Golden Thai was good! I only tried one dish - the Yellow Curry - but no complaints. It's really more of a 3.5 star review, but I couldn't really think of any major down sides to knock it down to a 3. Technically I've had better yellow curries, but this one was definitely good. Prices are reasonable - every dish my group had was $6.95. We dined in, and the atmosphere is pretty standard for a Thai place. I guess my one complaint would be that there's no lunch specials - just the regular menu. Portion size was good and I definitely have enough for leftovers for lunch today. Success. read more

A cute little place, about 9 tables cute. A Thai restaurant, ironically in italian village. The appetizers are good, not bad. When my friend and I first got there, no one was around, we were a bit skeptical. We thought let's check it out. Here it is, my friend ordered the Catfish with curry which she liked. I had the pad thai with tofu. I think maybe I could of tried other dishes. I read the other reviews and hope to give the other dishes a try next time. Amazing Pad Thai. Great flavor and I love that it's a hole in the wall. Enough said! The Thai iced tea is spot on as well. Great spicy foods such ad the curries and soups but you can get them spicy to order. Food is usually quick but fresh. My husband loves the rice rolls which comes with a sweet chili sauce. Tried this place out for the first time tonight. The egg rolls were the tiniest egg rolls I've ever ate, they were crispy and tasty I enjoyed them. I ordered the red curry chicken, it was okay a little too watery, I've had it at a couple of places and at each it was differnt. I also had the Thai Ice Tea it was really good but would have liked the size to be a little bigger or at least less ice. Overall a decent experience, I'll probably stick to my regular Thai place but this place is worth a try! read more

So much love for Golden Thai. Delivery is always prompt, the people answering the phone are always friendly, and the food is tasty. They lose a star for changing the tom yum noodles from full container of soup/side container of noodles to full container of soup with noodles. Nitpicky, i know. Nevertheless, this is the best tom yum soup I've ever had. The panang curry is also fantastic, and the basil rice (while not terribly healthy) is super yummy. Prices are in keeping with the other Thai joints of Taylor St, but the food definitely trumps them all. read more

I visited this place with a couple of co-workers. I travel a lot and love the local mom and pops. Their cashew chicken was delicious. My favorite part of ordering was being asked if I wanted mild, med, or spicy. The med is spicy compared to most. We all ordered different menu items and everyone agreed their dish was very good. The prices are very reasonable. Don't expect white table cloths or fancy decor, just a neighborly proprietor who waves a passers by during lulls. read more

This was the first time I ordered from this place and I absolutely loved it. Food arrived on time and tasted excellent. I would highly recommend Beef Paradise and Pad Ped Catfish. Golden Experience at Golden Thai Indulging in a new tradition of empty nesters, we've been ordering out for the Holidays instead of going to the trouble of cooking. Thankful that this place was open and delivering today (Easter Sunday, 2016). Our trio had the Roasted Duck Curry spicy, the Nam Sod salad, and the Pan Fried Noodles with Chicken not spicy. I was happy with the spice level and flavor of all three because I like spicy. Our Nam Sod person thought theirs was a little too spicy, but our Pan Fried Noodle person was very happy. The quantities were a little small for the price compared with other places I am acquainted with, but good flavor and freshness. The little printed labels on each dish helped and a nice touch. There are other good restaurants in the area, but I can see myself ordering from this place again. On a par with other 'good' Thai places I've experienced. One thing I liked too is that they originally told me 45 minutes for delivery; we had the good fortune to have it here in a half hour. read more

A good place to go if you want some Thailand food. The location is great and parking is not that difficult to find. The fried rice was very great. with Shrimp and chicken was my favorite. Dong Yum Soup is a must order for me. It is a little bit sweet, though. I guess it is a little bit Americanized Thailand food. The service is always great. Pros: +Good Location for the Little Italy strip +Good Food +Fast Cons: -This place is always freezing/boiling -They could add a second door to keep the elements out -Bathroom is literally a tiny closet -Smaller than usual portions This place has excellent food and rarely disappoints as I've eaten here with friends multiple times, it's the experience that ruins it. Every time someone enters or exists, the door which leaks, allows for a gust of air to come in. When I ate here in the summer it was raining and the scent coming in from outside was not so good, in the winter I had to keep my winter gear on as I ate. What's the deal with the rice??? The portion size is TINY and they offer no refills or additional rice, literally the rice is 1/6th the size of the curry bowl. Please management if you're reading this, stop leaving the galangal(relative to ginger) in the soup, it's impossible to not have pieces in your mouth because you chop it so small. Also if you inform them the curry is too spicy, although you ordered a mild, you'll have your curry diluted by adding additional chicken broth killing the flavor. I recommend the Tom Yum Soup(get the large size it's the equivalent of 6 or so of the regular size), Pad Thai and Red Curry(probably the best I've had in Chicago) read more

The golden fried rice and fried rice noodle with beef are the greatest taste I've ever tasted. I like spicy food and they do very spicy, but the degree of spicy is far beyond my imagination as well as far beyond most of the restaurants. The next time I will choose the medium spicy not very spicy. If you chose the degree of spicy, I would recommend a lower lever. The beef in the noodled is very delicious as they maybe fried. This place must have changed owners recently because the quality of the meat is worse than before and the food is always too oily. I usually get the crispy pad see eww and I was disappoint the last few times with how much fat was in the meat. Usually it was pretty lean. Maybe it's a new cook. I miss the old one. read more

Love this place. The food is excellent and service is friendly. Been coming here for a few years and the food has never been anything but fantastic. The Pad Siew is super-saucy and the meat is cooked perfectly. And these are lean cuts, I tell you! What I like best is that they took the the chicken satay off the skewers and give you what you want: tender, flavorful chicken. The prices are reasonable and street parking is usually available via pay box. Overall, it's a small Mom & Pop Thai stop, so don't expect any fancy decor! Our first trip down Taylor St. in University Village ended at Golden Thai. The dining room is tiny and bustling and there was only one waitress on staff but the food was fast and delicious. Thai Iced tea was spot on and the Jasmine Rice Soup was so good we ordered an extra one to go. Our waitress couldn't have been sweeter (although there seems to be quite a language gap) and she was prompt and accurate in her service. We had the Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe with crispy noodles. Both were hefty lunch portions and incredibly savory. I can unequivocally recommend the Pad See Ewe but the Pad Thai was slightly over salted. If we lived down south near UIC, I imagine this would be our go to spot for takeout, delivery, and sit down. We are already planning our return in 2 weeks. read more

When I went to school at UIC, Golden Thai was the superior of 'big three' on Taylor street specifically because it was the most flavorful. Ive tried the Pad Thai at Thai Bowl and that other place and it was bland and unappealing. I have since moved on from the neighborhood, but once in a blue moon I return to Golden Thai to revisit my early twenties... Now... What to order..... 1. CRISPY PAD SI EWE. 3000 calories of crispy, savory, sweet, garlicy goodness... Get it with BEEF for the best flavor.... For the students in the area treat yourself to this wonderful orgy of flavor and awesomeness during those hard nights of studying and for everyone else just frickin try it!! Very few thai places will make this and I'm sure it has to to do with the complexity with which it is made (really it is likely 'two' whole steps, but that is apparantly one step too many for most thai places) But it is sooo good and its only like 8 bucks. 2. PAD THAI with Chicken. While certainly not the very best pad thai I have had, it is definately excellent. And I do love it. It is packed with rich peanuty flavor, and they are very generous with the chicken too. Definately enough for two good meals. I recommend having it for dinner one night, and lunch the next day. You can look at the other reviewers' recommendations to see what other people like, but please try the CRISPY PAD SI EWE with BEEF, on a night that you dont care about calories. This is one of the best places to order thai food from. I frequent this place for catering for business meetings and their food is amazing! The customer service is also fantastic! Came here with 2 friends. We ordered the Crab Rangoon as an appetizers and was pretty delicious. Everything went awry when we ordered the Pad Thai (because you can't go wrong with the pad Thai) and wow, it was probably the worst pad Thai that has ever touched my taste buds. After one bite, I immediately asked if I could exchange the plate for another one and she straight up said "No!" and showed the "No exchange No refund" print on the bottom of the menu, and walked away.
