The food was delicious. The pancakes were amazing, the bacon was cooked just right. The grandson even stated how good everything was (he is a picky eater). Great biscuits and gravy. Onceville I went to a lovely cafe in Placerville. We had all kinds of stuff on the table, but before the food, lets talk about the people. Such warm and hysterical hosts as well as the other guests. They had a kitty party or something like that on a sunday, and my god, I fell in love with the people. Just my kinda American diner. Now coming to the food, we ordered all sorts of stuff.... Great spot to get a bite before hitting Tahoe or while coming back. Staff is really nice and friendly and the food was great. Wifey really liked her cappuccino, which is a rare compliment. Location is right across a small strip mall which makes it convenient to pick other items if needed. It's wasn't crowded at all which is good feature during COVID. We waited for 15 minutes & was never approached by a server to take our orders or even offer any beverages. This used to be our favorite spot for breakfast. Recently it changed hands, and the service has deteriorated. We have tried a few times to see if things improved, but today was the last straw. There were two of us who ordered at the same time. My breakfast was served, but my spouse received his breakfast at least five minutes later. Gravy was spilled on the table, but the waitress ignored it after a couple of trips to the table. I even pointed it out to her. Then, she gave us the wrong bill. They use one of those payment machines suggesting a tip of 18% or higher on the food plus tax. I opted to leave $2 cash on the table, much less than I would have left in the past. read more

This restaurant has that old diner feel. Nothing looks updated. You walk in, they ask how many and point you to your booth. The menus are already on the table behind the condiments. My wife ordered the blueberry waffle (with whipped cream) and a side of bacon. I ordered the Waffle breakfast which included 2 eggs and 4 slices of bacon. It was busy on a sunday morning but all the food came out at a reasonable time. The service was quick and our drinks were topped off. The blueberry waffle came out with a large amount of blueberries and a small mound of whipped cream. My standard waffle came with a huge dollop of butter (Yum) and a side of maple syrup. The bacon was tasty and the blueberry waffle was delicious. Overall it's not a bad place and the prices are fair. We came out of there full and happy. read more

Apparently, according to the 3 other reviews, this place is the default second choice compared to "Sweetie Pie's."I'm no local, so I don't know these things... Honestly, I only stop at this place once or twice a year because its a casual breakfast stop off the 50 once you get through the windy part of the summit coming from South Lake Tahoe. I can vouch, however, that this place is significantly better than Denny's (shame to whoever compares the two) and the food is pretty fair for diner prices. Its like, the ultimate hangover food...not that I would know. Who drives home from Tahoe hungover? ... The biscuits and gravy are a nice change to your typical Wonderbread and Smuckers jam. The combos are pretty delish too. I split a Belgian waffle with some friends as an appetizer last time and that was AWESOME. I usually don't like stuff too sweet in the morning, but this was just plain delicious. DEFINITELY consider this place if you are getting back home in the morning. Stepped out of the oil slicked, rainy, asphalt strip of strip malls that is 2015 Placerville and directly into the low ceiling fanned, yellow uniformed, warm incandescent glow on brown and orange vinyl of 1976 Hangtown. Greeted and treated with pride and joy, start to finish. $11 for coffee, corned beef hash, house potatoes, two eggs over medium, and, somehow, an included full two biscuits and gravy, all tasting exactly the way it should (Sysco, not Frisco). An excellent and accurate execution of the greasy spoon ethos, and a living period piece on the way things used to be, at the price it used to cost. Next time you see an Applebees commercial with smiling young faces on minimum wage workers, serving golden retriever soccer practice families perfectly arranged plates of steaming signature dishes, know that joints like Golden Waffle are the mother substance on which that fake, focus group, corporate form is directly based. read more

Went to this place on the way home from camping. When first coming in I was excited to have a homemade breakfast but was quickly disappointed. The service was great and the order was done right but the food is anything but great. It's all completely average stuff I could make better in my own kitchen. My mother got the waffles and liked them but she agreed they weren't anything special. Another huge thing that bugged me was the fact the booth we sat in had ants on the table. Really just bothered me that we had to see that right before we were about to eat. If you come here expect nothing but your basic average food and flavor. read more

I tried this place recently when the wait at Sweetie Pie's was almost an hour, and I wasn't willing to wait that long. I ordered the waffle combo, which is waffle, 2 eggs, and bacon or sausage. The waffle wasn't bad. The eggs were sort of blah, and the bacon was a little soggy, but still tasty, since it was still bacon. :-) The big downer for me was that the syrup wasn't real maple syrup, but some Mrs. Butterworth type crap. I find it hard to get past that. The prices are really good, and the service was quick, despite how busy the place was, which is why it gets 2 stars. If I could give 2 and a half, I would, but since it doesn't compare with Buttercup Pantry (4 stars) or Sweetie Pie's (5 stars), I just can't make the leap to 3 stars. Like an earlier reviewer, I strongly prefer Sweetie Pie's, but this place is an okay back-up, and I wouldn't argue too hard if someone else really wanted to go here. read more

Solid waffle. Sucky service. the hubs and I visited Pville and hit up this place with some friends for breakfast. The service is good awful. Like bad. Its just a bunch of young kids running around (or at least in our area) They seemed disorganized and clueless. We gave our drink order to our waitress and sat and waited and waited. Another girl came by and asked if we had given our drink order to any one, we told her we had, she took it again for us, but started laughing at my husband and I as we had both ordered a coffee, a water and a juice. She thought we were joking, we told her we weren't. Whatev. The food came out pretty quickly. My waffles was decent. I ordered the pecan and bacon waffle. They mix bacon right into the batter which is tasty but could have used a bit more bacon, you could hardly taste it in there. The hubs got the chicken fried steak, I stole a couple bites of it and it was excellent! The batter was very light and fluffy. You cant go wrong eating here, just be aware that the service will not be attentive. read more

Cute waffle shop on the way to South Tahoe. Came here at the butt-crack of dawn (6am) to grab some quick breakfast before snowboarding at Sierra. I got the BACON PECAN WAFFLE and a cup of coffee. The waffle was excellent - light, airy, and slightly crisp with chunks of pecan in every bite and bits of bacon (not in every bite though). There was another piece of bacon that was laid top of the waffle as well. Service was quick and efficient. Not a bad pit stop. Total = $10 after tax and tip. read more
