This Southeast Austin gold's gym location has been in this strip mall for over 20 years. It has everything you need and it's right off of I-35 so if I'm in the area passing through it's always a good option. It is a little bit outdated compared to some of the other ones so I wouldn't make this your home base but the staff is friendly and if you have the multi gym membership this will definitely serve your needs and have all the equipment that you're used to. It might not have a lot of the new cardio equipment or special equipment but you can definitely get a solid workout in if that's your goal! read more

It's a pretty bare bones gym, but it has everything you'll need to workout. I would recommend adding more bench and squat racks though as wait times can be long. The building itself is also dated. Staff is friendly. Restrooms and locker rooms are surprisingly clean. The sauna too which is rare (and co-ed). I also appreciate that the temperature is usually cool since Texas is hot and humid. Gym could be cleaner - there's a mustiness and pervasive smell. In addition, the music played is too high in volume at times. Parking is plentiful. read more

Used to be the best Gold's (to lift at) in Austin. Sadly not the case anymore. The music is deafening to the point it drowns out your headphones. Management has informed me that corporate forces them to keep it at a high volume to promote a "high energy atmosphere ". Dumbbells are routinely missing or used as doorstops to prop up makeshift hip thrust stations. Staff can't be bothered to walk the floor once every couple of hours to locate/return them. You're SOL if you want to use a pair of 60s or 30s because they seem to have vanished forever. It still feels like a gym and not a health club, which is good, but it would be nice if management actually cared about maintaining a clean weight floor. read more

Hella shady, rundown place. Locker room is perpetually coated in a thick layer of grease and slime, and oh yeah, be sure to take a picture of your form when you cancel. Went here around 6pm, still frightened to be in a gym during covid, and there were people blatantly NOT WEARING MASKS. On the treadmills, on the gym floor. I saw at least 5 people without a mask on, for an extended period of time. Not just to have a drink of water. The mask stayed off. When I asked the desk if they do walk throughs to enforce mask wearing, he told me "someone needs to be at the front desk". So "being at the front desk" is more important than a 5 min (maybe every 30-60 mins) walk through to enforce mask wearing and the safety of your members? Really? I saw a sign that said "your safety is our number one priority". If you aren't doing regular walk throughs during ALL of your hours to enforce mask safety, you aren't doing enough to keep me safe in your gym. A 5 minute walk through is not a lot to ask every 30-60 mins. read more

This gym isn't bad. It's never crowded when I go in, and there are plenty of machines. That being said, all the machines are old and the place is dingy. It feels like a dungeon, but I can still get a work out in, so it does the trick. Staff is pretty friendly to. read more

I love this gym. Can you please add a GHD and thruster machine? I believe adding the thruster machine will free up floor, bench and bar space from all the people currently doing it a different way. GHD machine will help get rid of some of the outdated Ab and lower back machines. Plus they aren't very expensive. read more

I am appalled at the lack of empathy and customer service displayed by the Manager at this location. Mark was unnecessarily cold and unhelpful. I can imagine the amount of calls y'all are getting asking for refunds and handouts-I too run a membership based business. However, there are kinder ways to communicate to your guests. After signing up in January I contemplated cancelling as I just wasn't satisfied with the equipment and the "remodel" they had. I had taken a break from my membership earlier last year. I reached out to the front desk in late February to inquire about cancelling my membership, see what options I had etc...After giving all my information (twice-it seemed like the person I was speaking to was new or nervous) they were clearly frustrated. They CLEARLY told me they would let their manager know and they would get my membership "taken care of." I received a charge 3/15. THEY CLOSED THEIR DOORS THE NEXT DAY. I couldn't get a hold of corporate, anyone at the gym. No one. I just received a charge AGAIN today (and NOT on what would have been my normal draft date). I called and spoke to a kind front desk associate who said her manager wasn't in but she would leave a message. Fast forward two hours later...almost NOON. I called again-and was told "Oh, sure he JUST got in" and then transfers me. Que Mark. Listens for a split second, assumes I'm lying and insists his training is SO perfect his staff would never say something like that. Then has the audacity to say "We get these calls all the time. They're not true. We don't cancel over the phone." So okay. It's my fault for not following up and trusting your perfect staff to cancel my account....but you had ZERO empathy. I'll eat the charge for March because CLEARLY I'm not getting that back. Shame on you for charging me and then closing up shop and giving us zero way to get in touch. This feels so scammy and unethical. But the weird $30 something dollar charge on my account NOT on my draft date? Zero help. Shame on you Mark. To corporate: I HIGHLY encourage you to enroll Mark In a customer service course and to re-evaluate who is on your leadership team. You claim your community is important to you. This place is always packed doesn't matter what time of day, not to mention with people who just sit on the machines just looking at their phones. It's truly upsetting how more & more golds is becoming more of a planet fitness which is a huge turn around from what the gym started as. I was in there doing my sets with chalk & I got approached three times about using the chalk? It has never been an issue I have been going to golds for 7 years now & never have I been told I can't use chalk... Moving to Austin and looking for a new gym. I signed up for the free pass, I got a call from them confirming the time I would come in so they could give me a tour of the place. I informed them I had just moved and looking for a new gym but my address still had San Antonio. He said he would call the regional manager and the gym manager and that it wouldn't be a problem. I purposely left work early to make it in. I got there, the girl upfront was so unfriendly and without even a word picked up the phone spoke to the manager about my address. Sounding like I was an inconvenience.. When the manager came in, he was rude and unapologetic - straight out said no. I told him what I had been told and he said "I don't know why they would say that." If I had been informed of what I needed (proof of new address) ahead of time and perhaps the entire staff not been so rude I would go back with said evidence. Instead just wasted my time. I dislike writing negative comments, but I see no other way of letting others know about the "kids club" and the experiences we've been having. I know it's not a licensed child "care" facility, but when we walk in we aren't greeted with "hello" or "hey guys" or anything remotely friendly. Instead my children are greeted with, "there will be no fighting today or y'all are out of here". My children are 4 and 5. Yeah, a tough age, but I feel anybody can watch them for an hour. Then, when it was time to leave she barked at them to "clean up their mess" without so much as a "please" or "thank you." You'd think this would just be one person, but all the people assigned to work in the "kids club" are rude and seen genuinely disinterested in being in charge of children and people like that really shouldn't be in charge of children. My children are 4 and 5, but know when people are being mean to them or don't like them. Which is not how any child should feel. We have brought this up with manager, but they obviously don't realize how bad it is or just don't care. Either way, treating people with respect should be common practice for any place of business. read more

The biggest issue I have with this location is the constant mildewy/humidity problem. It gets so disgusting I can't even tolerate it. I haven't been in over a year because of it. I go out of my way to other locations. Last time I had to go to the front desk to ask the guy to turn all the fans on (so much humidity the windows were completely fogged over, and pardon my French, but smelled like mildewy ball sac. Seriously.), anyways the guy looked at me and said "you can turn them on yourself"... really? You're right, all 5'3" of me can reach up to the fans on the top of the wall (no wall switch). You say: "Yes ma'am I can turn the fans on". That's customer service. Also, you work there, you should be turning all the fans on all the time. It should be part of your morning open check list. I seriously dislike giving bad reviews, but something has to be said and done about the "child care" at this particular location. The gym itself is great. The people who go there and the overall atmosphere is typical gym. My major hiccup is only with All the ladies that are there to watch sometimes a room full of children. I literally cringe when I decide to go to the William Cannon and i35 location just because I hate leaving my child there. They are so unfriendly, never smiling, and never show an interest towards any of the kids they watch. All they seem to do is gossip amongst themselves and scour anytime "another" child comes in. I live less than five minutes from this location and will deliberately avoid my local gym simply to have more approachable women to trust my child with. I'm very happy to have this membership, being a single mom, and be able to take care of myself. I just hate the emotional cost I put my child in every time I dare visit this location. read more

After a while today, i decided to join boot camp class. It was fun until a lady decided to interrupt class. Because apparently we weren't out of the studio. Bodypump class starts at 9 am it was 8:40 am. After we were done with boot camp, yet she had the nerve to keep mumbling and complaining that she was going to get Covid. This is very upsetting her name is jennette idk her last name. I really hope that someone takes care of this situation. After an increase in membership fees, I decided to cancel the family account. I first tried speaking with someone to reassess the rate but he didn't understand the new rates. I had to go back several times because each time I tried to cancel, the manager wasn't there (I guess only the manager can cancel the membership). I cancelled in August 2017, last bill would be in September and last day to use the gym would be 11/4/17. I found out that I was billed 3 times in October. I called to confirm why I was charged. First they couldn't find my account so they had to call me back. Then they told me that they had just received my termination the day before! Luckily, I had the email termination from back in August to support the fact that I had terminated my membership back in August rather than several days ago. After looking into it (they had to call me back again), they assured me that my account was closed and I wouldn't be charged again. I had to dispute the charges with my credit card company rather than go through Gold's (they asked for my statement to confirm the charges and said they had to go through corporate) after they confirmed the termination was accurate. I also got a new credit card just in case. I just got an email this morning stating they tried to bill me again but was declined (rightfully so)! Do not get a membership here! They are hard to get a hold of, do not understand their "new" program and always have to refer to a single person for answers! read more

I went to the other Gold's location on W William Cannon for a long time, but decided to try this one out finally. It looks a little run down because of the shopping center that it's located in, but when you walk inside it's very nice. It's clean, the machines are new and it rarely is super busy! The locker rooms are huge and there is a GGX studio, a cycle studio and a women's room. The only reason this location didn't receive a 5 star is that they don't have a cardio cinema, which I like at the W William Cannon location. The staff is very friendly here and they are willing to work with you if you have questions! read more

This has been home for me since 2007. Sure this place has had ups and downs but the staff is so friendly and frankly there are some scary looking characters in there. Walk up to them and ask for a spot or what their split is and they are happy to help. Just super friendly. A full wall of windows makes it light and cheerful. They are working diligently to repair all equipment. Just got a whole new set of dumbbells. Just great all around. Agree with one other reviewer about the temperature. The mens locker room is even colder than the gym floor. I like to shower before getting in my car so I don't get it all sweaty but often think twice. When you're wet it's pretty uncomfortable. All in all it's a great gym with lots of equipment and nothing like the overcrowded Instagram Golds over on Congress and Slaughter. It's an old school gym with friendly people made for folks who just want to lift! read more

This gym is breaking every city ordinance passed as law in Texas. There are no paper towels, no sanitizing Bottles and no soap in the bathroom to wash your hands. Most people here are not wearing masks and they have ONE 16 year old kid at the counter to handle the 30+ people not following social distancing protocols in this gym. High ceilings allow for minimal stinkiness. Large workout area with multiple racks and large dumbbell area. This is my fav. Back in Highschool Gold's was awesome. They cared. Prepandemic it wasn't great. This location featured staff members that seemed annoyed when you ask anything. Also you may be laughed at by the Chicas working here if you are trying to get back into shape and you are white. Yep, this actually happened to me and another dude, several times. The manager doesn't care about any of this. A friend worked under him and was verbally abused on the regular. Also Gold's gym headquarters stated in an Austin Newspaper, that at the beginning of the Pandemic, membership fees would be suspended. They were not. I called to cancel over the phone because we are still in a pandemic. They said I had to come in. Not all people have been able to get vaccines at their doctors and can risk it. (It is written in the small print they they can do that.) Even after I cancelled and de-authorized they continued charging me for months. When I called to dispute the charges, they were not helpful. Lazy Sunday mornings are for slow rolls to farmer's markets, brunches, and movies - riiiiiight after a quick workout. That's why Boni's killing it with us in Attack class at Gold's. This justifies bottomless-mimosa mistakes. After class I feel pretty much attacked, either by 2-3 large bulls or a rogue league of street fighters. I've done the Wednesday classes too, but the audience is generally less conditioned and focused on form. For some reason it makes it seem less challenging, but you'll still get it working. The rooms have dehumidifiers and thank baby Jesus, because I usually spend the whole hour chasing after my breath. I can never catch it. Clean gym, good classes, televisions in the girl's locker room (oooooo) and cardio and lifting machines galore. You're alright, Gold's. read more

How do you rate a gym? Doesn't it depend on what you're looking for and what your fitness goals are? Gold's gym is a good gym, it's not the best, it doesn't have all the fancy pants stuff like a rock wall (which is too bad), but the Tech ridge location does have a cardio room that regularly plays movies. Anyway, this gym is a decent gym, it has cardio classes, spin classes, and the standard stuff that all gyms have. You get what you pay for and I didn't want to shell out more than 50 bucks a month just so I can go inside. With that said, my review is biased. I have and currently train with Brandyn Green at this location and he is awesome. Probably so awesome that it pushed up the star rating. I can't separate the trainer from the gym. He makes working out fun, not to mention my bum looks pretty damn good. I used to have sucky upper body strength, but that's been remedied too. Seriously, I'm so sexy that it hurts. If you live south of the river, check this gym out, but more importantly, if you are interested in personal training, look Brandyn up (and no, he did not pay me nor does he know that I'm even yelping about this). I've also noticed that the classes don't get as full here. I took spin monday at 8 once and there were only 6 people in it. Don't hold me to that on the weekends though. read more

Ok, it's no "Lifetime Fitness", but seriously for the money you just can't beat Gold's. I hit it up about 4 times a week and no matter what location (I go between 3 in the Austin area) there is always a clean, available machine for me to work out on, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are exactly what they promise to be. I also enjoy the classes -- my favorite being Body Pump. If you're looking for something with swimming pools and tennis courts then this may not be the place for you, but if you're looking for multiple locations around Austin, good regular exercise classes, and workout equipment all at a reasonable price then Gold's is your best bet. read more

The equipment in this location is always in poor condition. What's worse is they do not seem to use any out of order signs on faulty equipment. Most of the machines have loose bolts or are simply worn out. Leg presses with no treads, chest fly machine with a wobbly seat, the free weights for barbells are never organized regardless of time of day. This evening I was doing seated leg curl and in the middle of a movement, using only medium weight, the safety enabled and the leg mechanism dropped. I wasn't hurt but easily could have been if the weight had been higher. Many of the treadmills and ellipticals are non functioning at any given time. The worst part is the "trainers" and staff seem to be simply warm bodies in the gym. They do not walk the area. Therefore, people drop weights, shout, and slam machines. This exacerbates the faulty machine dilemma. I've tried many gyms in the area and this place is worse than the planet fitness nearby. There is simply no sane reason for this to be your main gym. If I didn't get a severely discounted membership through work, I'd have cancelled tonight. Needless to say I'll not be visiting this location and will instead travel further to the downtown location. I've been to different Golds Gyms around Austin, but my experience with this one is by far my worst. Note, this Golds Gym is nearly 2 minutes from my house so it's the most convenient. However, I will drive to the one on West William Cannon and MoPac or the one in Westlake before I ever step foot in this one again. I've been a member for 2 years now through a deal with our company. The deal, as to my understanding, allows unlimited guest privileges as long with a max 1 guest per visit. I've never had a problem with this at the other two locations listed above, but at this one it's a different story. I brought a friend with me tonight at around 8 p.m. and the girl behind the desk said they don't allow guests after 7 p.m. because they don't have a sales rep here and she can't grant a pass, but she'll see what she can do. She leaves and comes back and says they won't issue a guest pass, but allow it for $18 and hands my friend a form to fill out. I told her that's not what my membership says and told her about the guest policy with my companies deal and how I've never had this issue at the Mopac/WC location or in Westlake. She called me "a liar." At this point, I was fed up and just left. I understand policy and what not, but ever since this deal with my company was put into place I've had small issues that were easily resolved. I don't want to sound like a snob, but I'm probably better off going to the one on West William Cannon or in Westlake anyway. read more

I have been coming here for about 6 months now and I have to say that it is NOT my favorite Gold's Gym to attend in Austin. However, I DO LOVE the classes offered here by the class instructors. That being said this review will basically be biased towards the classes offered and what I have taken. ZUMBA: I like to get down and dance. I took my FIRST Zumba class here on a Tuesday evening with Patti from 7:05pm-8:05pm. She was amazing, ladies! Holy moley! She made me feel really welcomed by asking me my name & advised me to "take it easy" since it was my first time. My response to her was "Girl, I dance my ass off at Barbarella & I aint going there tonight so bring it." Guess she took that as a challenge because she WORKED MY ASS OUT! I was SO sore and sweaty at the end of the first two tracks (1st track being a warm-up!). I definitely had a great time the first time around and you can find me, in the back, every Tuesday/Thursday in her class. I have taken several Zumba classes at other Gold's around town and you cannot get a workout anywhere else like you would in Patti's class. She targets everything from legs (squats), weights, and abs/core work. Plus, the music is BUMPINNNNNNG! BODY PUMP: I am not sure what it is about this Gold's keeping their Body Pump instructors but it seems to me that every 4 weeks there is a new instructor for the 6pm - 7:00pm class slot on Tues/Thursdays. I have had SO MANY instructors for this time slot at this location that it has become super annoying. As I jump from one location to another, this location has Body Pump at 6pm on Tues/Thurs (right before Zumba class - see above) and it is most ideal for me to attend. Now that it is the new year it seems like we are locked down with an instructor (at least for Tuesdays) with Mark. Mark is pretty damn awesome. He is super helpful in reminding you of your stances, how much weight to pack on for various exercises, and what to look forward to in the next circuit. He is a great motivator and pushes me (kindly) to get the most out of my time and energy when I come to class. Don't be scared of this class - you have the power to push and lift you just have to get in there and try it out. Listen, I come to this gym for primarily these 2 classes and never to workout on the machines. I always see many folks using the treadmills and ellipticals like it's going to be gone the next day and I don't understand! There is a class every hour, every week/weekend and I don't know why you wouldn't want to take advantage of them. This gym is too small to try to workout comfortably and the layout of the gym makes me cringe. I don't like that everyone is facing forward on all of the machines. It's so odd to me - it feels like being in a classroom in elementary school. read more

I don't often go to this location. I did have a trainer there (who rocked), but that was many years ago and don't tell her I don't do that regimen anymore. The room is the smallest and most cramped (but classes seem to be small). I don't ever use the machines here. I rarely come here. This is why I like this gym--the (front) mirrors in the room where you take classes. They are the most slenderizing of the gyms I frequent. Big bonus for that. read more

Horrible experience. Tried to use my gym membership through Active & Fitness Direct. I was told by "Hunter" after waiting 10 minutes that it can only be utilized when the manager is there. This is unacceptable and leads me to not want to workout here, I am going to 24 hours Fitness instead.
