I've been a frequent shopper here for almost a decade. I'm on the wine email list and often buy from their craft beer selection. Everyone's always been friendly and helpful between the sommelier and the crew working the registers. I had a bad experience on my most recent visit to pick up a bottle of wine. I stopped at the register and let them know I was picking up a bottle of wine that I preordered. It hadn't been delivered yet, and the lady at the register I spoke with was nice and told me that. I understood and planned to swing by again later, so continued speaking to the lady. Then another employee interrupted me and very rudely told me the exact same thing the lady behind the counter just said in a way that came off as I needed to shut up and leave. That guy's level of service was so low that I probably won't be back. I have a ton of other options in the immediate area (Mike's, Total Wine, Plaza Liquor) where I've never had a bad experience like this. read more

Exceptional service on clear display at yesterday's stop. I came specifically looking for a new single malt, one off, from the epic Islay Distiller Ardbeg (Scotland). Not finding it on the shelf, an employee ambled by and ask if I needed help finding something. I described it, he said he wasn't familiar with it. We looked in another area and found a bottle from the distillery, but not that one. He went to look at their inventory on the computer. He chatted with a couple of others, one said he thought he'd seen a bottle. Finally after a bit of effort they determine there are 5 bottles in the store. But where? He asked me to hold on while he searched the back. Five minutes later he returned, bottle in hand. I've frequented various Gomer's over the years, but rarely stop here, and did so because another liquor location that had this one in stock had depleted their cache. So home I went, successful only due to the efforts of the staff. They way it should be. Highly recommended, this location. Ample parking, all major credit cards, helpful staff. read more

Their beer is not cold. You have to buy your beer the night before unless you like your can cool and the beer inside not, lol. Another funny fact, if you spend a little money they put your alcohol in a bag and wrap it real nice, if you buy beer they ask you if you want an old grabbled up black plastic bag lol. Visited this Gomer's for the first time on a recent Saturday and we had a great experience. The staff working were all very friendly, getting all customers out quickly, and were actively trying to assist us. They had everything we were looking for and had a really good collection considering the liquor store is relatively small. Simply put - this is my favorite place in KC to buy alcohol. The deals are excellent, the local beers are well stocked and represented, and the staff is super helpful. If they don't stock it, you can order it. Talk about service! What I love about gomer's is that there are also tastings! Sign up for their beer mail list and you'll get notifications next time a partner is in town and they are hosting a tasting. I've been to wine tastings, mezcal tastings and - my fave - scotch tastings! It's fun to hear about the companies and sample different products. Also there is usually a discount involved for the bottles you sample if you choose to purchase one! There are also "floor tastings" where you can sample while you shop - and they are fun! One of the best liquor stores downtown for craft beer, whiskey, and wine! This is my go to when looking for one off bottles of beer or whiskey when they come out. If seeking something that is limited release, I have noticed that it doesn't always get put on the shelves, they occasionally hold things back for regulars/frequent shoppers which they are able to look up if you pay by card here. If you know something came out recently and don't see it out, make sure to check with an employee. Prices here are always very competitive with what you will see around town. They do have a parking lot, so no worry about street parking. read more

I used to do business at Gomers but stopped when I noticed that some of the staff are wearing "shields" over their faces with NO MASK. They stubbornly defend this practice. I told them that they were acting irresponsibly towards their customers and that their actions are against the law. Masks are not optional at KC businesses. They are required. I visited Gomer's to find Dogfish Head brews. Firstly, I found the staff to be personable and unlike some have described. I think all but one greeted me while shopping. The parking lot was clean and sizable. Entered through automatic sliding doors and through another set on the right. This is the beer area, with wine and spirits on the other side--along with the exit. Found my fave, Sea Quench, and two I haven't tried. Better selection in Minneapolis metro, but that's mostly due to distributors. I also bought some wine I didn't have. The wine selection is more diverse than the beer selection. Alright folks... I have since dusted off that dirt off my shoulder from my first encounter (review). They have what you need. Period. (just in case you missed the punctuation) Best assortment of beers and wines. They know their liquor, beer and wines. They don't just sell it. They live it. (Not calling them drunks... Unless I'm a drunk... But I like to think of myself as an alcohol enthusiast). Mike sets up different tastings of wine and beer and liquors. All you need to do is sign up on their list. The beer tastings are usually during Fri-Sat in the store. Just stop by. We've gone to a few tastings. They have the usual reps from the company explaining their brand and product. But they have had some of KCs finest bartenders or mixologists come and make cocktails with said product. The tastings were great. Mike doesn't make you feel like a waste of time if you choose not to buy anything. We went to a tequila tasting and the only bottle we really liked was $96. Out of our price range for sho! I enjoy a good craft beer, wine and host holiday cook-outs with friends so Gomers has become a fairly regular stop on my way home from the office Downtown. The store is clean, organized, has an excellent selection of wines, beers, liquor and always has great sales. I did not expect much from a liquor store but when I arrived at Gomers I was impressed at how nice it was, specials clearly market, craft beers when you walk in, sections for bourbon, tequila, vodka, wines, etc. with a wide range of products and prices (cheap stuff to top shelf). The prices are as good or better than every other store in town, better prices than Walmart and none of the 'people of Walmart' experiences! The staff is helpful, they drink and seem knowledgeable about the various alcohols the store carries so they recommend some good options and offer to help if they see anyone standing around trying to decide. I was looking for a 'Gluten Free' vodka for a friend which is usually tough to find. Gomers has 5 good options for gluten free vodka starting at $10.98 (on sale) for a good quality product which is amazing. The prices are great, the store is clean, centrally located and has an excellent selection - check it out! read more

Most of the employees don't have any knowledge of the wine so if the wine expert is not in don't expect to get any lesions apart from if they find your bottle. Over all been asking about SOLERNO BLOOD ORANGE LIQUEUR for weeks and it just dose not seem to be coming back. Over all much other stores in the location have about the same selection. They don't carry cheep single beers to keep the rift raft away. Wine tasting and beer samples are a regular thing here. Over all not the best but defiantly not the worse read more

Wow. Talk about remodelers. Gomers is now bright, spacious and full of almost every type of alcoholic beverage for every situation. We're beer drinkers and there was a good selection. I used to shop at the Gomer's out south and they were marvelous. great people, friendly, knowledgable. I have been to the Midtown location and I have to say, every time I have gone, the people are rude and snotty. Midtown has a great looking store and an awesome selection, but the staff attitude and absolutely no customer service really has put me off this location. I used to be a wine steward in a past profession. I would have been fired for the attitudes I experience when I go in. The only reason they get two stars is I found what I needed. Gomer's stocked up our bar for our Sunday wedding. Once I got the quote we realized they don't deliver on Sundays, but after just one quick email they told us they'd be happy to deliver it for us which was a huge relief. There's enough to worry about on wedding day so that was greatly appreciated. It's also really nice that they offer returns on unopened bottles because we actually ordered too much for the night. If you don't mind dodging a few shady characters in the area, this is a great liquor store. There is a huge beer selection here as well as more types of wine than I'd ever know what to do with. The staff are very knowledgeable about their products. This is exactly the kind of store I'd go to to ask what specific type of liquor went best with certain meals. Let me tell you a little something about Gomer's Midtown: They're effin rad. So I needed to procure myself a large quantity of booze for my wedding reception. I was unsure of the best (read: most cost effective) method for doing so, when the rumor mill told me that Gomer's does the best thing of all time! You see, you can make a liquor/beer order and they won't charge you until after the event, so that any leftover unopened bottles can be returned. Because I truly believe the #1 rule of party planning is "don't run out of hooch," I purposely overbought and was able to return a significant amount. They saved me hundreds of dollars! Thanks Gomer's! Add to that a great selection, a clean and safe store, and a friendly and helpful staff, and Gomer's is just chock full of win. Hooray! read more

We used Gomer's to get our alcohol for our wedding and I'd recommend you do the same! We were told that they'd take back any unopened stock after the event and that was about all we needed. That sounded perfect! So we contacted them and gave them an idea of our number of guests and what type of drinks we planned on having. they put together a quote based on that that we tweaked a bit (our guests didn't need the BEST quality mixers... I'm paying, i'm sure they'd be happy with the next best thing and if not they can shut the hell up...) and they confirmed the order. Actually, a couple weeks before the wedding they emailed to say they reworked their pricing a little and it wound up saving us a nice chunk of change SCORE! They delivered everything - beer, liquor, ice, pop for mixing - to the venue (for a small fee) the day of the wedding and were right on time. Our delivery guy clearly had been there before because he went to the fridges (which weren't in an obvious location) and started unloading everything without needing any direction from anyone (nice bonus on a busy day). We went through a good chunk of the liquor but didn't run out thanks to their excellent estimating. After the wedding, we loaded up all the leftovers (Hint: If it is an open bar, people go for the money drinks and skip the beer) and dropped it off at the store, the counted it up and charged us just for what we used and we were on our merry way. They have every possible thing imaginable, including some pretty obscure beers that I didn't even know were available in this part of the country. This is one of those places that you have to love. As they say in Kentucky where I'm from, smack dab in the middle of it all! This place has location location location. On top of that they have selection selection selection! This Gomers is not a huge place, but they pack a shit ton of fun (i.e. spirits) into the store. I've been able to find craft bottles of bourbon, Johnny Walker Platinum, and enough craft brews to keep me in the clouds for months. LOL They even have plenty of Bud and other types of "water-beer," and won't make fun of you for buying it at check out (I would, ha!). Great liquor store. Very diverse beer section that rotates well with the seasonal offerings. Staff has always been super helpful and knowledgeable. If the person I'm talking to doesn't know the answer to my question, they usually go directly to the person who does. I've been numerous times when they keep the "good stuff" in the back where you can't find it, so be sure to talk to the staff if you're looking for something. The last time I went in, I asked for one thing and the guy brought it to me along with something else I wanted but completely blanked on asking for...it doesn't get much better than that. The space is quite cramped, but it's worth putting up with for the level of service and the decent pricing. I've heard that they will be moving across the street soon so their building can be knocked down and rebuilt to better serve their needs. As a beer geek Gomer's is awesome! They have a great selection of craft brews from a huge number of breweries. If you know what you are looking for then they probably have it. The store is also very clean and organized. I dock them one star for customer service. I sometimes "hunt" out special/limited release beers and I call around to ask if places know when they are getting it in. They always act clueless and they tell me they have no idea when they get deliveries and in no way do they know what is going to be on the truck. I find this very hard to believe, how do you control inventory and costs if you have no idea what you ordered and when it will arrive? read more

The local Liquor store for the eclectic personalities. It has a lot of great mixtures of various types of beverages and the perfect accessories you need for making those cocktails. There are all of the premium ginger beers, great grenadine, organic martini olives, and onions and such. It is always well lit - it is basically a brand new building. The coolers are filled with beer, wine, and some premium liquor. The people that work in the store also know the inventory. They are pleasant people. They don't have the fussiness with the knowledge that they have. They are very approachable. So, take your time trying to get out after you get out of the store. It is about as busy as a Walmart parking lot attached to a Quick Trip. read more

They have a great selection - everything from PBR cases to beer nerd hoptastic brews to fancy pants wines. If they don't have it they can point you to a good substitute or help you find it. The long: In a more recent search across town for the makings for some nice adult beverages I was referred to Gomer's as I was looking for some rare'ish items. I have to say I had never been into Gomer's before and even though I had heard of it I actually had driven by time and time again without knowing it was there. Boy am I glad I found it now. Not only did they have every single item I was looking for, but it was cheaper than I think anywhere I have come across those particular brands. Even if you're just looking for some find it everywhere liquor/beer/wine Gomer's is going to have it, but their more not so mainstream selection is awesome. Great selection, clean nice store. I asked the clerk if they do a pick your own six pack and just wanted a quick point and yes or no answer. He was busy doing paper work so I didn't want to bug him to much, I try to say ok and walk off but he ended up showing me exactly where the selection was. They didn't include one of the beers I wanted in the build your own pack but after telling him this he offered to put the beer I wanted in the build your own section, very awesome gesture, I will return. Also after paying and checking out I asked a different clerk if they carried St. James wine, only wanting and expecting a yes or no answer (since I already paid) he walked me over to the wine section and showed me exactly where they were.
