It's an old place, but the torn vinyl seats are a bit of a turn off. The server took our drink order promptly. When the burgers arrived, mine was still rather raw in the middle despite my ordering it medium. The server said the grill was still warming up and replaced the burger with much greater speed. Fries were mediocre. The server was also tending bar and dealing with deliveries, so service after the initial ordering was kind of slow. I felt like she could use another employee's help. I have been dying to go to this place ever since I drove by it a couple years ago. I finally got a chance to go in and get a beer and take a look around. Of course the ambiance is your typical shot and beer joint, the clientele are fun, conversational and local. The beer was cold, the TVs are big. Just right to watch a game. The only thing that I was disappointed with is the size of the actual bar. From outside I figured it would have a really long bar that everyone could sit at. I saw this place has been around since 1874 and thought there's no way this building is that old! It must have been in another nearby long gone building back in those days when Romeo Plank Road was literally wood planks. Well, I had it ass backwards. This building really is that old but it's only been a tavern since the 1940s. It also spent decades with another name before changing ownership and becoming Goldie's Saloon. There's your limited Yelp history lesson. I've been here a couple times, to watch the NCAA men's basketball championship game a couple years ago and the Daytona 500 earlier this week. I was really into watching motorsports from 2005 til around 2010 and then the obsession waned but I'll very infrequently check out a race. Goldie's seemed like it would draw a NASCARy crowd and indeed there were a few avid watchers, including a guy behind me mansplaining restrictor plates and drafting to his significant other. I've had both menu items featured on Goldie's sign. The fish and chips were mighty tasty and the burger was solid. I've had better but I would put it somewhere in the upper echelon of bar burgers in the metro area. A buzzed up racing fan at the bar was raving about the burgers, though, nursing brown liquor on the rocks, bragging about how his 82 year old mother in law was waiting for him to bring the carry out before him on the bar, saying she liked Big Boy when it wasn't even "real food" like they have at Goldie's. I don't know about all that but I probably would rather eat at Goldie's than at Big Boy. The food is better and you're likely to get some entertainment, too. There's no windows here and the interior has that classic dive bar look. There's comical signs celebrating vice. They even got red Naugahyde booths. The thing I love about this type of windowless saloon is it could easily be in Detroit's Eastern Market, a single traffic light town up north or out in Macomb township where seas of parking and every chain store imaginable, often repeating themselves if you drive far enough down nearby Hall Road, have sprouted up from what was once just farmland surrounding this humble old two story building. The bartender has been the same on both my visits, a shorter gal with dark hair and she's done a fine job both times. I get the feeling she's been at this a few years. Goldie's has your standard touchscreen jukebox and a golfing video game some guys in the back where just going apeshit over. They also got geeked when I played Primus. How can I not play Jerry Was a Racecar Driver while guys are doing lap after lap after lap around a tri-oval? The men's room here really shows the building's age, it's the tiniest commode this side of Lafayette Coney Island. Not so much a problem for a trim guy like me but I imagine they get their share of guys built like their oversized pickups in here. I don't know if I'll ever go back to Goldie's. It's kind of one of those deals where I want to say I've been there but if I'm around that neck of the woods I wouldn't mind going back. Ok. So I have lived within five miles of this place for 50 years or better. Never stopped. Today, unfortunately, I broke that streak. They advertise "best burgers" but nay nay I say. I ate less than half as the beef tasted old/bad/something not right. The chili was ok. This is a dive bar, no silverware, just plastic. Styrofoam bowl for the chili (wasn't bad actually), paper plates. The Kitchen is a small grill behind the bar which I assume the entire menu is prepared. Decided to stop in for a burger with the wife for dinner as we have not been to Goldies in a number of years. They now charge an additional 3.69% to the bill if you use a credit card. The basket of fries was hardly enough for one person and overpriced at $4.25. The burgers were not seasoned and overpriced as compared to other local bars and most likely looked like those of a frozen verity. Poor beer selection and one of the craft beers I tried had a skunky taste. Only had one person tending bar, cooking the food, and serving the tables. Not going back anytime soon and should have stuck with our standby, Shamrocks in Utica who have superior burgers, fries, a broader selection of beers, cooks and serving staff at a much more competitive price and a better vibe. Sadly, Goldies has jumped the shark and not worth the trip down memory lane! read more

First time back after 15 years had a lot of other joints to check out . The atmosphere is the same great old school dive bar. The burgers, fish and chips and beer are the center of attraction as it should be. The joint is small therefore the service is good !! I had the fish and chips which was excellent! but I'm bias, it's a favorite one of mine. The prices are reasonable for today's cost. Will be back again soon this time, for my down to earth old school fix !!! read more

Goldie's has been here as long as I can remember! I remember getting carry out hamburgers (they are known for them) from here before I was even old enough to drink! It is a small hole in the wall type of bar. You won't find anything fancy here. You will find good drinks and good food. A place to go hang with friends and just chill and chat. Rudest waitress I have ever had. Terrible service, completely un accommodating. Claimed "you better know what you want because the kitchen is closing in 10 minutes", at 6pm. Food was ok. Waitress demanded 20% gratuity and wrote it in herself. I do not believe she deserved 1%. She slammed drinks on the table. Demanded that we "remember" what we got if we didn't answer her .5 seconds. And yelled at us to pass it down. She spilled drinks on our table and did not apologize or offer napkins to clean up. She also told us to "calm down" when we asked for the bill. It seemed she was offended by our presence. When taking our orders she said "read the menu" when asking any questions. She gave us one menu and refused to split the bill. When we ordered the bill she asked what cheese we wanted and said "whatever" and walked away before we said. Staff & customers at Goldies are very friendly and nice. Our waitress was awesome! The fish was very pricey dive bar fish & chips though at about $17 a meal. That does not include a drink, just fries. You do get 3 Nice thick cuts of fresh fried cod! The cod itself was a very high quality fish. I'm not sure where they get it, but it is a very good thick cut of cod! The breading is old school style thick breading, but you can tell it was all made fresh. Some like that style breading and some don't, so to each their own. The meal was Too much food for most, so we all had tons of left overs. They didn't have a 2 piece option available. That would have worked perfect for the kids who came just for the fish, due to the proximity to the house. My only complaint would be the Fries. At this price very high prive point, you would expect much better fries. But these are just the huge bag of batter dipped style thin fries you can but at any big box store. IMO, The fries are a critical part of a fish & chips dinner, and these fries just didn't work for any of us. My kids LOVE fries, but they wouldn't even eat these. So that's not saying much at all. The rest of the meal was very good though and the thick cuts of fish were good. So we will definitely go back once they resolve the frie situation! SUMMARY: We finally tried it due to weather/roads. The fish/Cod was awesome & high quality. Nice THICK cuts. The breading is outdated, but old school style. The fries are absolutely horrendous frozen garbage. Tgei prices are EXTREMELY high at over $17 a meal after a credit card fee, wth no 2 piece menu option available?!? Stopped in here after bowling and to recon for our league for a safe place to hang out after bowling; however, the staff/bartender did not enforce the mask policy! There are signs inside and outside that state masks are required! There was a large group, who the bartender obviously knew, that walked around without masks! All others went to/from the restroom, along with coming in and going out, with a mask on! Since customer safety is not a priority, this place is off limits as long as the pandemic is going on! Hopefully, the owner will do what's right and put a response to this message, within 12 hours (currently 1245 am est on 10/2/2020) and state that safety measures will be strengthened and customers will follow the rules! Goldies is just what the doctor ordered to survive the winter. I have to admit, I had low expectations for this bar when my fella wanted to meet some friends for drinks the other night. However, I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The inside is all wood paneling and stocked with plenty of hockey games. Cozy! This is the kind of bar where people of all ages go to just kick back, probably after a long day of work. I could come here with my girlfriends or my parents and I like that. We all need more options right? They have your typical bar food. Mostly fried things and burgers. Great prices though... think $5 for a whole meal. I didn't get any food but my companions did. Everyone ordered chicken strips and fries, which they gobbled down in record time. I was assured that each plate was exactly what they wanted. I just had a few PBR's with lime. They were cheap at $3.50 a bottle. The staff were all warm and friendly and some reunion of sorts was happening at several tables in the middle. My 1st time here - I tried a "1/3 lb. Burger with a handful of fries". It was listed as one of the $5 meals on the menu. I think my buddy had the same. Anyway, the meals came out pretty quick and mine was devoured before I had a chance to take a picture. I can't speak to the beer prices, because we each had uncarbonated soft drinks. Danielle did a great job keeping everything going. She was the bartender/waitress/cook all wrapped into one. When we walked in, there were no other patrons. Then two, then two more and pretty soon there were nearly a dozen guys, all having lunch before heading off on their merry way. The brick building has been there for as long as I can remember, way back in the days of two-lane Hall Road and two-lane Romeo Plank Road. Inside, the decor reminded me of the oldtime bars that used to be out this way - old wood ceilings, wood paneled walls,wooden floors. The bar can seat a dozen or so, but there are plenty of tables and booths to handle everyone else. TVs are mounted in various locations to take in sports and local news. We were far from home and drove by this fascinating old school bar. Of course, we needed to stop. This looks like an Up North bar...lots of wood and brick with red vinyl booths. As luck would have it, it was happy hour and well drinks were $3.50. We had our usuals and ordered the fish and chips. I can confidently say I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. The woman working was was rude, disrespectful, and cruel. She kept demanding that we "remember" what we order when serving us, slammed drinks down, and even spilled drinks on us from doing so. She offered no apology or napkins to clean it up. She also said that gratuity was "built in" to the receipt, but she hand wrote in her own tip, offering us no pen to dispute it. Which is legally questionable. Avoid this place at all cost. Definitely not what it used to be. This used to be the place where you could go for a fantastic "bar" burger at a decent price. Stopped in after a few years to have one of those burger with some family and friends expecting one of those burgers and what we got was a preformed frozen burger with no flavor at all. I visited this place once about a year and a half ago with my friend Kelly, and was pleasantly surprised by how laid back the joint was. Kelly and I had been working out a lot during that time period, and we both were watching what we out in our bodies (insert dirty joke here). I was coming home late from work (somewhere between 11-12), when Kelly called and asked if I wanted to hang for an hour or so bc she couldn't sleep. Because I hadn't eaten in over 7 hours, I used Yelp to find somewhere and Goldie's popped up. While the crowd was not the type I like to spend time with (white trash meets Farmer Jack), I have to admit that my prejudices were quickly subsided by how pleasant everyone was. First off the kitchen had officially been closed for nearly 10 mins, but the woman behind the counter made sure that I still received a cheeseburger, onion rings and coleslaw. Was it the best? No. Was it good? Yes; especially when you factor in the location and time. While the decor sucked, the guests and staff were great. I'm not often proven wrong, but when I am I admit to it, and Goldie's definitely deserves a look if you are in the area (particularly if your options are limited). read more

Been here quiet a few times. Sometimes are better than others, but we always have a good time. Drinks are strong and a good price, beer was so cold it nearly hurt my teeth. The burgers are amazing, loaded with all the toppings. It's best to catch the burger deal during lunch hours, as they run special for it with a handful of fries. Other wise the 1/3lb burger is $6.50 by itself and another $2.95 for the fries. The staff is quick and efficient, even when they get busy- which it always has been every time I've been there! They have TVs for your sports and Keno to press your luck at. It's been a community staple since before there was paved roads- I kid you not!! Their sign boasts about their fish- as it should. It's 3 generous pieces of fresh cod, hand dipped in their own special batter and fried fresh. Paired with some hot and crispy and fries, and washed down with a ice cold one of your choice, you can't go wrong. It's family friendly, there's booths and tables alike, but I wouldn't come too late with the kids, as it can get a little loud. Bathrooms could use an update, but again, Goldie's is an oldie but goodie! Definitely a place worth stopping for a bite if you're ever near it. Or having a few adult beverages with friends. Probably one of the WORST burgers I have ever had... I dont know if they ran out of the good ones, but this one tasted like a crappy frozen burger that had been in the freezer for a year. I was VERY dissapointed, especially since the sign outside reads 'great burgers' or 'best burgers in the world'.. i dont know exactly what it said, but whatever it did say was a lie. My fiancé and I have been here on multiple occasions, and it is always for the fish and chips. Their fish and chips are the best I've ever had! They aren't mushy, and aren't all breading. Just sprinkle with malt vinegar and salt, and have a beer and you're good to go. The service here has always been impeccable. My servers have all been extremely friendly and fairly quick. We settled on Goldies, after hitting 4 (FOUR!!) other places that were either, completey empty (where was everyone on Saturday!), Completely stupid (Amstel was their only beer on tap!! - new waitress!), Uber expensive (I'm paying how much for that beer??), Wrong (all together), or any combination of the four! I've been here a few times over the years and it's basically your typical dive bar. They have a long history (been open since 1874) and lots of cool stuff all over the walls and a few TVs as well. There's a lot of spots for sitting and the drinks aren't expensive either! They have a good selection of generic bar food too and have the fryers right behind the bar where you can see them make it. The Goldie burger was top 5 best burgers I have ever had!
