So far the best deli style restaurant I've been to in the middle Tennessee area. You can tell they use fresh ingredients all the way down to the bread. Golds Deli is a staple of my trips to Columbia. The owner is fantastic to discuss with and really wants to have a unique deli experience for the Columbia population. The food is ALWAYS so fresh and delicious, I typically get the Italian sandwich, but I opted for the Golds special sandwich this time. When I say this sandwich is massive, I am talking pounds of pastrami/corned beef. Typically not a cole slaw fan but adds a nice textural difference for this sando, the thousand island was a nice addition as well. You can either sit in at the counter and chat with the staff, or take it to go. It gives a new modern take on the old school deli counter seat. Seating is super limited! A Hidden Gem in Columbia! We recently stopped by this New England-style deli, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth sharing! I had The Original sandwich -- warm corned beef on rye with Swiss cheese -- and it was absolutely outstanding. The corned beef was tender, perfectly seasoned, and piled high on the bread. I learned about Gold's Deli from one of my customers a couple of years ago. She said it was THE BEST deli in Middle Tennessee. I love trying out new places to get my grub on, and she wasn't lying! Their sandwiches are incredible. Some might say they're "pricey" but not for the amount of food you get!! Their sandwiches are huge and are often enough food for two! I have quite the appetite, so that's saying a lot for me. If you don't take it to-go, there's a bar that you can sit at to enjoy your food, or you can take it outside to the picnic tables around the back on a nice day. I usually order the FAT ANDY on a Sub Roll with Turkey, Pepperjack Cheese, Jalapenos, Lettuce, Jalapeno Chips, and Chipotle Mayo, but all of their sandwiches are amazingly delicious and quite filling. It seems like all the sandwich shops are now skimming on the meat, but not this place. They filled that sandwich so full I couldn't only eat half. Which was great because I had a half for dinner. It's not a big place so don't come looking for tables to sit back and relax. They have 4-5 barstools at the counter and that's it. It was great for us because we got to eat and chat with them. This place is exactly like their slogan; small but mighty. You walk in and are promptly greeted by the friendly staff. You can eat at a couple counter bar stools or order to go. The menu is not vast, but the sandwiches are. I don't even know how I finished a whole one for lunch and dinner and I don't regret it either. The sandwich was piled high with warm corned beef and the Swiss cheese was slightly melty, over the dressing and sauerkraut. It's one of the best I've ever had. We drove an hour to try Golds Deli, I wish I could write a more favorable review, For lack of a better word, the pastrami was flavorless, my husband had a pastrami/corned beef combo, same deal no flavor. Since we had never been there before, we were expecting a restaurant, it's not, it's basically a take out place, which is fine, but after driving an hour, not fun sitting outside in the heat to eat our lunch....they do have a small bar with stools to eat at, but was full when we came to eat. My foodie family came by today and ordered five sandwiches. I customized the special and put it on a hoagie. Absolutely loved it. It could've used a third more dressing, but it was just fantastic. Took a ride to Columbia to visit Gold's Deli. Saw a few posts about this spot, pictures were "WOW", and when I hear the word "grinder" being tossed about I'm in. Arrived late in the afternoon and met George Kougias who is the owner and the place has been open about 10 weeks. The place is small...pony up to the counter which seats about 6 and they have some outdoor seating. Enjoyed talking with George, he knows food having been in the food industry for many years. Seems the Reuben and Gold's Special (pastrami) are popular...it was sold out. I had already decided on the Italian Hero and watched George artfully stuff that roll was with so much meat and veggies was magical. I asked for the oil/vinegar on the side so if I only did half it wouldn't be soggy. The meat...delicious and you could taste all of the different flavors while the veggies used were fresh, plentiful, and complimented the sandwich. The roll is soft and good, but not quite a traditional Grinder Roll. It's going to be a tough one to solve, but the roll they use is solid and holds together well. What makes this sandwich different??? For me a couple of things like purple onions, oil/vinegar that also includes seasoning, and a pepper relish that puts this sandwich over the top. I only ate half and took the other half home for a late night snack. George shared with me his version of potato salad...mustard base which normally is not my favorite. When I tasted it I was blown away, lightly sweet, creamy, great flavors, and you barely tasted the mustard. I must admit, this is the best mustard based potato salad I've ever enjoyed. While they have a brand of chips called Dirty Deli Style and they are awesome...grab the potato salad as a side and you will be sooooo happy. Great food, excellent service, and a simple but solid menu...well worth a drive to Columbia or a visit if you're passing through. read more

1st time going here and I have mixed feelings. $24 for a sandwich, side of potato salad and a drink. If I wasn't going home with it I wouldn't get another simply because it had so much meat that 1/2 a sandwich would fill me up. It's hard to taste the sour kraut or dressing with so much meat. I actually took a lot of the meat off and made 3 more sandwiches with it! I suppose if you're young with a teenager's appetite it would be great, but at my age it's just too much! As a former Southern Californian, I'd like to think I have good taste when it comes to deli food. I finally decided to try Golds in Columbia. When you arrive, it's literally this counter where to order and that's it for the restaurant. There's some bar seating and seating outside. The service was good and the food came out quickly, however we arrived right when they opened. My wife ordered the Ruben and I ordered the Italian Hero. On the positive side - great portion sizes for the money. The downside however is the flavor and quality of the food. The Ruben was a bit flavorless as the meat tasted like it was just purchased from a grocery store. The Italian also tasted very store-bought. There's really nothing special about the sandwiches, and you're better off going to another deli in the area. read more

Gold's had been on my way to try list for a while, and I was finally going to be in Columbia so it was the perfect time to stop. However, I guess it was on many other list as well and recently gained some popularity online, because rumor has it they've been selling out of items regularly (which is a good sign for a small businesses success)! When we arrived we were glad to see they weren't completely sold out for the day, but were out of a few items, but easily made due with what they still had to offer for the day. I tried Abe's favorite on sourdough (sub rolls were sadly an item that had already sold out for the day) and friends got the Italian Hero on sourdough. The sandwhiches are stacked high and packed full of meats and toppings, the combination of toppings are thoughtful and high quality, and everything tasted amazing! It can be hard to find a great sandwich, because making a sandwich just feels like such an easy concept, but when you find a truly great sandwich that has a lot of thought put into the combination and quality of ingredients it really sticks out, and that's what they are serving at Gold's - truly great sandwiches! The customer service was warm and welcoming! The drink options also were carefully chosen with a focus on quality - who doesn't love a glass bottle cream soda!
