed broccoli and scrumptious gravy!! The wait staff is very friendly and efficient!! Please try this restaurant!!! The place can definitely use a good cleaning. The food was okay, it was not worth the price for ribeye, allegedly 12 oz, more like 8. Service was pretty slow. A real diner gets everything out pretty quickly, they do not. My wife and I have visited this small new restaurant about 3-4 times and I have always received great tasting food. The crowd varies in size during the day but I haven't ever had to wait for a table. Service is ok and could improve, like most anywhere else these days. Waitress staffing could improve but when our new government pays people more $$$ to stay home, than work, what can we expect, and that is our fault too! These ladies are overworked it is a job that I wouldn't want to do, but I'm retired too (and love it). read more

I recently ordered a take-out. Food is very tasty; however the wait staff and/or servers need to be trained in sanitary food handling. I observed one waitress pulling her fingers through her hair several times, after sticking her finger in her shoe to scratch her foot. Then she promptly delivered the meal to diners with a very pleasant smile. Two employees entered from outside and started work without washing hands. One employee returned from using cell phone outside and did not wash her hands. Hair restraints and hand washing are a vital part of safe food handling. Masks not worn by all wait staff.
