The first time we came here we thought it was super cool, too bad the staffing is awful. My boyfriend went today for a club fitting and was so disappointed. So if you ever feel like throwing a $100 down the drain, get fitted by the careless, rude, apathetic staff .. but best save the money. He stood around for 20 minutes and was rudely shuffled around by staff with zero guidance and without the bare minimum of customer service . When the guy finally showed up for his $100 fitting session, he left multiple times for 10 minutes at a time and was extremely pretentious and cocky. He clearly cares more about his bragging rights as a "30 year golfer" than about helping young golfers who are there to learn. The only helpful employee was the guy at the grip station who thankfully shed some shred of decency on this god-awful golf galaxy visit. The experience was so bad we're never going there again. Save your money. Order online to avoid the atrocious employees and get fitted for clubs somewhere else. read more

I went in for a fitting and to purchase a new pair of Ping Irons. Paul Bayhouse was very accommodating throughout the whole process. While hitting a few balls to help with the fitting, he helped me with my swing and honestly I felt an immediate improvement. Not only did he fit me for irons, but based on my swing, experience, and potential, he gave me strong recommendations for the rest of my set. While I do have to wait for my irons to get in (due to them needing to be customized), I have not been this excited to step on a course in a long time. Overpriced and ZERO assistance. There's a guy sitting at the desk in the back near putters and sees me looking at all of the putters and never asks if I need help, 2 men in the grip area talking to eachother and no assistance and a guy at the front registers who doesn't offer even when he sees me leave and asks if I've found what I need. I respond no there is no help and he I'm going to Dicks sporting goods to make my purchase to which he responds-well it's the same company. Terrible service and waaay overpriced. read more

Holy golf freak out. I'm a long time golfer, not super regular, maybe 4-6 times a year. I have had the same set of clubs for over 10 years and have been half-ass in the market for a set for years but never committed. Decided it was time. Was going to go to a large chain general sports equipment company but thought I'd come here instead. So glad I did. Amazing selection for EVERYTHING golf related. Fantastic new sets, drivers, used sets, bags, attire, I mean EVERYTHING. Got a steal of a deal on a new (used) set and I cannot wait to get out and play. If you need any kind of assistance picking clubs, this is NOT the place to go! I waited 90 minutes to get help for a driver fitting, and then the guy just hands me three drivers and left for the next two hours. This type of service was not what I witnessed when I was waiting and another customer was getting fitted for a driver. The fitter was constantly giving feedback and bringing the customer more drivers to try. My friend was also there looking for a driver fitting and received the same, non-existent customer service. We went in there looking to spend a lot of money, and left without purchasing anything. Customer service here is to blame. Although, to be fair, the customer service at the re-gripping station was excellent when I got a new grip for my club. read more

Nice big store with a lot of golf items. Hitting bays, putting green, and club repair services. I went there to inquire about making an appointment to get my irons adjusted. They don't do appointments. Come back on Monday, I was told. Monday morning I bring my clubs in and was informed that I could get my clubs back in three weeks. Not acceptable. Drove out there to get some new shoes and a glove. Had some questions on a few different shoe options and waited in the shoe area for over 30 minutes, but no one ever came to the area to help. They were not very busy, and the girl at the register said she called someone twice, but no one ever came. Very disappointing to drive all the way there and then get such bad service. No one ever did come to help, and couldn't wait forever, so had to leave. Will just need to order on Amazon or go somewhere else. read more

Everything you could ever want as a golf enthusiast! My uncle came to visit SJ, and I took him to Golfsmith for golf gear. We were particularly looking for golf shoes and apparel. I was disappointed that they didn't carry much Callaway brand things but they have tons of Nike and Adidas gear that were at really decent prices. The staff was also really helpful and told us that their website might have more. My little 8 year old cousin had fun practicing in the back area, his putting skills and golf swings with the practice clubs. They have equipment to measure your swing speed and you can try out any club you'd like before you buy it. Really knowledgeable staff to answer all your golf needs and an awesome golf resources place to improve your swing! read more

Came in to check out some 3 woods. Wasn't helped once by any associates. Was in the store for a good 45 min. Was hoping to get help and some recommendations but I didn't get any help at all. Interesting that they were only helping people that were only white and not me, young and Asian. None of them came up to me and asked if I needed help but they asked other people in the store. I've spent at least $4k in the last 3 years here. New driver, 3wood, Iron set, wedges, putter, hybrids, Golf bag, apparel, and small things like gloves or tees. Customer service is horrible. They think they know everything and the customer knows nothing. Whatever! Idc. I'm writing this because I recently purchased a set of irons from them. I wanted them to bend the irons 2 degrees flat and of course they said they would. So I pay them nicely as usual. I come back a week later to pick them up and everything seems legit... hard to tell 2 degrees. So I've play about 5-7 rounds and really didn't see any difference. So I went to Cool Clubs in foster city (awesome spot, but a little pricy), they checked all my irons and said everything is standard. Golf galaxy didn't do a god dam thing except take my money. So I decide to return my hybrid I bought and tell them about my irons. The guy at the club shop literally said it could bend back, and that their machines aren't good there. Just beware of them. It's a cool shop and some of the employees are cool, but you just can't trust them. read more

Earlier this week I went in to get fitted for a new driver. Alex was very patient with me, taking the necessary time to ensure that I got the right driver that produced the best distance and control. A few days later I returned to the store, only to now need a club fitting. AGAIN, I was treated well and I was confident that I was making the right choice of clubs. From swing analysis-to-purchase I had a great experience. Oh, and hats off to Tanya too who wanted to know how my customer experience was. Who knew one can spend $250~ here for three items? My friend visiting from Virginia wanted to go to this place to check out some lefty clubs for me :D We went on a Friday morning when it was not crowded. We checked out some Nike Golf clubs but the aisle was super empty, lol. Apparently, Nike is discontinuing their Golf line so they had a huge sale. We checked out their pre-owned section for lefty clubs and found couple of drivers and wedges that are in good condition. My friend wandered around other aisles and he happen to found a new Callaway driver and it was on sale for about $89! The original price was $230. Hell of a deal! The wedge we found was on sale for $35 and the original price was $70 but the putter was brand new for about $100. We were pleased with the deals we got and now I have lefty clubs to use whenever I go to SJ Muni for a driving range session :D it was an early birthday present for me from the bestie ^_^ read more

Note: This review was when this was a Golfsmith before they got bought out: Man. I want to like this place, but I only go here since it's really the only true golf store in South Bay. I used to work back in the 90s at a Golf Galaxy back in the Midwest and I definitely prefer that chain. I've bought a few clubs here and had a few clubs regripped. No problems at all with regrouping. The odd part was buying. I told the guy I was buying wedges that day and tried out a number of wedges. He kept leaving me for another customer and I kept hanging around to ask questions and continued to hit balls. He then just abandoned me. I was also going to buy a putter and ended up with a Scott Cameron. The problem was no one was there to help me get the putter cover. I literary was in the middle of the putting green saying out loud, I want to buy this Scotty Cameron and I want to order two wedges. Does anyone want the credit??? No one came. Luckily the Mizuno rep said I'll just wall back there and find it for you. He took me to the front where the cashier asked me who helped me. I said, uh no one. This Mizuno rep had to get this head cover for me. The cashier got one of the guys to come up to the front to help fill out the custom order for Mizuno wedges and the same guy that initially "helped" me came up. Wonderful. Then the employees were confused on how to do the custom order so the Mizuno rep actually went behind the counter to figure it out on their system and paperwork. Wow. Do I love my clubs? Yes. But the experience was pretty bad. I will only buy here if I have to and unfortunately that's the case due to proximity. read more

Sort of a mixed bag here. The selection is really great. They have everything. They have a practice driving range. Can also get custom clubs made. They do have fittings and all other services that Golfsmith out of Texas is famous for. Unfortunatley, the employees here are less than professional, and do not provide good customer service. There is a total disconnect between their products and the customer contact. I DO NOT reccomend you go here to get new clubs fit to your game. The employees, IMHO, are not qualified to do this. I recommend you go to a local golf course with a certified PGA instructor if you are really serious about getting the right clubs for you. There is a Golftec training academy here, that has been touted as being pretty good to improve your game. Has all the high tech video and other, but again is indoors. I prefer instruction to see the entire ball path at a regulation range. Has all the golf balls and more you could ever want. Has clothes and shoes also. So, if you know exactly what you want, check it out to see if it has a good price. The checkout lines are long, and it seems with all those employees running around they would have a better system. But they don't. Golfsmith management: wake up. This store needs some retraining on customer service, or some new committed employees. read more

I love me some Golfsmith!! I can do some major damage on the Visa card in here... If you enjoy golf, you will enjoy Golfsmith - simple as that. They have new and used clubs, balls, bags, accessories, push carts, practice aids, shoes and clothes. They even let you hit any club in their cages. Their computers will read the spin of the ball and will help you in selecting your clubs and length of shaft. And for you pansies out there, they also sell tennis crap. read more

*review for tennis only* I don't know any other sports store that would let you demo tennis racquets, but apparently Golfsmith does and it works out great! I had been demoing tennis racquets for a few months and just bought my tennis racquet from here. The way their demoing works is each tennis racquet you want to borrow is $10 and that $$ goes towards the new racquet that you'd eventually want to buy. You get 5 days to try them out. The tennis guy, Ted, was also very helpful with giving me suggestions. After demoing those racquets, I ended up buying the Babolat Pure Drive 107! larger sweet spot, lots of power, and good control :) read more

My review is based off expectation vs. how disappointed i am. Otherwise i would've given a 1 Star. I'm a person for giving people/places the benefit of the doubt. After using my hand me down sticks for nearly 12 years i wanted to get fitted and purchase a new set and expected to spend $1100. I saw the reviews for Golf Galaxy and i admit they weren't the greatest but non of it had to do for what i was looking for. So given there hasn't been a review i decided to book and give them a shot, ready to do the Platinum fitting and get the whole thing done. I was recommended from an associate to not do that cuz it's a waste and just do the iron fitting. (So much for top down selling) lol So i agreed and booked an appt. I came in 5 min before my appt. walked half way thru the store before i was greeted, ironically by the same person i was suppose to see. I asked him where i should be and was told to stay put because he was going on lunch. I waited in that area for 20min. Watching employees not address me or even ask if i needed help. I finally walked by the front and see the same gentleman checking out customers who were purchasing items and as i walked out, he look at me as if i was stealing clubs. The same clubs that i was asked to bring for my fitting. Really disappointed but my expectations weren't high to begin with so which warrants the 2 stars. I never got a confirmation call or a call to reschedule so i going to assume this review will be unnoticed. read more

Needed a few clubs regripped, what could go wrong? Called the store, was told they had a 24 hour turnaround for regrips, so went in on a Tuesday morning. Now I'm told they won't be ready until Thursday at 5. Should have gone elsewhere right there, but common sense isn't part of my makeup, after all, I'm a golfer. I go pick up the clubs thinking "there's no way they could have screwed this up". Got home and realized the grips aren't even aligned properly, they were just slapped on. I had an iron fitting yesterday with Blaine at the Greenville store. this was my third fitting over the last seven years. My first two fittings were with club champion one in Atlanta and one in Greenville SC. I have to say Blaine was awesome and he put the fittings with Club Champion to shame. This is my first review on yelp. I went in there yesterday looking to buy a brand new set of irons, golf bag, shoes, tees, the whole 9 yards. I was in there for an hour and a half with no help from anyone. The store was not busy. I am not a beginner golfer, nor salesperson. After helping myself with no employees even acknowledging I was in the store, I brought a mountain of items to purchase to the front counter. Come to find out that there is one less iron that comes with the set that was on display. After that I decided not to give this store my business and asked for a refund. The magnetic strip on my card did not work for the refund but the chip sure worked for the purchase lol. The "store manager" got involved and didn't know what to do. Come to find out he was one person that I passed by while shopping about 10 times with no offer of help. Welcome to retail buddy. He went to the back, left me there by myself. At this point I'm there for TWO hours. I had to leave, I left my name and phone number with the cashier. The manager should have taken my info right off the bat instead of me coming up with a solution for them. It's unfortunate, because I did have really good service from another manager there, older guy kind of looks Hawaiian. Look for that guy, he is the only one that wants to help. (He wasn't there that day unfortunately). So, I still have received no call back from this place, and still has $1,400 of my money and I never received any goods. Bummer man. I'll try to look more rich and white next time I go shopping for golfing stuff, I may have to cover my tattoos and smile. read more

As a left handed golfer, it's always tough to find gear. Even here at Golfsmith, their selection of left handed putters was limited, but luckily they had the Odyssey i wanted! The young man helping me helped me find the right length of putter for me, spend a lot of time explaining the differences, and made sure that the putter I wanted was the best one for me (it was). Better deals can be found. The sheer amount of gear here as well is pretty amazing. The prices are OK. The checkout counter was run but a band of rabid chimps. They were screwing around throwing tape balls at each other and using foul language. I usually don't mind, but the constant barrage of them was lame. Even lamer was the 15 attempts it took to get the scanner to work. read more

This is a specific shout out to John in the Tour Shop. I went in to get my clubs re-gripped. I can see he was busy in the middle of working on some clubs. He saw me standing there and he came right over. I was hesitant going to a "big chain" golf shop but right away I got the mom and pop feel when he asked if I needed help. I told him what I needed and he gave me a fair and extremely helpful quick consultation. I literally felt like the only customer in the shop with the attention I was given! When we made a final decision he gave me a promised time that they would be done and you bet your sweet a$$ he delivered on time. Not only was my set done in a timely manner but the work was A1 quality. Any shop can carry good product but John offered amazing customer service that is honestly hard to find nowadays. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this store for any of your golf needs. I'm about a 22 handicap but I felt like a PGA Pro with 3 Green Jackets walking out of there. Although they recently remodeled the store and it looks better, it still lacked in the selection of women's golf clubs. They only had a few selections and many were in the pink/purple colors which I hated and the price range was either super cheap or too expensive. There wasn't very many in the $400-500 range. According to the store, they only carry the more popular selling ones. As I'm a beginner shopping for my first set, I wanted to try different clubs to see which ones I was comfortable with and whether I can tell the different between the various price ranges/brands. Since I came in on a weeknight, the store was slow so there were plenty of staff available to help me. Best time to come! They let me grab 3 different clubs from display and helped to tape them out so I could try them. I took a few swings with each which was really helpful to get a feel for the different clubs and to see which ones were more comfortable. They advised that I should come in for a master fitting ($50) some time by making an appointment online. They also advised that it was best to come in prior to purchasing a set, which had to be one of the sets they sold in store. I wasn't too thrilled about that especially since they only had a few selections in the price range I was looking for, but the good thing was, the fee could be applied towards the purchase. read more

A nice, large golf/tennis shop located in the Circuit City shopping center off of Stevens Creek and Kiely. They have the golftec golf lessons, a selection of used golf clubs, and even repair golf clubs. I purchased a used driver head online, and had the Golfsmith refit it on another. Usually repairs take two days, and if it is not ready in two days, it's free. Another service I like is the purchase online/pick-up in store option. If you are searching for a specific item, you can purchase it online and pick it up in the store closest to you. The only disadvantage of this particular store is the one person check-out counter. For some reason there is only one employee working the registers, which can make the lines/wait long. read more

Last month I went to see him about sizing down my irons Bridgestone Precept and he also set the lie angle as well. What a difference, for the first time I am really striking my irons very well. Len also took the time to watch me swing my clubs and made suggestions to improve my golf game that wasn't going to break the bank. I recently went back last week to have my Taylor Made R7 Draw reshafted with a steel shaft and size down to me as well. read more

This place is a good resource to try out new clubs as they have quite a few demo's to choose from. They have last years models as well. If you can get here when it's not busy, just ask them if you can try out some clubs in their demo area. Ask them to setup their camera system and you can check your swing speed and ball rotation. I've had a few clubs re-shafted and re-gripped from this place and their prices and workmanship is good. Look for the discounts that they have once in a while for re-shafting. They carry used clubs as well if your not in the market for new ones. Craigslist is also a good place to find used clubs. Once in a while you can also find some great clothing buys on their clearance rack, provided that you get there before everyone else! read more

Ok, I like this place a lot. I was reading past reviews about customer service and maybe they fixed it, (which is great....the whole purpose of Yelp, right?) because I always get excellent service here. I'm a beginner female golfer and at first it was intimidating to shop for golf stuff cuz I am not sure what I need or want....so I'll ask and the staff here is super attentive. It's like they KNOW I'm intimidated so they make the experience FUN rather than scary! One time I needed a custom club made (yes I lost it on the back 9 somewhere)....they helped me look online to see what could be ordered, then the guy said, let's check in our shop to see if we can put one together for you and save you some money. (i lost my petite women's 7 iron...yes it's expensive to buy a single club!!!) He was able to get one put together for me for about $40....and I'll have to admit, it's my favorite iron...then again, the 7 iron generally is everyone's fav, right??? lol. The "golf smith" (see what i did there?) was very cool. He put together my club for me in less than 48 hours and I was playing with it that weekend. The grip came loose about a month later so I brought it back in and he fixed it on the spot for me. I also bought some shoes from here and I saw them on TGW.com for $20 less. They price matched and gave me the difference with ZERO hassle. I like and recommend this place. read more
