I tried The Gondolier only because it was next door to my gym and I needed to nosh ASAP! I'd written them off for no apparent reason. Boy was I wrong. They nail it from A to Z. Everything I've tried has been excellent, and I appreciate that the prices are affordable for such tasty food. My favorites are the Gondo Calzone, chicken caesar sandwich, the chicken Parmesan. On special occasions I spring for the steak. Hats off to the chefs! No matter what your flavor, the bar has it. The bartender does infused vodkas and homemade limoncello. They also have some unique whiskey and gin offerings. I'm drawn to the craft beers on tap or in cans, which are mostly from Colorado. The service is off the charts. They greet me every time I come and I every time I leave, even though they know I'm just sitting at the bar. I've got my go-to bartenders, but a lot of the staff stops by for a chat and know me by name - everyone's super personable. It's cool that the owner is usually in and working to make sure that everyone has a good night! read more

Perhaps I should have ordered the pizza. But they do claim to be an Italian restaurant! I ordered fettuccine Alfredo w sautéed mushrooms and chicken. The chicken was over cooked and dry. And while I appreciate that the Alfredo was not over salted (rare in restaurant food), it was also bland. Herb it up a little! I was seriously hungry when I ordered and when I only ate four bites, they gladly boxed it up for some homeless guy I could happily pass it off to, yet no one asked if it was okay, or why I didn't eat it. When I eat out in Boulder I expect great food, as Boulder is somewhat of a food Mecca. If I pay for something that I can make better at home for 1/4 the price, I'll eat at home next time. read more

Same basic restaurant. However, so far I really like this incarnation of the Gondolier a whole lot better than the past few. The decor is tasteful, practical, and no-nonsense. The service was excellent. The food was served hot, and tasted good. I rarely waver from my choice of eggplant. The eggplant was good. Came with a decent sized portion of their fresh, tasty homemade pasta and hot homemade sauce. Delightful. Lunch price for this is $8. Since eggplant parmesan is not on the lunch menu, they allow people to simply order it without the bread, which is nice. I got the bread on the side, which worked better for me. The friend I met for lunch ordered Pasta Primavera. Generous portion. $12. I tried it and it was quite good. No desserts, no drinks, that's how it goes sometimes. Sat down at an EMPTY bar (there was NO ONE else in the entire place). I kindly asked to change the TV channel and the manager's response was: "football on this tv, tennis on the other one, she can move". I'd understand if there was another person watching, but there was not another single soul there! I'll take my business elsewhere. This is no way to treat a customer. I guess the Bronco's game on an empty restaurant is more important than treating your patrons well. Never coming back to this place again! It's a shame because the food is good. read more

Super little Italian restaurant hidden in a strip mall right at Baseline and Foothills. My ladies social group dined there on a recent Saturday afternoon. I work in Boulder and one of my clients goes there all the time so it came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. I am posting pix of some of our dishes - they were all wonderful and the desserts were yummy. Our waiter was spot on with our dishes, filling our water glasses and making sure we were not lacking with anything. We had a wonderful time and I thank The Gondolier for the amazing, awesome, glorious, yummy, delicious GARLIC KNOTS! I could have made a meal just out of those! read more

We did a large group order (20) for take-out and the food was excellent and delicious, everyone in the office loved it. The chicken parmesan sandwich was great and HUGE! Several folks had the spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, steam clams and caprese salad which was all excellent and very large portions. Great Food! We will definitely order from Gondolier again. *Drools over homemade spaghetti* The Gondolier is the first place the comes to mind every time I have a craving for some good spaghetti. Their homemade noodles are awesome and the spicy marinara is delicious. And, since the portions are large, I always leave with a to-go box and the lovely feeling of having left-overs. And trust me, you won't forget these leftovers on the table. I would suggest ordering an appetizer, because sometimes the food is really slow to come out. Just to prevent you from going all ravenous on the other patrons while you wait, make sure you have something to snack on. The spinach and artichoke dip is very tasty (although it's one of their specials so I'm not sure if they have it all the time. You should ask for it anyway.). I'm also a fan of the garlic bread (obviously with the mozzarella on top). Writing this review made me crave spaghetti again... Anyone up for sharing leftovers? read more

The name of this place has been hard for our family to remember so we lovingly nickname it "Gonads" lol. We were actually pretty pleased with everything we got from this place. Best pizza from delivery so far and we have tried many places. Everything tastes fresh. I especially liked the marinara sauce. I also really liked the thin crust for our pizza. I give one less star only because with delivery some items are not as good as they would have been in person. ( calamari was still cruncy but also limp in some rings) but that is not really the restaurants fault it is just the price you pay for delivering food as opposed to eating it at the restaurant. Overall I definitely plan on ordering again in the future, especially the pizza. They use good cheese on their pizza! read more

It was date night for the wife and I and we decided to try out Gondolier at their new location. Unfortunately my wife has gluten and dairy allergies, which you can imagine can be an adventure at an Italian restaurant. I must say that our server Jess, the management and the rest of the staff rolled with it amazingly. There were a few hiccups, but again with food allergies at an Italian restaurant it must be expected, and regardless Gondolier went above and beyond to make up for anything that wasn't 100%. That this place is so busy + highly rated def. tells me s/thing about food standards in Boulder. First the good: 1. they serve wine by the liter, mezzo, and quartino. Cute! V. authentic. Middling quality = also about the same as what one would experience in a standard Italian eatery. 2. pretty nice setting, esp. for a strip mall w/a view onto a parking lot. 3. liked the wonky, gigantic spaghetti: super, super thick, like bucatini, except w/out the hole in the middle. It was actually *quite* well cooked... though purists might want s/thing a bit more al dente, it was def. not falling apart at all. 4. Fresh steamed broccoli came standard on the side. Now for the disappointing - & reason why I'll likely never go back: everything else about the food. 1) Not totally sure if the eggplant parmasean was just frozen cutlets that had been heated up for me, but if NOT, they may as well have been. Completely saturated in oil. 2) Garlic & oil pasta seemed just like a bunch of noodles bathed in industrial olive oil and topped with a few tablespoons of pre-chopped garlic straight out of the jar. Aglio e olio *relies* on high quality olive oil that's fruity enough to still taste olivey - and actually cooking the garlic IN the oil to infuse its flavor throughout - not dump some rancid clumps scooped out of a jar on top. Would also be nice if it actually had some parsley throughout to give it little lift/bite - & traditional as well. 3) No pepper grinder on the table, so I couldn't even liven up my lackluster pasta with some fresh pepper. 4) My broccoli was so 'al dente' that it was legit still raw on the inside. Other issue: my server came [promptly] to take my order, but then never appeared again until about ten min after my food had been delivered. I wouldn't have sent anything back, b/c honestly I was too hungry to care & the food quality made me despondent - but would have been nice to be asked how everything was when there was still time do make a change. I would def. have asked for fresh cracked pepper. Overall, I would generalize that Gondolier has put a heap of money & thought into its setting and nowhere near enough into food prep. read more

I was a 30+ year customer of the Gondolier. Until last night. I ordered take-out spaghetti for 10, which I frequently do for family gatherings. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was given a tray of spaghetti that was half the size it should have been. As I have ordered this many, many times, I knew this was not the correct size. I spoke to a woman who said she was the manager (dark, curly hair), who insisted that what she was giving me was spaghetti for 10. Rather than cause a huge scene, I left with what she insisted was correct. As a result, I was far short of the spaghetti I needed for our event last night. Sorry, Gondolier, we'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Fettuccini Alfredo was overcooked and mushy. It tasted like fish and I'm vegetarian. I can't eat it. The Ceasar salad was pretty small for $10. Garlic bread needed to be cooked more. Not very happy. Gondolier used to be one of my favorite places to go. Perhaps, just not a good delivery option. By the way, I live in South Boulder. Not sure why is says I live in San Francisco??? read more

This place has been around about 50 years and maybe as many locations. Good, basic Italian food. The service is good and the atmosphere not bad for a strip mall. My wife is gluten free and they had several good options We will certainly return if they don't move again. read more

I'm so sad tonight. We went to here tonight. When we walked in we were asked, 'how many? ' and that was the extent of the conversation worn the hostess, no 'enjoy' or anything. Our server came and took the drink order. 8 minutes later brought drinks and took the food order. My son split his drink in front of the server who never helped clean, asked us if we want another, etc. Long enough story short, he never checked on us, didn't being everything ordered, and took about 9 unnecessary trips to the kitchen rather than waiting on his tables. The meatballs were less than good, we would have returned his sandwich if we had a choice. Pizza was average. I'm so sad. 8 thought this could be a regular pizza place for us. read more

Their take out is trash. Three times in a row (giving benefit of the doubt) they have messed up our order. The first two times they put aluminum foil inside of our cheesy garlic bread and it has been inedible. 6 months after vowing to never order again we ordered in hopes of redemption. I honestly would have gone for 2 stars based on food alone, but the service at Gondolier was excellent. The entire staff was attentive and worked with our 2 year old friend, I asked for minimal dairy and the Bolognese sauce was made without any cream special order, and everything was out promptly. Fantastico! However, the food itself was pretty average. Nothing terrible, nothing great. I tried the garlic knots and Ziti Bolognese. The atmosphere was also pretty average, standard decor in a strip mall. I didn't dislike Gondolier, but with so many great restaurants in the world, I wouldn't hurry back. read more

Love this place and have been eating there for 28 years- ever since I was a dirt poor college student who managed to scrape together $2.99 for the all-you-can-eat homemade pasta at the 28th and Valmont location. In a city where most restaurants last a year or two the Gondolier has become a family tradition. Now I have three kids, and this is where they request to go for their birthday dinners. Had a wonderful meal tonight. Large house salad and pizza, accompanied by a nice Chardonnay. Service was excellent. Restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside, there is s lot of seating past the bar. The bar is large and fully stocked. Nice decorations as well. Booth or table seating plus the bar. Not a typical strip mall dining facility. They care about the look and feel of the restaurant and that same care translates into the meal. Fresh ingredients and excellent presentation on the plate. We love the Gondolier! We have never had a bad meal here! The unpasta with marinara is to die for and YOU HAVE TO TRY THE GARLIC KNOTS!! We also love the home made spaghetti and the pizza is quite good. We have dined in several times with my whole family with young kids and everything was perfect. What happened to the best pizza in Boulder? I have been to the current location now three times for pizza hoping to relive the incredible pizzas at the old locations. I was hoping they would get their act together. All three times the pizza was doughy and bland. The fantastic spices are gone, no longer a great crust, and the red sauce is mediocre. I think The Gondolier has cheapened the recipe. It didn't help that the raspberries in the salad were old. I hope the 50 year run of The Gondolier does not come to a sad end due the recipe changes. Ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo tonight and I can not believe the taste -or lack thereof. I didn't even know it was possible to make such a flavorless sauce. There is nothing going on taste wise. Longmont location: Good Food, our waitress was nice, we Inquired about a space for rehearsal dinner and were told it was being held for us, a week later we call to make payment and they told us someone else reserved it. Delicious! My family was in town for a wedding and before leaving town we wanted to have one last casual dinner. I called Gondolier and they happily accommodated us with a private room and waived minimum, very nice. Thank you! Pasta is homemade and sooo good! Pizza also is very good. I have been to this location a few times. Food is excellent but the service could use some help. I understand most of the servers are college students. I worked through college myself and it isn't easy. That being said, I don't think the servers get that they are in the SERVICE INDUSTRY. That means be nice, friendly, accommodating within reason. Say "Hello," for starters. Hostesses rarely greet customers -often I heard them say, "How many?" and left it at that. I am on a budget and don't get to go out to dinner often. Shouldn't all customers be treated cordially? Are tips based on service there? My last experience was on January 19th- it happened to be my birthday. We were seated in the booths closer to the bar. The table behind me was full of loud, obnoxious drunks. I couldn't hear my dinner companion over them. I appreciate that the Gondolier has a bar area. I prefer to not drink and drive. Perhaps they could offer small plates for Happy Hour so patrons are not drunk. On our way out we mentioned it to the table behind me and to the hostess that those patrons should NOT be driving. Kind of disappointing between the minimal service and the drunks. If I return I may get carryout. read more
