This dental practice is very unprofessional. They never answer the phone when it matters and rarely call back, so you have to call them back. I was hung up on several times with no call back. They also love to keep you on hold FOREVER! I drove 1/2 hour to them for an appointment and they didn't tell me they cancelled it. They are not accountable for the poor work they do and then blamed it on me and my mouth. What in the World??!!! Avoid this office, it's nothing good!! I would like to add that the office is filthy and I even saw a big cockroach crawling across the floor in the waiting room and I almost vommited. I've been a patient for over ten years and it breaks my heart to see the negative reviews. I have always felt complete taken care of, I've struggled after a major disability, and then our business was shuttered during COVID so we were relegated to Denti-Cal and still, treated with dignity and respect. The practice focuses on excellent care rather than physical improvements like the outside so bear with the older construction that can look a bit shabby. The dentists, assistants and staff make up for that ten times over. The office and treatment rooms are clean and the dentists technique is par with the highest paid dentists I've had when covered with premium policies. I never had a cavity in my life but because I told them it's been so long and I'm black yeah let's lie and say he has 10. UPDATE: 4 Days post-visit I think an area of my gums may have been scraped/cut while having one of the cavities filled. There is some pain in one area I can't chew on and I'm hoping it will subside soon. Again, the people I got to interact with and helped me were great. The work itself had a lasting affect in positive ways, and also this particularly negative way. There's no such thing as perfect! Wish me luck! Original Review: Monica at the front desk was very helpful and personable. Dr. M did my cleaning and filled my cavities all while soothing my anticipation and narrating what's coming next. I really appreciated her tone and guidance while she worked on me. Nando assisted her and was knowledgeable with any questions I had, and was a perfect teammate with Dr. M. He made sure I got rinsed and didn't drown, and was really methodical in taking my x-ray's. Overall, I'm so appreciative that my insurance covered me and that they were consistently up front about anything covered and what decisions I had in front of me. I wish I had good things to say. This office is terrible. Run. First, they tried to overcharge me. Then, they called me 2 hours before an appointment that was scheduled at least a week beforehand to cancel it. Why? Because my insurance filed a grievance against them for trying to overcharge me. Very sus. Those who do go, keep an eye on your billing. You will want to verify everything with your insurance because they may be overcharging. Went to a different dentist and before I even showed up they already had my insurance payment schedule, knew the correct copays, and took care of everything without any issues. Be aware of this company and their Billing Procedures YOU MUST BE DILIGENT - because, chances are good that they won't be. While I was working with them I was often denied insurance coverage because they had coded their insurance paperwork incorrectly. I often HAD to do the research to determine the CORRECT code and then call them with it so they could get paid and so I would not get billed. The final straw: Almost two years since my last visit with them (which my insurance paid for) I received a bill from them stating that I owed them money. The bill had no service date and it did not list the procedures that were - supposedly - unpaid (that I allegedly owed to them from 2 years ago). I asked them, "had this really been outstanding would you not have discovered it when you closed the books for THAT year rather than 2 years later?" No answer. When I asked for a detailed bill I got no answer. (but I know I owe them nothing) In Summary: I think the Hygenist (from 2 years ago) is very good I think the lady dentist is caring and tries her hardest to help I think the support straff needs additional training. And I think that G.G.S. just wanted to try to get a double payment from me. Again do beware. read more

Came here for a consultation + prophylaxis, I usually get my cleanings every 6 months, never had any pain, bleeding nor inflammation. The dentist here claimed I needed a deep cleaning and the treatment plan they offered me only included anesthetics that were not covered by my insurance, bringing the price up to hundreds of dollars vs my regular $50 deductible, I requested they used regular covered anesthetics but they refused, they also refused to perform a regular cleaning, which is what I had after going to another dentist, no issues with my teeth ever since. This would grant them 1-2 stars, but they really deserve 0 given that now, years later I am getting a bill in the mail, which does not explain the charges I'm being billed for and doesn't make any sense given that the x-rays and consultation were covered by my insurance and they didn't perform any procedure whatsoever. I´ve called them 3 times for this billing issue and the receptionist claims their manager is not there and they cannot give me any information, they also never call me back. Was overcharged almost all times I came in. They owed me a refund due to overcharging and I constantly had to keep requesting it. My insurance had to also contact them often due to overcharging me, which I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't also looking at everything. Golden State Smiles is "grand-reopening" where Smilecare once was. Golden's temporary banner just went up this week. "Smilecare" signs are still up. Delta Dental informed me i could get a dental cleaning with a slight copay. Golden State Smiles wouldn't give me a cleaning without giving me a teeth x-ray and gum exam. told me it's covered. Dental doesn't know anything about gum exam being approvable. advised me to get "code". Dental recording also advised that oral consent by Dental advisors isn't absolute guarantee claims will be paid. huh? Golden's statement that i wasn't in their system but willing to examine my gums/xray my teeth gave me pause. (i checked Dental's website, i was listed being assigned to Golden. Dental operator also confirmed this). i decided to pass on Golden, got my appointment canceled. didn't want to be surprised by bills that wouldn't be covered by Delta. read more

Do not go to this place or the Concord office. They performed oral surgery in my daughter. She was in pain for five days. No one answered their phone. Not once. Ended up driving to the office to find that she had an infection. She could've gone into septic shock. When we complained about the phones, they said corporate was helping with the load. They tried to blame it on that. Only there were five women sitting there and four phones and no one was on a single phone. No after care. No call to check in on the patient. No apology from them. I had scheduled an appointment for two of my disabled sons for Monday, May 8th, 2:00pm. The office called me on Friday afternoon, May 5th, to confirm my appointment on Monday at 8:30am!! This is NOT the appointment time I scheduled. I would never make an appointment for that early in the morning because one of my sons needs to eat (a diabetic) breakfast at that time, and the other has mental health issues whereby he cannot arise that early in the morning. My calendar says 2:00pm, May 8th, was the scheduled appointment time! I was told by one of your managers that the staff member who made the appointment is not in the office today. Of course the manager says, oh sorry, you can make another appointment or just schedule with a different dental office. If you only knew how much time, energy, and work that is for me. The reason I scheduled with this office is that its right around the corner from my home and it would be easier to get both my disabled sons to this dental office. Also, I need to go out of town briefly and needed to get them to the dentist office prior to my departure. I was appalled when I was told I did not have an appointment at 2:00pm!! It is just terrible how people are treated these days and not given the service they deserve. Workers make errors constantly--I would say every other time I do anything for my sons 9 times out of 10, it is more work and more stress because SOMEONE does not do the job they are paid to do. It's unconscionable! People just don't seem to care anymore, and they keep saying "I'm sorry", that means you made a regrettable mistake. But these types of errors go beyond mistakes and frankly, I'm tired of hearing "I'm sorry", especially when it's disingenuous. I thought I had found a new dental office! read more

Overall, I am mainly am impressed w/the dentist, Dr. M & her assistant. She is a professional, very informative and thorough in explaining what she's going to do and what she's done. Paco, her assistant, is very friendly, professional, and very service oriented. But I have several minor issues mainly w/ the office One Is the front desk/ office is not really good at answering the phone or returning calls. One time I called and it rang and rang. You have an option on the phone menu to get a call back. No one called me back. I live very close to the office. When I arrived at the office, I told the employee at the front desk I had called, she said she didn't hear it. Another issue: The last time I had dental work done, they were suppose to follow up & let me know if I am covered bridge work. I was told someone one would get back to me. I've now asked 3 times for this information, being told every time someone will get back to me. It's been 2 months & no one has called me. I give the office management a low rating in responding to patient's needs. I might consider going to another dentist considering the poor response I have (have not) gotten. Another issue: I wish they would send out reminders in advance either through email, phone calls or texts to patients, letting them know the appointment is coming up. They don't seem to have a system where they can notify a patient at least a day before their appointment and if they do, I've never experienced it. All the other medical professional offices and services I work with do this. My chiropractor sends me an email 24 hours in advance. I have Kaiser and I get two or three notices from them within two weeks of my appointment. I really wish Golden State Smiles had a system like that. Technologically I really don't think it's that difficult. These reminders would make the service more efficient & professional. The last thing is the office could use some cosmetic surgery. Paint is chipping & peeling on some of the walls. Someone here on yelp use the word shabby. They would do well to invest in an office interior decorator in making the environment more appealing. I think the dental service is great, but I think the appearance of the office should match the quality of the service. When you're in an medical/dental office, and it has high-quality customer service, and has a very attractive and pleasant interior decor, It makes the patient feel like they matter and want to come back. It also would be good for the morale of the employees. Note to marketing/management department: if you make a good impression, it'll also generate more business read more

The entire dental team is wonderful - from the front staff to the RDH and Doctor M. I appreciate that it's a small clinic because you get to really get to know everyone. Nando is really nice and informative. Dr. M is super sweet and very patient - I also feel like she's honest. I asked her about some other work another dentist did and she didn't criticize their work (because it wasn't a botched job, sadly it's just how the shape of my mouth affected the final results), but explained why my tooth may be feeling the way it is. Before I had my most recent work done, I asked her and the assistant A LOT of questions. She answered them all thoroughly and that made me confident in my decision to move forward - since I was paying out of pocket, I needed to be sure in my decision. It's been about a week and I've had no issues :) I'm actually quite pleased & look forward to coming back!! Which is something I have never said about a dentist office before. The staff are friendly enough, this low rating has more to do with policies and practices. First visit was okay. Hubby and I both had cleanings with no other findings. Did have issue with the release they had us sign though! After reading it through, I ended up having to make edits because it had me committing to pay for work when they had not even looked in my mouth. So, 1 year later and we're back for check ups and cleaning. (It should be noted that they have been in the process of a name change or transition to a new company - because their signage is all wrong and their forms all have a different name on them). Anyway for this most recent visit, they told me I needed a crown - and the price was quoted over $1,000. I thought I had coverage. Hubby was told he needed a deep cleaning @ more than $700. They attempted to pressure him to get the deep clean immediately, but we needed to leave so I could check with Delta Dental. Turns out that both of our recommended procedures are supposed to be fully covered. I called and asked for a detailed breakdown of the charges. They promised to email it and confirmed my email address. Two days later, still no info. I called back 3 times over the next couple of weeks attempting to get that cost breakdown, but they never sent it. I called and cancelled my crown appt and 3 days before that appt, they called to cancel (yes, after I had already cancelled)! We need reputable dentists that don't try to gouge on the prices. Saw Dr Dharaben Munjpara. Office constantly tried to overcharge me. Office was clean but startlingly shabby. A crown was placed that was inferior, but she assured me it was fine so I tried to get used to it. Finally sought a second opinion which I paid for out of pocket. He diagnosed, "Lingual margin of crown #24 is not seated on the prep line, and for that reason lingual margin on the tooth #24 is open." He took photos and it was clear to see he was correct. When I sought out reimbursement from my insurance company I found out that when I had gone back to Dr Munjpara and told her the edge of the tooth was uncomfortable, she did not document or chart my concern nor did she document that she used a power file on the tooth to attempt to soften the sharp edge. As a retired nurse, I found that the most shocking of all - that she would actually work in my mouth and not chart or document it. read more

I'm so unhappy with the service at this location. I went in last week and I noticed everyone was coughing in the washing their hands and I was a little worried but I needed to get my teeth cleaned. I was informed by one of the front desk staff that a few of the other staff members have tested positive but they are required to go to work. Just after getting a temporary bridge put in. These guys are the best, they were able to see me on short notice due to my bridge falling out a few days ago. They are friendly, courteous and professional. They put me at ease throughout the whole process, gave me the options on what I could do and let me know what was coming next especially the drilling. I have no issues recommending them. I only remember Fernando and Beverly's names but all were awesome. I will be back in 3 weeks for the permanent bridge. read more

Long waiting no matter you come in in the morning or afternoon. 30-40 mins wait time is common after your appointment time. Then every process takes another 15mins wait time.
